Chapter 23: Big News
Andy sat up in her bed and let out a sigh. She swung her legs over to the side and let her feet touch the soft carpet. Lynn was still sound asleep. She rubbed her face in her hands and sniffled. She looked at the alarm clock. It read seven thirty. It was still dark out but she knew it was morning. She got up and ran her hand through her now blonde hair. But her natural hair color started to peak through.
She told Jennie she wanted to try a new hairstyle this time to see if this one would fit her. So now she would have to retrain her hair to slick it all the way back and keep the sides and back of her head shaved to almost bald. She smiled putting on a sports bra then shirt thinking about when she came home with the hairstyle and Lynn was confused. Once she explained everything Lynn just smiled and shook her head.
Andy looked back at the bed and watched Lynn sleep for a few more moments and then quietly left the room. Her parents decided to stay with Tim and Cathy. Andy was confused because she thought they were going to stay until New Years Day.
Kevin said they wanted to stay while she was recovering and then they would move over to Lynn's parents' place. So that way Andy could have some peace with Lynn and Mila. Which is what they wanted. Last night was the first night they had to themselves and they spent it together watching movies Mila's never seen before.
After brushing her teeth she went down stairs to the kitchen making a beeline to the coffee pot. She rubbed her eye as she filled up the coffee pot with water. She started to think about how she wanted this to be a great Christmas for Mila. After listening to more of what she went through Andy wanted to make their first Christmas together a good one.
She finished filling up the coffee maker with what she needed and hit the start button. She started to get what she needed to make breakfast and she smiled knowing exactly what she would make. She got everything together and started to make the perfect breakfast.
She pulled out her phone and turned on her music. She set it on the counter and started to softly sing along to the song that was playing. She also had a song on her phone and she wanted to surprise Lynn with it at her parents Christmas Eve party tonight.
"Fuck," she whispered to herself. She never thought to ask about Mila's religious views. She would ask her about it over breakfast. Lynn already knew what Andy was going to do tonight. Especially since her parents are here and Wendy will be here too. Whatever Mila decides Andy was going to support her either way.
"Good morning!" Andy heard and she turned around and smiled seeing Mila walking up to the bar stool and sat down. Andy opened the cupboard and took out a small glass.
"Milk or orange juice kiddo?" She asked, opening up the refrigerator.
"Milk please, it looks like you're making pancakes." Mila said with a smile.
Andy smiled and took out the half gallon of milk and poured it into the small glass and set it down for her. She put the milk back into the refrigerator and went back to the stove. She started to cook the turkey bacon in one pan and the other she carefully started to pour the batter onto it. She smiled thinking of the shapes her dad used to make her when she was a kid. So she decided to do the same for Mila.
"You know, I think this was the first thing I made for your mom. In this house. It's kind of surreal that I'm making these pancakes again in this house, around Christmas time because, that's when I made it." Andy explained.
"So it seems like it's kind of a tradition at this point." Mila said, taking a sip of her milk.
Any nodded, "You could say that. I'll show you how to make it one day. There's another thing I've made for your mom twice while in this house."
"The Frutti Di Mare in a white sauce." Mila said in a slight Italian accent.
Andy chuckled and nodded, "The very one. But I put my own little twist to it. So does your Uncle Ethan." She added as she got plates from the cupboard. She covered two with paper towels and started to place the turkey bacon and pancakes on them.
"Are those the Nutella pancakes mom keeps talking about?" Mila asked.
"The very ones. She made these for me back in Virginia a few days before the wedding." Andy told her turning the stove off. She grabbed the butter, and syrup then put them in front of Mila. She returned to the counter and set up a plate for Mila, Lynn, and herself. If Lynn didn't wake up she would set it aside for her.
She opened a drawer and took out two forks. She turned around and smiled at Mila placing a plate in front of her, "Knock yourself out." She said with a smile and then set the plates with extras next to Mila's.
The coffee maker beeped and Andy smiled. She knew exactly what to do with the coffee. She was so excited because this time she had chili honey. She put her special mix together and poured herself a cup. After making her cup of coffee she turned around and stood across from Mila. Before taking a bite of her food she opened another drawer and found her medicine. She quickly took the small pill and put the bottle back in the drawer and closed it.
"Why do you take that before you eat? I've noticed that you do it a lot when it comes to us eating out or you eating anything greasy." Mila asked pouring syrup on her pancakes.
