Chapter 23: He's All I Want, Just for Me
∞♥♥∞
I knew exactly what I wanted to do for the ring. I remembered back when Chris had gotten voted off, and then was finally able to come back for the show’s finale. He had told me of a dream he had where I proposed to him, giving him a ring that was just like my grandfather’s ring that I always wore. In his dream, I had given it to him to show that we were associated with each other because we both wore a black ring. In reality, the thought was kind of cheesy to me, but at the same time, I guess it was romantic. Anyway, I knew it would mean a lot to him if I were to give him a ring like the one in his dream. I just hoped he remembered that dream; otherwise I would just end up looking like a sappy dork. Chances were though, if I remembered the dream, he would too. After all, it was his dream.
Anyhow, I went to the mall by myself one day when Chris was off at some last minute meeting with the casting director of Medium. I was glad that he was busy. It saved me from having to make up and excuse for him not to join me.
I headed to the mall intent on getting the ring. I just hoped I could find one that looked enough like my grandfather’s ring. I knew I could have just given him my grandfather’s ring, but then I’d have to have it resized, and I’d never be able to wear it again. It was close to my heart, and I just didn’t want to give it up. Besides, in Chris’ dream, I kept the ring. I wasn’t going to go against that. I headed to the jewelers, hoping that I could find the perfect ring. After all, Chris deserved perfection.

I was really excited about this. It looked like I was going to be on Medium for two episodes. It would be a two-parter. I was looking forward to it. It would get me out there in the media some more. I wanted to work on another album that would hopefully be more popular than my first one had been, and I was hoping that being on the show would give me that extra boost I needed to get me the bigger fanbase I needed.
I spent about an hour in the meeting, and then I was free to go. I headed home, thinking that Blake and I could go out to lunch together, but he wasn’t home. I tried calling him, wondering where he could be. He picked up on the second ring, sounding in good spirits.
“Hey, baby. How did the meeting go?”
I grinned. “Good. I am going to be on the show for two episodes, I think. Nothing is set in stone yet, but it’s looking really good.”
“Awesome! I’m happy for you, baby. What a great Christmas present, right?”
“Exactly.”
“So, do you want to meet up for lunch to celebrate? It will be my treat.”
“Yes! Actually, I was calling you to see if you wanted to get lunch, so that’s perfect. Where do you want to meet?”
“You pick. It’s your celebration.”
I thought about it for a moment. I needed to buy Blake’s ring, as well as something else that I had in mind for the proposal. “How about the mall? I have to get a couple last minute things there. We can eat at one of the restaurants there. Just give me ten minutes to get there, and then fifteen more so that I can get what I need to get.”
“What do you need to get?”
“Something you don’t need to know about until Christmas.”
“So you’re shopping for me?”
I smiled. I knew Blake was smiling big on the other end of the line. I could tell by the tone of his voice. “I might be.”
“What is it?”
“I’ll meet you by the main doors of the mall in twenty-five to thirty minutes, baby.”
“Oh, fine.”
“Stop pouting.”
“How did you know?”
I smirked. “I know you, Lewis. See you in a half hour.” I clocked the off button, smiling and shaking my head at the phone. I then set it back on the base, and headed out to the mall.
B∞C
I found the perfect ring. It was an oval onyx that was mainly black with just a hint of amber in it. It was beautiful. The setting was a yellow gold setting. It was about three hundred dollars after tax, but f it made Chris happy, it would be worth it to me. They even had it in Chris’ size, meaning I didn’t have to send away for it. It was fate. I bought the ring and was just walking away from the jewelry store when Chris called, wanting to meet up for lunch. We were to meet in about a half hour, so it gave me time to head back to our place and hide the ring. I didn’t want him to see it and know I was going to propose to him before I even got the chance to! So I headed back to the house to hide the ring. I would return to the mall after that, and Chris would have no idea that I had been at the mall previously, buying his engagement ring. I could hardly wait to see the look on his face when I gave him the ring. I just hoped he said yes.
