Omni POV
Shadows watched Vengeance and Christ sleeping peacefully curled against each other after exhausting themselves with their play. Long fingers glided through his hair and down his wings and he leaned his head back against Synyster’s shoulder. The other angel wrapped a wing around his shoulders and pressed a kiss against his cheek. Jimmy wasn’t quite asleep but with each blink his eyes stayed closed a little longer. Shadows was worried about the skinny human, he had devoured the fruit and fish they had given him and he seemed thinner than the last time he had seen him. He pushed the worry to the back of his mind though, they would keep him fed and healthy.
“What are we going to do about Vengeance and Christ?” Synyster murmured. Shadows pressed a little closer to him and closed his eyes, “I don’t know.” He admitted tiredly. “What’s wrong with Vengeance and Christ?” Jimmy asked shaking off some of the sleepiness. “Demons can’t stay in the earth sphere indefinitely. They’ll need to return to Dimmur in a month or they’ll waste away and die.” Synyster answered softly. The rest of the sleep disappeared and Jimmy sat up worriedly, “What? Why? What about you guys?” Shadows closed his eyes and listened to the night sounds of the island while he explained. “Angels can stay in the earth sphere for centuries if need be because all angels are born in the earth sphere. Most die young and are then put into training to become Avengers or Guardians or any other sort of angel. Demons are born in Dimmur and if they’re on any plane other than that it drains their life force.” He figured Jimmy looked confused when Synyster gave a more in depth explanation. “Each plane has a different type of energy frequency, like radio waves, since angels are born on the earth plane we are in tune with the frequency here. Growing on the Eldur plane after our deaths here also puts us in tune with that frequency so our bodies naturally shift preventing any strain on us. Demons know only the Dimmur frequency so coming to a different plane takes a lot of energy because they have to anchor themselves using their life energy. So if they stay on a plane too long the anchor will literally suck the life out of them. They need to return to Dimmur once a moon cycle, a month, to replenish their energy.”
“Okay, so can’t you guys just sneak them back to Dimmur for a minute and then bring them right back? The entire plane isn’t occupied by angels and demons is it?” Jimmy asked slowly. Shadows felt Synyster shake his head, “It will take longer than that for them to regain their strength. If they hold out the full month they’ll need to stay in Dimmur for at least a week and that is the absolute minimum.”
“They can hold out a little longer with my blood but that really puts them at their breaking point and recovery is much slower.” Shadows said. He opened his eyes and rolled his head forward. He could see perfectly well in the cloying darkness and he found Jimmy squinting at him and swatting away mosquitoes while he thought. Since they weren’t from the earth plane most creatures avoided the angels and demons, insects included. “Close your eyes a moment.” Shadows said. As soon as his eyes were shut he let a flame blossom in his hand before setting it on the sand where it grew a little bigger and cast off pleasant warmth in the tropical night air and dispelled the insects. Jimmy blinked his eyes open and stared at the fire, retreating bugs forgotten for the moment. “That is so cool.” He said awed. Shadows smiled and leaned his head back again. “Any Fallen worth their wings can do it.” Vengeance grumbled. Jimmy cast him an annoyed glare, “Keep it up bat boy and I’ll throw you in the water with your sharky friends.” Vengeance and Christ snickered and scooted a little closer to the fire. Despite the tropical climate it was still a few degrees too chilly for them. “Vengeance, how long have you two been here?” Shadows asked seriously. Vengeance raised his head some to look at him and Christ took the opportunity to burrow his head into his chest. Vengeance tightened his hold on him, “About two weeks.” He answered quietly. Christ made a sound that must have been confirmation because Vengeance nodded and repeated his answer. Shadows growled low in his throat, Synyster nuzzled his temple. “Relax, we’ll figure something out.”
