Chapter 21
“I have a bad feeling, Richard.”
Till stood by the window and looked outside at the raindrops that kept falling on the windowpane. The whole day had been gloomy. Gray clouds ran over the pale autumn sky and the wind blew away the last leafs of the trees.
Richard walked toward him and embraced his waist from behind. He buried his face between Till’s shoulder blades and inhaled deeply.
“You smell so good,” he whispered and his lips touched soft Till’s shoulder.
“And you change the subject like always, my heart,” Till sighed, took Richard’s hands in his and turned to face him. For few seconds, the two men gazed in each other’s eyes.
“If we stay together, nothing can happen. You’re safe here, Till. Trust me.” Richard took his face in his palms and kissed him gently on the lips. “Come. Let’s go to Chris and Paul. None of the guests is here now. We have enough time.”
Till nodded. “Ok, I’m just seeing ghosts. Let’s go.”
Richard smiled lewdly.
“You look stunning,” he said. “I’ll have to watch over you,” he added and kissed shortly Till’s lips.
He took Till’s hand and made him follow him out of the room.
“You look sexy. I could eat you,” Richard whispered as he turned to close the door behind them.
“Oh, nice! I want to look serious, not sexy,” Till mumbled.
“You look serious, honestly.” Richard tried very hard to remain serious. Till looked godly.
“You’re making fun of me.” Laughing he pulled Richard to him and their lips found each other in a kiss.
“I’d never try to make fun of you,” Richard whispered breathless, then they detached from each other and he kissed his forehead.
They could hear the noise of conversation and loud laughter coming from downstairs. Richard walked to the balustrade and he looked down, curious.
“They must have started already,” he murmured. “Come, let’s get to the dining room. Just get over the presentation formalities and get the hell away from there.”
Richard smiled and went back to Till; he stopped in front of him and put his hands on his shoulders.
“I want to be alone with you,” he whispered in Till’s ear, his lips caressing his skin. “When I see you or touch you, I only want one thing, my treasure. To fuck you till you can’t sit anymore.”
“You pervert!”
Till closed his eyes and inhaled the scent of Richard’s hair. It smelled sweet. Vanilla. He surely used a shampoo with vanilla scent. “And you smell like pudding…”
“Pudding? I’m hard like wood!” Richard laughed softly and took Till’s hand and placed it on the bulge that was already showing through his pants.
“You can never get enough, can’t you?” Till whispered in his ear, while his hand caressed Richard’s erection through the fabric of his pants. Richard moaned and kissed Till roughly. “Ouch! And violent too! You belong behind bars!” Till took a step back and that earned him a frustrated gaze from those eyes blue like the sky. “If we don’t behave, your parents will eat without us and they will throw me out without thinking twice. I have a bad influence on you.”
“Ok, for the time being you will be spared, Prince Charming. But later… In my fairy tale, you will scream my name and beg me. You will…”
“Richard, I will do anything you want, but not now and not here. Let’s go now.” Till put an end to the conversation, then he took Richard’s hand and pulled him to the stairs.
The two men got in the large salon where guests and hosts were enjoying their cocktails.
Richard saw his father signaling him.
“Come,” he whispered to Till and then walked to his father to greet him.
Richard introduced Till to his father; while he seemed genuinely happy to see his son, the older man displayed benevolence and some sort of polite friendliness toward Till. Then he returned to his previous conversations.
Then, Till heard Richard saying: “Come here. I want to introduce you to the most beautiful woman in the world.”
He pulled Till from the small group of men around his father and maneuvered him toward a small table that stood a bit aside. There was this middle-aged woman that soon Till learned that was Richard’s mother. She manifested more warmth toward Richard and his new lover.
Till could sense everyone’s glare upon him; everyone seemed engaged in all sorts of conversations and not paying attention to what was going own around, especially to him, Till. But he felt as if the moment he turned, those that he couldn’t see were watching him, staring and scanning each millimeter of his being with those glances that pierced through to him. Even so, Till realized that he was accepted there, in that family, even if it was only because of Richard.
While Richard was chattering on a very cheerful tone, Till turned his head looking around the room. At one moment he spotted Christoph as he entered; he seemed to be in a hurry, as his face expressed deep concern and worrisome.
Till squeezed Richard’s arm: “Your brother is here,” he whispered as he nodded to greet Christoph.
Richard turned to face his brother that was rushing toward him. The moment he saw him, Richard sensed that something was terribly wrong. Christoph got near him and grabbed his shoulder.
“Take him and get out of here, now!” He whispered fervently. “That guest of our father I was telling you about…”
“Till, I was so worried about you!” These words cut off Christoph attempt of warning. “How can you disappear on your old father like that?”
