The handsome Jonathan Williams, a man in his early forties, and head of the worldwide lifeboat institution, sighed when he finally set foot on the white beach his motorboat and had brought him and his crew to.
He really didn’t want to be disappointed once again, since this was truly the last place they would look for survivors. They didn’t find a single soul so far and he started to fear there really was no one left.
The tornado seemed to have vanished the entire cruise ship and it’s passengers from the face of the earth, and only some wreckage of the destroyed ship had been found. Still it was his job to keep looking and find possible survivors out here in the open sea. It seemed impossible, and hope was fading with every empty island they searched through.
He wanted to go home desperately, since his wife was about to give birth to his firstborn this very week. He was tired, disappointed and the sun had burned his arms and face. He was so done with this whole operation. Still, John did have a funny feeling about this island.
It was the only one that had not been on the map. They had accidentally bumped in to it, since it wasn’t even that far from the other small islands in this part of the ocean. But it was easily
missed, since it was just outside the area they were searching. The other
islands were all lined up in the water, while this one was more on the right
side.
It took the good eyes of the steersmen and the right equipment to find it. Even though he could have turned around and have gone home, he decided against it, and to check out the little and unknown island. Something told him it was something he had to do before they would head back. If only to not be haunted by the question…what if?
This island was small, and it wouldn't take long for them to search through. And as he walked on the white beach, a feeling overtook him. A feeling this one was truly different.
Even though there was no one to be seen, Jonathan realized it looked more ‘lived’ than the other islands had. The sand was more ruffled, and the trees had little fruit on them, as they
should have. Animals seemed to hide further into the forest. Yes, he had a feeling about this one.
He and the small group of men that had come with him, walked further onto the beach as he gave them his usual orders.
“Ok guys, you all know how it goes. Two of you take the left, two take the middle and two the right. I stay here to guard the beach and the boat. Anything out of the ordinary must be reported immediately. Go.”
He was a strong and greatly respected man, and his crew did as told right away as he stayed where he was. Looking out over the beach and seeing if he noticed anything moving on the white, wide surface.
But even though the only movement was that of some birds, and the waves of the sea, he did notice something unusual half hidden by threes and branches in the grass. It was big, black and nothing nature could have provided. It was rubber boat.
He walked up to it slowly, like it could be an animal. But yes, it was a boat, and clearly one of the little boats that were always hanging from the side of a huge ship. Possibly a cruise ship. The smell of rubber filled his nose as he walked up to it, feeling a huge spark of hope being lit
within him.
Walking closer he noticed the element t-shirt on it. Casually draped over the round arm of the boat, as it lay in the burning sun. Leftovers from a campfire right next to it, with black ash and half burned sticks. There were people on this island, or at least one person. There was no doubt about it.
There really were survivors. It gave him a thrill, as much as it frightened him. He, she or they must have been here for over 6 months now, and he feared what had become of them. He picked up the shirt with one hand, feeling the warm material in his hand as he checked it for bloodstains. Anything to tell him what kind of state he would find the owner in. But it was brand clean, and it didn’t even smell bad. He had no clue how long it had not been worn yet, and he feared the worst.
He knew he needed to warn the others, and he grabbed the walky-talky on his belt. But before he could push the button he heard a sound coming from the trees behind the boat, making him look up with a jerk of his head. He yelped, his eyes wide as he stumbled back and almost fell down as yes, he finally saw what he was looking for.
Two healthy but scared looking men had come out of the forest. Neatly shaved, shirtless and holding hands. Simply staring at him and leaving Jonathan speechless.
**
It was so unreal to see someone other then each other for the first time in months. Bam and Ville both stood stunned across from the shocked looking man, who had dropped Bam’s t-shirt on the boat as he stood across from them. And even though Bam had been talking to Ville all this time, it seemed like he needed to find his voice all over again.
“W-who are you?”
The man seemed taken aback, like he hadn’t expected them to be able to speak, before he cleared his throat and straightened his back, remembering who he was and why he was here.
