Carrie couldn't help but laugh at the look of determination on Kelly's face as they sat on her queen-sized bed, playing cards, talking about school and whatever else popped into their heads.
"So, you're a virgin?" Carrie asked, dealing out another hand.
Kelly nearly choked on the water Carrie had given her earlier, "Excuse me?"
"Well, earlier you said you didn't want your first time to be with the Chemistry teacher which means that you haven't had your fist time...hence the virgin comment."
"Um, yea, I'm a...I'm a virgin."
Carrie nodded, picking up a card from the deck.
"Are you?"
"Um, in the original sense of the term, yea."
"Original sense?"
"Well, what actually constitutes as sex tends to vary from person to person."
"So, what exactly have you done?"
"Um, well, my last boyfriend, well, only real serious boyfriend actually, I, um, kinda went," Carrie pointed downwards before quickly adding. "It was seriously the grossest thing ever."
Kelly brought a hand up to stifle her giggle.
"And, he thought he'd return the favor, so..."
"He did the same on you?"
"Um, no," Carrie blushed. "He, uh," she wiggled her fingers.
Kelly nodded, "Did you enjoy it?"
Carrie was expecting herself to blush even more at the question, but whether it was from Kelly's blunt openness, or the innocent curiosity in her eyes, she found herself relaxing instead. "Not really, no. The first time it was just so awkward and embarrassing and flat out bad. The next couple of times, it was more bearable than anything else."
"Then why let him do it?"
"He sincerely thought I was enjoying," Carrie shrugged. "And that seemed to make him happy."
"Wow. Clueless, huh?"
"Yea," Carrie laughed softly.
"Why'd y'all breakup?"
"That stuff with my dad."
"Sorry," Kelly offered a smile.
"It's fine. At least I don't have to do that anymore."
Kelly laughed.
"Seriously, the next guy you date, tell him right off the bat that your lips are not going anywhere below his stomach."
"Was it really that bad?"
Carrie shook her head, "I really don't understand how some girl's enjoy doing that."
"How do you know they do?"
"Oh trust me, he made sure to tell me before the first time that his last girlfriend loved it. That's kinda how he got me to do it."
"Coming from the guy that thought you were enjoying what he was doing..."
"True," Carrie nodded.
"Um..." Kelly furrowed her eyebrows as she struggled to ask the question on her mind.
"What is it?" Carrie smiled.
"I don't know. It's kind of too much."
"It's ok. Go on, you can ask."
"Nah, it's ok."
"Kelly, trust me, it's fine. I mean, I never really felt comfortable around my friend's back home talking about this stuff, but with you...I really don't mind for some reason."
"You sure?"
"Well, if it's a sex question, I honestly won't be much help, but if it's about me, go ahead."
"It's about you," Kelly nodded.
"Then, go on."
"Ok, well, I was just, um, well I was just kind of wondering, you know, I was just wondering how it, um, how it felt when he..."
Carrie nodded, thinking for a moment.
"Sorry, I knew it was too personal," Kelly quickly apologized.
"No, it's fine. I was just thinking of the right way to put it," Carrie assured her. "I guess the best way to describe it was unfulfilling."
"Unfulfilling?"
"Yea, kinda like...I don't know, I mean, not only was he bad, he always stopped short."
Kelly's brow furrowed again as she bit her bottom lip.
"What is it?" Carrie urged gently, smiling again. She loved that look on Kelly's face.
"Well, I mean, wouldn't he know? Like, well, apart from the obvious screaming of the periodic table--"
Carrie laughed.
"Aren't there other signs that you're...you know, there."
"There?" Carrie teased.
"Care..." Kelly fussed, her face flushing.
"Sorry, I'm sorry," she apologized. "I'm just, this is kind of trippy for me. I'm not used to you being the quiet, nervous one. That's normally my job."
"Well, this is your area of expertise," Kelly replied cheekily.
"Hey, now, watch it, or I won't answer anymore questions."
"Sorry," Kelly grinned.
"But yea, you're right," Carrie nodded. "There are other things, but like we've already discussed, he wasn't the most observant person."
