=======
Just as Carrie was wrapping her arms around Kelly's neck, they heard a noise that made them both turn around.
They walked to the stern to see what it was and saw their captain tying his kayak and jumping on board.
"Hello ladies," Joe spoke up with a smile.
"Hey," Kelly greeted him. "We thought you just rowed back to shore or something."
He laughed. "No, part of the job is knowing when to make yourself scarce, especially since you were working. Besides, I was due for a longer challenge. I hope everything is alright?"
Carrie smiled. "Yes, thank you."
"Very well. I trust you ladies will tell me when it's time to head back?"
Carrie glanced at Kelly who nodded knowingly. "Well, I believe we are ready to go back, right?"
"Yes," Kelly chimed in. "I wanna be back before they get in."
"Very well," Joe nodded. "Back it is."
The ride back was a quiet and peaceful one. The girls sat side by side, talking in whispers as Joe sat in his chair guiding the yacht. He would occasionally look their way and smile as he whistled “Botany Bay.”
After about an hour, they were safely on the dock, and waved goodbye as they found the limo still waiting for them.
"I can't believe you sprung for all this, Ms. I-Still-Drive-The-Same-Car-Cause-I-Don’t-Want-To-Spend-The-Money,” Kelly teased her as they walked towards the limo, with their driver holding the door open for them.
"Hey, now," Carrie whined. "I'm allowed to splurge every once in a while. Besides, I was going for romantic."
"Oh, you were," Kelly whispered, making Carrie blush as they reached the limo.
"Thank you," Carrie smiled at him with a slight nod as Kelly went in first.
========
Kelly bounced in her seat as they were getting closer to the hotel. Carrie laughed at the excitement bubbling from the Texan. It still amazed her how Kelly could be so serious and childlike within seconds. The blonde placed a hand on Kelly’s thigh to get her to stop.
“What’s up,” Kelly asked turning to face her. She was still enjoying the fact that they’d been able to have a day to themselves.
“Not a thing. You are just really hyper right now,” she winked.
“Oh,” she reached for the hand resting on her thigh, giving her goose bumps, and brought it up to her lips for a gentle kiss. “Yeah. I just had so much fun today…and,” she lowered her voice. “I can’t wait to take you back to my room.”
Carrie chuckled. “Seriously?”
“What,” Kelly shrugged innocently. “I figured we’d go for a road trip. You know, Texas…Oklahoma.”
Carrie’s eyes grew wide as she swallowed hard. “Well, I do like the way you think, but something tells me that’s not gonna happen soon,” she turned serious as she looked out the window and motioned for Kelly to look. They had arrived at the hotel to see Jason followed by two girls Carrie assumed to be Jill and Kate.
“Oh,” Kelly sounded slightly bummed. “Ok, so not right now…but you get a rain check.”
“Oh, I better!” Carrie leaned quickly for a peck as their driver had stepped out of the limo to open the door for them.
==========
“So, what’s going on,” the Texan snuck behind Jill attempting to steal her sunglasses from her head.
“Hey,” the New Englander whined. “I’ve had these for a week,” she defended as she turned around and gave Kelly a hug.
“It must be a record,” Kate chimed in as she also hugged Kelly.
“So, how was the flight?” the Texan asked, stepping back from their hug.
“Long,” Jill answered as she looked behind Kelly. “So, is that her?”
Kelly turned to Carrie, her face away from Jill and Kate as she smiled. “Yeah. Care?”
The blonde stepped forward with a slight step. “Hi, I’m Carrie,” she did a quick wave, mentally slapping herself as she thought she must have looked like a dork. She always felt awkward meeting new people, especially when in a small group.
“Well, hi. I’m Kate, and this is Jill,” the taller girl motioned to the girl next to her.
“Nice to meet y’all,” she smiled.
Jason walked behind the girls. “You’re all set. So, here ya go,” he handed Jill and Kate their keys. “If you’ll excuse me,” he started walking away.
“And where are you going?” his sister asked.
“I figured y’all are gonna do the girly thing, so I’m going to meet the guys after my call with Narvel.”
“Narvel,” Kelly asked. “Everything alright?”
“Oh, yeah,” he replied. “I think we’re just planning the next stages for the fall. You know, everything else that goes into getting your album ready. Including your fave…the shoots.”
Kelly’s face fell. “Oh, yay,” she added sarcastically, as all the girls laughed.
“It won’t be bad,” Carrie tried to reassure her with a nudge. “I’m sure you’ll look hot.”
“Yeah, Kel,” Kate teased as she and Jill shared a smile.
“Ugh,” the Texan cringed. “Whatever! So, anyway. Have fun, Jay. And keep me posted.”
He nodded. “Don’t worry. I will.”
