Disclaimer: All I own are the plot and my OC's. Seriously, folks, I'm broke. Never met these guys; just a fluke dream I had and decided to expand on as cheap therapy. Please remember this is a work of fiction, as such, I don't get anything out of this. |
Chapter 1
That early December night, I borrowed my mothers big Chevy pickup, as my old Explorer was in the shop waiting for a new motor. I pulled up into the Civic Center parking lot in my borrowed truck and glanced at the time. We had drove separately and we were WAY early, but KiKi wanted to be here now. My 17 year old niece running the show kinda worried me.
She had demanded that I cut my hair, which didn't bother me. I usually have it crew cut but can't always find the time to cut it when I need it. She also insisted that I spike my hair, which was how I generally wore it anyway. However, as I cut my hair and showered, earlier that night, she had picked out my clothes; a pair of bootcut jeans that hugged my rear, a soft, dark, heather gray tshirt with a deep V neck that clung to my few remaining curves, and a fitted gray and black button down with the sleeves rolled up to my biceps. To complete my get-up, she had chosen my best black bra that made my girls look amazing, a pair of black, lacy boyshorts, and my knee high, hand knitted, black socks, with my black, Ariat Fat Baby boots.
They climbed into the truck, and sat there. As we waited, Lynn looked into the back seat and yelled with enthusiasm, "Whats our goal tonite?"
Without missing a beat, KiKi answered with just as much enthusiasm, "Getting Nana laid!"
I buried my face in my hands and groaned. This was gonna be a disaster and I would catch all 9 kinds of hell if I didn't walk out of here with a date. Not that I wanted one, but my niece would pester me otherwise.
As I looked sadly out the window, the snow began to gently fall, slowly, and I wondered what in the holy fuck possessed me to agree to this. Was I happy with my life at the moment, no. But, there was no one who had taken the chance to be in it with me. I will admit that after four years alone, even just sitting here waiting for the show was awkward.
I cracked my window and lit a cigarette. As I took a drag, there was a tapping on the window. I rolled it down, and there were two of the band members, CC and Ashley.
"Can I borrow your lighter," CC asked. "Mine just ran out."
"Sure," I replied as I handed my Bic out of the window.
After lighting his smoke, and handing my lighter back, CC shivered.
"Can tell you ain't from around here," I smiled, shyly.
Ashley chuckled and replied, "He ain't. This is nice in comparison."
"Comparison to what," CC shrieked.
"It could be 20 below," I laughed.
CC just shook his head.
"Are you gonna be inside for the show," Purdy asked.
"Yep. My niece dragged me along with her," I answered.
"Well," he smiled, "If I see ya, I'll wave," he said as he smiled and pulled CC toward the door.
As they walked toward the door, through the gently falling snow, I heard CC say, "Dude, she was nice. Pretty, too."
I couldn't hide the blush. It had been forever since I had been called pretty, so I was sure he meant KiKi. I mean, even when I was her age, I just faded into the background. It's why I got lucky with Clark, he was no raving beauty either.
Ashley's POV
As I dragged CC back inside, He started in about that lady in the truck.
"God, she was pretty. And that truck! If I was SINGLE, I would date her...just for the truck."
Finally, I had heard enough. "Would you stop. I am not looking. I have sworn off of women for a little bit. I gave them up for Lent."
Jake was standing, waiting for us, as we walked up. He laughed, "Well then, Ash, you are doing a terrible job of it," then started humming '40 Boys in 40 Nights'.
Then Jinxx heard and started mumbling the lyrics, but changing it to 'girls'. Which led Andy to sing it; loud and proud.
Rolling my eyes, I turned and walked into the dressing room without a word, wondering if it was even worth it to chance it again. My girl and I had split up the better part of a year ago and I did have a girl in every town since. But then I thought about the lady in the truck. She had some pretty green eyes. And a sweet set of dimples.
I forced her out of my mind as I got ready for the show that night. In truth, she was the farthest thing from my mind until just before the last song when her niece, I am guessing, dragged her up to the front of the crowd.
I waved.
Shyly, she waved back as she blushed a little, her dimples peeking out.
I brushed it off. The crowd was FULL of hotties tonight.
After the show, we did our normal autograph signing and pics. The Lady and her niece were the last in line.
She asked if we had heard the latest weather report.
Andy looked at her, "No. Whats up?"
"Y'all may end up stuck for a few days. The Weather Service says that it is a blizzard and IDOT has closed 74 and 80 until the storm lets up."
We all looked at her. Then they all looked at me.
"AW HELL NAW!! I AM NOT Driving that FUCKING hog on ice," I yelled, pointing at the bus, "ALL the way to the FUCKIN' Quad Cities!"
Andy and Jake deflated a little.
Turning to her, I said, "We don't have rooms for more than tonight. Can we stay with you?"
Her niece piped up, "Her name is Leigh Burdett, and you can,"
Leigh's jaw dropped as she turned to her niece, "KiKi! Not cool, missy!"
KiKi must have turned on a pout, because in a moment, Leigh deflated in defeat. "Alright. Keep me posted."
All the way to the truck, I could hear her growling at KiKi. I caught a small snippet of their conversation.
"That was extremely rude, young lady. Not to mention that you dragged me up here...Hang on," she said as she dug in the pocket of her black leather walking coat for her phone.
"Yeah, Ma...No, I am on my way...Yes, Ma. See ya as soon as I get there."
Turning to me, she said, "You have til I dig Lynn out to either extend your stay or grab your bags, because I may not be able to come up tomorrow."
As she said that, Andy called the Pierre, where we were staying. After explaining to them what was going on, they said they could extend for four of us, but my room had already been booked. I growled and cussed under my breath. Being the only single one sucked sometimes.
Leigh walked back up to us, "And??"
"Looks like it is just me. Let me grab my bag."
