The deck was almost empty when he entered it. There were maybe twenty other people on the white roof of the ship, with the huge pool and hundreds of empty chairs with blue towels covering them.
Maybe it was because there was this Vegas-like showgirl show going on below the deck. Maybe it was just too hot outside for others. The inside pool was probably more crowded.
Either way, it was very quiet, and Ville didn’t like it.
He slipped onto one of the many white chairs on the quiet deck, wearing only a pair of black and purple swimming trunks and a pair of dark sunglasses to protect his forest green eyes. At least later on when he would be sunbathing. Now they were still on his head, keeping back his black, curly, shoulder length hair.
Reaching for his favorite book from the bag he brought with him he glanced up and noticed one of the few other passengers on the deck, a young guy, staring directly at him. Their gaze connected for only a second, since the men’s eyes shifted directly afterwards, looking back at the blue ocean he had been staring at with a sign.
His eyes had the exact same color as the topical blue water, Ville noticed and he wondered why the guy was looking so sad. His eyes were empty and even though they were open, he was obviously looking at absolutely nothing.
He sighed every once in a while and played carelessly with the mop of brown curls on his head.
‘Why in the world, would someone pay a shitload of money for a fabulous cruise, if he's only going to pout, sigh and stare at the water? He's just brooding the day away, doing nothing.’
He was sure he hadn’t seen the man before. Not at the restaurant, or one of the shows that were held every night down below in the room with the huge bar he liked spending a lot of his time in. He hadn’t seen him in the casino, nor on the dance floor in the ballroom. There were too many people on this boat to recognize and remember every single face, but he wouldn’t be surprised if he was right. This guy didn’t look like the typical outgoing party animal. He looked like he was bored to tears, and wanted to go home.
‘What a waste. If you don’t want to go, then just stay home, you ungrateful
prep.’ Were all thoughts that crossed Ville’s mind for just a split second, before turning back to his book, and not giving the strange man another second of his precious day.

The ocean was so blue. It was perfect blue. More perfect then any other blue had ever been. It matched the sky above it, and the ocean blue leaked neatly into it, connecting them. If Bam closed his eyes just a little, it would almost seem one blue unending universe was surrounding him. It scared him, and he quickly look back at the boat just to know he was not floating
into nothing, but was still connected with the earth. With the steel he was sitting on underneath him to keep him in place.
He needed his body to be steady, safe and still. That was all he wanted, because his mind and spirit were a rollercoaster in a heavy storm.
This trip wasn’t relaxing him. It was driving him insane. There was no distractions, and too much time to think. He had plans involving booze and women. Women and booze. More Booze. But every time he was in his room, lying on the bed, he couldn’t get himself to sit up and walk out. The mini bar was as far as he would go. And it was booze, so it would satisfy him for the moment.
After 5 whole days, he finally decided to go outside, and found the almost empty deck of the boat for him to sit on. He was happy there were not many people, so he would be left alone.
He had sat down by the railing, on the floor of the deck. And he stared. Just stared. The sea rocked him gently back and forth, but he would rather have it to splash a huge wave of water into his face. That would perhaps wake him up instead of making him painfully feel more nauseas with every wave.
He didn’t notice the guy that walked past him and sat on one of the free chairs until he reached down into his bag, grabbing a book from it. The sound of the zipper woke him up and made him shift. He glanced back for a moment to see what had caused it.
He caught sight of a pair of deep green eyes that bore into his own. The moment they connected he felt like he was electrocuted. A shock went trough his body and he glanced away quickly. He hadn’t looked anyone in the eye for a very long time. Not without his mask on. Not without a fake smile. He didn’t feel secure doing so.
He stole a quick glance at the person again, who was now reading in a book with a title in a language he didn’t understand. He had, for the split second their eyes had connected, believed it was a woman reading in the chair across from him. But now he realized it was, one very flat-chested woman, or a guy with slightly feminine face.
He knew it was man, because now he had taken a better look there was no doubt about it. But he still wasn’t very ordinary looking. Oh well…
He looked away again, hating he was so bored he was actually studying other passengers. He turned, an looked out over the sea again. Yeah, that was much better.

“Captain.”
“I see it too.”
“Captain.”
“Calm down boy.”
“We need to do something captain. It's heading our way.”
“No it isn’t. It will be just fine.”
“The guests need to go inside. That is the least we can do.”
“It is not necessary Johnson. We won’t even know it is there. I’ve dealt with this before.”
“Captain, it is heading this way. It will hit us.”
“Nonsense.”
“Captain…”
“NONSENSE! Now go back to your work. It will all be fine.”
The old captain leaned with both hands on the windowsill of his window. The window that looked out over the calm and peaceful sea that reached all the way to the horizon. A trickle of sweat slid down his forehead, and the drop fell on one of his shaking hands. More then 40 years, he had done this. This was his last trip before he would retire. So he could finally live in the quiet and peaceful life in his villa in the south of France with his wife.
He hadn’t expected this. The weather report had said nothing about a tornado. But the radar didn’t lie. A huge tornado that had just raised out of the water and of a size he had never even considered possible. That was what it told him, and he knew he was in trouble. It wasn’t far from where they were heading either. It wasn’t far at all. And yes, it was heading for them. It was coming for them. It was coming right towards the boat.
It would hit them. The tornado would definitely hit the ship. And it would be a matter of hours, minutes, seconds maybe. It was going so fast, he had no idea how long they would last.
And they were in the middle of nowhere. There was no other boat. No plane. No nothing. There would be no help. He could contact them, but they would never make it in time. And the little boats to save them, it would all be useless. The boats would simply get blown away. This tornado would destroy everything on his way. They would have more chance if they just stayed on the boat now. Sit tight and pray to every single god.
He locked his cabinet, and sat quietly in his chair, eyes fixed on the horizon. Waiting for the horror to come.
There was nothing they could do, and so he decided to give his passengers a peaceful trip for as long it would last. They would only realize the danger they were in, when it was too late. They would only realize it, when it had already hit them.