"So, um, how'd you...when he..." Kelly's cheeks were nearly crimson. "When he would....stop short...how'd you, I mean, what would you..."
"Ok, I think that's enough questions for tonight," Carrie laughed nervously, her own cheeks flushed.
"Sorry," she quickly apologized, mentally cursing herself. She had finally found someone who wouldn't laugh at her or ask why she just didn't go and find out for herself like her other friends did when she asked about stuff like this, and she'd gone and blown it.
"No, it's ok. It's just getting late, and don't you have work tomorrow?"
"Yea," Kelly nodded, still not quite meeting her eye.
"Kelly, come here," Carrie said, patting the space next to her as she leaned against the headboard.
Kelly did as she was asked, feeling her cheeks burning once again as Carrie placed an arm around her, pulling her close to her side, kissing her cheek firmly.
"Don't worry, you didn't upset me," Carrie assured her.
"I crossed the line," Kelly shook her head.
"No, you didn't. It was an innocent question. It's fine."
"I need to learn when to shut up."
"Seriously, it's ok."
"You sure?" Kelly asked, looking up at her nervously.
"Yes," Carrie smiled, suddenly finding it very hard to keep her focus anywhere but on Kelly's lips. "Let's just get some sleep, ok?" she suggested, attributing the sudden tension to their previous subject matter.
"Ok," Kelly nodded, pulling away and sliding under the covers, and turning to where her back was facing the other girl.

Carrie woke up in the middle of the night, laying very still on her back. Kelly must have turned completely over because she was now lying half on the bed and half on top of Carrie, one of her legs complete wrapped around one of the taller girl's, her face buried in her neck. Carrie let out a shaky breath as Kelly shifted slightly, her foot rubbing against Carrie's leg and her lips grazing her skin.
Carrie tried to slide away from her, but Kelly's arms tightened around her waist.
"K-Kelly?" Carrie stuttered, knowing there was no way she would be able to fall asleep in their current position. "Kelly?"
She heard Kelly groan in protest, her nose and lips pressing firmly against Carrie's neck.
Carrie bit down on her bottom lip at the sudden rush of blood at her touch, "Kelly, get up for a sec."
"No," she heard her reply.
"Kelly."
She felt the shorter girl moving against her, as she pushed herself up. She looked down at Carrie curiously, rubbing her eyes. "Mornin'," she drawled thickly.
"Um, not morning, yet," Carrie gave a nervous laugh.
Kelly started to fully wake up, looking at Carrie curiously, and at their current position before smiling sheepishly, "Ha, sorry. I'm a total clinger."
"It's ok, I was just...it was getting hot."
Kelly nodded, before untangling herself from Carrie and rolling back over to her other side, falling right back asleep.
Carrie frowned as she looked at Kelly's back, suddenly finding herself cold.

Kelly scratched the side of her head as she stood in the middle of the large kitchen, still in her pajamas. She had no clue as to where to begin to look for a box of cereal with all the cabinets that were surrounding her. She decided to start at the top since that's where they kept there's. She hopped up onto the countertop, kneeling as she scrummaged through the top cabinets.
Carole walked into her kitchen, completely caught off guard by the teenage girl digging through her possessions.
"What the hell are you doing?"
Kelly nearly fell off the countertop as she jumped, "Huh?"
"What are you doing?"
"Looking for something to eat," Kelly replied, confusedly.
"Is that so?"
"Yea, I was hungry."
"Get away from my things," Carole demanded.
"I'm sorry?"
"What's going on?" Carrie asked, rushing into the kitchen to find her mom scolding Kelly who was on the countertop. "Kell, you ok?"
"Um, yea, I was just looking for the cereal," she explained, looking at Carrie's mom nervously.
Carrie shook her head with a smile, walking to her and offering her a hand down, "My mom cooks breakfast. You don't have to worry about it."
"I was just...I didn't want to be a burden," Kelly shrugged innocently.
"It's fine," Carrie assured her.
"It is not fine," Carole replied. "I come in here to find her digging through my stuff, like some, some fiend, and you believe her story?"
