Martin blinked a few times at the question that had just been posed to him.
“Andrew did you just…” He stopped and looked up at the tall ginger angel peering down seriously at him from behind thick rimmed glasses. “Please don’t tell me you didn’t ask me what I thought you just did.” Martin finally managed, not even wanting to repeat the request or think about it for another moment.
“Why not? Martin, I hate to be insensitive about it but it’s been a very long time, even in our terms, you need to move on. You can’t be planning on being alone for the rest of eternity. It’s unhealthy, mate.” The matter of fact expression never once wavered from his face. The space they inhabited was shiftingly pleasant and beautiful. It’s wasn’t a garden, a cloudscape, a café in Paris or an ornate golden palace, but it was also all of these things at one and more.
“I’m not alone…” He caught himself and started again. “That is to say, I’m not lonely; really, I just don’t want to be with anyone right now.” He was relieved to see that while his friend clearly didn’t believe him he didn’t seem to catch the slip. Andy opened his mouth to say something but Martin cut him off. “And even if I was going to get involved with someone else it certainly wouldn’t be you. You’re like a brother, it would be…far too strange.” He looked more annoyed the hurt and Martin supposed that was a good thing.
“Fine.” He said shortly, “I’ll just take my brotherly affections elsewhere.” He glared for a moment but soon his face fell back into a neutral expression and he sighed heavily while he adjusted his glasses. “I’m still concerned,” Andy continued and Martin shoulders slumped slightly and he fought the desire to roll his eyes, feeling again like a child being lectured. “You have been disappearing for long periods of time again. I can under stand wanting to be alone but…”
“You have been reading my files.” Martin was so angry that it only registered as a cold stare and a dead tone. He hated how Andy constantly used his position to check up on him and there wasn’t a damn thing he could do about it.
“It was well with in my rights, You know I have near full access to all the record books.” He’s tone then switched back from almost apologetic to reprimanding again, “In fact, Martin, if I think that something is amiss it is my job to look in to it, and you have been pretty bloody amiss these days. Disappearing for days, leaving charges unguarded and tasks half finished.”
“I’m fucking fine Andrew. You’re not my babysitter or my mum. I can handle myself just fine thank you.” He almost shouted then crossed his arms over his chest and leaned back in to his chair to put more space between them.
“You seem to be handling your self rather poorly from what I’ve read.” He only raised an eyebrow at as the angry little angel recoiled.
“I’ve been doing just the same as ever.” He returned defensively, his features tightening in annoyance.
“One of yours died this morning, the young woman in London passed way in hospital after being in a car accident last night.” Andy stopped as he noticed the shock on the blonds face, “You didn’t even know did you?” He asked in complete disbelief.
“She, oh. I… I liked her.” Martin stared down at nothing, filling with a dull sadness, his anger at his old friend lost for the moment. Andy frowned for a moment sensing the change; if he felt it he knew it had to be bad. Andy was more perceptive then most angels but Martin was always a brick wall to him, he always had been to everyone. Except Alan. The thought brought old suspicions to the front of his mind. Andy stared hard at the blond, furious at even the idea that he might be trying to contact the demon.
“Where were you last night, Martin?” He was no longer talking to a friend but to a fellow angel, one who had just fucked up royally.
“I…” Martin paused trying to remember the excuse he had constructed for himself in the face of
“That’s it, I’m requesting that you get taken of field work. You need to stay close to home where we can keep an eye on you.” Andrew said with a heavy sigh, and moved to stand.
“You… You can’t! You don’t have the authority.” He shouted uselessly knowing full well that he did. Andy just shook his head and walked away, unwaveringly sure that he was doing what was best. Martin stared down at nothing again; all he could think was that he was trapped. There would be no way he could see Alan again. Even if they did let him out again as soon as Andy got back with his report he would be under constant watch.
He had to make a choice and he had to make it now.

“David.” Alan stared flatly at the fit tattooed demon; impressive dark brown, nearly black, feathered wings where curled behind him, the size of them closed was unreal, fully stretched they could have eclipsed all light from a mid day sky. They exactly match the colour of his short hair. He ran a tongue over a pronounced white fang and then grinned widely showing both sharp eyeteeth. A tight and thin black sleeveless shirt hugged his torso and came a few inches short of the low waist ban of his tight gray trousers, revealing his pronounced and perfectly shaped hip bones that drew the bulk of Alan’s attention as he took in the sight of him.
“Miss me, lover?” Dave asked with a mocking twitch of a smile. Alan walked up to him, face showing nothing of the strong and instant attraction he felt seeing him again. He stopped just out of arms length, making him cross that distance if it was going to be crossed.
“Of course.” There was little effort in the lie, his blue eyes glowed dully in the inherent darkness of the cold breathing and shifting non-space they stood in. There was a flash of red through Dave’s own deep hazels at Alan’s words and he took the step to put his face a breath away from Alan’s. He glared up at Alan anger shining clearly for him read.
“You fuck, you smell like him.” He wasn’t sure if the demon was going to cry or strike him, instead he surprised him and just turned on his heal and walked away. He stopped before disappearing completely. “Come on.” He asked with out turning too hurt and angry to trust himself if he was to look at him.
“I don’t feel like it now David.” At this he did turn and actually growled at Alan clearly baring his fangs that looked all the more pronounced for the snarl.
“You think I actually want to touch you right now? You…” He tried to calm himself and managed to rein it in a bit. “I’m sure your little whore took good care of you but we have work to do now, Alan. The world isn’t going to end it self while you're upstairs shagging the enemy.”
“He’s not…” He stopped it was useless to defend him now it would only piss him off more so he swallowed his anger. “Since when are you so fucking gung-ho?” Dave turned and started walking once Alan started moving to follow him.
“Since you gave me a reason to want everything destroyed, love.” He paused and when he spoke again his voice lost the edge of madness and just burned with anger. “We are on car bombs, it’s going to be a long day.”
