Chapter 22: I'm Not Gonna Lose You
∞♥♥∞
It was a week before Christmas, and Chris and I were doing some last minute Christmas shopping. We were going to be spending Christmas at his house since we had spent Thanksgiving at mine. My parents had invited the Richardsons to Seattle for Thanksgiving, so we had all had Thanksgiving dinner at my parents’ place. Now Chris parents had returned the favor and invited my parents and I down to Virginia for Christmas. I was looking forward to it. I loved Chris’ family, and I thought it would be cool to actually have snow on Christmas.
My album had come out two weeks ago, and I had already promoted it to death. I got a lot in in the two weeks since the album came out. I had also promoted it before it even came out, therefore freeing up my schedule leading up to Christmas. Well, I did have one show to do on the twenty-second, but it was just some small jingle-bash thing that would have me out of there at a reasonable time that night. Chris and I were going to fly down to Virginia the morning after.
Anyway, we were currently in LA’s Glendale Galleria mall, shopping for our friends and family.
“I never know what to get my dad. Dads are so hard to shop for,” I said as I looked through some men’s shirts in Hugo Boss.
Chris shrugged. “Just get him a nice shirt and a bottle of cologne. I don’t know about you, but my father loves cologne, as does my sister’s husband.”
“That’s no too gay? Buying cologne for another man?” I asked.
Chris smirked. “For one, he is your father. It’s not gay to get your father cologne. For two, hello! Do you have a girlfriend or a boyfriend?”
I nodded. “Good point.” I began searching through the dress shirts, trying to remember what size my father wore. “So what are you getting your father?”
“I think I’m going to go with my own idea and get him a shirt and cologne. I’ll probably get him some new guitar strings too. He’s always breaking his strings lately.”
I found a nice black dress shirt. The buttons, collar and cuffs were all tan. I picked up a large and held it up to Chris. “Do you think my dad would like this?”
Chris inspected it, and then nodded. “Yes, I think that looks like something he’d wear. Why don’t you buy him a nice tie to go with it since it’s a dress shirt?”
“Do men still wear ties?”
Chris rolled his yes and smiled. “Of course they do. I’ll help you pick one out.”
We headed over to the tie section, and glanced at the ties.
“How about this one?” I held up a brown tie.
Chris made a face and shook his head. “That’s the wrong shade of brown. Here. This one will look nice.” He held up a black silk tie with pinstripes on it. “This will look classy.”
I nodded. “Whatever you say. I’ve never been good at picking things out.”
Chris saw a bottle of Hugo Boss for men nearby, and sniffed it. “Mm, and this can be the cologne you get him. It smells nice. I think I’ll get a bottle for my dad too. He handed me the bottle, and I sniffed it.
I looked up at him and smile. “That does smell good.”
He grinned. “See? I told you.”
I suddenly got an idea. “You know, my dad has been wanting a new watch. How about we get him a watch and all of this can be from us? I’m assuming you wanted to get my parents something too, right? I want to get your parents something, so maybe we can just get them more things and go in on the gifts together.”
He grinned and nodded. “Yeah! All right. That sounds like a plan.”
I grinned too, and we headed to pay for the shirt, tie, and cologne bottles. I liked shopping with Chris.

“Well, we got your dad taken care of. Now we’re on to mine,” I said after we purchased the gold watch for Dallas. Since we were there, I decided to buy my dad a white gold watch. “We already got the cologne and watch. We need the guitar strings now. I want to get him a cool Lynyrd Skynyrd shirt or something too.”
He nodded “Sounds good.”
“So, what do you want for Christmas?” I smiled at Blake.
He grinned. “You naked with nothing but a red bow tied around your cock.”
“Sh!” I looked around, hoping no one heard him. I laughed, feeling free to now that I was sure no one seemed to have overheard him.
He playfully backhanded my arm. “Chillax! You know I wouldn’t say anything like that if I thought anyone was going to hear.”
I looked at the mall directory, and saw that the mall didn’t seem to have a store that would sell guitar strings, nor did it have a Spencer’s. I was hoping for a Spencer’s so that I could get my dad’s shirt there.
“We can just go to another mall,” Blake said. “Who would we shop for next?”
“I don’t know. Let’s shop for our moms I guess.”
We headed down to find a good shop to buy our mothers’ presents.
Blake moved closer to me. “So, can I count on that present I requested?”
I blushed. “I want to get you something tangible.”
He smirked. “That is tangible.”
“It’s not something I can give you in front of our parents,” I said.
He laughed. “That would be an unforgettable Christmas, that’s for sure. Really though, you don’t have to get me anything.”