“Well, what about me?” Jimmy asked. Shadows looked at him with a raised eyebrow inviting him to elaborate. “You said they can stay here longer if you give them blood right? So what if I give them some too? I mean, there’s gotta be something special about it if I’m the son of Adam and Eve.” He said hopefully. The angels stared at him and even Vengeance and Christ broke themselves apart enough to stare as well. Jimmy looked from face to face, “What? Is that too obvious? Am I gonna kill them or something? Why the hell are you all staring at me like that!” Shadows shook himself some and sat up, “It won’t hurt them.” He started slowly, “But Jimmy, giving blood…it’s not quite as straight forward as that.”
“What? You guys need some virgin sacrifice or something?” He asked warily, “Because I have been laid and I’m not just saying that.” Shadows felt a smile tug his lips, “You watch far too many movies.” He said amused. Synyster chuckled behind him, “No Jimmy, there are no sacrifices. But giving blood, even offering to give blood is a sign of great respect and honor. To actually do it symbolizes your willingness to give your life for the recipient.” Jimmy cocked his head to the side, “Huh?” Shadows stood and stretched his wings. “Blood is life for any species of any plane. To give blood is to give your life. If you give your blood to someone else you essentially bind your life to theirs. That means you are willing to die for them, usually only bonded angels and demons share blood.” He looked down on the once again drowsing demons affectionately. Jimmy looked at the two as well. “Nothing is ever simple with you guys is it?” he sighed. Shadows smiled a little, “No, not really.” He shrugged carelessly, “Well, I’ll still do it if you guys think it’ll help.”
“Jimmy this isn’t a small thing.” Synyster warned. “As it is now there is a very good possibility you might be put in a situation where serious or mortal wounds will be inflicted. Are you truly willing to die for Vengeance and Christ?” Jimmy chewed his lip for a moment and then nodded slowly. “They risked their lives for me, I can do the same. And, you know, they’re kinda cute in a sadistic serial killer sort of way.” Synyster let out a breathless laugh and looked up at Shadows. He was still watching the two demons sleep with a smile tugging the corners of his mouth. “Cuddly like a pit viper.” He said finally breaking into a full dimpled smile. Jimmy snorted and Synyster lay back to watch the stars and listen to them. “Sweet as a bad case of food poisoning.” Jimmy added. “We can hear you.” Vengeance grumbled. “And lovable as a rabid coyote.” Shadows said sitting next to Synyster again. A short giggle came from the pair and under Vengeance’s wing Christ’s little body shook with laughter.
Later when the two demons and Jimmy were truly asleep Synyster rolled over half way on top of Shadows and stared down into his golden eyes. “Why are you so restless?” he whispered kissing his throat. “We’re running from the army of Dimmur and avoiding Eldur forces and you wonder why I’m restless?” he answered a bit snappishly. Synyster nipped the soft skin under his chin before getting to his feet and pulling the larger angel up with him. Shadows resisted the entire way but Synyster eventually got him to the warm water’s edge where the waves would cover their quiet conversation. “Tell me what’s bothering you.” He ordered staring Shadows in the eye. The larger angel growled and stared right back but after a moment relented and his gaze slid to the complete blackness over the water but didn’t answer. Synyster sighed and instead of direct confrontation decided to draw his answer out. “I’ve been wondering why Lucifer selected you as his Berserker.” He said softly staring over at the three sleeping figures. “You have kept more close to your heart than most Fallen but there are others like Wrath or Fury that would be better candidates. They’re almost impervious to pain and stronger than you.” He watched his lover out the corner of his eye and saw the muscle in his jaw twitch. But his eyes were still hard. “You know why he skipped over the obvious and went straight for you.” Synyster accused. “Why?” he snapped, “Why you?”
“I have a pre-disposition.” Shadows said through gritted teeth. Synyster glared at him, “Everyone has a pre-disposition for Berserker, anyone that’s ever trusted or loved someone can become the next Berserker.” Shadows shook his head jerkily and then turned and walked down the shoreline further from their small camp. Synyster trailed a few steps behind him waiting for the complicated angel to work out what he wanted to say.
