Persephone slipped between two buildings and moved in the direction of the Old Catholic church, feeling a heavy presence there. She stopped and turned her attention back to the high school she had spent so much time with her brothers and friends. She shook her head and glanced at the church before heading toward the high school.
She knelt behind a car as the sun set completely behind the high school. She remained sitting behind the car as the front doors opened and someone walked out. She threw her abilities out and found that it was a vampire, moving as soon as she received the knowledge, shooting him before he hit the bottom step.
With the gunshot, all Hell seemed to break loose. Demons and vampires began to pour from the doors, one being shot after another. With her enhanced speed, Persephone could load the shotgun before they moved too far down the stairs. She was reloading her gun again when a voice sounded from the doors.
“Stop. Everyone back inside. I will handle this one myself.” Persephone turned the newly loaded gun towards the voice, fear moving through her heart. It couldn’t be. She wouldn’t let it be. Yet, as the vampires and demons went back inside, her oldest brother stood before her. “Persephone, it has been a long time. What brings you home to us?”
“I am not here to join you, Gerard, if that’s what you are thinking. I’m here to stop you from killing innocents.”
“But innocents are so much fun, Persephone.” Fear shot through Persephone again as she recognized the voice before Ray Toro came out, unruly hair and all. “Would you have us starving to death? We need to feed to live.”
“But you do not have to feed off the innocents, Ray. There are so many other ways to survive. Animals, for instant.” Persephone kept the gun raised, finger on the trigger, though she didn’t think she could kill her brother or close friend.
“Animals aren’t are favorite of things, Persephone. They taste weird and the blood cools so quickly.” Persephone felt something behind her and turned, gun raised. They had surrounded her.
She turned back to face her brother, anger on her face. “Is this how it’s going to be, Gee? You’re going to destroy what little of your family you have left? I always knew you were cruel.”
She turned and fell on her back, blowing the head off a vampire who swung over her head. She got back onto her feet and shot a few more, running back towards the hospital. She could jump to a high window if she had to, but she was really hoping she could get herself out of this situation.
She felt something hit her in the back and turned, firing the shotgun at close range into one of her high school friend’s head. She moved from under his body and kept running, now cover in blood and thicker things. She had hesitated with Gerard and Ray, unacceptable. She turned and shot a demon, but stopped in mid-run to see that she was completely surrounded.
Panic welled in her as she also realized she was out of shotgun shells. She pulled her pistols and held her arms out, pointing the gun on either side of her. She was trapped. She had hesitated with Gerard and it was going to be the death of her. At least she would go out fighting.
The vampires and demons swarmed her and she pulled the trigger, getting one with each gun. Her leg swung around and she easily took the head off a demon. She shot again and hit another two, but there were too many for her to take out by herself. She might as well resign herself to dying.
Buried under bodies, she shook her head and let out a yell. “NO!” She punched up and the bodies flew off of her in every direction. She shot the gun around in a circle and ducked as a black furry mass hit a vampire behind her. The large leopard backed up to her and looked at her with Mikey’s eyes. She nodded and turned back to the other vampires, glad to have company.
Yes, they were outnumbered, but at least she had help now. Even as she thought it, she heard the roar of a large creature as it flew towards them, fire coming from it’s mouth and engulfing the vampires around them. It landed beside Persephone, about the size of a horse, and hit a vampire that was coming at her.
The dragon shook and it’s limbs started to shrink, revealing a barely clad Frank. He moved toward Persephone so he could get a better look at her and still keep an eye on their enemies. “Thought you might need a little help, Persy. Mikey can’t really change back and forth as easily as I can, but he told me to tell you that he wasn’t about to lose you again.”
Persephone nodded, looking around them. There were too many. How could she have thought that she could do this on her own? Half the town and most of the missing travelers were here. Even with Mikey and Frank, there was little to no chance that they would make it out of here alive.
She shook her head and shot two more vampires, popping the empty clips and reloading before shaking her head. “I’m not losing you two either. I will not die in this cursed town.” She took a deep breath and cleared her mind, raising the guns, and taking aim.
The vampires and demons took this as a sign to attack and moved in all at once. Fear overran as her as she realized she was going to die here, in this moment. She pulled off a shot as the air grew warm and a large mass blocked out the moonlight. She looked up at the sound of wings, but saw nothing as the large angel-like creature landed in front of her and took out half the vampires. The others, too afraid of the angel before them, turned tail and ran away.
Persephone stood between Mikey, in his leopard form, and Frank in very little clothing, looking at the blonde hair and large grey wings. She moved her gun an itch up and the wings of the angel in front of her disappeared into his back as he turned around. Her gun came up completely as he came to face her. Her hand shook violently, but her voice managed to be calm as she spoke. “Bob?”