“You’re my boyfriend. Of course I’m going to buy you something,” I said.
“Just as I’m going to buy you something. Let’s just surprise each other. I like it better that way.” He rubbed my back for the briefest of moments.
I smiled. “All right.”
“I think moms are just as hard to shop for as dads are. Should we get them some perfume and jewelry?” Blake asked.
I nodded. “That sounds like a good idea. We should get them something else too since we got our fathers four things. Actually, maybe I should get my father two band T-shirts since we got your dad four things.”
“We can go to the other mall when we’re done shopping here,” Blake said. “As for another present for our moms, how about a diamond tennis bracelet and either a nice necklace or some earrings to go with it?”
I smiled. “Who says you can’t pick out stuff? That’s a good idea I was thinking we could also get them a gift certificate to the spa. Your parents aren’t going back home until the twenty-seventh, right?”
Blake nodded.
“We can pay for our mothers to go to the spa together on the twenty-sixth. I’ll call and make the reservation now.” I glanced at my watch. “They should still be open. It’s only six their time.”
Blake nodded. “You can call information and get the number. I have to pee while you’re doing that.”
“Charming,” I said.
He grinned. “Aren’t I though?”
I rolled my eyes and smiled.
We then made our way to the restrooms so that I cold make the calls I needed to, and so Blake could...well, pee.

Two hours later, I had peed, Chris had gotten the number for the closest spa near his house and made the reservation for two, we had bought our mother’s jewelry, and finally, we had bought gifts for our closest friends.
“It’s a good thing we only brought presents for our closest friends. We’d go broke otherwise,” Chris said.
“Still, we have a lot of close friends,” I said.
Chris nodded. “Word.”
I laughed. “First ‘true that’ and now ‘word’? You aren’t black, babe. You’re white.”
Chris playfully pushed me. “Shut up! You’re the king of talking like you’re from the ghetto.”
I rolled my eyes. “Whatever.”
“Well, now the only ones we have to shop for are my sister, her husband, and my nephew and niece,” he said.
“Let’s eat first, then we can finish shopping. I’m starved,” I said.
He nodded. “Me too. I’m so hungry it hurts.”
“We can’t have that now, can we?” I asked, gently rubbing Chris’ stomach.
He smiled at me. “People are going to start to suspect again.”
“Ah, they do anyway,” I said with a shrug, releasing my hand from his stomach as we entered The Red Robin.
We got seated and ordered our drinks. We then looked over our menus.
“Don’t forget we still have to go to the other mall to get the rest of your father’s present,” I said.
He nodded. “I can hardly wait to get all our Christmas shopping done and can just enjoy Christmas with our families.”
“I hear ya,” I agreed.
The waitress came, and we ordered our meals. When the waiter left, Chris spoke again.
“You know, I’m thinking we should get Morgan and Jackson bears from Build-a-Bear, and we can get them a mall gift certificate too. I’ll just get the certificates when we get back home.”
I nodded. “That sounds fine. I’m tired of shopping too. Let’s try to get this finished as soon as possible.”
“At least we got our top ten friends great gifts. I think they’ll like them. I just hope Phil, Sanjaya, and Sligh don’t find them too girly.”
I shook my head. “We don’t, so they won’t—especially not Sanjaya.”
He nodded. “Yeah, but we’re the gay ones, remember?”
I laughed. “True, but they will like them. Trust me.” We had gotten the guys gold ID bracelets with their names engraved on the outside and American Idol Season 6 engraved on the inside. We got the same thing for the girls, only their bracelets were silver.
“I’m so glad you and your family are going to be spending Christmas with me and my family at my home. It really means a lot to me that we can have time together with both of our families like this. I love you so much, Blake, and I love your family. It makes me happy that we can all be together to celebrate Christmas like this. I love your family like my own,” he suddenly said quietly.
I smiled at him, placing my hand overtop of his. “I love your family like my own too. I’m also happy to be spending Christmas with you and your family. I would miss you terribly, if you weren’t with me. You know, my Christmas would be spent talking to you on the phone the whole time if you weren’t there.”
He placed his other hand on top of mine. “Well then I guess it’s a good thing that you and I are going to be together, isn’t it?”
I nodded. “Indeed it is.”
We released our hands from each other’s and sat back in our seats to discuss what to get the remaining people on our list.
Somehow, Christmas shopping somehow didn’t seem so bad anymore, now that I was reminded of what Christmas Day would bring.

“You know, you could get your sister some lingerie,” Blake commented as we passed by Victoria’s Secret after dinner.
