"Hey loser," Kelly smiled, walking down the stairs of her actual home to find Jill stretched out on the sofa, turning her phone over and over in her hand.
"Hey," Jill laughed softly.
"Where's everybody?"
"Ashley is on myspace like always. Jason is working on something outside--I don't think I've seen him actually step foot into the house since we've been here--"
"Yea, he loves it out there," Kelly nodded.
"And Kate's swimming."
Kelly's eyebrows raised. She looked over her shoulder at the door that led to the outside before turning back to Jill. She sighed, knowing something was on her mind. "So what about you? Just relaxing?" she asked, sitting on a chair.
"Yea. You were working upstairs?"
"Yea, had a meeting over the phone I had to deal with."
"Cool."
"So, I so can't do like Ashley and drag it out of you slowly, so I'm just gonna come straight out and ask...is everything ok?"
Jill smiled, "Yea, everything's fine. I was just thinking."
"About Meghan?"
"Yea. Do you think inviting her here is rushing it a bit?"
"Not really," Kelly shook her head. "The thing you have to remember is that y'all were friends before anything else. You asking her to come hang out doesn't have to be anything more than friendly."
Jill nodded.
"Having doubts?"
"I don't know. I mean, I really like her, but we have been friends for far too long. What if having an actual relationship with her messes that up?"
"Isn't it already a little too late to be worrying about that? You already made out with the girl."
Jill blushed.
"Oh my God, y'all totally did it!"
"Announce it to the world, why don't you?"
Kelly giggled, "Was it good?"
Jill blushed deeper.
"It so was," Kelly grinned. "Good for you. But yea, it's definitely too late now."
"You think?"
"Well, I mean. Sure y'all can say you want to be just friends, and y'all can maybe go back to just being friends, but that...what y'all shared...that's always gonna be in the back of your mind. You're always gonna have that what if."
"You know a good bit about this relationship thing for someone who is chronically single."
Kelly smiled, "Yea, I got to sit back and watch all my friends go through just about every type of relationship drama imaginable. Guess I picked up a thing or two along the way."
Jill nodded.
"Call her. If not to invite her over, then to at least just talk to her. You know you miss her voice."
Jill smiled softly, "Yea...thanks."
Kelly shrugged, standing. She glanced at the back door.
"Go," Jill chuckled. "You know she'd never say no to your company."
Kelly laughed softly, smiling, "You think?"
"The girl is totally enamored with you," Jill rolled her eyes.
"You're her best friend," Kelly looked at her. "You know her better than anyone. What do you think...Do you think I'd ever have a shot?"
Jill thought for a moment before replying, "I think I'd pay a million bucks to know what the hell was going on in her mind right now."
"That's not a definite no," she smiled again.
"That's not a definite no," Jill shook her head. "So go on and have fun."
"Thanks," Kelly tapped her foot as she passed the sofa, heading towards the back door. "Hey," she greeted as she walked out to the pool, resisting the urge to not say anything and just stare at the girl for a moment as she lay on a blow up float in the middle of the pool with her sunglasses on, enjoying the sun.
"Hey," Kate replied with a smile, not having to turn to be able to recognize the voice.
"It's nice out here, today," Kelly commented.
"Definitely."
Kelly let her eyes travel over the tall blonde's body, finding that she had suddenly forgotten what she had wanted to say.
"How was the phone call?"
"It was--it was good," Kelly nodded, regaining her composure as she walked towards the pool. She rolled up the legs of her pants before sitting on the edge, allowing her bare feet to dip into the water.
"They didn't give you any trouble today?"
"Not really. I didn't ask about the Idol thing. It's just not worth it," she looked down at her feet, kicking softly in the water.
Kate carefully rolled off the raft, standing in the waist deep water as she walked to where Kelly was sitting. "You know...it's ok to look at me."
Kelly blushed softly, her eyes raising from the water to the other girl's face, "Sorry."
"It's ok," she laughed lightly. "So did you ask about why they pushed the album up?"