B∞C
When I got to the mall, I headed straight for the jewelry store. I honestly had no idea what kind of ring I was going to get him. I didn’t want to get one that looked too girly, and yet, I wanted it to be special. I wanted it to look like an engagement ring; not just some casual men’s ring.
“Is there anything I can help you with?”
I looked at the employee’s name tag. Tom. I smiled, thinking how he sort of had the same name as my dog; just a shorter version of the name. “Hi, Tom. Yes, I was looking for a nice ring for a man. I don’t want it to look too girly, but I want it to be special; not just some average ring, you know?” I left out the engagement part. I didn’t know Tom, and for all I knew, he could head straight to the media about it.
“What size are you looking for?”
I told him Blake’s size, and he headed over to the right section. “Is there any particular jewel you would like? Do you like gold or silver?”
I knew Blake liked either. “It doesn’t matter. Either will do. Any jewel will do too; just nothing pink.”
Tom laughed. “Don’t worry. We seldom get any pink jewels in the men’s section.” He winked. “How about these? Do any of these look good to you?”
I looked over the rings he had on display. There were some nice ruby rings. The blue sapphires were nice too. Then there were the emeralds and the yellow topazes.
“What is your birth stone? You could get a birth stone ring.”
I looked at Tom and smiled, a small blush on my face. “Actually, it’s not for me. It’s for my...friend.”
“Ah.” Tom smiled, seemingly knowingly. I could have kicked myself for hesitating before calling Blake my friend.
“He was born in July. I’m not sure that that stone is,” I said, still blushing.
“That would be the ruby. Any one of these would be a nice gift for someone.” Tom motioned over the ruby section.
I looked over the rings. Come to think of it, a ruby would look nice on Blake, and it wouldn’t be too girly either. A birthstone would be cool. There were a few rings that were pretty. I just didn’t want to pick anything out that looked too girly. At last, my eyes fell upon a white gold ring with a big square-cut ruby in the center. It was lined by three circular diamonds on both sides. “Is it al real?” I asked, looking up at Tom. I felt like a dork the instant I asked.
Tom chuckled. “Yes, that one is. We also have a simulated version for much cheaper, but the one you are looking at is indeed completely real.”
“I’ll take it.” It was perfect. It didn’t look too girly, yet it was nice enough to be an engagement ring.
“We have it in his size, so you I won’t have to order it. If you want it engraved, it will take a couple days though. We’re backed up with the Christmas rush,” Tom said, taking the ring from its case.
I shook my head. “No, I need to give it to him on Christmas. I can always bring it back later and get it engraved if I want, right?”
He nodded and smiled. “Of course.”
I grinned.
He wrapped it up and then tallied it up. It was four hundred dollars, but I didn’t mind. Blake was worth it.
After I paid for the ring, and Tom handed it to me, I thanked him, and then headed to my last stop. I had one more thing to get, and then I would lock the gifts up safely in my trunk before meeting Blake. I really hoped he liked my proposal and the ring. Heck, I really hoped he’d accept. I wanted the day to be perfect. I was going to do my best to see to it that it was. I just hoped that Blake would do his part by saying yes.
B∞C
Christmas Day arrived. I was so nervous. I didn’t know if I was going to propose to Chris on Christmas or on New Years’ Eve. I had originally planned to propose on Christmas, but now I thought that New Year’s Eve might be more romantic. I had this vision of taking him back to Seattle with me, and proposing on top of the Space needle. We had that one moment on top of it before, and I thought it would be nice to relive that moment. The more I thought about it, the more I decided that I would propose on New Year’s Eve on top of the Space needle. It would be perfect and romantic. I knew Chris loved it when I was romantic. I hoped that this would be romantic enough for him. I was glad that I had bought him something besides the ring to give him for Christmas. This way, I still had something to give him even though I wasn’t giving him the ring on Christmas anymore.
