Note: I’m really sorry I took so long, y’all. I had written a version of this part, but while I was reading over it, I just wasn’t feeling it, so I scraped it and started over. Anyway! Here it is. Classic, hope ya feel better.
=====
The pounding on the door drove the girls apart. Kelly sighed as she disentangled her legs from around Carrie’s waist. The blonde gave her one quick peck before stepping back so Kelly could jump off the vanity. Carrie smiled as Kelly buttoned her shirt and zipped up her jeans before opening the door. There was a sigh of relief as they saw Jill.
“Hi,” Kelly smiled guiltily.
“Um, yeah….” Jill smirked. “Mike’s been asking where you were. I think he’s ready for you.”
“Thanks,” the Texan nodded as the three of them made their way back to the control room.
“No problem.”
“There you are,” Mike clapped his hands. “Carrie,” he smiled. “I had no idea you were a singer. That was great.”
“Thanks,” she smiled at the unexpected compliment.
“I had a thought,” he eyed them both carefully. “You two really should duet someday,” The girls looked at each other and laughed. “And if you do, I want to be there for it.”
“That could work,” Kelly grinned. She had actually been thinking about it, but had decided to put that on hold until she was done with her album. However, now that Mike was offering to help, maybe they could put something together.
“Hmm,” Carrie shifted. “I don’t know.” She’d secretly wanted to sing with Kelly since she used to sing along to A Moment Like This when she was alone in her car, driving home on the weekends. But, it was one thing to joke around by herself and quite another to do a real recording. She wasn’t sure it would be doable as she figured Clive would have a fit, and she wasn’t one to rock the boat.
“Oh! I do,” Kelly replied as she walked to her bag. She pulled out a sheet and handed it to Carrie.
“So, you’ve thought about this, huh,” she teased as Kelly sported a slightly guilty look and nodded.
The blonde’s eyes grew wide as she read the name of the song Kelly shared. It was the one Kelly had sung for her while on the yacht. Her heart skipped as she handed it back to the Texan. “Um, Kel, can I talk to you?” she asked nervously.
“Sure,” Kelly guided them to a corner of the studio. “What’s wrong?”
Carrie smiled. “Nothing. Just…,” she whispered. “I don’t even know what to say…”
Kelly leaned close. “Well, it’s what you make me feel. It would be wrong for you to not have a part in it.”
Carrie beamed. “I so want to kiss you right now….and if we weren’t surrounded by all these people, I would be all over you for that.”
Kelly blushed slightly. “Just remember that later. So what do you say? You wanna try it?”
Carrie shifted. “Well, um, I don’t know. Do you think we can pull it off?”
Kelly nodded. “Yes, I do. I think we should lay it down. Even if it’s just for fun?”
Carrie couldn’t deny Kelly after seeing the adorable look of excitement all over her face. “Ok,” she nodded. “We’ll give it a go…for fun.”
The girls made their way back to Mike as Kelly handed him the song. “This is what we want to record.”
Mike looked at the title slightly puzzled. “Ok, “ he replied, caught off guard. “Which is which?”
Kelly had some scribbled notes on the page. “I’ll start off,” she pointed to her notes. “I’ll do the verses and Carrie joins me for the chorus. Not quite a duet, but what do you think?”
“Works for me,” Mike replied. “Do you want to use this arrangement or do you have a different melody?”
“Let’s keep it and see how it works. I kind of wrote it as a slow song, but we can tweak it if needed.”
“Deal.” Mike handed the sheet to a production assistant who copied it and brought it back to the girls. Kelly and Carrie waited for a few minutes while the band rehearsed the song a couple of times. Once they were ready, they walked into the booth together. They stood in front of the mic, facing each other, their lyrics in front of them. Carrie was mesmerized as Kelly sang her part. She was always captivated by the Texan’s ability to make her feel what she was feeling as she sang.
The blonde breath caught in her throat as she saw the intensity of Kelly’s gaze staring back at her. Kelly nodded and Carrie took that as her cue. Kelly turned the attention to Carrie. She got chills as she heard the blonde belting out the song. They couldn’t tear their eyes away from each other as they sang, “It’s the way you look at me…it’s what I find in your eyes…,” they finished together.
They turned to find everyone in the control room staring at them with huge smiles. Both girls looked at each other in awe.
“Huh,” Kelly laughed. “I guess we did alright.”
Mike came in through the speaker. “I’d say,” he gave them a thumbs up. “That’s a wrap.”
Carrie looked unsure. “Really? You don’t want us to do it again?”
“No,” he shook his head. “That was perfect. Actually, I almost felt like I was spying on some private moment or something.”
Jill snorted and coughed to cover it up. “Sorry,” she apologized, covering her mouth. “Allergies.”
Kate laughed as she handed Jill a water. “Here, maybe this will help.”
Kelly walked over to Carrie and wrapped her into a hug, so she could whisper in her ear. “I love you.”
“I love you too,” Carrie whispered back, her face was hidden by Kelly’s so she gently kissed her earlobe.
They walked hand in hand out of the booth as Mike hugged Kelly. “Did you write that,” he asked as he let get go and took a step back.
“Um, yeah,” she shifted.
“Wow,” he whistled. “Whoever that guy is who inspired that. Lucky bastard,” he teased.
Carrie’s eyes widened and she tried to cover with a smile. “Yeah, I’d say so,” she added as Jill and Kate busted into a fit of giggles. Kelly shook her head as she joined in the laughter.
Mike glanced at Aben who just shrugged. “Women…” he offered as his explanation.
Kelly turned to Mike. “Can you get me a copy of that?”
“Absolutely,” he replied as he motioned to his assistant. “So, are we adding that one to the tracks we’re sending to the label?”