Kelly shook her head, reaching out and pushing Kate's sunglasses back so she could see more of her face, "I know it's Jeff, but I don't wanna know whether what he did was good or bad."
Kate offered a smile, placing her hands on either sides of Kelly's legs, "I wish you didn't have to worry about things like that. He's your manager. It should always be good."
"Yea...maybe the next one will be better."
"I really hope so."
"You're sweet," Kelly commented, taking her hand.
Kate's smile became shy, "Nah, you just make it easy for people to root for you."
"How do I do that?" she asked curiously.
"I don't know," Kate shrugged. "If I did, I'd be riding that gravy train to the bank."
Kelly laughed, "You'd bail on me?"
"Not completely," she joked. "I'd thank you in my Grammy speech."
"Well, that's all anyone can ask for, right?"
Kate nodded, giggling.
"Y'all are gonna make it there one day...I really do believe that," Kelly grew serious.
"You do?"
"I do," she nodded.
"You know what I believe?"
"What do you believe?" Kelly smiled, noticing the playful spark in her eyes.
"Well, call it more of a premonition than a belief, but I believe that you will no longer be dry in the near future."
"What?" Kelly barely had time to ask before she felt herself getting pulled into the pool.
Kate laughed loudly as Kelly stood, sputtering, "Looks like my premonition turned out to be correct."
"Maybe you should be a psychic," Kelly replied cheekily.
Kate grinned.
"Tell me...what's your next premonition?" Kelly walked towards her.
"That you're gonna kick my ass?"
"You know, that's a very good premonition," Kelly nodded as she wrapped her arms around her, dunking her under the water.
Kate reemerged, wiping the water from her eyes, "You know...I'm thinking about starting my own psychic phone line. I can be the next Miss Cleo."
Kelly laughed, taking both of her hands into her own, "So..."
"So?"
"So, I've been refraining from saying how good you look at the risk of it sounding sleazy, but I'm sorry, I can't anymore. You look great."
Kate smiled, blushing deeply.
"That was sleazy, huh?"
"No, no," Kate tugged her closer. "Coming from you, it was sweet."
"Good," Kelly nodded, looking her in the eye. "Because you look really amazing. Like seriously."
"You're good at making a girl feel special, you know that?"
Kelly laughed softly, "If all it takes to make you feel special is for me to comment on how hot you are, then you just made my job a lot easier."
"You didn't say hot. You said amazing."
"Oh? Well, you're hot too, don't worry."
Kate smiled, continuing, "And it's the way you said it, and the fact that you were looking at my face while saying that."
Kelly shrugged, "That's because I was totally checking you out when you were on that float, so I already knew how great the rest of you looked."
Kate shook her head, laughing.
"What?"
"You're crazy. That's the best way to put it: you're crazy."
"I'm not crazy," Kelly replied. "I just really like your smile."
Kate blushed again.
"You would think by now you'd be over this blushing thing," she teased.
"Maybe if you wouldn't say things like that with such sincerity, then yea."
"Even then, you should be used to it by now. You totally deserve someone who says stuff like that to you all the time."
"I think that you are way more of a sweetheart than you realize."
Kelly chuckled.
"What? You are."
"Just what everyone wants to hear...how sweet they are..."
Kate rolled her eyes, "You know that's not all I think of you."
"That's true. You totally think I'm sexy."
Kate nodded, "I do."
"You do?" Kelly's eyebrows raised.
"Yea," Kate giggled at her surprise. "You are."
"God..."Kelly sunk under the water, blowing a few air bubbles before reemerging. "You're killing me, Smalls."
"I'm not allowed to say that?"
"Not when you're standing this close to me, wearing that you aren't," Kelly replied.
She smiled.
"What?"
"I don't know...it's nice to know I can affect someone like that."
"Girl, if you only knew the ways you affect me," Kelly said honestly.
"Yea?"
"Yes."
Her smile grew.
"Come here," Kelly pulled her into a hug. "Ok..." she let her go. "I'm gonna go change. I think we're going out for dinner tonight around six, ok?"