Anyway, we arrived two days before, and had placed all the presents underneath the tree. Our families had already long since bonded, and it made me feel even better about proposing to Chris. I just hoped I could last to the new year before proposing.
Chris and I woke up around the same time that Christmas morning. We were in each other’s arms.
He smiled at me. “Merry Christmas, baby.”
I smiled back. “Merry Christmas.” I kissed him, and he hungrily returned my kisses.
“I guess we should get ready and start heading downstairs. My mom will be coming up to get us soon if we don’t,” Chris said as he looked at the bedside clock.
I nodded, remembering all the times she had inadvertently knocked on the bedroom door, ceasing any kind of sexual activity between Chris and I. I kissed Chris one more time, and then climbed out of bed.
He grinned. “You look so sexy in nothing but your pajama pants—especially with your hair mussed up.
I walked over to he mirror, and laughed when I saw my hair sticking every which way. I ran a hand through my it.
“Can I it on your lap, Santa?” I could see Chris grinning in the mirror.
I turned around and grinned, knowing he was referring to my pajama pants, which were red sweatpants with white fur at the ends, designed to look like Santa pants. They were a gift from my mother. I wore them so as not to hurt her feelings, even though they were kind of dorky. “If you promise to ride me.”
He gasped. “Why, Santa! How do you expect the children to be good and not naughty if you’re naughty yourself?”
I smirked, and slowly sashayed over to him. I sat on the bed, and pulled him close. “Well, you see, Christopher, unlike the real Santa, I prefer people to be naughty—especially you.”
His eyes lowered and moaned, pulling me down on top of him. I ran my hands over his naked chest.
“What are you wearing? Hm?”My hands trailed down to his boxers.
“You remember. I’m wearing those white boxers with the red and white candy canes all over them.”
“Mm…Way too dorky. I think you should take them off…” I started to tug them off just as there was a knock on the door.
“Chris, Blake, are you up? Everyone’s downstairs waiting for you two.”
I quickly removed my hands from his shorts, and threw myself down beside him, fighting back a moan.
Chris smiled apologetically at me. “Yes, mom. We’ll be down in five minutes.”
When we heard her walking way, we both laughed.
“It never fails,” I said.
Chris smiled, and gently stroked my cheek with his thumb. “Later.” He kissed my cheek.
“I’m gonna hold you too that,” I said.
We both got up then. I tossed on my T-shirt that went with the pants. It was a T-shirt with Santa’s jacket drawn onto it.
Chris smirked.
“Not a word,” I warned. I brushed my hair, and then headed to the bathroom.
Chris threw on a T-shirt that had three deers singing Christmas carols on it.
After he went to the bathroom, we both headed downstairs to join the others. I couldn’t explain it, but I just had this feeling that this was going to be the best Christmas yet.
B∞C
I was so nervous. I decided not to propose to Blake in front of my family. I didn’t think he would say no, but in case he did, I didn’t want the public humiliation. Besides, I didn’t want to put him on the spot.
When it came time to pass out the gifts, I gave him the other present I had bought for him.
He grinned when he opened it. “Oh my gosh, I love it! Thank you!” He pulled me in for a kiss.
I smiled, and eagerly kissed him back. “Mm, I’m glad you like it.” I had gotten him a gold watch. It wasn’t just any watch. I had it special made. The band consisted of big block letters, which spelled out his nickname: BShorty. The face of the watch was circled in diamonds, and the numbers were written graffiti style.
“It’s awesome! How did you ever find anything like it?” he asked, going back to admiring his watch.
I grinned. “I had it specially made. I borrowed one of your watches to get the right size, and put it back before you even knew it was gone.”
“You’re a sneaky one.” He whispered in my ear. “It turns me on.” He then kissed me again.
“All right, all right, there are children in the room. Remember,” Michelle said.
Blake and I broke the kiss and grinned. “Sorry,” we said in unison.
“Open yours now,” Blake said, handing me my gift.
