"Okay, coffee is ready ..."
Kai said quietly as he brought a tray with a coffee pot and six mugs back to the lounge area. It was now almost half past eleven and the group had surprisingly already been awake for an hour. The furniture was still askew around the room and futon beds still littered the floor while Aoi, Ai, Megumi, Kikyo and Uruha just sat on them and talked ... really not bothering to use the sofas. Kai set the tray down in the middle of the triangle of futons and sat on his knees while he began to pour cup after cup of coffee. In turn handing them around to everyone, and then shifted back to sit beside Megumi. They were all very grateful to Kai for making coffee because they all needed it ... and none of them were in the mood for food so coffee was the next best thing after drinking most of the night.
No-one had even bothered to get changed yet, so you can imagine the sight - Megumi's hair managed to stay neat in it's ponytail, same as Kikyo, except Ai's hair looked like it had been styled like Reita's. Kai's hair had become rather wavy, and therefore was teased that he looked like Megumi now, seeing it was her choice of hair styling. Uruha didn't look too bad; it was just slightly matted on the ends. And then poor Aoi won the bed-head award - it just looked like someone had rubbed a balloon against his head all night ... so yes, it was rather frizzy all over the place. Uruha also ended up with a shadow around his eyes from not properly removing his make-up. But over all they all seemed to sleep well; the girls were not looking forward to the drive home ... simply because they'd miss the guys.
"So what will you be doing once you all go home?"
Kai asking, referring to the girls as he looked around at each of them. Ai just shrugged.
"Don't know, really. Aside from having a good rest after last night we're all back at work this week. Back to a dead-end store ... except Kira, she has her modelling thing on the side".
"It has been quiet but I'm sure it'll pick up again now that the holidays are almost over".
Megumi said optimistically, but not with very much enthusiasm. Megumi, Kira and Ai weren't keen on working at the supermarket ... but it paid, so they tried not to complain too much. On the other hand, there was Mika and Kikyo ...
"I can't wait to go back to work and see the kids, I miss them. I can imagine what it will be like on the first day back - they'll be so excited to talk about what they did all holiday. I don't think Mika, the other carers and I will get much teaching done".
Ai and Megumi smiled at Kikyo when she talked about the children - they knew how much Mika and Kikyo loved their job; working with children was never boring, both of them would always say. Kai smiled in turn after the girls explained what they'd be doing.
"Well it seems like you'll be spending the rest of the week just getting back into the flow again".
"Pretty much, same as every new start to the year. But I think this New Year is going to be that little bit more fun since we met you guys".
Megumi said, as she held up her finger and thumb about an inch apart.
"Only a little bit?"
Aoi teased before downing the last of his coffee. Ai softly nudged Aoi's shoulder.
"Hey, be grateful! If we hadn't been on the front row and Ruki and Mika hadn't gone goo-goo eyes over each other then we wouldn't be here".
The group laughed, excluding Aoi and Ai were just stuck their tongues at each other and then turned to look in another direction. Uruha was next to speak as he leaned forward to set his cup on the tray.
"Well let's just call it lucky. I must admit I was the most sceptical one about inviting all of you back to the after party that night, but Ruki was determined not to listen to us. We were just worried that something would get out and fans would be jealous that it wasn't them".
"Of course something did happen as a result but it can't be helped. We can't go around being secretive to fans because they'd get jealous. It's not like we have to ask for their permission to start seeing a girl that isn't them. That's just selfish".
Aoi said flatly, clearly irritated that some fans could be so jealous. Kai laughed nervously and waved at Aoi.
"Ne, ne, don't worry so much. These sorts of things come with being famous, so you can't blame the fans. If we as a group weren't famous then they'd just find another band to fall in love with".
Kikyo, Megumi, Ai and Uruha laughed quietly to themselves as Kai was trying to play mother to Aoi - the grumpy guitarist certainly needed more sleep. Kai smiled around at the girls apologetically and Uruha waved a hand as if to say 'don't go there'.
"Just ignore him, he hasn't slept long enough. Anyway, why don't we start cleaning up this room ... then if anyone would like to have a shower go right ahead".