"It helps my stomach settle a little bit. A few years ago I changed my diet and started working out more. So for about two years I didn't have any fast food, or take out, pizza, or anything like that. The first time I had pizza from a place, I got home and my stomach just didn't sit right. So when I told Dr. Samson she told me to start taking these before a meal and I should be fine."
"Uncle Brian was right, you're a walking disaster." Mila said with a chuckle and cut into her pancakes.
"Oh, trust me I know." Andy said, taking a sip of her coffee. She watched Mila's reaction to the pancakes and smiled as she poured some syrup on her pancakes.
"Mama! These are amazing!" She said with a half mouthful and then took another bite.
"Whoa, slow down there. Take your time to savor it." Andy told her as she cut into her own pancake.
"It's just so good!"
Andy chuckled and took a bite of her pancake. They ate in silence for a little while just enjoying their time together. Once they were both done Andy asked Mila to help with the dishes. She also wanted to ask her about religion.
"Mila, you know how we're going over to your grandparents house tonight right?" Andy asked, handing her a plate to dry.
"Yeah, I can't wait! My first real Christmas and I get to meet more family." She said excitedly.
Andy dried her hands and turned around and leaned against the sink as Mila put away the plate. She let out a sigh and crossed her arms, "So, tonight around nine or so, me, Aunt Wendy, and my parents are going to be leaving the party to go to church."
Mila looked at her confused, "Church at night? Why?"
"Well, I was brought up Catholic per your Lola, and every Christmas Eve and every Easter we would go to church."
"But I thought you were Christian." Mila said leaning against the island crossing her arms too.
Andy nodded, "I am, I was rebaptized when I was sixteen. But I keep up with this tradition for my family. Now, you don't have to go with me. Your mom did come our first Christmas together, but that's a different story. So what I'm saying is I don't want to force this on you. I want you to make your own decision. I don't know what you believe in and that's okay. I'm sure you have your own beliefs, just like your mom. You are more than welcome to join us tonight, and you are also more than welcome to stay with your mom. It's all up to you."
Mila nodded, "Okay. Thank you for being honest with me. Can I think about it? Because one foster home I was in pretty much shoved God down my throat and forced me to do a lot of things I was unsure about."
"Take all the time you need. I won't be offended. I would have to talk to your Lola, because growing up I had a lot shoved down my throat when it came to God. What do you believe in?"
Mila let out a breath and thought for a moment, "Well I do believe there is something in the higher power. I'm not sure what that is yet. I also believe in the power of the universe and what you put out is what you get back. I believe that there is evil in the world. So if there is evil there has to be good. But I'll let you know tonight if I want to go with you or stay with mom."
"Sounds good kiddo. Now go get ready for the day. Think Aunt Angel is going to be taking your mom out for a little while. You and I are going to go shopping with Uncle Brian." Andy said, ruffling the top of Mila's head. Her daughter nodded and rushed up the stairs. Andy smiled and followed her out of the kitchen. She had to get ready too. Brian and Angel would be by soon.
If Lynn was still asleep she wouldn't wake her. She wanted her to get some sleep. She reached the master bedroom, which was still weird to them. But they made due. She slowly opened the door and saw Lynn still sleeping. It was only eight forty five. She had an idea. She closed the door softly and went to her old room and knocked on the door. She heard Mila's footsteps and then the door opened.
"So, are you still a little tired?" Andy asked.
"Yeah, a little why?"
"Well, your mom is still out like a light. I'm gonna text Aunt Angel and tell her to come by later in the day. I think it's because mom is still kind of recovering from all the excitement. So if you want to go back to sleep you can, or I can ask Uncle Alex and Uncle Ethan to come and pick you up." Andy said.
"Think I'll sleep too. I want to be able to stay awake tonight for the party. I'm sure it's going to be a little draining after meeting everyone."
"Okay, it's almost nine. Set an alarm for about two, and we'll go from there. Sound good?" Andy asked with a smile.
"Sounds good, I'll see ya in a few hours." Mila smiled back.
"Get some sleep. I love you." Andy said kissing the top of her head.
"I love you mama, I'll see you in a bit."
Andy smiled and walked back to her room. Before she opened the door she took her phone out of her pocket and sent a quick text to Angel and Brian. Saying how Lynn was still asleep and how she wanted her to rest. She instantly got a reply back saying that they were hoping she would say that because they had a late night last night.
Andy chuckled and shook her head. She put her phone back into her pocket and slowly opened the door. Once she was in the room she closed the door slowly and started to take off her shirt and sports bra. She grabbed the controller to her PS4 and quickly found a movie. She hit play and set the controller down on her night stand. She took her phone out of her pocket and set an alarm. After putting her phone on the night stand, she climbed into the bed and laid back.
