"Thanks so much for coming out," Kelly gave Meghan a quick hug as they stood in the Texas airport along with Jill and Kate.
"What? Thanks for having me," Meghan replied. "I had a great time. I'm just sorry I couldn't stay longer, but I've got to get back to work."
"Well, you're welcome back anytime," Kelly assured, pulling out her phone as it started to ring. She frowned, sighing, "Sorry, I gotta take this."
"Her manager's an ass," Kate explained at Meghan's confused look as Kelly walked a few steps away to talk.
"Really?"
"Yea."
"Hm...she doesn't seem like the type that would put up with that," Meghan noted.
"Yea, he's not gonna be around for much longer," Kate assured.
"That's good," Meghan nodded, turning to Jill. "So..."
"Call me when you get there?" Jill suggested.
"Yea," she smiled, reaching out and pulling her into a hug.
Kate looked the other way, giving them a moment of privacy. She watched the Texan's eyes narrow as she talked on the phone. She loved the fact that no matter how much Kelly tried to hold back her emotions, they were always so clear in her eyes. She smiled as she caught Kelly's gaze, watching the singer's eyes soften as she winked at her. Kate laughed softly, fighting down the blush she felt rising as she turned back to Jill and Meghan who were still hugging. She rolled her eyes, "Come on, you two. Meg's gotta get going or she's gonna miss her flight."
Jill pulled away reluctantly.
"I'll see you soon," Meghan assured, rubbing her arm before turning to Kate. "You too, girlie. Behave?"
Kate smiled, "I'll try."
"And make sure she has fun," she nodded towards Kelly. "I like her better when she's having fun. This business mode thing doesn't suit her."
"Yea," Kate laughed softly, hugging her. "Have a safe trip."
"Will do," Meghan smiled. "Bye."
"Bye," Kate waved, giggling at the look on Jill's face. She wrapped an arm around her best friend. "You'll see her soon."
"She's so great," Jill shook her head. "Isn't she great?"
"She's great," Kate patted her arm, raising an eyebrow as Kelly hung up the phone, walking back to them.
"She left?"
"Yea, it was last call. Everything ok?"
"Yea, I just had to remind Jeff that it's not always about the money."
"What do you mean?" she asked as they started to walk out of the airport.
"Some other crazy merchandise thing. I swear, with him sometimes it's as if I'm not even a singer anymore, just a name."
Kate wrapped an arm around her as well, "You know what we need to make this day better?"
"Ice cream?" Kelly looked at her hopefully.
"Ice cream," Kate nodded in agreement.
++++++++++
"Well, if it means more free ice cream, here's to hoping y'all have more sad mornings," Ashley raised her ice cream in a toast.
Kelly laughed, stealing a bite of ice cream from Kate's cup as they sat together on the sofa in the living room.
"Hey," Kate protested.
"I just wanted to see what it tastes like," Kelly smiled innocently.
"We both got chocolate," Kate pointed out with a laugh.
Kelly winked at her.
Kate nudged her playfully with her shoulder.
"So when are we going to be heading back?" Jill asked curiously.
"Missing her already?" Ashley smiled.
Jill blushed.
"Well, actually, I'm headed to Nashville next for the CMT fest with Reba, y'all are welcome to come, or you can go back to LA...y'all can even stay here if you like, it's up to y'all," Kelly explained. "Hey," she batted Kate's hand away from her ice cream cup, giggling as the taller girl stole a bite.
"Had to even it out," Kate replied with a smile.
"Ice cream whore."
"Plain ole' whore."
Kelly laughed openly squeezing Kate's knee, making her smile widen.
"So who's up for some bowling tonight?" Ashley clapped her hands together. "I can call up the gang, so you two can meet all of them."
Jill nodded, "Sounds like fun."
"Are you a good bowler?" Kate asked Kelly curiously.
"Not at all," Kelly shook her head surely.
"I'm so gonna kick your butt."
"You forget how competitive I am."
"You just said you sucked. No amount of competitiveness can make up for that."
"We'll see," Kelly shrugged, stealing another bite of ice cream from her with a cheeky grin.
Kate scrunched her nose at her playfully, earning a giggle from the short Texan.
++++++++++
"So you get to sing with Reba again?" Kate smiled, sitting on Kelly's bed while the Texan dug through her closet.
"Yep," Kelly grinned.
"Excited?"
"Extremely."
"Do you know how cool it is that Reba McEntire recorded a duet with you on a song that you wrote?" Kate questioned.
Kelly nodded, "Trust me, I know. I'm still tripping out over it."
"What else are you gonna sing?"
"I don't know. Reba talked about doing 'Why Haven't I Heard From You?'."