I made face, and gently pushed him. “You’re disgusting!”
He laughed. “It was only a suggestion.”
“Yuck! Getting my sister something for the bedroom is just wrong.” I shook the thought from my head.
He smirked. "Sorry, baby. I was just trying to help. It’s not like I suggested buying your mom lingerie.”
“Blake! Yuck! Buy your mom lingerie,” I said.
Blake scrunched his nose and stuck out his tongue. “Blah!”
We both laughed.
“Okay, lingerie is out of the question. Though, I think you’d look sexy in some.” He wriggled his eyebrows up and down.
I laughed. “Maybe some men’s lingerie.”
“Is that a promise?” He looked up at me with his big brown eyes.
“If you get some too.”
“All right, but Victoria’s Secret isn’t going to do.”
“Duh!” I said, playfully pushing him again.
We grinned at each other and headed into the Build-a-Bear Workshop.

“I’ve never seen so many stuffed animals in my life! Except, these aren’t stuffed; they’re limp. That’s never good.” I grinned at Chris, a limp alligator in my hands.
He rolled his eyes and smirked. “You pick out the one you want, and they stuff it for you.”
“Well that’s no fun!” I put the alligator back in its bin. “Why don’t they let you stuff them yourself?”
Chris shrugged. “I guess they are afraid the kids will make a mess.”
“So, which one of these do you want to get?” I asked, looking at the rows and rows of bears and other animals.
“Well, Morgan loves dogs, so maybe I’ll get her a dog. Jackson likes anything. I could just stick to a bear for him. I don’t know. Let’s see what they have.” Chris began walking down the aisles in search of the perfect animal.
“How about a dinosaur?” I asked, picking up a green triceratops. “He’s kind of cute.” I moved him back and forth, trying to make it tool like he was dancing.
Chris smiled at the dinosaur, and picked it up. “Yeah, all right. He’d probably like this. It’s cute! Now I just need to find the right dog for Morgan.”
While Chris was looking for a dog (they all looked the same to me), I decided to look at the other animals they had. I grinned when I found a moose and a turtle, and I turned to Chris, who was looking at a tan-colored dog with a brown patch over his eye. “Hey, Chris! Look!”
When he glanced over, I started making the moose do the turtle from behind.
He blushed a bright shade of red. “Blake, stop that! This is a children’s store, for cryin’ our loud.”
“Please! All ages shop here.” I set the animals down anyway. “Besides, I bet most of the kids in here know exactly what sex is.”
Chris walked over to me with the brown patch dog. “You’re insane.” His grin gave away his serious manner.
I grinned too. “You love me for it, and you know it.”
He sighed. “God help me, I do. How’s this one? Isn’t he cute?” He made the dog dance in front of me, like I had done with dinosaur earlier.
“Sure. Are you going to get them an outfit? We can’t be giving your niece and nephew naked animals now.” I smirked and winked at him.
He smirked too. “Sure.” He nodded towards the clothes. “Come on. Help me pick something out.”
I sighed, and followed him to the clothing section. “I can’t believe I’m going clothes shopping for a stuffed animal,” I said.
“It was your idea,” Chris quipped.
I sighed again. “Sad, but true.”

As embarrassing as Blake’s little moose and turtle display was, I had to admit, it was funny. Though, I would only ever admit it to myself. I was not about to lead onto Blake that I found it funny. The last thing that boy needed was some more ammo. Even so, it made me happy to shop with him. I never had as good of a time shopping as I did with Blake. He was constantly making me laugh. I swear I loved him more and more with every passing day.
We found some cute outfits for the animals. I was sure that both Morgan and Jackson would love both their animal and the outfits we chose for them.
We were on our way to get the animals stuffed when I saw two of the cutest outfits. There was a T-shirt that said Virginia is for Lovers, and there was also a tuxedo.
“Blake, wouldn’t Tommy look adorable in these?” I picked up both and held them up.
Blake rolled his eyes. “Your dog is way too fat to fit into either of those. These are meant for stuffed bears—not a dog who eats ten times a day.”
I laughed. “Shut up! He does not eat that much.” I sighed. “I guess you’re right though.” I reluctantly set the outfits back down.
“Do you want to get a voice box to put into these?” he held up the limp animals, and nodded to a little crate filled with voice boxes. There were buttons you could press to hear the different sayings.
I smiled. “Sure. That would be cute.”
We headed over to the crate, and started pressing the buttons, hearing all the cute little sayings. Build-A-Bear was a really cute store. I wondered why I hadn’t gone in there more often. Blake was right—it was for all ages.