Finally, when the glow of the fire was the only thing seen he stopped and took a few steps further into the surf until the waves brushed the tips of his wings. Synyster stepped in with him and worked himself under a wing. Shadows’ arm wrapped around his waist tightly and he refused to look at him while he spoke. “I was in training to be a Guardian,” he started quietly. Synyster’s eyes widened in surprise but he held his questions until the end. He was intensely curious though how a Guardian, selected for their giving and caring nature, became a ruthless killer amongst the Fallen. As far as anyone in Eldur knew only Avengers tired of dealing with the constraints Eldur placed on them became one of the Fallen.
“I…one day while I was at the healer’s learning more about my talent an Avenger came in with a busted wing. The healer let me patch him since it wasn’t a serious fracture…we talked and I…I liked him.” He took a shuddering breath and Synyster turned in his embrace to wrap his arms around his neck and rest his head on his shoulder a sick feeling welling up in his stomach. Shadows’ arm tightened holding him flush against his body while he continued to force the words out. “We met several times after he finished his training for the day. I…” he froze and Brian stood a little taller to kiss his cheek. He could guess the rest of the story but if Shadows truly wanted to finish this he wasn’t going to put words in his mouth. He waited patiently for Shadows to gain control again. “Abel found us one night.” His voice was coarser than usual and breathier, Synyster held him tight as he could hoping he could lessen the centuries old pain in those few words. “He killed him right there and told me my mentors would deal with me by sunrise.” He swallowed hard, “I…I don’t remember much after that just flashes of faces, fire…blood. When I woke up I was in Dimmur. Lucifer was there. He told me he’d never seen anyone cut down so many.” A shudder racked his entire body and Synyster shifted his body around to the front so he could wrap his wings around him as well as his arms. “I won’t let that happen.” He promised. Shadows’ arms and wings engulfed him and he kissed his neck. “I can’t lose you.” He whispered roughly. Synyster ran his fingers through his hair and tried to reassure him, “You won’t. I won’t let anything happen to you.” Shadows’ lips found his almost desperately. Synyster returned the kiss and smoothed his hands down his wings making him shudder. “Lie with me tonight.” He murmured kissing along his jaw line. Shadows’ stroked the sensitive area between his shoulder blades making him shudder and moan quietly. Shadows lips found his again while his fingers slid along the downy feathers brushing his back, Synyster arched into him with another pleasured sound. He hadn’t known until he met Shadows just how sensitive the juncture between his wings and back was. He pulled Shadows’ hips closer to his with a bruising grip when he rubbed harder on the sensitive area. He couldn’t think when Shadows did that to him, he broke the kiss panting and mewled pleadingly when the fingers didn’t stop. Shadows gently bit his neck and sucked hard on the skin. “Shadows, please.” He begged. He needed to stop something or else he was going to lose control. Shadows’ lips left his neck but the fingers continued and he arched again with a small cry of ecstasy when his other hand snuck under his wing and stroked down the skin and feathers there.
Shadows moved with the rhythm of the water, slow, insistent, and maddening. Synyster rose up to meet each languid thrust with a small cry or gasp. Shadows’ lips never left his skin as they traced down his jaw line and neck and tortured pert nipples. Warm hands smoothed down his sides and across his belly never quite touching his weeping cock, down his thighs and up again to cup his ass. His pace never changed but it was unrelenting and Synyster whimpered and moaned as he arched into the steady thrusts. Shadows’ lips found his again and his hands slid up his back softly teasing the juncture of his wings. Synyster’s arms wrapped around his neck and he pulled himself up enough for him to stroke the downy feathers and skin. He pressed hard in one place and Synyster’s body tightened, he broke the kiss and breathlessly whispered Shadows’ name until his body was done quaking and a satisfied numbness spread through him. Shadows gasped and moaned buried his head in his neck while he rode out his orgasm. Shadows full weight pressed on him for a moment while tiny aftershocks shook his body and then he moved off to the side and covered him with his heavy wing. Synyster rolled into him and pressed against his warm damp skin pressing a kiss to his slightly open mouth. An arm wrapped around his waist and held him close as Shadows kissed his temple.
