When Night Falls(Pt23)language
Nick slumped against the small couch on the plane, his breath coming in short ragged huffs. The pain in his neck was a dull throb, from when Joe latched himself there only moments ago, taking what he needed. He could already see the wound rapidly heeling in Joe’s side.
“That was a foolish thing to do Joseph.”
“No…what was foolish is I didn’t take enough to kill you when I had the chance just now.”
“Perhaps it’s because you lov…”
“Fuck you Nick.” Joe snorted. Pushing himself from the floor he glanced at the angry red marks on his neck. “Why didn’t Rick come with you?”
“He was…resting.” Nick quickly glanced at Scott, who was standing by the door to the bedroom.
“He must really be out of it. You didn’t tell him I was hurt did you?”
”No we didn’t. Nor does he know that we are here.”
“That explains why he didn’t come.” Joe lay back on the floor, a soft groan danced in his throat. “I forgot how much healing hurts...well, I never been injured like this.”
“Actually, you should be asleep or half out of it.” Nick scratched his chin.
“I slept a little on the way here. Right now, I’m fighting both.”
“Was he there?” Nick finally asked.
“Yes.”
Nick waited for him to tell him more. “And?”
”And what?” Joe raised his head to look at him, then lay back down. “I don’t know who he was. The one time I did see his face…half of it anyway, he had a mask on to cover it. Don’t go badgering Lily and Crystal for answers either, they didn’t see his face.”
“Is there anything you can tell me that may be useful?”
“Not that I can think of. Oh I did tell him I was sick of this game and that it was over. Called him a few names and said that we were leaving. Needless to say, I didn’t get out of there unscathed, but the girls are alive and well…that’s all that mattered.”
“What did he say when you told him the game was over?” Nick glanced at Scott again.
“Um…I don’t remember, not right now anyway.”
“Describe him to me?” Nick shifted, stretching his legs out.
“He’s shorter than I am, by at least 3 inches.”
“Anybody is shorter than you Joe.” Scott chuckled, before he turned and opened the door, telling Lily that it was safe to come out now.
“His hair was black, from what I could see of it under the mask. Um..skin was darker than normal. Well normal for a vampire anyway.”
“He’s a vampire?” Nick was surprised to learn this.
Joe opened his eyes to look at him. “I though you knew that he was. You listened to all the phone calls with me.”
”I didn’t pick up on that.” Nick frowned.
“You’re slipping in your old age Nick.” Joe smiled. “But I got the sense he is older than you.”
“There are many of our kind that are older than I.”
Joe sat up to embrace Crystal. Pulling back he glanced at the stitches on her forehead, lightly running his finger over the jaw line. “I’m very proud of you, both of you. You didn’t let him intimidate you in being afraid.”
“I just kept telling myself that someone would come for us.” Crystal fell back into his arms.
“Oh. He mentioned something about he got what he wanted, the rest was just a bonus. Not sure I believe him on that bonus part.”
Nick shot a glance at Scott, both men had the same thought.
“What more could this psycho want, he killed my son, burned down your castle, killed more of our friends, took Crystal and Lily.” Joe ground the heal of his hand in his tired, dry eyes and began to push himself up. “I’m tired, mentally and physically. It’s over now, so we can try to get our lives back to normal.”
Swaying albeit unsteadily, he lightly leaned on Lily, knowing she couldn’t hold him up. “Let’s go home.” he kissed the top of her head. “I’m sure everyone is more than ready to pamper both of you.”
“Especially Aunt Gail.” Lily rolled her eyes, then smiled. “But I’m looking forward to it.”
“Then what are we waiting for?” Joe smiled down at her.
Nick followed close behind the three of them as they walked arm in arm to the waiting car. He was vastly aware their ordeal was far from over, his inside twisting in knots knowing the happy reunion was not going to last long, once Joe learned of Sav’s disappearance.

Sav groaned and tried to roll over, only to realize he couldn’t. Opening his eyes, he found it to be dark, then realized that something was covering his eyes. He went to reach up to move whatever it was and was unable to move his hands. He tugged on the bindings, they held firmly. Moving his legs with the same results, they too were bound at the ankles.
Sav let his senses reach out inside the room, honed in on someone’s presents. He felt the mattress give under weight as someone straddle his stomach. Fingers as light as feathers traveled up his chest.
“Dylan.” Sav rasped out around his dry mouth.
“mmm, you remembered my touch.’” Dylan replied close to his lips. He pushed the blindfold up.
Sav squinted his eyes from the light, slowly bringing Dylan’s face more into focus, his mind still fuzzy from the drink. He turned his gaze from him to glance around the room. “W...where are we?”
