Finally, Kyo was far enough into his pregnancy for them to discern the baby’s gender. Currently, they were waiting to have the ultrasound and Die was on edge. He was ready to find out what their child was and the anticipation was getting to him. Kyo was lying back on the table with his shirt already hauled up and his pants pushed down low, waiting. The boy’s fingers drummed a soft, idle beat atop his swelling belly, relaying the fact that he, too, was ready to get things going.
Finally, after what seemed like forever, the technician came into the room and took his seat at the monitor. “Alright, do you two wish to find out the gender of your baby?” He asked, knowing that sometimes, some families liked to be surprised about the gender and find out at birth. Kyo nodded and smiled. “Yeah, we wanna know.” He answered for the both of them, knowing that Die was just as giddy about it as he was.
Die watched anxiously while the technician coated Kyo’s stomach with the gel and prepared the transducer. He messed with the monitor for a moment before nodding to them and informing them to just watch the screen. The man placed the transducer on the boy’s belly and the device picked up the images and displayed them on the monitor.
The taller redhead reached over and grabbed Kyo’s hand, rubbing at the smaller appendage as he waited to see something discernable. The baby’s shape was much more visible by that point, but it didn’t seem like he or she was at all willing to give up the secret. In fact, it seemed like the baby was turned with his or her back toward them. Die felt mildly amused; their baby was stubborn already?
“It’s like they don’t want to let us find out.” Kyo smiled softly and gripped Die’s hand tightly. His heart swelled with pride, taking delight in the fact that he and Die made this baby. Had it been anyone else, he didn’t know if he’d be as excited. The boy watched the screen as the doctor tried to get a better image of the baby to find out its gender.
Die waited a moment, observing with interest as the technician reached over with a gloved hand and massaged at Kyo’s side, trying to prod the baby into shifting. The small form did react to the touch by moving in a rather disgruntled fashion, or what Die perceived to be one. For a moment longer, the technician continued and finally, their child did turn to face them, but the taller male was still uncertain. “See, look here,” the tech instructed, “It looks like you are having a girl.”
Kyo’s eyes lit up and he smiled brightly as he watched the monitor. The boy was excided now that the gender he was hoping for silently was what they were having. “Looks like we can go baby shopping now, Die.” The smaller redhead chirped as he looked over to his companion. His hand gripped the other’s briefly before relaxing and holding the larger hand softly.
Kyo could buy whatever he wanted for their daughter; Die was just floored. A small smile tugged at his lips before he caved in completely and grinned. Oh God, he was going to be some little girl’s dad… What was he going to do with himself, having to guard over what was bound to be a pretty little girl? He squeezed Kyo’s hand and a short burst of laughter escaped him. More than anything else, he felt stunned by the sudden rush of affection and possessiveness he felt for both Kyo and their baby.
Taking the picture of the child that was handed to him; Kyo waited until his stomach was cleaned off before sitting up on the edge of the table. “We should show our mother, I’m sure she’d love to know.” Kyo said as he stood from the edge of the table and pulled Die into a tight hug. He felt so excited now. On their way out of the hospital, Kyo had an instant idea. “Die, can you give me a piggy back ride?”
“I can, but is it a good idea? I don’t want to hurt you,” Die said, making a face. The boy’s enthusiasm was infectious and very cute, though, and Die felt badly for even potentially putting a damper on his excitement. The last thing he wanted to do was cause harm in any way, so he was caught at a crossroad.
“I’ll be okay. Just kneel down first so I don’t have to jump to reach you.” He giggled slightly, looking up at Die. The taller redhead’s mother lived close by, so Kyo was thankful that they didn’t have to take a long trip to get there. When Die kneeled down enough for him to hop on, he straddled the other’s back and wrapped his arms loosely around his neck.
Cautiously, Die rose up, lifting Kyo with him as he went. He leaned forward slightly to keep the boy from sliding down and placed his hands over the smaller male’s forearms, gripping to help hold him in place better for a moment. It felt funny to walk around with Kyo perched on his back like a kid, but he enjoyed the closeness. Shifting his hands to Kyo’s legs, the taller male transported them back to the car, feeling exuberant about the entire situation. Die was actually very excited to tell his mother that she was going to have a granddaughter and was ready to go give her the news.