I smiled at him, and took the gift. “You wrapped it really well,” I said.
“Actually, the gift wrappers at the mall wrapped it,” he said, blushing.
I laughed. “That’s fine.” I opened it up, and smiled when I saw a black leather jacket. I took it out, and saw my name stitched in green on the back, right above a drum set, guitar, and keyboard, which were all stitched in green as well.
“This must have cost you a fortune,” I said.
He shrugged. “If you like it, it was worth every penny.”
I put the jacket on, and then pulled him in for an even deeper kiss than the last time. “Does that show you how much I love it?” I asked.
He grinned. “I don’t know. I think you should show me again.”
“Not in front of us, he doesn’t,” Michelle bitched again.
We all laughed.
“All right. “Well thank you, baby. I love it.” I kissed Blake once more, despite my sister’s protests.
Blake licked his lips and grinned when I broke the kiss. “I’m glad you love it,” he said.
I grinned in return, and then we passed out the gifts we bought for our families. It was soon time for me to propose. I just hoped I could push aside my nerves to do so.
B∞C
Our families loved their gifts. I was glad. I always worry someone isn’t going to like something I pick out for them.
After all the gifts were open, my mother went into the kitchen to help Phyllis and Michelle cook Christmas lunch.
I was going to see if they needed my help with anything, setting the table maybe since I couldn’t cook, but Chris pulled me aside before I could ask.
“Let’s go outside. I want to give you another part of your Christmas gift.”
I grinned. “There’s more? Does it have to be outside? We’re still in our pajamas.”
“Yes, there’s more. I think you’re going to like it. At least, I hope you do. We can change first. I think it will be better if I give it to you outside in private.”
“Well if it’s from you, I’m sure I’ll love it, whatever it is,” I said. I kissed his cheek. “Let’s get changed then.” I was so curious as to what it was he was going to give me.
He kissed me on the lips, and then we headed upstairs to change. I couldn’t get changed fast enough. I loved surprises, and it was driving me insane wondering what he could possibly have for me that was better given to me outside in private. I bet it was something for the bedroom. I grinned at the thought. I’d definitely love it if that were the case, I knew.
B∞C
It seemed like it took forever for us both to get dressed and ready to go outside. I knew it couldn’t have been that long, for Blake was rushing to get his surprise.
Anyway, once we were out of the house, all bundled up in jeans, turtlenecks, sweaters, jackets, scarves, hats, and gloves, I knew the time was nearing.
“Chris, do you honestly love these sweaters?” Blake asked, looking down at his chest with distaste, even though his sweater was covered by his jacket.
I grinned. “I think they’re cute. Besides, your mom made them, so they are special.”
“You told my mom you loved it. I know you can’t love it. You can think it’s cute maybe, but love it? No way can someone love something this fugly.”
I laughed. “Okay, so maybe I wouldn’t normally wear something like this, but for Christmas it’s not bad. I do love it because it came from your mom.” Dinah had knitted us matching sweaters. Mine was green, and Blake’s was read. Mine had a turtle wearing a Santa hat on it, and his had a moose wearing a Santa hat on it. My name was stitched on top of mine in red. Blake’s name was stitched in green on top of his.
We began walking hand in hand in my backyard, our boots crunching over the snow.
“It’s nice to actually have snow on Christmas,” Blake said with a smile.
I smiled too. “Wanna make a snowman?”
He smirked. “I’d rather open whatever it is you have for me. Where is it anyway?” He looked around.
“I have it hidden somewhere outside.”
“Where?”
“You have to find it.” I grinned.
“Come on, Richie! Don’t make me wait.” He stomped his foot.
I smirked. “You’re so childish sometimes.” I was just teasing, and he knew it.
“Oh, that’s it, punk! You wanna start something?” he teased back.” I can take you on.”
“You have to catch me first,” I said. I took off.
“Hey, you! Don’t run away from me!” He chased after me.