Carrie looked at him. He seemed nice enough, but she wasn’t sure if he was trying to avoid her. After all, it was the first time they had been standing face to face since he’s talked to Kelly about the truth of their relationship. “So, are you sure you don’t want to hang out with us?” She asked hopefully. “I mean, I’m not huge on the girl talk myself. Give me some football or a movie or something.”
Jason laughed and nodded appreciatively. “Ha. I like you. Kell,” he turned to his sister.
“Yeah,” she asked slightly confused.
“She’s cool,” he replied, placing an arm around her shoulder. “And yeah,” he faced Carrie. “We’ll definitely have to go to a game or something.”
“Sure thing,” Carrie relaxed as she looked at Jason. Maybe this wouldn’t turn out to be as awkward as she thought it would be. He stepped back as he waved them off and walked to the bar across the lobby.
“Yeah,” Jill piped up, struggling with her suitcase as they had started to walk towards the elevators. “Just not a Cowboys game, right?”
“Um,” Carrie bit her lip, not sure of what to say.
“Geez, Jill,” Kate whined embarrassed. “Well, I guess you’re part of the group now, huh?” she smiled apologetically at the blonde.
Kelly and Jill nodded. “Definitely,” they gave each other a high five.
Carrie smiled at Jill as she laughed. “Awesome.”
======
“Kate,” Jill followed close behind her. “Which one is it?”
“Uh, this one,” she replied as she compared the envelope holding her key to the room number.
“Thank god,” Jill answered. “I need a shower.”
“Yeah, you do,” Carrie added, hoping to fit in. She and Kelly trailed behind on purpose as their hands would accidentally graze each other’s as they walked.
“Oooh,” Kelly reached up and gave the blonde a high five. “Looks like she got you for the last time,” she pointed at Jill.
Carrie giggled nervously as Kate opened the door and let them all into the room. Jill and Carrie made eye contact and the blonde relaxed when Jill smiled. “That was good,” Jill added as she tossed her jacket onto a chair.
“So,” Kelly spoke up. “Um, I think we’re gonna let you guys get settled and stuff. Y’all can come knock on my door when you’re done.”
“Okay, which is….” Kate gestured with her hand.
“Duh, sorry,” Kelly shook her head. “We are all on the same floor. Take a left and my room is at the end of the hall.”
“Oh, ok. Well,” Jill went through her bag looking for her toiletries. “I’m hitting the showers and I’ll see y’all in a bit.”
“How come you get to shower first,” Kate asked indignantly.
“Cause you didn’t call it,” Jill smirked. “Plus, I’m quicker than you anyway.”
“Fine,” Kate pouted, sitting on the bed closer to the door, knowing that was Jill’s preferred one. “I’ll just take a nap or something.”
“Are they always like this,” Carrie turned to Kelly.
The Texan laughed. “Oh, yeah. They’re like sisters. I mean, they get along, but they crack me up sometimes.”
“Ah… So,” she nodded towards the door.
Kelly immediately caught on to what Carrie was hinting. “Right. Well, we’re gonna leave y’all for now, but we’ll see y’all in a while.”
“Yeah,” Carrie started walking towards the door as Kelly followed closed behind.
======
Carrie sighed at the feeling of Kelly’s lips against her neck. It drove her crazy how easy it was for Kelly to find the spot that always sent shivers down her back. Her hands tangled in the Texan’s hair, as she moved them up from her neck.
Kelly continued kissing the side of her neck as her hands played with the claps of Carrie’s bra, their shirts long discarded. She was determined to make the girl below her squirm.
Just as Carrie continued to get lost in the feeling of Kelly above her, there was a pounding on the door.
“Alright, break it up in there,” were the muffled words followed by giggles.
The blonde looked up as Kelly groaned in frustration. “Dammit,” she whispered.
“Yeah,” Carrie’s head fell backwards as she tried to catch her breath. “Great timing.”
“Hold on,” Kelly yelled, stalling as they both got up and searched for their shirts. Carrie quickly found them and threw Kelly hers by accident. Both girls took the shirts they were holding and slipped them on without noticing the mistake.
Carrie gestured as she walked into the bathroom and Kelly made her way to the door. “What’s up?” She greeted them.
“That took a while,” Jill smirked.
“Sorry, I was kinda zoning out there for a sec,” she gestured to her unmade bed. She sighed in relief. This was one time she was thankful that she never made the bed.
“Where’s Carrie,” Kate asked as she noticed she was missing.
“Uh,” Kelly wasn’t sure of what her answer should be. “You know, I’m not sure, she was here before I fell dozed off,” she tried to cover up just as the bathroom door opened and out came the blonde.