“In my bedroom.” Dylan replied running his fingertip down his throat.
Looking back at him, Sav could clearly see his fangs.
“How long have I been asleep?”
“About eight hours I think. It’s late afternoon here.” Dylan ran his finger over his mouth. “How I have longed to taste your blood for so many years now.”
“I told you it wasn’t the same as….”
”Before your sickness.” Dylan finished. “It doesn’t matter to me.”
”Why am I tied up?”
“So you can’t run away or fly away.”
“You don’t have to tie…” Sav started but Dylan cut him off.
“Oh but I do. Can’t have you trying to get away before the game is over, that would ruin everything.” Dylan leaned in closer, kissed him lightly on the lips, then trailed his mouth along his jaw on the way to his throat.
“Why am I h..here?” Sav tugged on his bindings.
“For some fun.”
“I don’t think this fun Dylan.” Sav began to wiggle beneath him. “Get off and untie me.”
“Don’t fight me Rick, give into what you want.”
“I want you to untie me.”
Dylan rose up to look at him, a slight smile on his lips. “No.” He came down hard on Sav’s mouth, pressing his tongue against his lips, seeking entry. Sav jerked his head sideways, exposing his neck to Dylan, giving him the opportunity to take him.
“Dylan!” The male voice boomed through the room.
Dylan sat motionless atop Sav. He slowly sat up and turned to the man that was quickly coming to the bedside.
“Didn’t I tell you to wait until my arrival?”
“I’ve been waiting for hours.” Dylan shot back.
Sav stilled at the familiar sensation, only stronger now. The crazed man that he had heard many times over the phone came into view, but half of his face was concealed by a red leather mask. It was in those few minutes he realized that he was trouble. Turning his gaze from them, Sav closed his eyes and dropped all barriers between him and Nick, then reaching out with everything he had...to everyone.

Joe was staring out the window at the passing scenery on the long ride home. Confusion and worry etched on his face as he tried again to get through to Sav in their bond. He could feel everyone but him. Dropping his hand he looked over at Nick.
“What happened?”
“You were there, you know what happened.” Nick replied.
“I’m not talking about us. Sav, I can’t feel him or get to him through our bond.”
“I told you he was resting, probably asleep. Maybe that is why you can’t.”
“That has never been a problem before Nick. It doesn’t matter if he were asleep or not. I would be able to connect with him.”
“He’s been under a lot of stress lately.”
”Haven’t we all?” Joe countered.
“You should try and rest. You’re still weak from your injury. We’ll be home soon enough.”
“I’m fine.” Joe shot back, getting irritated at Nick. “Now what happened while I was gone?”
”Nothin really. Sav stayed in the studio most of the time. That’s where he was when we left…sleeping.”
“Amber and Evelyn were with him until he fell asleep." Scott added. “I believe Kyle was at some time, playing guitar. Oh and Tiny, he finally arrived.”
Joe ignored him, “You were never a good liar Nick.”
“I beg your pardon.”
“You’re lying. Something happened and don’t give me any bullshi…” Joe dropped his eyes to the small sparkle on Nick’s finger. “You’ve never worn a ri…that’s…why are you wearing his ring?” When Nick turned his gaze away from him, Joe glanced at Scott seeking answer from him. “Somebody better start talking right now.”
“Sav isn’t at the house.” Scott finally told him after a long pause.
“You let him leave Nick?”
“No!”
“Well were did he go? To the pub, to see a friend, he didn’t go alo…”
Nick met Joe’s eyes that clearly showed the worry in them.“We don’t know where he is.”
“Do you remember Dylan Kershaw?” Scott asked.
“Dylan…of course I do. He would be in his seve…”
”He’s a vampire now.” Nick told him.
“Sav didn’t bring him across, he refused too. What does he have to do with any of this?”
“He came to visit Sav last night. They went for a walk outside and hasn't been seen since.”
“The last time he was with Dylan, I didn’t see him four months, maybe longer. They had a good time together. Maybe Dylan wants to recapture that for a few days. Now that he is a vampire he can taste Sav’s blood, like he wanted to then.”
“I think your missing the point Joe.” Scott said.
“What point is there to miss? Dylan came for a visit, big deal. He and Sav are just off somewhere, reliving old memories. He’s blocking everyone so he can enjoy himself, nothing wrong with that.” Joe huffed and slid further down in the seat. “You’re reading way to much into it…oh, give me his ring.”
Nick slipped it off and handed it to him. “Why would he leave this, if he was only going to be gone for a day?”
“I have no idea. Dylan seemed a little jealous back then. Maybe he doesn’t want to be reminded of me.”
“No one can feel him, get a sense for him close by.” Nick was saying. “Not even me.”