"Do you hear yourself?" Kate's eyebrows raised. "Reba talked about doing..." she mocked.
Kelly laughed, "It's crazy, I know."
Kate shook her head, laying back on the bed, "This festival thing sounds like a lot of fun."
"Yea, I hear there's gonna be a bunch of different performers throughout the week and a bunch of other stuff. Have y'all decided if y'all are coming, yet?"
"We can't," Kate sighed. "We've gotta get back and check on the apartment and do some stuff in L.A."
"Bummer. It would've been fun having y'all there."
"Take a lot of pictures for me?"
"I'm so not a picture person," Kelly replied. "But I'll make sure Ashley does."
"Good," she pushed herself up on her elbows. "What is taking you so long? It's just bowling."
"I think Ashley tried to organize my closet," Kelly explained, tossing several shirts on the floor. "I can't find anything now."
"But you could when it looked liked something had exploded in there?"
"I like to think of it as my own personal form of feng shui. "
Kate laughed, "Why don't you just wear what you have on? You look great."
"These jeans are way too tight to bowl in. Besides, I don't wanna look great...I wanna look hot," she grinned at her, over her shoulder.
"You'd look hot in anything. Well...anything except that crazy dress you wore for the Idol charity thing."
"Ok, ok, I get it: the dress was ugly. Why are people so obsessed with it?"
"Because on television, it wasn't just ugly...it was really ugly," Kate teased, ducking at the slipper that was thrown in her direction.
"You know, I could've used that little piece of information before I went on stage in front of millions of viewers."
"But what would be the fun in that?"
"You're just in a playful mood today, aren't you?" Kelly turned to her.
Kate shrugged, "I'm just really enjoying this...being out here and getting to hang out with you. It's very relaxing."
"Yea," Kelly agreed. "Look, about the other morning..."
Kate rolled her eyes, "For the hundredth time, it's ok. I was in the wrong for the way I acted. I shouldn't have drank that much. And you were in the wrong for trying to hide it from me, but it's all out in the open now, so we're good, ok?"
"Ok," Kelly nodded. "You just seemed mad..."
Kate groaned, sitting up, "I wasn't mad. I could just tell that you weren't being completely honest with me, and I wasn't used to it. But I wasn't mad then, and I'm not mad now, I promise."
"Good," Kelly smiled, turning back into her closet, picking up one of the shirts she had tossed on the floor.
"You know...I think those jeans are perfect for you to bowl in," Kate grinned when Kelly's jaw dropped as she looked at her.
"Did you just check out my ass?"
"Just giving a little friendly advice...it's what friends do, right?" she giggled.
"You know...I don't know how to take that," Kelly laughed, walking to her as Kate held her hand out.
"Take it for what it was," Kate shrugged, biting her lip as Kelly straddled her lap.
"And what's that?" Kelly looked around.
"Me saying your butt looks great in those jeans," Kate replied, watching her curiously. "What are you doing?"
Kelly smiled, looking back at her. She placed a careful hand on the blonde's back as she laid her down slowly on her blue comforter, holding herself up over her.
"Word of advice: next time you want to keep a man from running away, bring him here. Dark blue is definitely your color."
"You said I looked great against pink," Kate reminded.
"I was straddling you on your bed, I would've thought you looked great against anything," Kelly smiled.
"And what about now?"
"You look amazing," Kelly shook her head softly. "You should wear blue more often."
Kate smiled as Kelly's thumb traced her jawline.
"Just thought I'd give you a bit of friendly advice," Kelly grinned, tapping her chin with her thumb before sitting back up.
"You're something else, Clarkson."
"And you can't get enough of it," she smirked.
Kate laughed, watching as Kelly climbed off of her and went back to 'fixing' her closet.

"What the heck has got you grinning like a little kid on Christmas?" Ashley asked as she and Kelly followed Jill and Kate into the bowling alley.
"I told Kate she looked really good in blue," Kelly replied.
"And?"
Kelly nodded towards the backup singer with a smile, "What color shirt is she wearing?"
Ashley laughed, shaking her head, "Blue."
"Exactly," she beamed, walking to the front desk. "Hey, we reserved a couple lanes..."
"What's the name?" the girl behind the counter asked.
"Bonifa," Kelly replied.
Kate snorted with laughter.
"It's under Ashley," Ashley corrected, elbowing her.
"It's lanes 21 and 22," the girl replied.
Kelly giggled as Ashley pushed her towards the lanes.
"I haven't been bowling in forever," Jill admitted.
Ashley looked at her unbelievingly.
"What?" she asked. "Ok, why do people associate lesbians with bowling?"
"Kelly loves to bowl," Ashley pointed out.
"I do," Kelly agreed, sitting in one of the chairs.