Shadows woke him when the sun was barely at the horizon. He grumbled and buried his head a deeper into his shoulder. A thumb stroked down his back and he shuddered as his belly tightened with remembered rapture. He finally raised his head and kissed Shadows neck, “Why are we up so early?” he whispered. The larger angel held him close for a second before his grip loosened and Synyster grudgingly got to his feet. “Vengeance and Christ will be up soon and we need to find somewhere else to be, they’ll eventually be able to trace our portals here.” He murmured getting up and kissing him. Synyster sighed and stretched his wings and followed Shadows back to the others.
Vengeance and Christ were just starting to stir when they reached the group. Vengeance’s sleepy green eyes brightened with mischief when they walked up together. “And where did you two spend the night?” he asked slyly. Shadows ignored him and worked on waking Jimmy up, Synyster gave him a devilish smile but didn’t answer. His question pulled an irritated growl from his smaller lover who still had his head hidden under their wings.
“Oh. My. God. Are you serious? I can’t remember the last time I saw a sunrise, you know what, scratch that. I don’t think I’ve ever seen the sunrise and I don’t plan on changing that I don’t give a flying fuck who’s after us.” Jimmy woke up cranky and Vengeance’s tired green eyes darted over to him while he yawned. His mouth settled into an amused grin while Shadows picked the cranky human up and with two flaps of his massive wings was airborne enough to get him to the water and drop him in. “Shadows!” Synyster scolded glaring at him. The angel hovered over the water and shrugged, “It works with Vengeance and Christ and it’ll work on him.” He said carelessly. Jimmy surfaced sputtering and cursing and hurled and handful of sand and shells at the angel. Shadows dodged the glob by dropping the few feet into the surf, Jimmy squeaked in surprise and scrambled out of the water to Synyster who stood in front of him like an angry mother bear. Shadows didn’t pursue and instead walked further into the water and ducked under the waves. Vengeance finally withdrew his wings and launched himself into the sky tumbling Christ out of his warm embrace. The smaller demon rolled to a stop a few feet from the water and sat up with his wings completely askew, covered in sand, with a hurt look on his face. He looked up at Vengeance, who was more than likely showing off his aerial prowess with steep climbs and dives, and made a high keening sound. Vengeance dropped from the sky like his wings had been cut and immediately fussed over the smaller demon until he quieted. Jimmy watched the pair with a raised eyebrow, “What was that all about?” he asked keeping an eye on Shadows still in the water. Synyster laughed quietly, “Nothing, Christ just wants attention.” Jimmy took a chance to leave Synyster’s side and grab his backpack to change into dry clothes. “Wouldn’t it be easier to just tell Vengeance he doesn’t like to be tumbled across the sand.” He asked “Or thrown in the water.” He said louder glaring at Shadows who snapped the water off his wings. The angel ignored him. Synyster smiled and brushed his wet hair off his forehead, “Yes, but Vengeance probably wouldn’t have fussed over him like he did. Like I said, he just wanted attention after such a poor wake up.” He watched the two jump into the air and start circling until they were high enough to dive down and buzz Shadows before shooting into the air again cackling madly. “I feel like they do that a lot.” Jimmy said pulling a shirt on. Synyster shook his head but a smile was still fixed firmly on his face, “I do too.” Shadows exploded out of the water like a geyser and sent Vengeance and Christ squawking and tumbling through the air as they narrowly avoided collision with him and each other. The angel landed next to Synyster and Jimmy with a dimpled smile firmly in place, “I love doing that.” He watched the two demons finally sort themselves out and begin weaving designs with each other in the air. Synyster reached up and ran his fingers down his wings and pulled his hand away soaked. “Is the water that cold?” he asked drying it off on his tunic. “Yes.” Came Jimmy’s petulant answer behind him. He chuckled and pressed close to Shadows’ chilled body.
