"Feels good to be home?" Ashley asked, pulling up to the house.
Kelly nodded, stretching in the seat. It had been a long tour. A great tour, yes, but very long, and the sudden battle between her and Carrie had only added to the strain.
"Hey," she said, scratching the stray lab behind the ears. She had always loved dogs, so when the lab showed up a week of two before she left for tour, looking seriously under fed, she took it in right away. Kelly unlocked the front door to the house, Sam walking in right behind her. She didn't know why she called the dog that. She just looked like a Sam.
"What has Jay been feeding you?" she asked as the dog followed her into the kitchen. Sam had definitely filled out from when Kelly had first met her. She picked up the dog's water bowl, refilled it and placed it back down for the lab, scratching her ears once more.
"I've only been feeding her what you told me to," Jason replied, walking into the kitchen, giving his sister a quick hug.
"Hey, I didn't know you were home," Kelly smiled.
"I was in the back, working on some stuff," he said, washing the dirt off his hands. "Long trip?"
"Yea, I think I'm gonna go take a nap."
"Ok, sleep well."
Kelly nodded, patting her leg, "Come on Sam."
The lab immediately stopped what it was doing and followed Kelly up to her room as if the singer hadn't been gone for over two months. Kelly climbed onto her bed and eyed the dog carefully.
"Did Jay give you a bath today like he was supposed to?"
Sam just stared back at her, lifting a paw to the edge of the bed.
"Oh, alright," Kelly said, scooting over. "I'll give you a bath after, and just wash my sheets.”
The dog jumped onto the bed, curling up against her. Kelly smiled. She had missed that warmth while she was on tour.

Carrie climbed into her bed, turning on the television.
"And it seems that the Idol feud has taken on another level as Kelly makes her feelings about Carrie very clear with one simple eye movement." They switched to a clip of an off-camera reporter asking Kelly exactly what she thought of Carrie and everything that was going on. Kelly just rolled her eyes as she and Ashley exited the airport.
Carrie shut off the t.v. agitatedly, tossing the remote to the other side of the bed. So, apparently the Texas native didn't even think Carrie was worthy of a response. Well, two can play that game.
+++++++++
"So, it's now referred to as the eye-roll incident," Ashley laughed as Kelly threw the frisbee for Sam to chase.
"Ok, seriously. None of the reporters even asked me that question," Kelly sighed. "You were there, you heard."
"I know, but wait, her response is even better."
"I don't wanna hear it," Kelly said, squatting down as Sam ran back happily, the frisbee in her mouth.
"Why not?"
"Because I'm tired of it. I'm letting this stress me out, and it's not even worth it. Almost none of it is true, and at this point I don't even care anymore."
Ashley pouted.
Kelly rolled her eyes, standing and throwing the frisbee again, "Alright, what did she say?"
"Well, when asked what she thought about the said eye-roll incident, Carrie replied, 'Well, if she doesn't think I'm worthy of a response, then I don't think she is either'."
Kelly looked as Ashley in disbelief, "You're kidding right?"
Ashley shook her head, both of them breaking into laughter.
"What is she, like in junior high or something? Seriously, that is just dumb."
"I know, but it is funny."
Kelly's smile faded.
"What?"
"I'm just worried."
"About?"
"About how all this must look to my fans and stuff. I mean, I know none of that stuff they say about me is true, and I know that I never said any of that, but they don't know that. I don't want them to think I'm one of those petty rich girls who are only famous because they are constantly in the tabloids," she said, bending down to greet Sam again. She took the frisbee, and Sam licked her square on the face, making her giggle.
"Come on, Kelly, you know they don't think that. They know you better than that."
"I hope," she sighed, standing back up. "Come on Sam, let's go inside. Time for dinner."
The dog happily obliged, walking along side the short singer back to the house.

Carrie groaned at the sound of her phone ringing, her head pounding in protest. It had been another late night at some bar with her 'friends'. She knew alcohol had been involved, but wasn't sure what else. She blindly reached out for her phone, finding it, and bringing it to her ear.
" 'llo?" she greeted, rubbing her eyes.
"Carrie, hey this is Sarah, Clive's new receptionist."
Carrie nodded, not even bothering to catch her name. The poor girl would be replaced by next week, anyways.