Everyone else then set his or her cup back onto the tray, while once again Kai was the one to take the tray back to the kitchen. That left Megumi, Kikyo and Ai to start gathering the blankets and pillows into neat folded piles. Uruha and Aoi were the ones to start rolling up the futons, ready to be stored back in Uruha's wardrobe again. All the while the girls were giggling as they helped each other fold up the blankets; Ai and Kikyo were folding while Megumi piled up the pillows. Kai came back then, ready to help with the bedding, but found it was pretty much done already. So in the end he helped Uruha and Aoi to put away the futons, blankets and pillows ... and yes, that meant the girls obliged to putting the sofas and coffee table back where they were. As they say, many hands made light work.
--
"Okay, I'm done!"
Kikyo announced as she wandered out of Uruha's room, adjusting her winter jacket as she went. She had just been the second and last person to use Uruha's bathroom, after Megumi. Ai was intending to have her shower in the evening, where as Uruha, Kai and Aoi planned to wash up after the girls left. It was already time for them to think about heading home, though they'd all prefer to stay a bit longer. It was now getting on to half past one in the afternoon and the girls didn't want to overstay their welcome ... especially when the guys had to be back at work the next morning. That afternoon was their last chance to rest after all. Like the previous day Uruha, Aoi and Kai were seated on one sofa and Megumi and Ai were on the other. The guys had made an effort to at least change into pants and t-shirts but the girls all looked like they'd just arrived from last night - they were once again in their clothes from the night before.
"I'll go and get our bags".
Ai offered as she got up to do just that, leaving Kikyo to take her seat opposite Uruha.
"Thanks so much again for coming, it was a lot of fun. We'll have to do it again another time".
"What about for someone's birthday? The next New Years Eve won't be for a while, we can't wait that long!"
Kikyo said sarcastically, earning a giggle from Megumi. Kai and Aoi smiled at each other.
"Sounds good, we'll have to plan on that one ..."
Just then Ai came back with one bag on her back and then one in each hand ... very much resembling a bag rack. It was them that a kind of melancholy feeling filled the room when they saw Ai put the bags down at the end of the coffee table ... and everyone knew it was now time for the girls to go home. The guys stood up at the same time and then Megumi and Kikyo too stood up with a bit of hesitation. Megumi smiled.
"I guess we have to get going then. It's going to be kinda quiet not seeing or talking to you for a while".
The guys looked around to each other and then Uruha smiled
"Well ... you have our cell phone numbers so ... don't be afraid to leave a message or call sometime. Although we can't guarantee we'll answer straight away, but it'll be nice to at least hear your voices until we get our lives back".
The girls laughed - they knew he only meant in terms of workload. Now Megumi and Kikyo moved to retrieve their bags when Ai took up hers. Uruha, Aoi and Kai walked over to the front door, where Uruha took his trench coat, Aoi took his leather jacket and Kai took his black dinner jacket - they were going to see the girls off and even though it was a sunny day the air was still cold. When the girls joined them Uruha opened his front door and stepped aside so everyone could leave before he did. Kai and Aoi went first, followed by Ai and Megumi, but as Kikyo was going through Uruha briefly touched her arm and they smiled knowingly at each other - their relationship was remaining secret for now. The elevator ride down to the ground level remained quiet, the silence only breaking when the group walked out into the car park.
"Wow, it's a nice day. At least we have a sunny start to the year".
Ai said as the girls looked up at the sky. It was a bright blue with only thin wisps of cloud and the sun was reflecting off the snow, making it even brighter outside. Aoi and Uruha silently cursed at not remembering to bring their sunglasses but Kai just smiled as Kikyo opened the back door to her car and began to pile the bags onto the seat.
"Yes, it's good so far. But you can bet it'll get even colder before Winter is over. Hopefully the weather doesn't cause in problems for us during the second part of our Tour".
"I wouldn't think so, it'll be March. I'd think the weather would start warming up again by at least the end of February. Cheer up!"
Megumi reassured Kai with a smile and then held out her arms for a cuddle - Kai laughed at her response before giving her the cuddle she offered. Ai also got a little cuddle from Aoi and they smiled at each other before she followed Megumi to get in the car - Ai was once again in the front while Megumi took the back seat with the bags. Kikyo smiled warmly at Uruha.