"Ok," Kate nodded. "Is Meghan coming out here?"
"If Jill decides to ball up and ask her, yea. Why?"
Kate shrugged, "She still thinks we're together."
"True...lucky me," she winked, backing away.
Kate giggled.
"Enjoy the pool," Kelly smiled before getting out, her wet clothes clinging to her.
++++++++++
"This is so exciting," Kate grinned, bouncing on her toes.
Kelly laughed.
"What time is the plane supposed to land?" Jill asked nervously as the three of them stood in the Texas airport. "Is it late?"
"It should be landing any minute now," Kelly checked the time on her phone. She had to fight the urge to take Kate's hand when it bumped into her own. They had decided that the middle of a huge Texas airport wasn't the best place for two girls to be showing affection, especially since Kelly was one of them.
"Oh, there she is, there she is," Kate waved enthusiastically as Meghan walked through the gate.
"She looks great," Jill nodded. "How does she look great coming off a flight?"
Kelly patted her arm, "Why don't you go tell her how great she looks?"
Kate smiled as Jill walked to Meghan to direct her their way, "They're so cute."
"Yea," Kelly agreed, watching them hug. "I'm glad Jill finally got the courage to call her."
"Well..."
"Well?" Kelly turned to her with a smile. "What did you do?"
"I knew Jill wasn't gonna because she's so damn chicken, so I called Meghan myself."
"You invited her?"
"No, I just told her that we would all really like for her to come hang out, especially Jill. Then she asked why Jill hadn't asked her, herself. So I said because she was too nervous. So Meghan called Jill, and kinda invited herself."
Kelly shook her head, laughing.
"What?"
"You totally wanted her to come over."
"Well yea, I like seeing Jill happy, and I like hanging out with Meghan."
"And you wanted us to act like a couple."
Kate smiled, "You think highly of yourself."
"You know it's true," Kelly shrugged. "You so like being my girlfriend."
"Hey guys," Meghan greeted as she and Jill walked over to them. She gave them each a hug.
"How was your flight?" Kelly asked.
"Oh, it was great. Not a single bump or anything."
"Good. Let's go find your luggage."
Meghan nodded in agreement.
"Hey," Kate beamed, hooking arms with her friend.
"Hey," Meghan giggled. "You've been behaving?"
"Of course not," she replied, earning a laugh.
"Should've known better than to ask," Meghan shook her head.
+++++++++
Kelly chuckled as she watched Meghan and Jill in the backseat, stealing glances at each other. She gave Kate's hand, which she had taken as soon as they were in the vehicle, a gentle squeeze.
Kate watched the couple through the mirror of her visor, smiling.
"Just kiss her already," Kelly encouraged, making Kate laugh.
"Dude..." Jill fussed. "Not cool."
"What? You know you want to."
"Why don't y'all kiss?" she retorted.
"Because I'm driving, and once we start, there's no stopping us," Kelly replied simply, smirking as Kate kissed her hand. "Meghan...do you want Jill to kiss you?"
Meghan blushed, "Yes."
"And Jill, do you want to kiss Meghan?"
"Well, yea."
"Then do it," Kelly laughed.
Jill rolled her eyes as she leaned across the back seat, kissing Meghan softly. She pulled back a little, smiling, before leaning to her again, kissing her properly.
"Young love," Kate teased, kissing Kelly's hand again.
++++++++++++
Kelly watched as Jill led Meghan down the hall, showing her the spare bedrooms. Jill pointed to the one she was staying in and Meghan pointed to the one right next to it before turning back to Kelly.
"Is this ok?"
"Whichever one you want," Kelly laughed softly, mentally applauding Kate for having pointed out that she should move her stuff up to Kelly's room so that it seemed that they were sharing a room, leaving the room that Meghan just walked in, vacant. She smiled at the feeling of a pair of arms wrapping around her from behind.
"Five bucks they end up in the same bed before the night's over," Kate grinned.
