Chapter 2:
Vengeance walked down the long, winding passageway that lead to where the Prophet lived. He could feel his heart racing a million miles an hour and he was having trouble remembering how to breathe. He had absolutely no idea what to expect from this meeting and nor did he know why Lucifer was so excited to send him down here.
He took a deep breath as he raised his hand to knock on the large cast iron door, wincing slightly as the iron singed his hand. The door opened and a deep ominous voice called out, “enter!”
Vengeance walked into the large room just in time for the door to slam shut inches behind him. The room was almost completely dark but for the fireplace on the other side of the room. He walked warily towards the fire, seeing another sitting on one of two large, red chairs, their face concealed by the back of their chair.
He took his seat on the other large armchair and had to force himself not to scream. The other that stood there looked like they had been in a horrific accident. He had no visible nose whatsoever and the right side of their face was missing, looking as though someone had just ripped it out, leaving an empty crater instead.
“Stare all you like boy.” The prophet snarled. “It was your revolting father that did this to me.”
“I wasn’t saying anything.” Vengeance said defensively.
“I may be missing one eye but my other works better than ever.” He snarled; spit flying out from his mouth as his remaining eye turned a milky white colour.
“Why did he do this to you?” Vengeance asked slowly.
“I told him something he did not wish to hear.” The prophet answered in an uncaring way. “Now I tell him the things I know he will want to hear. I’m not dumb enough to make the same mistake again.”
Vengeance said nothing, knowing that his better judgment was to stay quiet and not to enrage the older man. An awkward silence passed where the two stared at each other with no intent of speaking.
“You have something to tell me?” Vengeance asked, perhaps a little too eagerly as this seemed to only enrage the prophet.
“Yes.” He snarled. “But you must promise me that you will not let him know. You must not let him know.”
“Okay.” Vengeance said quietly.
The prophet looked at warily for a moment before going into a trance like state, a bright red aura surrounded him as he shut his eyes for a minute before opening them, now revealing bright gold eyes. “Vengeance.” He said in a voice that sounded nothing like his own. “You WILL be the strongest demon ever in existence. Your strength is something unlike anyone has ever seen. Your red eyes are proof of your own strength. No other demon in existence has ever had these coloured eyes.”
He took a deep breath and the red aura grew even darker and wider. “Lucifer will give you a mission, one that is your choice whether you decide to take it or not. This decision will impact on everything you’ve ever known. You MUST do what you know is right not what others want of you.
“Your heart beats stronger and harder then ever expected. You WILL fall hard for him. Your heart yearns for him. You can change this future but you will not. You do not have the will to do it. You WILL betray your master. You are the first since Michael the Archangel himself that has the power to kill Lucifer. It is your decision to make but you WILL kill him. You just have the find the thirst for power that lays dormant in your veins, the throbbing sensation is yet to reveal itself.”
Vengeance stared in complete shock. He could barely believe it. How could he be so important? How could he be so strong to kill Lucifer? It didn’t make sense that everything was happening so quickly and he had absolutely no control over it.
The red aura surrounding the prophet suddenly extinguished and his eye changed colour back to the sickly milky white colour. The prophet took a few shaky breaths before he lunged his arm across and squeezing hard onto Vengeance’s, putting their faces in an uncomfortably close proximity. “Boy, you have to do it.” The prophet snarled; spit spraying across Vengeance’s face. “Michael will never return to finish the job. You are our only hope. Lucifer must die.” The prophet was pleading, pulling their faces closer together, Vengeance getting the prophet’s revolting stench of rotting fish coming from his mouth.
Vengeance stood up abruptly, causing the prophet to fall from the chair onto the hard concrete ground. “I never asked for all this fuckin’ responsibility!” He yelled, the prophet looking up at him curiously. “Why does it have to be me that kills him?”
The prophet climbed back to his feet and grabbed onto the Vengeance’s shoulders. “Your name has been written in my mind for as long as I’ve been in existence, boy.” He snarled. “Zachary James Baker born on the 11th of December, 1981 will give into Synyster Gates and become the most powerful demon in existence. He will be the one who kills Lucifer.”
“I don’t care!” Vengeance yelled. “I never asked for this fuckin’ responsibility and I don’t need it!”
“You will realize soon enough that what I’ve told you must happen. You just need to mature first!” The prophet snarled.
“Get off me!” Vengeance snarled and shoved the prophet away from him. He turned on his heel and headed across the dark room.
“Don’t be so ignorant, boy!” The prophet yelled after him, almost begging him. “You have to do what’s right, not what suits you!”
Vengeance ignored him and ripped open the door, stepping out into the brightly lit corridor and slammed the cast iron door behind him, ignoring the smell and feel of his skin singing. He stormed up the corridor, ignoring anyone that looked at him, his eyes keenly set in front of him.
He continued walking ever faster until he stormed through his Synyster’s bedroom door, finding the other man sitting on the bed looking at him curiously. He slammed the door hard behind him and only stopped when he saw Synyster watching him. “What?” He snarled.
“I could ask you the same fuckin’ thing.” Synyster snapped back. “What the fuck is the matter?”
“Nothing.” Vengeance snapped, taking a seat next to the other.
“Fine.” Synyster snapped again, standing up abruptly. “We have to go.”
“Now?” Vengeance whined, looking up and glaring at the other demon.
“Yes, fuckin’ now.” Synyster snarled, reaching down and yanking Vengeance by the neck on his shirt to his feet. “My father believes it’s time for you to take your training to the next level.”
“What do you mean?” Vengeance snapped, struggling out of the other’s grip and staring directly into the eyes that haunted him for so long.
“It’s time to reprise our roles as Brian and Zack.” Synyster answered. “We’re going to the surface.”