“Vengeance, Christ, we need to go.” Shadows called. The two demons swooped down and landed gracefully. Both had dark circles under their eyes and Shadows frowned a little his humor fading, “Are you still tired?” he asked carefully looking them over. Vengeance shrugged, “Yesterday was stressful.” He said vaguely. Shadows growled and looked at Christ who looked almost twice as exhausted. “If you’ve only been here two weeks you shouldn’t be so tired.” He said. Synyster reached out and brushed Vengeance’s hair off his forehead while struggling to bring his diminished healing gift into action. It responded sluggishly and all he got from the brief contact was a bone deep tiredness radiating from the demon. “How long were you in Dimmur before coming to the earth plane?” he murmured. Vengeance shook his hand off, “Almost two days.” He mumbled. Shadows hissed and before he could ask Christ answered, “Three weeks and a half weeks.” He scooted a little further behind Vengeance and eyed the angels warily. Jimmy stared at the two demons, “That’s not even close to long enough is it?” he asked quietly. “No. Nowhere close.” Synyster answered grimly. Shadows pulled a small blade out of his tunic and made a shallow cut on his wrist and wordlessly held it out. Synyster stepped back to give them more room. Vengeance pulled Christ around and the demon hopped forward and lapped at the dark blood for a few seconds before stepping back and letting Vengeance do the same. “Can I help?” Jimmy whispered. Synyster fluffed his wings in agitation, “I don’t know. It can’t hurt but if this doesn’t help…I don’t know what we’re going to do.” He said helplessly. Jimmy scooted around him and held his wrist out next to Shadows’. Vengeance and Christ stared at him owlishly and then looked at Shadows. The angel shrugged and swiftly cut a red line across his wrist. It took a second for the sharp sting to register but when it did he winced. This time Vengeance stepped forward first cautiously. He ran his tongue over the hurt and startled Jimmy with its roughness. It wasn’t the sandpaper of a cat’s tongue but it was pretty close, “That kinda tickles.” He said quietly the second time his rough tongue ran over the wound. He stepped back after a third lick and Christ came forward a touch bolder. His quick licks had Jimmy stifling a giggle, “That definitely tickles.”
“We need to move quickly.” Shadows said once Christ stepped back. The two demons already looked healthier and watched Shadows with quick eyes while he spoke. “We should probably split up.” Vengeance said. Synyster growled but Shadows sighed, “He’s right. Portals are too easy to track so we’ll have to fly. A large group will be too easy to spot.” Synyster flicked his wings annoyed, “It’s not a good idea.” He grumbled. Shadows wrapped an arm around his waist, “I know, but it’s the best one we have.” He looked up at the sky and chewed his lip “Marrakech is probably our best option.” He said after a moment, “It’s close and there aren’t many Eldur or Dimmur spies there. We can spend the day and night there and fly again tomorrow.” Jimmy waved his hand, “That’s awesome for you guys, but I haven’t sprouted wings yet.” He said. “We’ll carry you.” Vengeance said rolling his eyes as if the answer were obvious. Jimmy stared at them and then looked at the angels. “They’re a lot stronger than humans Jimmy. Just because they’re small doesn’t mean they’re weak.” Shadows laughed. Jimmy nodded hesitantly. “Marrakech isn’t far, right?” The two angels laughed, “Wait an hour and then follow.” Shadows said following Synyster into the air.

Shadows’ POV
They were flying hard, he hadn’t given them much of a window but he didn’t want them separated too long. He was hoping they would get to Marrakech long enough before them to search the area for any Dimmur or Eldur spies. He almost wished he had sent Vengeance, Christ, and Jimmy first so he could have more time alone with Synyster. He shook his head, a foolish thought that could get the demons and human killed. He flapped hard to gain altitude so he could catch up with Synyster. The angel proved himself to be a swift in the air and while Shadows prided himself on speed and strength he had to work hard to keep up with him. He was pretty sure Synyster knew that too because he seemed to be putting his all into keeping two lengths ahead of him. He was almost high enough he could simply go into a gentle dive and pass him which would irritate him to no end.