"Again thanks for having us. You guys can now have a good rest for the remainder of the day, and good luck with the new album, I'm sure it'll be great!"
"Yeah for sure, but I guess we'll find out soon enough, ne? Gotta get the release of 'Hyena' out of the way first. Anyway, take care going home. And don't forget to keep in touch".
Kikyo laughed and then nodded as she now got her cuddle from Uruha. Hating to let go, she smiled one last time at the guys before walking around to the driver's side, waving before getting in. Kai and Uruha waved while Aoi just simply help up a peace sign; Megumi and Ai waved while Kikyo turned the ignition. She had to rev the engine a couple of times to heat up the motor - being out in the weather all night had really cooled the engine down. Finally, after sitting for a moment, Kikyo decided the car was warmed up enough and now reached across Ai to wave herself. As the car slowly backed out of the car park, the guys stayed and watched the girls leaving, again waving as the car now drove off in the direction of the Mejiro-dori main road. When the guys finally decided to go back inside, Aoi froze when he noticed his bike ... he'd forgotten to cover it with its special protective drape.
"Aww man, would you look at that! Completely covered in fuckin snow! Shit!"
Kai and Uruha looked at each other, but then had to look away from each other in case they started laughing - Aoi's reaction was priceless. Uruha pat Aoi's shoulder out of pity and guided his bewildered fellow guitarist back into the apartment building. Kai followed close behind, glancing once more at the white shape that stood on the corner of the car park. He smirked to himself as he disappeared back through the main door after his band mates - Aoi was certainly going to have fun cleaning that off later.
* * *
Reita came shuffling out of his bedroom, wearing a clean pair of black jeans, a white long sleeve shirt and a towel draped over his head - he'd just been in to have his shower. Kira was sitting on the sofa waiting for him, legs up and crossed underneath her while she watched television. She was aimlessly flicking through channels because there was not much on that day - now she knew the value in working during the day ... it meant she didn't have to endure mindless TV programs. Kira looked up when Reita came to stand beside her, firmly rubbing the towel over his head to dry his hair. In pulling the towel off, Kira couldn't help but make a little snorting sound - his hair was all matted and frizzy. Reita looked at Kira and then pulled something from his pocket to hold out to her - it was a comb.
"Alright, smartass, you can comb the tangles out now".
Kira snatched the comb from him with a smile and shifted over a bit so he could sit down. Once he was settled and leaning forward onto his knees, Kira began to slowly drag the comb through his hair - it was a surprisingly dark yellow when wet. After a little time, and the tangles had been clearly combed out a while ago, Reita glanced slightly sideways at Kira.
"Um ... are you enjoying that?"
Kira blinked and then laughed nervously.
"Oh sorry, I didn't mean to keep going, it was just nice. I never expected you to let me brush your hair".
"Okay, firstly, it's a comb not a brush. And secondly, it's your punishment for laughing at my hair".
Kira stuck your tongue out at him as Reita then turned to snatch the comb back from her, just to briefly comb his fringe into place. Then, being lazy and not wanting to get up again, Reita just threw the comb onto his coffee table and wrapped the towel around his neck. The two sat in silence watching the TV for a while just holding hands until Reita looked at her.
"Have you packed all of your things up?"
"Yeah ... I did everything while you were in the shower. Why, do you want to get rid of me already?"
Kira smirked at him when she said the last part and Reita laughed, looking back at the TV again.
"Hey, don't make me the bad guy".
Kira then clung onto Reita's arm tightly with both arms and rested her head on his shoulder - he smelled so clean. Not to say that he was dirty before, but to her the clean smell was a nice smell. Reita looked down at her, even though she couldn't see him - he knew she was sad. He then reached over to give her arm a reassuring squeeze.
"Don't you start being depressed on me, it doesn't suit you. Look, you'll be able to see us at some live houses right?"
"Hmm I guess, if there are some places close by ..."
"Well ... there you go. We won't be far away. We have each other's number, so ... relax. Come on, I'm not used to this sappy sadness stuff ... at least not for a long time".
Kira giggled and instantly perked up - she felt a lot better.
"Alright, I'll behave. I'd better go and get my bag then ..."