For few seconds Richard didn’t even dare to turn, hoping, wishing that it were only his imagination playing tricks on him. He felt droplets of icy-cold sweat running down his spine. Finally he turned and his gaze met those metallic sharp, blue eyes.
Richard grabbed Till’s arm, as if he needed support so he wouldn’t fall.
Till was calm. Too calm, actually. He looked his father in the eyes with a stern glare. He never thought he was safe here. He knew his father. He knew his friends. His connections. There was no place on earth where he could hide from this man.
Richard stepped in front of him, protectively, but Till pushed him aside, gently. It was all too late. Now the only thing was not to involve Richard and his family into this dirty business.
“Have you taken your medication? I will take you home right away. Gert will have to take care of you in the next days intensively. Right, Gert? You will do it with pleasure.” Smiling, Till’s father looked at his friend and nodded to him almost imperceptibly.
“But of course!” Gert replied. “He’ll have to stay in bed a couple of days, but I’ll watch over him. He won’t miss anything.”
Gert grabbed Till’s hand.
“I’ve told you already to never touch him again!” Richard spat through his clenched teeth, looking threateningly at Gert as if his eye could burn or even destroy this man that wanted to take away his lover.
“If you want to see your beloved alive again, you’ll stop with the drama,” Gert said on a low voice, while his face kept smiling, so the other guests wouldn’t figure what was all that about. “You will sit on this chair and not move you pretty little ass not even a millimeter.”
Richard looked around, helpless. His brother was watching the scene, but he couldn’t intervene either. Richard looked then at Till, but this one was avoiding his eyes. Next, he looked at Till’s father; the father was smiling too, confident that things will work out in his way. Then, he looked again at Gert. The older man pointed to the chair with a short movement of the head. Richard clenched his jaws, but he obeyed.
“Good,” said Gert. “And now you, my friend.” He came very close to Till and his fingers held Till’s hand like pliers. “The house is surrounded. Our men are everywhere,” he announced on the same low voice, but maintaining the cheerful expression on the face, while his tone sounded as if he was announcing the price rising to his stock shares. “You have now a choice. You can either be obstinate and then your pretty little lover will suffer - We will make his life hell and make him wish for death - or you come with me without attracting attention upon yourself and save the life of this family. This is your choice, Till.” It was only a whisper. No one apart from Till could hear these words. “Tell him you changed your mind. Tell him your freedom is the most important thing for you. Tell him you were mistaken.”
Till looked at Richard. For a moment their eyes met. Richard’s eyes were all fear.
“Till…” He whispered almost inaudibly, his fingers clawing the silk covering the chair.
Till only nodded slightly. And smiled. He didn’t want to attract any attention upon him. He didn’t want to cause any problem. There was enough time for problems. But not here, not now.
He had a family for a brief moment.
“Let me speak to him. I have to explain it to him,” Till said on a soundless voice.
With a nervous gesture he pushed back the strands of his fringe falling over his forehead.
“Tell him you’re bored with him,” Gert ordered laughing. “God, look at him! What does he have that I don’t?” He let go of Till’s hand and pushed him right in front of Richard.
Richard wanted to get up, but a look from Till’s father was enough to make him sit again. Till crouched near Richard’s leg. As their eyes met, Richard gulped loudly. Then he shook his head.
“No! I don’t want to hear anything,” he whispered on a chocked voice.
Till squinted at him. He wished he could touch him, at least hold him to his chest and kiss him for one last time. Instead he reached out his arm and patted Richard’s shoulder.
“It would have been better if you spread your wings and fly away from me, my angel. We’re not good for each other. There would never be peace between heaven and hell.” He whispered on a voice lacking any sort of inflexion. “I wouldn’t be happy here with you. I would feel trapped, a prisoner in a golden cage. The sex was good… But not so good to hold me here.”
He knew that he had to hurt Richard, to stick these spears through his heart, so he would want him to leave.
“Gert knows what I need.” Till added and stood up. “He is strong. He is…”
He had used all the ideas he had. He looked around the hall filled with guests, as he couldn’t look in Richard’s eyes.
“Till… what are you saying?” Richard murmured. “We love each other, remember? We want to stay together forever.” Richard let aside any care and jumped to his feet. “Oh, my God, I love you!” Richard said on the same low voice, but put his hands on Till’s shoulders and shook him.
“I have confused a moment’s passion with love.” Till replied remaining motionless, and rigid; Richard took his hands off him. “Live your life, Richard. It was nice with you.” He said looking down at Richard, as this one took his place back on the chair. Then his patted his shoulder again, like an old mate saying his good-byes.
“Nice? It was nice with me? I don’t believe you, Till. You can’t go just like this. We can fight this. We can…”
Till turned to leave, and shook his head. He walked slowly to Gert and his father who were already at the door.
