"Let me help you fly, 'cause you won't have time
To cover your eyes or get your disguise.
They won't ask you why, they'll just watch you die,
And it's still so hard to be who you are,
So you play this part and the show goes on,
But you've come this far with a broken heart,
You've come this far and you're broken."

Kelly laughed as she sat beside Carrie in the control booth, setting a cup of coffee before the sleeping country singer. Her head was resting on the control board as she slept soundly. The arouma of caffeine found it's way to her, however, and she slowly sat up, rubbing her eyes.
"You looked like you could use that," Kelly smiled, pointing to the coffee.
"Thanks," Carrie replied, taking a sip. "How are you feeling?"
"From the looks of it, a lot better than you," she teased.
"Ugh, I know," Carrie groaned, rubbing her eyes.
"What's up?"
"Nothing," she shrugged. "It's just that no matter how much sleep I've been getting, I just tire out so easily."
"That doesn't sound good," Kelly said, yawning widely.
"Look who's talking," Carrie smiled.
"Yea, but there's a difference. I'm tired because I'm stubborn and don't like to sleep. You're tired because something's wrong."
"Nothing's wrong," Carrie replied, drinking some more coffee.
"Well, why don't you get up and go for a walk or something?" Kelly suggested. "Go stretch your legs. We still have another song to go."
"You'll be ok?"
"I'm a big girl."
"Ok," Carrie nodded, standing. "And by the way, it's sounding amazing so far."
"Thanks," Kelly smiled.

Carrie stretched as she woke up on the unfamiliar couch. She pulled the warm blanket up to her chin, looking around the room, realizing that she was still at the studio. She frowned, trying to remember when she had fallen asleep. She definitely didn't remember getting a blanket. She turned onto her side, finding a note on the coffee table before her.
Carrie,
hey, just came to check on you, and you were out like a light. sorry bout the blanket, but you had goose bumps, and i didn't want you to be cold. we're having trouble with the last song--can't decide which direction we want to take it. we'll probably still be recording when you wake. there's some food in the mini fridge by the door. help yourself.
sleep well,
Kelly
Carrie sat up, looking at the clock on the wall that read 12:30. She sighed, knowing that she should've had the Texan home and in bed by now. She should've known better than to fall asleep, however she was suddenly feeling a lot more rejuvenated than she had been during the past couple days.

Carrie frowned as she walked back into the control room. Kelly was back at the microphone in the recording booth. The girl was completely dead on her feet, it was a wonder that she had anything left to still be able to sing. Her eyes were closed, not out of emotion, but out of tiredness. She seemed utterly drained.
"How much longer?" Carrie asked, turning to the producer.
"Ask her," he shrugged with a smile. "She doesn't understand that it can't get any more perfect than what it already is."
"Especially not like that," Carrie frowned, eyeing the Texan through the glass. "Do you mind?" she asked, turning back to the producer, her finger over the intercom.
"Go ahead," he motioned towards the button.
"Kell," Carrie said, watching as Kelly's eyes opened and gazed back at her cloudily. "Yea, we're done here," she nodded to the producer.
"Care, we almost got it, I swear," Kelly replied.
"Just come in here for a sec, ok?"
Kelly nodded obediently before walking into the control room.
"Kelly," Carrie frowned as her fellow Idol collapsed into the empty chair. "He said that it's ready."
"I know," she replied. "I just want to make sure."
"You aren't doing yourself or the song any good right now, you know that, right? Trying to sing like you are isn't gonna do it justice."
Kelly's eyes fell to the floor, "Yea, you're right."
"Alright, so let's get you home, ok?"
"Ok," Kelly nodded, allowing Carrie to help her out of the chair.
The producer mouthed a 'thank you' to the country singer as she helped Kelly out of the studio.

"Hey, why don't you go wait at the front?" Carrie suggested. "We parked way in the back, so I'll just come pull the car around."
"Care, you don't have to do that. I'll just come with you," Kelly rubbed her eyes.
"No, don't worry about it. I'll have one of the guys wait with you, ok?"
"Alright," she nodded, not wanting to argue as Carrie signaled for one of the interns to come over. She asked if he would wait with Kelly, to which he gladly obliged.
"Ok," Carrie smiled at the Texan. "I'll be right up there."
Kelly nodded, following the young man to the front door. As soon as he opened it for her, flashes started going off as Kelly heard her name being called excitedly. She could tell by the high pitch of their voices that they weren't paparazzi, but merely overeager fans.
"Back up please!" her escort ordered to the people gathered before turning to Kelly. "Do you want to wait inside?"
"It's fine," Kelly shook her head, holding her hand out for the first thing to sign. She gave her best smile as more flashes went off as she tried to acknowledge each of the fans that were there. She felt that it was the least that she could do for them, after they had waited hours for her to exit the studio.
Kelly finally noticed Carrie's car pulling up behind the small crowd that had formed. The Texan raised her hand, waving it so that Carrie knew she was there. Carrie frowned at the small hand that was waving over the crowd. She couldn't tell if it was a wave for help or just acknowledgement. Carrie pulled out her cell phone.
Kelly felt her phone vibrating in her pocket, and she pulled it out, smiling at the name as she answered, "Hey."
"Problems?" Carrie laughed.
"Sorry guys," Kelly apologized to the fans. "But I've really got to take this. Important business stuff. Thank you so much for hanging out though."
She was followed by an echo of good bye's and thank you's as the crowd split for her, allowing her to get into the car. She sighed deeply, hanging up her phone, as Carrie pulled them out of the parking lot.
"I am so sorry about that," Carrie said, eyeing the tired Texan worriedly. "I didn't think anybody would be out there. If I knew, I'd have just pulled up to the back."
"It's fine," Kelly waved her off. "I'm glad I got to talk to them. They must have been waiting out there forever."
"Yea, but you really look like you could've done without that right about now."
Kelly's only response was the sound of her soft breathing. Carrie turned to find her sound asleep. She shook her head, knowing she had broken her promise to Jason. But she didn't know how to get it through the stubborn girl's head that she wasn't supergirl--she couldn't do it all.