”Well that’s nothing new, he keeps you blocked most of the time anyway.”
“I’ve always been able to get a sense for him Joe. I could follow that all over the world and find him. It’s not there now.”
“Think of it this way…” Scott started, looking directly at Joe. “..why, after all these years, would Dylan show up, right in the middle of all that is going on?”
“Bad timing.” he replied with a shrug of his shoulder.
“Should I kicked his sarcastic little ass or do you want to?” Scott asked, turning to Nick.
“The thought did occur to me.” Nick replied galring at Joe. “You’re not taking this seriously enough Joe.”
“Why are you Nick. Whenever Sav disappears like this, you turn into an obsessive asshole. When he gets back, you beat the crap out of him. Now you look…look scared.”
“Scared.” Nick chuckled. “I’m TERRIFIED!!”
Lily and Crystal scooted as far away as they could in the car. Both of them were aware of Nick’s temper and the car was not the place to be when it flared.
“Who the fuck are you yelling at!” Joe shot back.
In the small confines of the limo, Nick jumped from his seat, going straight at Joe, shoving him hard into the seat.
“I’ve careful controlled ‘flying off the deep end’ since all of this started. But when it comes to the one man that I would die for…I lose it. It occurred to me that Sav wasn’t in the house, hours after the sun was up. I felt him briefly in my mind, then nothing, so did everyone else that share’s a bond with him, then nothing. We searched the grounds and the house for him.” Nick grabbed Joe’s hand where he had put on the ring. “This is the only thing that was found. He would never take it off…never.”
Joe snatched his hand away. “He’s taken it off before.”
“Goddamnit Joe, see the situation for what it is. Sav would not leave for a romp with an old fling, not in light of what is going on.”
“Dylan is working with this psychopath.” Scott added.
“I didn’t take it seriously when he showed up, thinking that it was just a visit to relive old times. Now Sav is gone…vanished, right from under my nose.”
“Where were you when he vanished? Being the arrogant control freak?”
“Rick and I noticed how tired he looked when I walked in the door.” Scott was telling him. “We made Nick lie down for while.”
“No one makes Nick do anything.” Joe shot back.
“This isn’t about me!” Nick yelled.
“You were supposed to be watching him.” Joe hissed and tried to shove him away, but he twisted wrong and pain shot through his stomach.
His grimace of pain didn’t go unnoticed by Nick. Pushing his anger away, he returned to his seat, he waited for Joe to get a handle on his pain. “I let my guard down where Dylan is concerned. I didn’t think he was a threat to Sav. I didn’t listen to Tiny when he voiced his concern about him.”
“You don’t think…” Joe’s voice trailed off. The implications of what Nick was telling him, finally sinking in. “What does he want with Sav?”
“I don’t know.” Nick said in a much softer tone. “All we can do is….” He suddenly sat up straighter as Sav swarmed into his mind and like before, it was brief. He could tell just by looking at Joe’s face that he felt it too.
“That only confirms my fears.” Nick voiced out loud when the sensation vanished.
“Wh…what does Nick?” Scott asked.
“He’s in trouble.” Nick turned to look at him. “Sav came through to both of us. It was brief, but long enough to know.”
“No..no..” Joe was mumbling.
Nick saw the muscles in his jaw tighten. “Keep it together Joe. You don’t have the energy to go berserk, nor the time. You have to keep it together, because I need you.”
Joe slowly came out of his daze. “You need me?”
“Yes.” Nick smiled slightly. “Who do you think will be able to help me through the next few days or however long it will take to bring Rick home…alive?”
“Me.” Joe said softly. “Don’t forget about that big bloke at the house, he’s liable to sit on us, if we go berserk.”
Scott didn’t stop the chuckle from the mental picture it brought. “Yea, Tiny is big, likely the only one that can get away with sitting on Nick.”
Nick rolled his eyes at Scott’s comment, then relaxed in his seat, once he was certain that Joe wasn’t going to lose it, therefore putting Lily and Crystal in danger of being hurt, from his outburst. He watched Joe twist Sav’s ring around on his finger, staring at it as he did.
“We’ll get him back Joe…unharmed. You can put that ring back on his finger, where it belongs.”
Joe didn’t stop the tears that threatened yet again, “W..why does this keep happening to him. What makes Rick so special that everyone goes after him?”
Nick slighted dropped his head, then looked at Joe with hooded eyes. “I can’t answer that.”
“You don’t want to, you mean.” Joe swiped at his cheek. “I’m going to be an emotional mess by the time this is over.”
Lily scooted closer to him, linking her arm through his, offering as much support as she could, as the car continued its journey through the dark night.