I ran faster. “You’re forgetting I was on the football team. I can run much faster than you!” I yelled back.
No sooner had I said that, did I slip on a patch of ice, and fall flat on my back.
Blake started laughing hysterically. “Are you all right?” he asked, walking over to me, still laughing.
“Except for my ego,” I said, feeling stupid.
He plopped himself down on top of me. “I caught you. Now where’s my present?”
“You only caught me because you slipped,” I reminded him.
He kissed me. “Does it really matter?”
I shook my head, my eyes lowering with love for him. “No.”
We kissed for a few moments, then I started to feel the cold again. I broke the kiss, licking my lips. “Why don’t I get you that gift now?”
He grinned and nodded. “Yes, why don’t you?”
He stood up and helped me up as well.
“All right. Stay here, and close your eyes. I’ll be back in a moment.”
“Don’t be long.” He closed his eyes.
“No peaking!” I said as I ran off to get the gift.
“I won’t! Chillax,” he said.
I walked a few feet away, and grabbed the turtle from Build-a-Bear that I had bought for him. I had it waiting on a flat rock. I picked it up, and then headed back to Blake. The ring was in my jacket pocket.
When I got to Blake, I grinned, seeing him standing there with his eyes closed. I took a deep breath. The time was now, and there was no turning back. Lord, give me the courage.
B∞C
“All right. You can open your eyes now.”
I opened my eyes, and smiled when I saw Chris standing there with the turtle from Build-a-Bear in his hands.
“Aw! You got me the turtle? Is it so I’ll think of you?” I asked, taking it from him.
He nodded. “I got a voice chip put into it. Why don’t you give him a hug?”
I smirked, expecting the turtle to say, “I love you”. I gave it a hug, and boy was I surprised to hear what the turtle really had to say. Chris had recorded the message with his own voice. “Blakey, will you marry me?”
I looked up at Chris, and I knew my mouth must have been dropped open. That was the last thing I had expected the turtle to say!
“I was in love with you from the moment I first saw you—before we even formally met. It was that moment that I believed in love at first sight. Now, over three years later, I’m more in love with you than ever. You know me better than I know myself. I’ve never been as happy as I am with you. There is nothing I want more this Christmas than to know that we’re going to be together forever, and to have you as my husband. So what do you say?” He dropped to one knee in front of me, and took out a black velvet box.
I covered my mouth. I couldn't believe this was happening.
“Will you marry me, Blakey, and make me even happier than I already am?”
I was a little disappointed, and very surprised that he had proposed to me when I was the one that was supposed to propose. Of course I was going to say yes, but since he had taken the fun out of me being able to propose, I decided to still have a little fun. I was still going to propose to him of course, but the fun would come with my answer to his proposal. “I’ll give you my answer tomorrow, Richie.” I kissed his cheek. “I love you so much.”
“Then why can’t I know your answer right now?” he asked, sounding a little whiny.
I smiled. “Patience, my love.” I kissed him again, and then nodded towards the house. “Come on. I’m freezing my butt off. Let’s go back inside.”
He nodded, looking a little hurt.
I hated hurting him, but it wasn’t like I wasn’t going to say yes. I just wanted to have a little fun with my answer, and what I had in mind wouldn’t be possible to do until the day after. He would have to wait, like he loved to make me do.
B∞C
I was a little shocked. I knew it wasn’t definite that he would say yes, but I honestly didn’t think he’d say no. Would he really make me wait just to hear a no? I didn’t think so, but with Blake, you never knew. What if he had to think about it, and that was why he was making me wait? Could I really end up losing him? The thought scared the heck out of me. As we went back inside, I really didn’t feel like celebrating. I knew it was The Lord’s birthday, so I tried to push my worries aside. The Lord always comes first.
However, I will say that I was grateful when Blake held my hand underneath the table and began to gently stroke it with his thumb. I could only hope that this meant he was going to say yes tomorrow. I silently prayed for the strength to wait until tomorrow.
