Chapter Two
"Did you like it?" he asked as everyone in the theater applauded thunderously. She looked over at him with a faint smile.
"I loved it," she replied as his smile grew a bit wider. "So much drama but just enough action too," she commented.
"I'm glad you liked it," he said softly touching her cheek. She blushed and looked away. Looking over at his co-stars he saw them standing up and packing out and back into the hall. "Come to the after party with me," he said as he stood holding his hand out for her to take. She hesitated.
"I'm not sure," she said uneasily. "I mean – my friends they-"
"You're friends will be okay," he interrupted her. "Come on," he pushed holding his hand out further towards her. Looking into his eager eyes she slowly placed her hand in his. He pulled her up and began leading her out into the hall. Leading her outside to his awaiting limo he let her go in first and then climbed in himself. A few minutes later they were on the road. He saw her nervously playing with the hem of her skirt. "Don't be nervous," he told her as he took her hands in his and turned his body to face her. "Tell me your name."
"Annabelle," she answered. "Annabelle Scott," she finished.
"A beautiful name," he commented. "Has anyone ever told you how beautiful you are?" he asked as his eyes danced in her green eyes. She nervously bit her lip and looked away.
"Not recently," she told him. Hooking his free finger under her chin he lifted her face to look him in the eye.
"Well I'm telling you now that I think you're beautiful and that you've got the most stunning green eyes I've ever seen," he said as he felt nervous himself. This was very bold of him.
"I don't…I don't know how to respond to that," she muttered.
"Go with your heart," he said as his lips curled in a small smile. She leaned into him a bit more and whispered in his ear.
"Are you implying that you find me attractive, Tobey Maguire?" she whispered. He shuddered feeling her breath on his skin. He slowly nodded. She looked up at him, her eyes big. "Kiss me," she requested softly.
Slowly he leaned his body into her even more and pulled her waist towards him filling in the gap. Turning his head to the side his eyes closed as his lips made contact with hers. Electricity shot through their bodies as they moved their heads together creating major sparks between them. As the kiss grew in intensity he moved a free hand to fist her hair pulling her even closer to him. Licking her lip she opened her mouth for him as his tongue began caressing hers. Time stood still for the two but before they knew it there was a knock on the door. Pulling away abruptly the pair did all they could to compose themselves as the limo door opened. Tobey got out first and held his hand out for Annabelle who gladly took his awaiting hand as she stepped out of the limo.
"Just stick close to me and you'll be fine," he told her as they began moving along. Tobey stopped for more photos and in the middle waved Annabelle over who hesitantly walked over to him as more flashes went off around them. Little did she know what her future was now going to hold, but as Tobey put his arm around her waist and held onto her tightly as they smiled for pictures she knew that things would be better now.
"Tobey – who's this beautiful lady with you tonight?" a reporter asked as they passed by. Tobey stopped and smiled for the reporter and looked into the camera.
"This is a close friend," he said. "She's beautiful and I knew if I took her out tonight I'd be the envy of every guy in Hollywood," Tobey laughed as Annabelle blushed.
"What's your name?" the reporter asked her. She looked at Tobey and he subtly nodded approval.
"Annabelle," she answered. The reporter smiled at her.
"Well it's nice to meet you Annabelle." Annabelle smiled back. "I do hope to see more of you and Tobey together for other premiers and such." Tobey smiled widely at the reporter as the pair moved on.
After an hour of pictures and interviews Tobey and Annabelle finally made it inside. A waitress walked passed and offered them a drink. Annabelle took a Cosmo and Tobey took a beer.
"Want to meet some celebrities?" Tobey asked in Annabelle's ear. The room was crowed, loud, and thumping with loud music. Annabelle shook her head.
"I'd rather be with you," she replied. He looked at her and smiled.
"If you want to, let me know. I'll have to introduce you to Leonardo DiCaprio sometime. He's a good friend of mine," Tobey mentioned.
"I know," Annabelle replied. "I know a few things about you…don't worry," she laughed as she took a sip of her Cosmo.
"Well then…how about we go somewhere where I can learn a little about you?" Tobey asked. Annabelle smiled uneasily.
"Perhaps. But don't you think we should stay here? It's your premier party," she replied. Tobey shook his head.
"I did the premier. This is just for fun. Let's go somewhere," Tobey said as he took Annabelle's nearly finished drink and his own. Placing them on the bar he turned back to his female companion and looped his arm for her. She giggled and looped her arm inside his. Walking out of the party he led her back to his limo where he told his driver where he wanted to go. As the car started he turned to her. "Tell me a little about yourself."
"Why?" she asked. "I'm just going to be another face in the crowd by tomorrow morning," she replied.
"Don't say that," he responded taking her hands in his. "Don't think about that right now. I want to know you. Let me in," he said as his eyes pleaded for her to open up. She looked down and sighed.
"I come from Massachusetts but moved here to LA due to work. I work for a magazine and I'm fairly new to this area. I moved here about two months ago. I don't have a boyfriend cause I know that would be a question, and I have no friends except for Taylor and Liz," she said softly. "I'm also twenty-six years old. My parents are divorced and I rarely see my father; he's always off in his own world and too busy for me normally," she sighed. "I really don't want to talk about myself," she said turning her head away from him. "There's a lot of stuff …I just want to focus on you and this moment," she frowned. He could see she was hiding something as her eyes became slightly moist.
"I won't pressure you anymore. I don't want to see you cry," he said softly as he rubbed his hands up and down her arms.
"Thanks," she said weakly as she sniffed. "I don't like talking about myself that much. If I want someone to know something about me, I'll tell them. Otherwise my actions show the kind of person I am," she said. He leaned back against the seat and placed his hand on her forehead pulling her back to him. She put her head on his shoulder and sighed. "I wish you could just hold me forever," she whispered as she looked out of the tinted window. "Nobody holds me anymore," she said sadly as she closed her eyes, feeling the heat of his embrace. Tobey almost didn't hear her. Instead of responding he just held her close to him keeping silent all the way to their destination.
------------------
"Hey," he whispered nudging her lightly. "Hey Annabelle…wake up." Slowly Annabelle lifted her head from his shoulder and looked into Tobey's eyes.
"I fell asleep?" she asked groggily. "Where are we?" she asked as she lifted herself up and looked out the limo window.
"You did. And I didn't have the heart to wake you because you looked so peaceful. We're at my hotel because I didn't know where your home was so I figured you'd spend the night with me then go home in the morning," Tobey said. She looked at him with fear. As if reading her mind he held up his hands. "It's not like that," he told her. The door to the limo opened and Tobey slid out. Holding his hand to her he said, "Come on. I promise it'll be alright."
Sighing she placed her hand in his and allowed him to help her out of the low car. Tobey placed his arm around her shoulder and led her into the foyer of the immaculate hotel. As she stepped into his room she couldn't help but think to herself that she needed to change her life around. Perhaps now was the perfect time to work on herself and become the woman she always wanted to be.