"I'm just calling to say that Clive would like to schedule a meeting with you sometime in the near future."
"What for?" Carrie asked. She knew the mogul didn't just have one-on-ones for no reason.
"He didn't say," Stacey replied. Or was it Susan? Carrie shrugged, not caring.
"When?"
"A week from today at eleven."
"Alright," Carrie sighed. "Tell him, I'll see him then."

Kelly stood in the elevator, wringing her hands. She felt as if she were back in high school, trying to figure out what it was she did wrong as she waited outside the principal's office. She tried to distract herself with the latest development in the war. Apparently, she had called Carrie an upscale whore. That was definitely news to her.
Kelly pulled out her phone that was vibrating in her pocket, "Hey Jay."
"Hey, I know you're busy, but I thought you'd want to know..."
"Know what?"
"I'm taking Sam to the animal hospital. She hasn't been acting normal at all lately, and I'm really starting to worry about her."
Kelly froze, "But, she's gonna be ok, right?
"I don't know Kell. I never really had any pets growing up. I'm not too sure what's going on, but I'm sure she'll be fine. I'll make sure she gets the best treatment possible, ok?"
"Yea, ok," Kelly nodded, wiping away the tears that were forming.
"Well, I'm pulling up to the hospital right now, so I'm gonna let you go, alright?"
"Yea, keep me posted."
"I will."
"And tell Sam I love her," she added.
Jason smiled sadly, as he lifted the heavy dog carefully in his arms.
"I'm sure she knows."
"Tell her anyway," Kelly pleaded.
"Alright. See you soon."
"Bye Jay."
Kelly slid her phone back into her jeans pocket, taking a deep breath. As if the day weren't bad enough already, now her baby girl was in the hospital.
Kelly walked up to the door, knocking twice as was custom before opening it.
"Kelly," he greeted with a thin smile.
"Clive," she greeted warmly, knowing he hated that. She suddenly noticed the back of a blonde sitting in one of the chairs before his desk.
"Oh, I'm sorry. Your secretary told me to come up. I'll wait outside," she said, turning back around.
"No, no, I want the both of you here, together."
Kelly looked at him questioningly. He smiled at the girl sitting before him. She turned her head to Kelly, a fierce look in her eyes.
"Carrie?" Kelly asked in surprised.
Carrie gave her the once over before turning back around. Kelly looked back at Clive. Could this day get any weirder?
"Please sit," Clive said, motioning to the other chair as he sat back down in his own, facing the two singers.
Kelly did as she was told, hoping she got answers real soon.
"So, as I was just telling Carrie while we waited for you to arrive--"
"I had an emergency call from home," Kelly explained her tardiness.
"Oh, I hope everything's ok," he smiled thickly.
"I'm sure you do," she replied, through gritted teeth.
"Anyway, as I was saying, I called the two of you to discuss your relationship."
"Our relationship?" Kelly asked, trying not to laugh.
"Or lack there of," Clive replied. "You see, this little feud you two have going, isn't doing either of you any good."
"Yea, because this whole thing started cause we thought it would work wonders for the both of us," Kelly rolled her eyes.
"You see, if you'd be more like Carrie and just listen without making these smart ass comments, we could get through this meeting a lot faster."
Kelly glared at him, but didn't speak, wanting to get out of this creepy situation as fast as possible.
"Right, so as I was saying, this little tiff between the two of you is actually hurting the both of you very much. Now, while I normally say all press is good press, I'm currently taking that back. A lot of people are saying that the two of you are just like every other famous for nothing celebrity gallivanting around in the tabloids."
Kelly frowned; this is exactly what she didn't want to happen.
"Now, I know that no matter what my differences are with you, I know that neither of you should be ranked with those people. So the question is, what can we do about it?"
Kelly looked at him, waiting for the answer. She could see Carrie sliding further down in her seat out of the corner of her eye.
"You two become friends," he said, happily.
"Huh?" Kelly asked.
"Well, not necessarily friends. I mean, on the inside you can go on hating each other, for all I care."
Kelly rolled her eyes, "I don't hate her."
Clive looked at Carrie who didn't say anything.
"Like I said, you can go on hating each other on the inside, but on the outside I want you two to be best friends," he said, clapping his hands together.