As Kira stood up and walked past him to get to the bedroom, Reita softly pat her backside, yet again his way of telling her everything would be fine. Kira smiled back at him and disappeared through the doorway and Reita went back to staring blankly at the TV ... he just really wasn't into the daytime drama show that was on. Soon enough Kira came back with her bag in one hand and jacket in the other - forgot to mention that her attire was simply what she wore when first arrived at Reita's apartment. She was only staying the one night so Kira didn't think it necessary to bring more than just clean underwear and toiletries. She set the bag down at the end of the sofa so she could put the jacket on.
"Your all set? Do you need me to do anything for you?"
"Hmm no, I've got everything ... but I wouldn't mind stowing you in my bag and taking you home".
Kira smiled innocently at him and Reita smiled, shaking his head slightly.
"Then you would have to explain why I wouldn't be at work tomorrow".
Kira pouted at him for bursting her bubble - he's so mean, she thought. Then Reita stood up and dropped the towel onto his coffee table, to then retrieve his keys, wallet and cell phone.
"Come on, I'll walk down with you. I need to go to the store anyway, I'm almost out of smokes".
"I object!"
Kira spat, pointing at him sharply, much like a child would react to something a parent just said. Reita blinked at her until he realised why she'd said it, which he then faked a glare.
"Are you threatening me, Miss?"
Kira shrugged and again smiled innocently.
"Just trying different ways to stop you from smoking".
"Oh yeah? Well practice on Ruki first; he's a seasoned pro at quitting. He's done it more times that anyone I've ever met. Maybe Mika will finally get through to him ..."
Kira laughed and smiled caringly - her and the other girls had heard from some rumours that dear Ruki had tried to quit several times ... and was still unsuccessful. As Reita said, maybe Mika could do something, because she wasn't a fan of smokers ... but could tolerate it as long as none of the smoke lingered around her. Finally Kira hoisted up her bag and headed for the front door, Reita just in front of her. He grabbed his leather jacket from its hook and put it on while pushing his feet into heavy looking black boots, and Kira put on her boots as well. Reita already had the door open when Kira was done and she gave him a sweet kiss as she walked through, which resulted in a silly little smile from him. And after only two flights of stairs, Kira and Reita walked out to car park and into bright sunlight.
"Looks like you'll have a pretty safe drive home if the sun's out".
"Yeah, and I don't have to go far at least. And I know the way now, so it'll be less time".
Kira agreed while unlocking the front passenger of her SUV and throwing her bag onto the seat, then slamming the door again. Reita followed Kira around to the drivers side door, and just as she unlocked and went to open it, a hand suddenly appear at her side to push the door closed again. When she turned around to ask what he was doing, she suddenly found herself enveloped in those strong arms and into a deep kiss. Much as he'd tried to be tough about Kira leaving ... well now it was getting to him, and he wanted to show Kira just how much he'd miss her for two months. Kira trembled under the strength he had over her as she gripped at the sleeves of his jacket tightly, a little whimper came from her throat when she felt his tongue brush over hers. When Reita finally pulled back Kira stared at him and swallowed hard.
"That's to say thank you for staying, and also that I'm going to miss you".
Kira blushed and smiled, looking down slightly.
"Your welcome ... and I'll miss you too".
Kira looked up at him again and they exchanged another sweet kiss ... until Kira giggled.
"So much for not liking sappy sadness".
"Oh shut the hell up and get out of here".
Reita laughed and he held Kira away from the car so he could reach behind to open her door. Kira gave him one last kiss and got in, quickly turning on the ignition to get the heater going - even though it was sunny the inside of the car was still cold. Reita shut her door and she wound down the window so he could lean his arms on the edge to chat before she left.
"So your back at work this week? Both the store and modelling?"
"The store yes, with Megumi and Ai, but my modelling doesn't start again until after the Coming of Age festival, so the week of the 15th".
Reita nodded in understanding - he wished he didn't have to go back to work until after the festival.
"Well ... I'd better let you go before you never get home. Say hello to the other girls for me when you see them. And stay out of trouble, I don't want to hear about any cat fights you've had with our fans".
He pointed sternly at Kira to make a point but Kira just smiled and gripped his hand, bringing it up to her mouth so she could kiss the tip of his finger.
"Don't worry, we're big girls. We can look after ourselves and each other if that happens".