"If all lesbians were like Kelly, we'd all be walking around naked and extremely sexually frustrated," Jill replied.
"Hey..." Kelly protested. "I am not sexually frustrated."
"Yea, for that to happen, you'd have to love sex," Ashley nodded.
"I love sex," Kelly argued, loudly.
Ashley and Jill laughed as several people from a nearby lane looked at them curiously.
Kate giggled as Kelly folded her arms defensively.
"I'm just teasing," Ashley ruffled her hair. "I know you love sex."
Kelly laughed softly, "Y'all suck."
Jill shook her head, smiling as she looked through the different bowling balls.
Kate held out her hand.
Kelly took it, linking their fingers together, "I do love sex."
"I know," she smiled.
Kelly held out her free hand.
Kate took it, laughing softly as Kelly swung their hands from side to side.
"I like your shirt," Kelly grinned.
"Yea?" Kate looked down at it. "I heard once that blue was a good color on me..."
"Well whoever told you that has very good taste because you look great."
"Thanks," she smiled softly. "I see you changed your jeans."
Kelly laughed, "Yea, I wasn't kidding when I said they weren't made to be bowled in. I'd rather not split my pants in a building full of people."
"But you have no qualms about holding hands with a girl in a building full of people?"
"I'm home," Kelly pointed out. "They know me here."
"They know?" Kate's eyebrows flew up.
"They don't know that," Kelly giggled. "They know me, and they know that my group of friends is really close...it's just girls having fun."
"And your friends...they know, right?"
Kelly looked down at their hands that were still intertwined.
"They don't?"
"Some do," Kelly replied. "The ones that I'm closest to, and that I've known for like ever do."
"And the others?"
"Until I'm ready to come out completely, it's best if I keep those that know to a minimum."
"That must be hard," her thumbs soothed over Kelly's hands.
"Not really. I have to pretend every day, anyway," she shrugged.
"Yea, but when you're with your friends, especially when you're home like this...you should get to relax, and just be yourself."
"I can be myself with you," Kelly smiled.
"You've got that down pat, don't you?"
"Got what?"
"The whole, being a complete sweetheart while flashing one of those insanely infectious smiles of yours in hopes of getting the person you're talking to to not see that you're upset."
Kelly looked back down at their hands.
Kate squatted down, bringing them eye level. "Hey," she said softly, getting the Texan to look at her. "I know that I can't begin to understand how hard this is for you, but I remember how hard it was for Jill when she decided it was time to come out to her friends back home, and you've got so much more on the line with this. So...I guess what I mean is...I've heard you say before that you don't like to bother people with your problems, and I just want you to know that I will never consider you talking to me about anything, whether it's something happy or sad or just...anything, anything at all, I will never for a second consider that you bothering me, ok?"
"Ok," Kelly whispered in reply, sniffing.
"Hey now," Kate brought their hands up, wiping the tears from the shorter girl's eyes. "No crying because that will only make me cry, and once I start there's no stopping, so that will not be good."
"Sorry," she giggled.
"It's ok," Kate smiled, squeezing her hands. "Come on, let's go pick out bowling balls."
Kelly nodded, allowing Kate to tug her to her feet.
"So..." Kate grinned. "Some of your friends that are coming tonight don't know?"
"Yea."
"That's totally why you didn't wear the jeans, huh? You didn't want me to be checking out your butt in front of them in case that gave it away, right?"
Kelly laughed.
"That's so it, isn't it?"
"You know, it totally is. I mean, I know you have no self control when it comes to me...you proved that the other night in the hot tub..."
"Oh hush up," Kate pushed her playfully, blushing.
Kelly giggled, "So you admit you like looking at my butt, then."
"Just trying to see what all the fuss is about," Kate shrugged.
"And?"
"It's definitely a force to be reckoned with," Kate nodded.
Kelly smirked, "You love my butt."
"Now, I didn't say that."
"You didn't have to...the look in your eyes when I caught you checking me out earlier in my room said it all."
Kate blushed again.
"You're so cute," Kelly squeezed her hand, smiling as the taller girl's blush deepened.
++++++++++++
"Ok, how in the world are you beating me?" Kate asked as they looked up at the score board. "You've been hanging out in gutterball city all night."
Kelly shrugged, "I'm just that talented."
"There's no way."
"You doubt my skills?" she smirked.
"At bowling, yes," Kate laughed.
"Well, it may have something to do with the fact that I've been bowling for Ashley, and she's been bowling for me."
"Does she know this?"
"She's too busy oogling at the guy in the next lane," Kelly rolled her eyes, nodding to where her friends were huddled, watching the group of guy friends a couple lanes down.
"You're such a cheater."