"I only take bets, I know I'll win," Kelly leaned back into the embrace. "So what do you want to do tonight?"
"Meghan seemed pretty excited about the pool when I showed it to her earlier."
"Sure...you just want to make me all weak-kneed again."
Kate giggled, "Yes, that's my evil plan. To make you completely fall for me."
"Ok, so step one complete. What's the next step?"
Kate wrapped her arms around her tighter, "Hm...I haven't thought that out yet."
Kelly smiled, "Well, swimming does sound good. Besides my little wet t-shirt contest yesterday, I haven't been in the pool in forever. We can order some take out. I'll fix up the bar. It'll be a nice night in."
"Sounds great."
"Cool," Kelly nodded. "Do you think they're making out in there?"
"I have no doubt."
"Ok," she smiled, turning in Kate's arms to face her. "I'm gonna go talk to Ash real quick to let her know the plans. Why don't you go ask Jill and Meghan what they're gonna be hungry for."
"Why do I have to be the one to interrupt them?"
"Because you've been friends with them for longer."
"But Jill gets pissed when walk in on her."
"You've walked in on her before?" Kelly raised an eyebrow.
Kate nodded, pouting.
"Aw...poor thing..." Kelly giggled.
"She throws things."
"Like?"
"One time it was a pillow. The other time, it was the girl's thong..."
Kelly covered her mouth as a loud laugh escape, "What?"
"I guess that was the nearest thing in her reach," Kate shrugged, blushing at the memory.
"Wow..." Kelly rubbed her back. "Ever tried knocking?"
"I did, but I guess they were too busy to respond. It's not like they were making a lot of noise or anything, so I walked in, and there was my best friend...her face in between some girl's legs--"
Kelly reached up, placing her fingers over Kate's lips, "Yea, I get the picture. Ok, you don't have to interrupt them."
Kate looked at her, thankfully.
"We'll just order a little of everything," Kelly nodded. "But I still have to go talk to Ash."
Kate started pouting again.
"What?"
She shrugged, "I don't know. I was enjoying talking to you."
Kelly smiled, "Well, I'll make it quick with Ashley, then I'll come back down here. You can help me set up the bar."
"Oh...can you teach me how to make a couple drinks?"
"I'm not an expert or anything, but I'll try," she nodded.
"Awesome," Kate grinned. "Ok, go talk to Ashley. I'll be down here."
++++++++++
"So, y'all are going swimming?" Ashley asked, digging through Kelly's closet as the shorter Texan sat on the bed.
"Yea."
"And do you want me to tell Jay to take the top off the hot tub?"
"It's finished being installed?"
"You didn't notice?"
"I was kinda distracted when I went out there yesterday..."
Ashley laughed, "I'll make sure it's set up for y'all."
"You don't think it'll be too hot for a hot tub?"
"No, you can adjust the water's temperature as need be," Ashley explained. "And a hot tub is way more romantic than a pool, anyway."
"Thanks," Kelly smiled.
"So...Meghan still thinks you and Kate are dating, huh?"
"Yea."
"So, does this mean you want me and Jay to give the four of y'all a little privacy tonight for your little late night rendezvous?"
"You know I'd never kick you out."
"That's a yes," Ashley smiled. "No worries. I'll call up some of the usual crowd, and we'll go hang out. The house is all yours."
"Thanks, Ash."
Ashley nodded, pulling out a shirt, "Here we go...don't know how it got in your closet."
Kelly shrugged, "You say that like I actually hang up clothes."
"True," Ashley laughed, carefully stepping over the shirts that covered the walk-in closet's floor. "Ok, so I'll call some people up. We'll go hang out at some bar, or whatever. You have fun tonight, playing lover with a hot chick in a bikini, ok?"
"Ok," Kelly giggled as Ashley kissed the top of her head. "Y'all have fun too."
"It's me...of course we'll have fun."
"Of course," she rolled her eyes playfully. "Don't know why I even said that."
"You're a slow learner...it's ok," Ashley teased as she walked out the door.