“Jonathan Williams from the worldwide lifeboat institution. You can call me John. I'm here to rescue you guys from the island. Are you the survivors from the sunken cruise ship, ‘The Elizabeth’?” He spoke with confidence, walking around the boat to shake Bam’s and Ville’s hand, who hesitated a second before letting go of each other and taking the offered, slightly
clammy hand to shake.
The moment they were done, Ville felt Bam’s hand in his again, and he squeezed it gently to comfort his lover. He was scared too, just like Bam was. He could tell by the sweaty palm
pressing against his own, and the rapid heartbeat coming from Bam’s chest.
But everything was going to be all right. Great even. He knew it. And he had just the plan how to make that happen.
“Bam and Ville, Thank you for coming for us sir.” Bam heard Ville speak politely, but hollow. He knew everyone would expect them to be grateful to be saved. And even though they were, it didn’t feel like they wanted it to. Like he wanted to feel. It was still very hard.
“Bam Margera and Ville Valo? U.S. Westchester and Finland Helsinki?” John asked as he grabbed a list from his pocket, searching through it and stopped when he noticed their names on it as Ville and Bam simply nodded.
“Yes, you're on the list of missing passengers. How wonderful we've found you.” He smiled sincerely. He truly was grateful, not being able to imagine what these men had been going through these couple of months.
“Are there any more survivors on this island?”
“No, just us.”
Ville rubbed Bam’s back in lazy circles as he talked to John, who asked him questions as he called back his crew. He felt him shiver a little under his touch and as John was talking to his crew somewhere in the forests over his walky-talky, he turned to Bam, grabbing his shoulders and forcing him gently to look at him.
“Bammie, baby we’ve talked about this. I know this feels like home but…..it’s gonna be so good when we get back. It'll be a next step. Why are you so scared sweetheart?” Ville cooed, hating to see Bam like this, as he tried to push back his own fears.
Bam’s blue eyes looked up and right into his, filled with mixed emotions as he replied softly.
”I'm not scared, I’m just……..Will you come with me, when I go to Westchester? I really don’t want to go alone.”
Bam sounded like he was almost crying, and Ville smiled at the silliness of his boy. How could he possibly doubt that he was coming with him. He wouldn’t leave his side from now on, and he knew Bam only needed to be reassured of it.
“Of course I’ll come with you. We'll go to Westchester so I can meet your family and friends, and then we go to Helsinki so you meet mine.” Ville smiled, whipping a strand of brown hair off Bam’s tanned forehead, seeing the younger man relax before his eyes.
“And then….we move into your house, right?” Bam knew they had already agreed to this, but he couldn’t help asking now it was all coming so close. Had it been a silly lovers dream after all?
“Yes darling, we move into my tower and I’ll make love to you in every single room.” Ville whispered the last part into Bam’s ear, who instantly giggled and blushed like a schoolgirl.
“Yeah, the tower.” He smiled widely, remembering Ville telling him about his house. He really had no idea how to picture it, but he knew it was gonna feel like home right away. Having Ville written all over it.
Ville ruffled Bam’s hair lovingly, knowing this was the right thing and that he was going to make Bam so happy. No matter what it took, his boy was not going back to the place he had been before. Thinking of home, he was happy Jonna and he had not been living together when he'd left. It made it all a little less hard, since he didn't need to kick her out.
“I love you.” Bam mouthed, looking up at him and placing his hands on Ville’s thin waist, pulling him slightly closer.
“I love you too angel.” Ville smiled, his face lighting up. Bam always love to make Ville’s apple green eyes sparkle, as they did now, and they both shared a sweet, soft kiss. Ville’s arms casually draped over Bam’s shoulders, while Bam was still holding his waist as he pressed his plump lips against Ville’s gently.
They only broke apart when they heard a small gasp, noticing Jonathan looking at them with an open mouth and flushed cheeks. He looked so shocked, Bam and Ville couldn’t help but grin. They'd have to deal with this reaction from a lot of people in the next couple of weeks. They better get used to it.