Below him Synyster jerked and faltered in the air with a pained scream. A lance blew past Shadows and gracefully arched at its apex before plummeting to the earth below. Synyster was falling from the sky trying to get his injured wing to work. Another lance ripped through his side and scored his injured wing again and spun him around. His fall became a free dive toward the trees and earth. Shadows tucked his wings and dropped toward him unheeding of the other lances and arrows flying around them. He wouldn’t let Synyster hit the ground.
His fingers brushed Synyster’s arm when searing agony tore through his back. His right wing began to go numb and tickling wetness trickled down the feathers. His fingers closed around Synyster’s arm and he pulled the angel toward him. The trees were too close but he flared his wings anyway, any decrease in speed would probably save them from the worst of injuries. His right wing held for a second and buckled and his left wing soon followed once all the strain of stopping them fell on it. He wrapped his wings around Synyster and closed his eyes as leaves brushed his wings.
Agony woke him up and he choked on air as he tried to scream and breathe at the same time. His wings were broken, he could feel the sharp incessant pain of bones grinding together and one was being held in a very tight, very painful grip. He panted and nearly passed out again when his wing was pulled on. Another pained scream snapped his eyes open and for a second he forgot about the throbbing pain in his wings and lunged forward with a feral snarl. Synyster was a few feet away trying to protect his heavily bleeding side and wounded wing from a circle of angels and demons. A demon boldly reached out and twisted his healthy wing making him scream again while another darted in and swiped a claw across his bleeding side. He returned to his fellows contently licking his hand clean. Demons ate just about anything but angel blood was a special treat for them. Shadows dug into his energy reserves and a wall of flame erupted around Synyster incinerating the circled demons and badly scorching the angels nearby. His wing was twisted and he screeched in agony. “I forgot just how dangerous you are when angered.” Lucifer observed lightly skimming his foot over the remaining ashes of the demons. The burned angels retreated to the Dimmur healers. Shadows snarled at him and for a fleeting second Lucifer looked genuinely surprised at the bold action but covered it quickly with his usual amused mask. Sly grey eyes watched Shadows pant and struggle to get his wing free. “I told you Shadows how weakening a bond can be.” He admonished reaching down and picking Synyster up by the neck. The side of his head was bloody and his long hair stuck in it and when he bared his teeth and snarled he saw his teeth were stained red. Lucifer’s brow furrowed, “I expect such disrespect from Shadows.” He murmured. His fingers tightened and Synyster clawed desperately at his hand and arm wheezing and gasping. Shadows roared with rage and tried again to get up but the grip tightened and twisted his wing and he collapsed to the ground again struggling to breathe past the pain. Synyster’s healthier wing shot forward and the hard wing bone cracked Lucifer in the head. He dropped the angel with a surprised sound that quickly turned into a menacing growl. The surrounding demons bounded forward eagerly waiting for the signal. “I was going to kill you quickly but now you’ve angered me.” Synyster struggled to lift his head and dropped it again breathing thickly. “Kill him and get someone to fix Shadows’ wings, he’s going to need them.” He ordered before striding into a portal. Before the portal was closed a flurry of demons pounced on the injured angel.
Cold fury slipped through Shadows darkening and changing his vision. He no longer saw the thick trees and struggling undergrowth they faded to vague outlines against a charcoal background. He no longer saw individuals but the rapid flutter of their hearts and pulses like he was looking through an x-ray. He could hear the jackhammer of their hearts feel the excited pulse of the angel holding him through his shattered wing. The sound and feeling was driving him crazy, fueling his rage. He wanted them to stop and he was going to stop them all even if he had to rip the beating organ out and crush it.