“How about one that says I love you?” he suggested.
I nodded. “That’s what I was thinking. We’ll get that for both,” I agreed.
We then got in line to get the bears stuffed. I was actually looking forward to this part. It was going to be fun! So what if I was twenty-five? It was still fun.

“Do you want a heart in this?” the stuffer asked me.
I glanced at Chris, who had just said yes to a heart for the dog. I then turned back to the stuffer and nodded.
She let me pick out a heart, and she put it in the dinosaur.
“Can I stuff it myself?” I asked with a grin.
The stuffer smiled. “Well, normally, we’re supposed to do it ourselves, but sure. Go ahead.”
I grinned. “Thank you!”
She attached the bear to the hole that the stuffing came out of, and she allowed me to hold it there while I stepped on the stuffing pedal. I had to admit it was kind of cool seeing the dinosaur fill up like that,
When I finished, she moved the stuffing around, making sure the dinosaur was stuffed well enough. She then sewed the dinosaur up, and then handed him to me. “Give him a kiss and hug him!”
I made a face. “Say what?”
It’s a tradition here to share your love with your new friend,” she said with a wink.
I looked over to Chris, expecting to see him protesting to this, but instead, I saw him hugging the dog and kissing it, a big smile displayed on his face.
I smiled. He was so adorable. One of the things I loved best about him was his childlike heart. He was so good hearted. He saw the good in everybody. Since Chris was being so good about it, I decided to be as well. I hugged and kissed the dinosaur, which seemed to please the stuffer.
Both animals were done then, and Chris and I headed over to the computers to make and print out the birth certificates.
“I’ll name the dog, and you name the dinosaur,” Chris said.
“This is so stupid,” I said with a laugh. I knew we had to name them though. The birth certificate required it.
I thought about it for a moment. I finally decided upon Tres. It was Spanish for three, and the dinosaur had three horns. I gave him Jackson’s last name, and listed Jackson as the parent.
“That’s cute,” Chris said when he saw what I had named it, and I had explained why I named it that.
“What did you name yours?” I asked,
He grinned. “Patch. I know it’s not that creative, but it just seemed to fit him.”
I smiled. “It’s a cute name.”
We checked out our purchases, and got the cute little carrying cases. I was embarrassed to be carrying mine, but Chris proudly held his, smiling brightly.
I suddenly felt this weird sensation in my heart. I loved him so much it hurt, and I really couldn’t imagine life without him. I had known him for three years now, and it was like a switch had suddenly gone off in my head. I knew what I wanted in life. I wanted Chris—for the rest of my life and beyond. It was then that it sank in what I was going to get him for Christmas. I was going to propose to him. It was what I wanted, and there was not a doubt in my mind.
“Do you just want to finish shopping tomorrow? I’m kind of tired.”
I broke from my thoughts and smiled at Chris. “Of course, baby. I’m kind of getting tired too.”
He smiled, and quickly gave me a side hug. “Thank you.”
“Anything for you,” I said, meaning it full-heartedly.
Yes, I was sure of it. Come Christmas, I was going to ask Chris to marry me. I grinned at the thought. I could hardy wait!
B∞C
“Thank you for helping me pick out the gifts today. I especially am grateful that you helped me pick out the stuffed animals. I know you don’t like being seen in a store like that.” I grinned at Blake.
He climbed into bed next to me, and held me tight. “I didn’t mind. I was with you, and that’s all that matters.”
I kissed him, and he pulled me closer, hungrily kissing me back.
“I love you,” I said when we broke the kiss.
“I love you too. You have no idea how much I love you,” he said, going in or another kiss.
I moaned, and gladly accepted his kiss.
When we broke it, I smiled. “Since you think I have no idea how much you love me, do you care to show me how much you love me?
He grinned. “I thought you were tired.”
I shrugged. “I’m never too tired for you.”
He smiled, and gently stroked my cheek. “I’ll remember that.” He leaned over and turned the lights off, and then he got on top of me, kissing me passionately.
I moaned as he began to show me exactly how much he loved me.
As we made love, it hit me like a ton of bricks exactly how much I loved Blake. It was at that moment that I knew what I was going to get Blake for Christmas. I was going to get him an engagement ring. Yes, I was going to propose to him. I never wanted to spend my life without him. Ever since the day he and I had met, I had been a much happier person. I knew it was all because of Blake. There was no way I was ever going to stop loving Blake. There was also no way that I was ever going to let him go. It was settled then. I was going to ask Blake Lewis to marry me, and nothing was going to stop me.