“Uhm….Ehh…We ehm..…..We'll be going to the boat soon so eh….I eh…..I suggest you guys grab your….ehm…things, so we can take you back to land and on an airplane home. Your families will be very happy to see you again.” John mumbled with a small smile playing around his lips. His face was still flushed and he obviously had not expected this to happen, but he seemed more amused by it then anything else.
“Grab our things? Well I sure hope you brought a truck with you to move all our
stuff.” Ville joked, making Bam chuckle.
The only thing they really still had that they did not have on was Bam’s shirt, which he quickly pulled over his head and grabbed hold of Ville’s hand again to make sure he truly had everything with him.
‘The boat.’ Flashed through Ville’s mind, but when he looked at the huge rubber, black boat, he knew that wasn’t an option. It was too big to bring with them. And who knew….maybe some other stranded couple would be able to use it as a bed in the future. That thought made him smile.
“Where will you take us?” Bam asked John as Ville was lost in his thoughts.
“Well, we'll bring both of you to the nearest airport. I'll have to check with the base which one that is. Then we'll put you on a plane to Westchester and mister Valo on a plane to Helsinki. So you will both being home before this day ends. Isn’t that wonderful?”
John spoke with a big smile, feeling a little puzzled when both Bam and Ville frowned.
“Ehm…yes that is wonderful. Only I will be joining Bam on his plane to Westchester. We'll fly to Helsinki on our own. But thank you, really.” Ville spoke politely as Bam nodded, biting his lip as Jonathan shook his head.
“I'm afraid that can't happen guys, I'm sorry. We promised your families we'd bring you home straight away. I can’t break that promise.”
“They'll understand. I'll call them when we get to the airport.” Ville assured him, but John kept shaking his head.
“It's a promise made by the government. You can’t just ignore that mister Valo. You will be going to Helsinki, and mister Margera will be going to Westchester, as promised.”
Bam felt his heart beating in his chest, but he understood there was no other way. One of them would just have to fly in, a couple of days later. He would have to spend that time without Ville. It was the only way.
“Then we're not coming.” Ville suddenly interrupted his thoughts, and Bam turned his head to look at Ville, who looked very determined as he squeezed Bam’s shoulder gently. John, who looked a little taken aback, frowned at Ville, obviously searching for words.
“Look John, I really appreciate you guys looking for us, but the only thing you have to do now is take us to the airport. This little plan of yours is not my idea, nor is it my promise. I will be going on that plane with Bam. I will not leave him. And that’s the way it’s gonna be. I know you don’t understand but….It just has to happen like that. It has to.”
Ville’s words were strong, but almost pleading. He had promised Bam how it was going to be
for them, how wonderful it would become, and he needed to make that happen. Bam deserved that much, and he didn’t want to go home without his soul mate.
John looked at Ville in silence, realizing this was probably bigger than he would ever know. And they had been through so much already. And yes…he just really wanted to go to his pregnant wife. If this was their only request….
“You're in love.” He stated, knowing he was probably crossing a line, but knowing that little detail could bend some rules in the process.
“We are.” Bam replied shyly, feeling his face burn as he saw Ville smile and felt him stroking the hair in the nap of his neck. John blinked for a moment.
“If you promise to call the moment we get to the airport…”He sighed deeply before continuing. “I’ll see what I can do.”
“Thank you.”
Both Bam and Ville smiled. John turned around as his men came walking on the beach, greeting both Ville and Bam with looks of awe in their eyes. Asking them careful questions and speaking softly, as if they were both made of glass. Both Ville and Bam stayed polite, but found it very amusing. These people treated them like they were some sort of hero’s, while
both of them knew they hadn’t really done anything but survive.
“A tornado free boat ride this time, we promise.” On of the guys joked, making Ville and Bam grin, but inwardly, they were both praying it was the truth.
Finally they were led to the motorboat, that brought them to the huge ship not far from the coast. Both of them were quiet at the sight of the huge ship in the water and the feel of steel under their fingertips when they walked onto it. The smells, the colours, the feelings. It was all so different. And all so familiar at the same time.
