"But nothing's greater
Than the rush that comes with your embrace
And in this world of loneliness
I see your face."

"Kelly," Carrie nudged her gently, causing her to stir. "We're at your place."
The Texan stretched, waiting for her eyes to focus as she looked around, noticing that they were parked in her Nashville home's driveway. She glanced at the time on the dashboard that read 1:15.
"You're staying here," Kelly informed her tiredly as she struggled to undo her seat belt.
"I am?"
"You shouldn't be driving by yourself this late. Especially since you've been up for over twenty-four hours now because of me."
"You've been up longer than I have," Carrie pointed out.
"That's not saying much," she yawned. "Come on. We have plenty of room. Besides, this way, you can tell Jason that you kept your promise, and you made me sleep."
"I don't think crawling into bed this early in the morning was what he had in mind," Carrie frowned as they got out of the car and walked to the door. Kelly struggled with the keys, and Carrie took them from her, unlocking the door.
"Welcome to Clarkson a la Nashville," Kelly said, motioning around her. "I'll give you the tour tomorrow morning."
Carrie nodded, following her into the house.
"Here we are," Kelly said, turning on the lights as they entered her bed room. "It's nothing fancy," she commented. "But we haven't lived here long, and I haven't had time to really decorate."
"It's fine," Carrie nodded as Kelly handed her some clothes to sleep in and pointed her towards the bathroom.
"You can go change in there."
Carrie nodded, walking out of the room. Kelly put on her pajamas before crawling into bed. Carrie emerged from the bathroom not long after.
"Come on," Kelly said, patting the space next to her.
Carrie laughed softly at her, "You want me to get the lights."
"Yea, I mean, unless you're scared of the dark," Kelly smiled, her eyes struggling to stay open.
Carrie turned off the lights, feeling her way to the bed and climbing in.
"Hey," she heard Kelly's raspy drawl in the dark as she waited for her eyes to adjust.
"Hey," Carrie replied, scooting closer, following the voice. She could feel the Texan's breath on her face, and she bit her bottom lip.
"You know I'm a big girl, right?" Kelly asked.
"Yea," Carrie nodded.
"And that I can take care of myself?"
"Yea," she nodded again.
"Alright," Kelly replied. "Well, then thanks for looking after me, anyway."
"Anytime," Carrie smiled, lifting her arm as she felt Kelly moving closer. She wrapped her arm around the shorter singer as she yawned for the hundredth time that night. "Please, try and sleep."
"Ok," Kelly nodded, snuggling into the warm body in front of her, unable to think of a single reason to go against the calming voice in her ear.

"Nothing's alright, nothing is fine
I'm running and I'm crying
I never realized I was spread too thin
Till it was too late and I was empty within."

Carrie could feel Kelly moving in her arms, stretching back towards the table. She heard something that sounded like a phone being flipped open.
"What are you doing?" Carrie asked, her eyes still closed.
"Nothing," Kelly quickly replied, like a kid caught with her hand in the cookie jar.
"What time is it?"
"Seven-thirty."
Carrie opened her eyes, frowning at the Texan, "Give it to me."
"Give what?" she asked innocently.
Carrie struggled not to smile at the wide hazel eyes staring back at her, "Give me the phone."
"I was just checking something."
Carrie reached out, taking Kelly's hand that was holding the phone and wrestled it away from her.
"Hey, that could be important," Kelly fussed.
"Too bad," Carrie said, tossing it over her shoulder and pulling the original Idol back to her. "Go back to sleep."
"One text?" Kelly asked, looking up at her.
Carrie's breath caught in her throat as she noticed how close Kelly's face was to hers. She could only shake her head.
Kelly wasn't sure why, but she felt her face flush at the look in Carrie's eyes. She subconsciously licked her lips.
"G-go to sleep," Carrie managed.
Kelly pouted, but did as she was told, snuggling back into the country singer's warm body.

Carrie woke up with a pillow in her arms. She all but growled as she looked at the clock that read 9:15.
"Kelly!" she called out, pushing the blankets off of her as she climbed out of bed. She paused as she exited the room, realizing that she had no idea where anything was in this place. "Kelly!"
"In here!" she heard the Texan call back. She followed the southern drawl into a kitchen.
"Slept good?" Kelly smiled, putting a couple of waffles into the toaster.
"You should still be in bed," Carrie frowned.
"Care, I'm fine. I slept great, thanks to you."
"You sure?"
"Positive," Kelly nodded, pouring them some juice. "So, are you doing anything this morning?"
"Not unless my schedule's changed, why?"
"I was planning on going to the hospital. I promised I'd visit as soon as I got back."
"Why don't you just relax at home this morning. We can go in the afternoon," Carrie suggested, studying her face closely as she sat next to her. Last night's rest seemed to have helped some, but her eyes were still completely exhausted.
"Because I'm going back to the studio this afternoon," Kelly replied, moving quickly away from her as the waffles popped up.
"Kelly..." Carrie sighed. "He said that it was perfect. I listened to it, and it is perfect. Besides, I thought the producer was going out of town?"
"Yea, but that's ok. It's just one little thing on the vocals."
Carrie shook her head, "You have got to stop pushing yourself so hard. It's not good for you."
"You've known me for how long, and you already know what's good for me?" Kelly asked, an edge growing in her voice
"I'm just worried--"
"There's nothing to be worried about," she snapped.
"Well, if your brother, whom I never even met, calls and asks me, a complete stranger, to take care of you, then yea, I'd say it's something to worry about," Carrie retorted as she stood.
Kelly's voice immediately softened as her eyes fell to the floor, "You don't have to...I don't want you to worry."
"Kelly, what's wrong?" Carrie asked desperately as she walked to the shorter girl. She carefully placed her hands on Kelly's arms.
"It's nothing," Kelly mumbled. "I just...I have a lot of stuff to do, you know?"
"I know," Carrie nodded. "Believe me, I probably know better than anyone else, but that doesn't mean you have to run yourself ragged to get it done. There's a way to go about things. I don't like seeing you like this, ok?"
Kelly bit down hard on her bottom lip.
"And you're right--I haven't known you long enough to make assumptions, but I have known you long enough to become spoiled by that spark that's always in your eyes. The one that I haven't seen since you left to go home. I kinda miss it," she smiled softly. "Kell, please look at me."
Kelly raised her chin, looking Carrie in the eyes.
"I need to get this song done," Kelly pleaded, her eyes watering.
Carrie sighed as she nodded, pulling the Texan into a hug, "Alright. I'll even go with you if you want."