"Yea, well, according to the scoreboard, I'm also a winner," she grinned.
"Kelly, come here," one of her friends, dragged her over to the group.
Kelly took Kate's hand, pulling her with her.
"Kelly, which one do you think is hotter...the blonde or the brunette?" Lauren asked.
"Um..." Kelly's brow furrowed as she studied the two guys. "The brunette."
"See, told you," Lauren nudged Mary.
"You should go talk to him," Kelly suggested.
"I have a boyfriend," Lauren reminded. "Why don't you go talk to him?"
Kelly scrunched her nose, "He's not really my type."
"You just said he was hot," Lyndsey pointed out.
"I said he was hotter than the blonde, but I don't actually think the blonde's all that hot to begin with, so..."
"And you wonder why you're single?" Lauren teased. "You always find an excuse not to date a guy."
"There's nothing wrong with being picky," Kate pointed out.
Kelly nodded in agreement.
"Ok, I'm starving," April announced, changing the subject. "Who's up for nasty bowling alley nachos? I'm buying."
"Me," Kelly quickly spoke up, looking at her gratefully.
"Come on," April hooked her arm around the shorter girl's. "You can help me think of a funny name for them to announce when it's ready. You too," she smiled at Kate.
Kate smiled back. Kelly had pointed April out when she arrived as one of the few that knew. She was the only one there that night that did out of the group of Texan friends.
Kelly gave Kate's hand a gentle squeeze as April led them away from the group, "Thanks."
"Is it always like that?" Kate asked curiously. "Are they always trying to force a guy down your throat?"
"They weren't forcing it," Kelly smiled. "They just want to see me happy, and their idea of happiness entails being with a guy."
"They also think that she hasn't even gone on a date since she dated Graham which was nearly two years ago," April explained as they stepped up to the counter. "Two large nachos, please."
"Name?" the girl behind the counter asked.
"Kelly Clarkson," April replied.
"Yea, right," the girl rolled her eyes, writing the name down on the order.
Kelly giggled.
"Does that ever bug you?" Kate asked as they walked a few steps away after April had paid.
"Nah, it's nice to go places and not have people you don't know all over you."
"So...how many dates have you been on since then?" she asked curiously.
"She's dated two girls," April replied.
"Three," Kelly corrected.
"Why do you include her?" April frowned. "She was totally using--"
"We were still together," Kelly cut her off.
"Yea, well...I still don't like her..."
"Neither do I," Kelly replied.
"Who's her?" Kate asked.
"One more reason I'm gonna be looking for new management soon," Kelly answered. "I'll explain it later."
"You didn't date any of them for a long time, though, right?"
"No, the longest would be Michelle, and that lasted...a month?"
"Wow."
"Don't wow me," Kelly nudged her playfully. "I just am very good at knowing whether or not something's going to work out, and I don't see the point of playing along if I know it's not right."
"Wouldn't the longest be the first girl?" April questioned. "I mean...starting from the first night."
"Yea, but we didn't actually start dating until a week or so later," Kelly reminded.
"True," she nodded.
Kate looked at the pair of them, confused.
April raised an eyebrow at Kelly, "Have you not gone over 'the list' yet?"
"The list? What list?" Kelly asked.
"The list of exes. That's always the first thing I do when I date a guy."
"Oh..." Kelly laughed. "We're not dating."
April looked at their hands that were still intertwined.
"What? I like her hand," she shrugged, innocently.
April laughed, "Sure..."
"And even if we were, I don't feel the need to bring past relationships up when I'm dating someone. I never got the point of that."
"You told her you'd explain it later," she pointed out.
"Yea, but I tell her everything."
"And y'all aren't dating?"
"She claims to be straight," Kelly rolled her eyes. "But she was totally hitting on me the other night when she was drunk."
"Shut up," Kate blushed, hitting her arm playfully.
Kelly laughed, squeezing her hand.
"Ah...so you've got one of those," April nodded. "Such a tease..."
"Ain't it the truth," Kelly shook her head.
"You guys..." Kate pouted.
"We're just joking," Kelly assured with a smile. "We know you're straight...trust me, I think about it all the time."
Kate looked at her with a hint of nerves.
"And you're not a tease," Kelly noted gently. "I promise."
Kate smiled softly.
"Straight or not, y'all are so going to do it," April said surely, smiling as Kelly's name was announced over the intercom. "You want to get it?"
"It's always fun to see their faces," Kelly nodded. "It's the whole, 'are you? you kind of look like her? but not really, so maybe not?' thing."
Kate laughed softly, as Kelly let go of her hand and walked back to the counter where the nachos were waiting.
"So..." April began, standing beside the taller blonde. "If you don't mind me asking, what exactly are your intentions with my friend?"