They were asked to go inside, but both of them wanted to stay on deck. Both of them were offered all kinds of food and drinks….but all they wanted was some fresh water. Just for now, they only wanted water. Just to hang on to the feeling of it all just a little longer. Most of all, they wanted to be left alone for a little while.
“Are we really doing this Ville? Are we really leaving?” Bam asked, his voice thick, as he looked at their island from their place on the front deck. It looked so different from up here, but still he could point out all the places they had been to. Even the cliff Ville had almost died upon.
“Yes Bammie. We have too.” Ville answered, feeling a tear falling down his cheek as he looked at their little paradise. It was harder than he had expected it to be.
But it didn’t leave him feeling empty. Not with Bam here by his side. Bam wiped away Ville’s tears, as he smiled a watery smile.
“It’s ok baby.” He said sweetly, and he knew it was true. He already knew the first thing he was going to do when they got back, was skate. Show of his tricks to Ville. Yes, he did have a lot to look forward to.
“Are you happy Bam?”
“Yes Ville, very happy.”
Then yes, it was ok. Ville dried his eyes and smiled as the boat moved in the opposite direction of their island. Wrapping his arms around Bam as they both looked in silence, until it was no longer in sight.
The humming of the boat and the screaming birds were the only sound for a long while, as they sat together, snuggled up in each others embrace. Stealing kisses every once in awhile, and whispering sweet nothings in each others ears.
It was enough. And the later it got, the more they were talking about all the things they wanted to do when they got back. Singing, drinking beer, eating ice cream, shave with a razor. All the little things they had always took for granted, were things they couldn't wait to
be doing again. Only now together, as a couple.
They didn’t see anything but blue ocean for the longest time, until the sky became dark around them, and suddenly little lights that were not stars lit the sky.
“Oh my god Ville, look.” Bam said in awe, standing up from his seat. Buildings. Coming closer and closer. Buildings. Civilisation. People. They were almost there.
Bam walked to the front of the ship, and Ville followed him. Both staring mesmerized at the world. The sight of the world they had not seen in such a long time.
As Ville came up behind Bam, he felt the boy shiver, and wrapped his arms around his trembling frame protectively, planting his chin on his shoulder, next to Bam’s head.
“It’s beautiful. It’s different, but so beautiful.” Bam whispered with a smile, pressing his head against Ville’s.
“Not as beautiful as you.” Ville whispered sensually in his ear, making Bam look at him with a sweet smile, feeling warmth spreading in his body. Ville’s eyes grew serious, as he kept looking at Bam, cupping his face and rubbing his cheek with his thumb.
“Bam, will you marry me?”
He whispered, hot breath brushing against Bam’s ear as he looked into his eyes, growing wetter with every second.
“V-Ville, are you serious?” He stuttered, a glow washing over his face, and his hand grabbing hold of Ville’s.
“Yes Bammie. Please, marry me?” Ville asked again, this time sinking down on one knee before Bam. Knowing he never wanted to spend his life with anyone else again, and that this was the first time in his life he was finally sure of what he wanted. Bam as his husband, for the rest of their lives.
“Of course I will Willa. Oh my god, yes. I love you so fucking much.” Bam cried, his voice cracking as tears slid down his smiling face, pulling Ville up as he hugged him tight.
“I love you too Bammie. We can do this together. We can.” Ville whispered with a sob against Bam’s shoulder. The sun was just setting, as they were bathed in red and orange light together with the lights of the city.
They would be home soon, and it was as scary as it was exciting. It was going to be hard, but they could handle it. They were getting married. The city came closer and closer. Soon they would set food on land, holding each others hand tightly, and starting a new life together.
“In a way, getting ship wrecked, was defiantly the best thing that ever happened to me.” Bam spoke with a grin, looking at his fiancée in the light of the setting sun.
“Me too Bam.” Ville replied with a happy sigh, before looking back, out over the city. “To me too.”