Reita was still concerned but didn't push the subject - he didn't want to give Kira the impression he didn't trust or believe her. He leaned in the window to quickly kiss her goodbye and stepped back to allow Kira to reverse out of the car park. Once out on the road, Kira beeped her horn a couple of times and waved, then slowly taking off when Reita returned the wave. He waited and watched until she was down the road and out of sight, heading in the direction of the Highway. He just kept watching, wishfully hoping that she'd come back but after a couple of minutes he realised he should actually get to the shop, before anyone realised who he was. Then at a quick pace, seeing the shop was three blocks away, he walked off down the street in the opposite direction Kira had gone. A few meters into his walk Reita glanced back down the street Kira had gone - get a hold of yourself will you, he thought, and shoved his hands into his pockets as he turned back to watch where he was going.
* * *
Mika and Ruki hadn't stayed outside for very long ... because the glare of the bright sky was really getting to Ruki, even though his sunglasses covered his eyes completely. In the end Mika, Ruki and Mitsu went back inside, where Ruki immediately went back to the sofa to lie down. Mika looked worried at the sight of him looking so ill, as he pulled his sunglasses off, dropped them on the floor and stretched out with one arm draped across his eyes. Mitsu was busy rolling around in his basket. Mika walked over to sit on the edge of the sofa and she reached up to gently comb her fingers through his hair. Ruki dropped the arm from his eyes and smiled lazily at Mika - he was grateful because her fingers massaging his head felt very soothing.
"I'm sorry to be like this, you're probably really surprised. It's just been a while since I had such a hard night ..."
"Don't say sorry, everyone has bad days and nights. It was just your turn this time".
She laughed softly so it wouldn't make his headache worse. Ruki just smiled.
"If we hadn't slept on this sofa then I would be fine. I don't know why, but I always wake up feeling like crap when I sleep on this ... I guess it's just me".
"Hmm I'm all right, I slept rather heavily ... I didn't wake up at all until this morning".
Ruki reach over to give her knee a squeeze to say he was glad she was all right, before closing his eyes again and just enjoying the massage to his head.
"Why did you choose for us to sleep on this thing anyway if it makes you feel bad in the morning?"
"Because I was hoping we'd get to see the fireworks. We wouldn't have been able to see them very well from my bedroom ... of course we didn't really see them, but the light was reflecting on the ceiling, plus the sound".
Mika bit her bottom lip and looked down - she hadn't seen them because she was too tired.
"Sorry ... I made us miss the fireworks ..."
Ruki opened one eye to look at Mika with a grin.
"I wouldn't worry, there was definitely some in here".
Mika gasped in dismay - why does he do that, he knows I get embarrassed, she thought. And just for that she slapped his arm firmly, earning a decent laugh from him despite the migraine. She then promptly stood up and power walked into Ruki's bedroom, pretending to be angry, but only to begin packing up her things. In determination to be responsible about her leaving and Ruki going back to work, she thought it was a good idea to start packing. She had turned her phone back on that morning when getting changed to find a message from her parents - it read 'Akeome, Mika-chan! Hope you're having a fun night, your father and I are in town, and it's so busy. We'll be home in the afternoon on Tuesday. See you then'. The message was obviously from her mother.
That's when Mika decided it would be a good idea to get home early so the house could be opened, aired out and power-functional, ready for when her parents got home the next day. So while Ruki was resting Mika gathered up the clothes that were scattered around her bag, not bothering to fold them seeing most of it needed to be washed. After that was done she went to fetch her toiletries from the bench in Ruki's bathroom, neatly lined up under the mirror. Ruki had teased her about 'setting up her things' in the bathroom, claiming that she was already set to move in. Mika just blushed and didn't say a word - he was already implying that he wanted her to move on? Or was it just a simple tease? Okay, agreeing to have sex with him had been a tough decision ... but she didn't want to think about moving in with him already.
Mika quickly gathered up her things and went back to her bag, where she piled them back into her toiletries bag, then jamming that into the corner of her bag. As she was pushing more stuff into the bag, Mitsu had decided to come investigating, seeing she was making a bit of noise. He walked around the edge of the door and waddled over to sniff around Mika's bag, tail waging.
"Oh I wish I could take you home, you're so cute".
