Lying in his bunk on the tour bus, he tried to write something decent. Tried and failed miserably. He hadn’t been able to write anything decent in months and it was starting to wear on him. He could only manage a line here and there but nothing seemed to flow like it used to. So he’d scratch it out or toss the paper in the rubbish bin and start over but nothing he wrote sounded good anymore. Leaning his head against the window, he watched the cars pass the bus on the highway waiting for some inspirational miracle to come his way. He was startled out of his stupor by a light tap on his shoulder.
“Hey, Lintu. Is everything ok?” Aki asked him. Please tell me what is wrong, Aki silently added. He watched his friend and band member turn to stare back out the window.
“It’s nothing Aki. Just watching the traffic, trying to figure this song out.” Lauri replied with little feeling. Then he sighed and turned back to Aki. “I just can’t do it anymore! I’m done. I can’t write anything but shit lately.” He said, putting his head in his hands. Aki sat next to him and put his hand on Lauri’s shoulder. It hurt him to see his friend like this.
“Lauri, it’s ok. We all have dry spells sometimes. It’ll come back. Just wait. You’ve had this sort of thing happen before. True, it’s never lasted this long but don’t worry about it. Maybe you just need a break. We have a long tour before we have to even think about going back to the studio. No pressure!” he said, trying to cheer him up.
“Thanks man. Maybe I do need a break. We’ve got a few free days in London, right? How about hitting up some of the bars? I hear they have some good ones there!” Lauri said, falling back on alcohol to sidetrack Aki. When Aki just grinned, he continued, “I think I’m gonna take a nap. Mind leaving my bed?” Aki laughed, and with a quick punch to his shoulder left Lauri to sleep.

Hours later, he woke to find the bus empty and parked outside of their hotel in London. It was a few days until the gig and they all had a nice break to just be lazy. There were only a few interviews and sound checks in the next week. This was going to be good. Grabbing his backpack and guitar, he stepped off the bus and hurried into the hotel, spotting the press being held back by hotel security on his way in. Pauli and Aki were standing in the lobby, talking about which bar to go to that night. Pauli saw him enter and waved Lauri over.
“We’re already checked in. Separate rooms this time. None of us have to deal with Aki and his girls this week!” Pauli said, handing Lauri his room key while dodging a punch from Aki. “Hey, watch it! You’re in 816 and I think you have the only balcony room of the group. How do you always end up with the good ones? I’m two floors down in 627, Aki’s in 631, and I think Eero’s on the fifth floor.”
“So what are you going to do, sleeping beauty?” Aki asked him. “We were gonna go down the street. Pauli saw a pub there.”
“Me? I’m going to finish that nap I started on the bus. Catch you guys later. Dinner?” Lauri asked over his shoulder as he turned towards the elevators at the end of the lobby. Pauli and Aki only nodded and left. Walking away he hit the up button for the lift and climbed in the first one to arrive. He heard a shout just as the doors started closing.
“Wait! Hold the lift please!” a girl yelled in an American accent. She ducked in as he put his hand in the doors to stop them from closing. “Thanks!” she gasped and leaned against the wall, tossing her long chocolate hair over her shoulder. “Oh, almost forgot…” reaching forward, she went to push the level 8 button and then noticed it was already lit. “You’re on 8 too, huh? Ok.” Leaning back she started messing with the camera in her hands as the doors closed for good. Lauri shied away from the camera, thinking she might be some of the press he saw outside when she said “For goodness sakes I’m not gonna take your picture, even though I know who you are. I’m just looking at the shots I got outside. Gods, these lifts are slow here.”
“You know who I am?” he asked, surprised, even though he ought to be used to it by now. It had been happening for over ten years after all. He was just so used to fans screaming when the saw him. They usually asked for a picture, an autograph, shag. It took him by surprise when she didn’t do any of those.
“Yep, you are amazingly easy to recognize. Lauri Ylönen from the Rasmus. So?” she replied without even looking up.
“But, uh, you’re not screaming OHMYGOD ITS HIM like all the others…” he was a little confused, but it was nice to not be fawned over like he was candy or something.
Looking up at him she laughed. “NO! Why would I do that? You are just a guy who sings for a living. Although you do write some of my favorite lyrics. Really deep stuff. I bet you get the crazy fan girls drooling on you all the time. That must really suck.” She smiled. Lauri saw she was being honest about not really caring who he was so he relaxed a bit. The lift doors opened up just as he was about to ask her name. She stepped out and walked down the hall to her room, which he noticed, was across the hall and down one from his. “Nice talking to you. See ya around, then?” she said over her shoulder as he was digging the key out of his pocket.
“Uh, yeah. Probably.” He stammered as she walked into her room. Finally getting his door open, he went in to finish his nap, never noticing the grin he had.

“Are you stalking me?” the cute girl asked as she held the doors open for him a few hours later. She giggled at his little grin. His eyes lit up when he smiled like that.
“I was just going to ask you the same thing. Going somewhere?” Lauri asked her, gesturing to the pajama’s and robe she wore. At that she giggled again.
“Nope, just a snack run. Unfortunately all of the vending machines are in the second floor guest lobby. Where are you headed this late? Out to tear up the town?” she questioned him with a wink.
“Naturally!” he replied as she stepped out on the second floor. “Hey! I never got your name.”
“It’s Ivy.” She said as the doors closed.