Kelly frowned and looked over at Carrie. “Uh,” she hesitated. “No. Let’s hold off for now. It’s kind of a private song,” she explained.
“Your call,” he nodded. “Well, he glanced at his watch. I’ve got another session starting in an hour. You’re welcome to stay in this studio if you aren’t done. If you need, me I’ll be next door.”
Kelly smiled. “Thanks, Mike. I think we’re done today,” she looked at her band, everyone nodding in agreement.
“See you tomorrow, then.”

Carrie snuggled closer as she played with Kelly’s necklace, gently moving her hand up and down the Texan’s bare chest. Kelly smiled as she gently rubbed Carrie’s back.
“What are you thinking,” she asked, catching her eyes.
“Hmm,” she draped her leg over Kelly’s. “I’m just enjoying this, being with you.”
“Me too,” Kelly squeezed her as the blonde moved closer for a kiss.
She pulled back and sighed. “Seriously, Kel. I had no idea you wanted me to sing on your song. That meant so much.”
“Aw,” she grinned. “Well, you were the inspiration for that song. I needed you to sing that with me. I kinda wrote it for us.”
Carrie smiled as she settled back down in Kelly’s arms and continued tracing her finger along her chest. “You know, if you were trying to score a hot babe, this writing a song for you thing, would be perfect.”
Kelly laughed. “Hmm, thanks. I will have to remember that.”
“Hey,” Carrie pouted.
“Don’t be silly,” Kelly poked her side. “I already got myself the hottest babe in country music,” she beamed emphatically.
“Oh, geez,” Carrie rolled her eyes. “That crap. I don’t buy it for one second.”
Kelly started tickling her as Carrie squirmed in her arms. “Get used to it, honey.”
“Whatever,” Carrie giggled, breathless. “Truce,” she offered, hopefully.
Kelly stopped. “Yes,” she smiled mischievously as she straddled a surprised Carrie.
“Good,” Carrie smiled knowing exactly what was on Kelly’s mind. She moved up as her lips crashed into hers.
Kelly smirked as she pulled back to look into Carrie’s clouded eyes. “Well, well,” she winked. She turned to the nightstand. “Shouldn’t you be going to bed? You’ve got an early morning…”
Carrie smiled. “I’ll be quick…”
Kelly laughed. “Well, wait a minute,” she placed her hand on Carrie’s shoulder.
The blonde chuckled in response. “But I’ll be gentle, I promise.”
Kelly pretended to be mulling it over. “Nope,” she shook her head. “It’s all me.”
“But I wanted to-“ the blonde began to protest, but was quieted by Kelly’s lips firmly on hers.
=====
Carrie groaned as her phone went off, earning a sleepy giggle against her neck from Kelly. The blonde reached with her free hand for it.
“Hey Matt,” she answered sleepily. “No, I’m up. Yeah. Um, I’ll just meet you downstairs. Ok. See you in thirty. No, thirty. Thanks.” She placed her phone back on the nightstand.
Kelly moved back with a smile. “Well, good mornin’. Is someone a little tired this mornin’,” she laughed.
“Nuh uh,” Carrie leaned over her. “Ok, maybe a little, but definitely worth it.”
“Oh, I agree,” Kelly pushed a strand of hair away from Carrie’s face as she leaned up for a quick kiss. Carrie melted into her, before the Texan pulled back. “Now, none of that. Someone has to be dressed and downstairs in thirty minutes.”
Carrie pulled back and sat up. “Wow, look at you being all time conscious.”
Kelly sat up and leaned against the headboard. “Pfft. Please. No. I just know how they get. If Matt’s anything like Jason, he throws a fit whenever I’m late. I thought I’d spare you.”
Carrie laughed. “Oh, well, Matt isn’t really like that too much. And I don’t have to get dressed. He’s got all that in the car. Plus, they’ll do my hair and makeup there. SO…technically,” she gave her a quick peck. “I’ve just got to slip some clothes on. Two minutes. Tops.”
Kelly giggled. “Now, didn’t your mom ever tell you it’s not nice to start something you know you can’t finish?”
Carrie laughed getting up. “Thanks. Figures you’d find the perfect mood killer…”
Kelly walked up to her looking her up and down. “What’s that,” she asked, wrapping her arms around her.
“Oh, no,” she raised a hand. “You don’t get to use the mom word and then try to get all seductive….”
“But,” Kelly pouted. “I was just…”
“Too late now. Besides, I’ve got get a really quick shower,” the motioned to them both before leaning in for a quick kiss.
“Ok,” the Texan relented as Carrie began to walk away. “I’ll just wait here…nekked….in bed….”
The blonde walked into the bathroom laughing. “Fine. You can wash my back.”
“Score!” Kelly beamed racing into the bathroom and closing the door behind her.
========
“Matt’s gonna kill me,” Carrie ran up to her bag to pull out some sweats and a hoodie.
“Babe,” Kelly, tried to reassure as she stood by the bed, drying her hair with a towel. “It’s fine. You’re only like five minutes late.”
“I know,” she answered, searching for some sneakers. “But I’m never late…”
“I’m sorry,” Kelly tossed the towel onto the bed and reached for Carrie.
Carrie shook her head. Here she was stressing about being late and all Kelly could do was hold her in place. She took a deep, calming breath. “Thanks,” she smiled.
“Not a problem,” Kelly beamed. “Now,” she playfully smacked her butt. “You better get going.”
“Ok, so, I guess, I will see you tonight,” she asked grabbing her purse and tossing her phone inside.
“Yup. I’ll be at the studio and I’m not sure when I’ll be done, but I’ll call you or text you.”
“Ok,” Carrie came back to give her a quick kiss before she reached for the door. “Bye.”