"Huh?" Kelly repeated.
"You know, going to the parties together. Hanging out. Saying nice things about each other."
"I don't go to the parties in the first place," Kelly pointed out.
"Well, from now on, every time I see one of your faces on the television or in a magazine, the other one better be attached to your hip."
"You have got to be kidding me," she replied, looking from Clive to Carrie who was glaring at the music mogul. "You realize how ridiculous this is, right?"
"I think it's the best solution for the problem at hand, don't you?" he asked, turning to Carrie who's gaze turned so cold that Kelly swore she felt the temperature drop several degrees in the room. So apparently, Carrie was his puppet after all.
"No," Kelly said, turning back to Clive.
"Excuse me?"
"No," she repeated. "Look, I have nothing against you," she said to Carrie. "I think you're a great singer, and you've always been sweet, so I've chosen to ignore everything I've been hearing, but I'm not doing this," she shook her head, turning back to Clive. "I have my own friends, my own life. You can't just make me be friends with somebody."
"Yes, I can," he replied with a smile.
"Oh, yea?" Kelly questioned. "And how is that?"
"You're next album."
"What about my next album?" she questioned. "You haven't even heard any of the songs yet. You can't possibly hate them already."
"I'll give you complete freedom."
"Meaning?"
"You write the songs. You pick the songs. You pick the producer. You have final say in everything."
"Aren't I already doing that?" Kelly asked.
"And I will support the album one hundred percent," Clive responded with a smirk. "No matter what, I will push the record like it's the best thing ever created."
Kelly eyed him carefully, "All we have to do is hang out?"
"That's it. Hang out. No more badmouthing."
"I never bad mouthed her," Kelly pointed out.
Carrie scoffed on the side of her.
"I never bad mouthed you," Kelly insisted, turning to Carrie. Carrie ignored her, as she continued to stare into the empty space before her.
"So is it a deal?" Clive asked, holding out his hand.
Kelly eyed it carefully, feeling as if she were about to make a deal with the devil himself. However, the offer was just too good to be true.
"Deal," she said, shaking his hand. Her phone started to vibrate in her pocket. She pulled it out, seeing it was Jason.
"I need to take this," she said, standing.
"That's fine, I need to talk to Carrie some more."
Kelly nodded once more, looking at the blond curiously, before walking out of the office, closing the door behind her.
"Talk to me Jay. How's my girl?" she said, bringing the phone to her ear.
"I don't know. A vet's seeing her now. They're running some tests. They should be out any minute."
Kelly paced the hall nervously.
"Jay, she has to be ok."
"I know," he replied, softly.
Kelly continued to pace the hall, waiting for Jason to get some word.
"Oh there's the vet," Jason said, standing from his seat in the waiting room to greet the doctor.
Kelly froze, holding her breath, waiting for the news.
"Oh, thank God," she heard Jason sigh on the other side.
"What?" Kelly asked frantically. "What is it?"
"She's gonna be ok," Jason said happily.
"Oh, thank God," Kelly said, repeating her brother's sentiment as she slid down the wall to the floor. "So why was she acting weird?"
"Kell, she's pregnant. She's gonna have puppies."
"Puppies?" Kelly asked excitedly.
"Yep."
"Sam's a Momma Sam?"
"Yep," Jason laughed.
"Thanks so much for taking care of her Jay," Kelly said. "I'll see you two soon."
"Be safe," Jay replied.
Kelly hung up her phone, allowing her head to fall into her hands, tiredly. She let the couple of tears that had been threatening to fall, fall as she took a deep breath.
"Are you ok?" a gentle voice asked.
Kelly looked up to see Carrie looking down on her. Her worried eyes were so much softer than the icy ones she had seen in Clive's office, that she wondered if the country singer had an identical twin.
"Oh," Kelly said, standing up quickly. "Yea, just got some really good news, which is exactly what I needed to hear."
"The emergency?" Carrie questioned.
"Yea, it was my dog. My brother thought she was sick, so he rushed her to the vet. Come to find out she's just pregnant."
Carrie nodded before turning to walk away.
"Wait, don't you think we should talk about this," Kelly said.
Carrie turned back around, her eyes cold again, "No."
Kelly watched as the blonde stiffly walked away.