“Hey,” she answered walking past them and sitting on the couch next to Kelly’s bed.
“So…” Kelly attempted to diffuse the slight awkwardness in the room. “What do y’all wanna do tonight?”
“I’m pretty tired,” Kate answered, looking towards Jill. “I vote for room service and board games. Yes, lame, but what do you think?”
“I agree,” Jill shrugged. “I’m up for lame. What about y’all?” Carrie and Kelly looked at each other and nodded in agreement.
“Good,” Kelly smiled. “Well, the room service menu is on the table so, let’s figure out what we want.”
“Kel,” Carrie spoke up gently.
The Texan walked to the table and handed her a smaller menu. “Not a problem. I asked them for a vegan menu. So, here you go,” she handed it to the blonde, who beamed at the gesture.
“Oh,” Jill smiled. “You’re a vegan, huh?”
“Um, yeah. Why,” Carrie answered, unsure of what the reaction would be. She was used to people thinking she was weird because she didn’t like eating meat.
“No reason, but it does explain why someone around here was insisting that tofu isn’t that bad.”
Kelly blushed at the suggestion. “Well, whatever. Y’all liked it too, right?”
Jill chucked. “Actually, yeah. It’s not bad….By the way, there’s something that needs to be explained.”
“Uh, what’s that?” Kelly asked thumbing through the menu.
“How come you’re wearing Carrie’s shirt?” Kelly quickly glanced down before she and Carrie exchanged a look.
“Yeah,” Kate chimed in. “And Carrie is wearing yours?”
Both Carrie and Kelly turned beet red. There was really no denying what had been going on. Both mentally slapped themselves thinking how they could’ve been so careless and not realized that they were wearing each others’
shirts.
“Uh…” Kelly stammered.
Carrie sighed and nodded. “Well, go ahead…you get to answer that one,” she nodded knowingly.
Kelly smiled as she felt reassurance from Carrie. “Alright, you caught me. Well, us. Carrie and I are, um, really good friends,” she offered with a huge grin.
“Smooth, babe, real smooth,” Carrie teased her.
“Yeah, Kel, come on,” Jill rolled her eyes. “Kate and I have known each other for years, and we sure aren’t that close!” The four girls laughed at the joke.
“Ok,” Kelly turned slightly serious. Hearing her friends joke and tease her about the situation made her relax. “Now that y’all are cracking jokes about this,” she walked to stand next to Carrie. “She’s my girlfriend.”
“Ha,” Jill crowed, as she pumped her fist, while Kate made a face.
“Dammit,” Kate whined as she reached into her pocket and handed Jill a twenty dollar bill.
“What the hell,” Kelly shook her head. “Y’all made a bet?”
Jill smirked. “Yup. Well, come on. As much as you’ve been talking about the girl and how much fun y’all have together and stuff. It was pretty obvious, well, to some of us.”
“Whatever,” Kate rolled her eyes. “You just got lucky!”
“Um, no. That wasn’t me,” she looked pointedly at the girls in front of her.
“Oh, ew,” Kate complained. “Well, ok, not ew, but you know. Crap, you know what I mean!”
Carrie laughed as she raised a hand. “Yeah, we get it…sorry you lost.”
“You should be,” Jill added. “You stole her girl.”
Carrie’s eyes grew wide as she looked between Kate and Kelly. “Uh, what?”
The Texan shook her head dismissively. “Don’t listen to her. She’s always thinking she’s funny, but that’s not true.”
The blonde turned to Kate who was smiling and nodding in agreement with Kelly. “Oh.”
“Anyway,” Kelly looked for a change of subject. “Has anyone seen Ash?”
“Oh, she texted me earlier,” Kate reached into her pocket for her cell phone to read the message. “She said she was meeting some guy named Logan for a coffee?”
“Ah,” Kelly smiled. “Yeah, we met him last night at the club. I thought she didn’t like him, but maybe the accent was too much to resist for her.”
Carrie shivered as she rubbed her arms. Kelly noticed and asked, “Are you ok?”
“Yeah,” the blonde answered. “Just a little bit cold. I think I’ll go get a hoodie from my room.”
“No need,” Kelly wrapped her arms around her into a protective hug. “Hold on a sec,” she pulled back as she dug though her bag and handed her one of her Ed Hardy’s.
“Thanks,” the blonde smiled appreciatively.
Both Jill and Kate looked at each other and took the scene in front of them. They weren’t used to seeing Kelly acting like this. Well, they also weren’t used to Kelly having someone.
“Y’all are not gonna be the sickeningly cute couple, are ya,” Kate teased.
“What. No, never,” Kelly defended.
“Good.”
“Ok,” Carrie waved the menu in her hand. “What do y’all want? ‘Cause I’m starving!”