Mika cooed, zipping up her bag and standing up to wheel it back out to the lounge, Mitsu following close behind. Ruki heard Mika dragging her bag along and managed to push himself up onto his elbows to watch her moving it towards the front door.
"Your all set?"
Mika turned and smiled before leaning it against the wall near the door.
"Yeah, just packed up. The message I got from Ha-Ha this morning said they would be back tomorrow afternoon, so at least I can get home and open up the house, seeing it's been closed up for four days".
Ruki nodded lazily and flopped back onto the bed, clearly feeling drained but determined to get up so he could walk with Mika down to the car park. He felt her come back to sit beside him, lightly brushing strands of hair from his face. Ruki opened his eyes, took a deep breath and heaved himself up to a sitting position. Mika frowned when he blinked and shook his head.
"Your not well Ruki, don't get up".
"No, I want to see you off. Two months, remember?"
"So? I have your number ... we can call each other. Come on, I'm trying to be strong here but you only make me want to sulk if you keep babying me".
"And what's wrong with that?"
Ruki looked seriously at Mika but she just sighed and shook her head - here she was trying to be less naïve and more mature around him and he was implying that it was okay to be sulky.
"Ruki please ... remember I said I don't want to be treated like a child? This is one of those moments, so be sensible. Your sick, you can barely walk, you won't make it back up here, let alone down to the car park. I think I can find my way down stairs ..."
For once, it was Mika who could see through Ruki, not the other way around - he knew she was right. Ruki looked down in defeat - he wanted to be the one to protect Mika, and yet here he was feeling more vulnerable then ever ... after simply sleeping on a damn sofa! Mika smiled reassuringly at Ruki and reached up to stroke his cheek with her thumb.
"Today you need to rest. I can see myself out, so don't feel guilty, ne?"
"I'm so sorry ..."
Ruki said softly when Mika leaned forward to rest her forehead against his - she told him not to feel guilty, but he was already swimming in it. Mika kissed him sweetly.
"Apology not accepted, because there's nothing to be sorry for".
Ruki managed a smile on that last remark and Mika smiled too as she exchanged a hug with him ... and very much liking that he still had no shirt on.
"Aishiteru, Ruki ... and good luck with starting the new album".
"Aishiteru Mika-ko. Stay out of trouble while I'm gone".
"Always!"
Mika said heartily, pulling back to smile brightly at him. Then with one last romantic kiss Mika stood up and backtracked to her bag by the door. Mitsu was running around her panting, apparently not wanting her to leave without saying goodbye to him as well. Ruki, who was still sitting up, smiled as Mika bent down to give Mitsu a pat for goodbye - in return, Mitsu just turned to butter and rolled on the floor at her feet. When she stopped to put her shoes on Mitsu sprang up to yap in protest once again, causing Ruki to shush the little dog. Mika opened Ruki's door and pushed her bag out into the hallway, then smiled as she waved goodbye to Ruki. He briefly waved, only letting his hand drop when Mika disappeared, shutting the door tightly behind her. Ruki's face instantly fell - now he felt miserable, and Mika had only just left. He rolled onto his side on the bed and hugged the blanket tightly, burying his face into it - he wished that she would come back.

NOTES:
1) Girls jobs: As a quick refresh Ai, Megumi and Kira work in a supermarket, Kira does modeling on the side, and Kikyo and Mika work in child-care
2) Aoi's outburst to fans: I imagine this is what most celebrities would be faced with; the whole - become famous, everybody wants to date them, but they start seeing someone else, so fans get jealous, yada yada ... believe me, I get jealous just watching a make-up girl drawing those lines on Ruki's neck lol
3) Reita's toughness: I can see Reita trying not to show his soft side around girls
4) Ruki's attempt at quiting: We all know dear Ruki has tried to quit but failed miserably, and it's been at least two or three times in his musical career. He's a vocalist, he shouldn't be in the first place!
5) Coming of Age festival: I've read about this, it's to celebrate when girls and guys turn 20
6) Ha-Ha: It sounds strange but this is the more familiar term with 'Mother' in Japanese - like 'Chi-chi' means dad
7) Ruki protecting Mika: Because he loves her, Ruki wants to be like her 'rock' as the term goes. If you don't get it, message me and I'll elaborate