"Mom, Kelly's just used to taking care of herself, that's all," Carrie replied. "Besides, she wasn't digging through your stuff. She was looking through the food. And in fact, I really don't appreciate what you're implying."
Kelly looked at the pair of them curiously, "What was she implying?"
"Nothing," Carrie shook her head, placing a hand on her back. "Why don't we go back upstairs while my mom fixes something to eat, huh?"
"Sure," Kelly nodded. "Sorry I scared you, Mrs. Underwood," she apologized as they passed her up on the way to Carrie's room.
Carrie rubbed the bridge of her nose agitatedly as she closed the door behind them.
"You ok?" Kelly asked worriedly.
"Yea, my mom...she's just a bit...ugh."
"I'm sorry about getting her upset. I really didn't mean to."
"Oh, no, Kelly, you did nothing wrong," Carrie replied as they sat on the couch in front of the television. "Seriously, don't even worry about it."
"Carrie, what was your mom implying?" Kelly asked carefully.
"Nothing," Carrie replied, looking at her apologetically. She watched as Kelly's eyes darkened. "Kelly, please don't get upset. That's just how she is."
"She thought I was stealing from y'all, didn't she?"
"I'm so sorry, really. She's just so quick about making judgements on people."
Kelly shook her head, standing up, gathering her stuff and throwing them into her bag.
"Kelly, please don't be mad."
"I'm not mad. I just...I just can't be here right now. Take me home?"
"Please don't go. Really, she didn't mean anything by it. Stay and eat."
"I can't eat here," Kelly shook her head. "I'll just walk. It's fine."
"No, wait," Carrie replied, grabbing her car keys and chasing her down stairs. "I'll bring you."
"Carrie," Carole called out as she saw her daughter fly past the kitchen, chasing her shorter friend.
"Yea?" Carrie asked, stopping quickly.
"Where are you going?"
"I'm bringing Kelly home."
"Why?"
"You know why, mom," Carrie frowned.
"What about breakfast?"
"I'll pick us up something on the way to her place," she replied before walking away, and hurrying down the driveway to her car where Kelly was already seated inside.
"Carrie, it's not you, you know that, right?" Kelly asked, softly. "I just can't be in there."
"I know," Carrie nodded in understanding as she pulled the car out of the driveway.

Carrie smiled as she watched Kelly take a big bite out of her breakfast she had picked them up at McDonald's.
"You really didn't have to pay for this," Kelly said with a mouth full of food.
"Think of it as my apology for my mom," Carrie shrugged, drinking her orange juice.
"I'll pay you back when I get a little extra cash."
"Alright," Carrie nodded, already having learned there was no use arguing with the short Texan about money.
Kelly smiled stretching as she finished her meal, "I don't think I've had that good of a breakfast in forever."
Carrie laughed, "Glad you enjoyed it."
"I'm serious about paying you back."
"I know," Carrie replied. "And I really am sorry about my mom. She was so far out of line."
"It's ok. Kids shouldn't have to apologize for their parents. Trust me on that one."
"It's just...she's a school teacher, and my dad worked in a factory, who is she to judge someone when it comes to money? She's seriously changed so much since the law suit."
"I'm sorry."
"You are the last person that needs to be apologizing right now."
"You want to come to church with me?"
"Huh?"
"You want to come to church with me this morning? I mean, I know y'all normally go to the one across town, but you said you wanted to hear me sing."
"Am I gonna have to sit by myself?"
"Nah, we have a few extra chairs in the choir loft for the members' kids and stuff."
"Alright," Carrie nodded.
"You sure?"
"Yea. Um, is it ok if we stop by my house so I can grab something to change into? You don't have to get down, and I'll only be like five minutes, I promise."
"Alright," Kelly nodded after a slight hesitation. "I'm gonna go get ready. You can watch t.v. in the living room. We don't have cable though, sorry. It's just like the basic channels."
"That's fine," Carrie replied. "The Price Is Right is totally on right now."
"Good," Kelly smiled. "Go watch you some Bob Barker. I'll be ready in a minute."