Ever since meeting Die’s mother, Kyo kept contact with her along with Die. This visit would much better than the first that was for sure. Kyo knew that she didn’t care who or what he was and it pleased him. It showed in Die exactly where he got his attitude about things, there was no denying that. Leaning down slightly, Kyo gave the taller redhead a kiss on the cheek where he could reach and smiled against his ear. He was so thankful to find someone like Die; it really changed his life around for the better.
“Okay, hop down,” Die said, crouching awkwardly to allow the smaller male the chance to reach the ground with no struggle. When Kyo complied, Die moved to open the car door for him and waited until the boy was settled before shutting it and going to his side. Once they were both ready, he pulled out of the parking deck and they headed for his mother’s house.
Needless to say, Kyo was fairly excided. He was tapping his fingers on his lap as he looked out the window. When they pulled in the drive way and were parked, Kyo got out of the car and waited for Die to do the same. They walked up to the front door and rang the door bell, waiting for the woman to come to the door and answer it.
Die’s mother rose from the kitchen table and made her way to the front door. When she opened it, Kyo and her son stood on the other side and judging by their pleased expressions, something good had happened. “What’s the good news?” she questioned pleasantly, stepping aside and granting them entrance to her home.
“We found out the gender of the baby.” Kyo said with a bright smile, holding Die’s hand as they walked into the living room. Taking a seat on the sofa, he waited until she sat down before telling her of the good news. “We just got out of the hospital and found out the gender of the baby. You’re going to have a granddaughter.” Kyo smiled brightly and gripped Die’s hand tightly, moving to lean against him.
That was a pleasant surprise for the woman. On some level, she had suspected that the baby was a little boy, which would have been fine by her, but deep down, she enjoyed the prospect of have a little, delicate thing to fuss over and spoil. “You’re going to have you hands full, even with a girl,” she said with a small smile. Die was going to get a taste of what it was like to have the immense responsibility and priceless gift of unconditional love. They were both massive, almost overwhelming sentiments, but she was certain that both her son and Kyo would step up to the task of raising the girl quite nicely.
“I was actually hoping for a girl. I didn’t really care though; I would love her even if she was a boy instead.” He wrapped his arms around one of Die’s arms and leaned to rest his head on the taller male’s shoulder. “We still have yet to go shopping for her though. We were waiting to find out the gender before getting the things for her.”
“I would like to help you when you start buying baby things,” Die’s mother said. “No offense to you, Die, but I don’t think that would be your strong suit.” She laughed lightly, having trouble picturing her son shopping for all things pink and feminine.
Smirking, Die rubbed at one of Kyo’s limbs that were wrapped around his arm. “You can definitely have fun with that one, Mom,” he acquiesced. “I don’t know if I’ll be able to handle all of the frilly girly stuff.” In spite of that, he grinned, brimming with happiness still.
“It will be so fun. I can’t wait.” Kyo smiled as he placed his hand on Die’s. “We got a cat too, she had five kittens. They’re about six weeks old now.” He smiled; eager to tell her all about the Mayu and her kittens. The boy loved that cat and her little wobbly kittens to death. They seemed to like him just as much, always climbing over him and lying with him on the bed as he slept when Mayu decided to drag them up there.
“You will definitely have a lot on your plate, but at least you’ll have some sort of experience juggling a lot of things at one time,” Die’s mother said. Kittens really weren’t that much like human babies, but she supposed that a multitude of them running around and crying could equal something close.
They chattered on for a while before Kyo gave a yawn, looking at the time. He was close to missing one of his meals, so he prodded Die. “We have to go, I’m missing a meal.” Kyo had almost forgotten to mention his condition. “I have gestational diabetes, so they put me on a strict diet so the baby is healthy and I’m healthy too.”
Die’s mother nodded sympathetically. “You’d better go then. Call me when you want to go shopping,” she said, smiling and accompanying Kyo and Die to the door. Before they left, she claimed a hug from both of them and watched them climb into their car and go.