She turned to her side facing Lynn and kissed her forehand. Lynn moved closer to her and Andy just smiled. She put her arm around her and pulled her close. Within moments her eyes closed and it wasn't long until she was asleep. Peace. What she wanted after a whirlwind of the last year and a half. Peace.

"No, I seriously think my mom went overboard with the Christmas decorations." Andy said to Brian as they walked out of the store with Mila.
"But I love it! I never had a real Christmas before." Mila said with a smile holding Andy's hand.
"Just wait until the camp out. Gotta love last minute shopping in Boston." Brian said, trying to not bump into people.
Andy chuckled, "Well, it's down to the wire. The girls and Alex are at Lynn's parents house wrapping up stuff. While the rest of us will be at my place. We only have an hour then, we have to get going since things kick off at seven." Andy said looking at her watch.
"Well, we wrapped a lot last week. Come on let's get something to warm up are bodies." Brian said, opening the door to the cafe. The line wasn't too bad and they were able to place their order, pay, and their drinks were ready pretty quickly. They left the cafe and started to walk towards the townhouse.
"Oh look Ethan and David are here." Andy said and Mila rushed up to them and gave them hugs. Andy smiled, pulling out her keys to unlock the door.
"Cutting it close there buddy." Ethan said with a smirk.
"Oh hush, Lynn needed some sleep. I was up at seven thirty, made breakfast with Mila and we went back to sleep. You know what mom's gonna do to me tonight." Andy said unlocking the front door and everyone walked in.
"This is true. I have to join you guys as well otherwise Susan's gonna kill me." Ethan said, stomping out the snow on his boots.
Once they all got settled Brian and Ethan started to move the couch and then the table out of the way. They gathered their things and everyone went right to work. They were laughing and having a good time. Andy looked at her watch and knew they were just barely going to make it.
"Hey where's Justin? He didn't come to London." Andy pointed out.
Brian, David, and Ethan looked at each other. Andy looked between them trying to figure out what's going on. It was as if they were trying to figure out who was going to break the news to her.
"Guys! Where's Justin?" Andy asked again.
Ethan sighed and nodded, "Well, you know how Justin was just the touring drummer."
"Well, yeah, but he was still part of our little family. I mean, that shouldn't stop him from seeing us." Andy said, still confused.
"Yeah we know. But the thing is sometimes touring drummers don't want to renew their contracts. Justin has actually been working on a lot of side projects and his art. So he wanted to try something new. We wanted him to renew the contract. We really did, but he wanted to go his own way, which we understand." Brian explained trying to tie a ribbon around his present.
"We thought Lynn told you." David said, cutting up some wrapping paper.
Andy shook her head picking up the discarded wrapping paper. She finished wrapping her presents and started to clean up. "I mean we had a lot going on. I just haven't seen him since we got back from Okinawa and I haven't heard from him in a while. Is he coming for the camp out?"
"We don't know. Lauren says he's gone radio silent. She doesn't even know." Ethan said standing up and stretching.
"Well, I'll try to see if I can reach out. It's just so weird. So who's going to drum for you now?" Andy asked.
"Cam, for now until we find someone else. We planned to go on tour in January." Brian said putting all his wrapped gifts together.
Andy nodded, "Mark called me last week and asked if I could be part of the tour. I have to talk to Mila's school to see if they can give her school work and stuff so she could come with us."
"I'm going on tour?!" Mila said jumping up. Andy's eyes went wide. It was supposed to be a surprise for her. They were going to tell her tomorrow.
"Don't tell your mom I spilled the beans. She's gonna kill me!" Andy said looking at her daughter with a panicked look.
"I promise! I can't wait to tell my friends." Mila said. Andy put down the trash bag and went up to Mila and gave her a small smile. She sat across from her and took her hand in hers.
"Um, kiddo, you can't tell your friends right now. I know you want to and I know it's exciting, but if you tell your friends two things will happen."
"What two things?" Mila asked with a sad look.
"One, they'll be happy for you but, jealous and won't believe you. Two, they'll think you're bragging. So what I would do is just say you're going to be out of town for a while, because of your parents' work. That's all." Andy explained.
"Well, what about posting stuff on my profiles?"
"That we would have to talk to Melissa about. I'm sure it will be fine since we do it all the time. But just as a precaution we're gonna to talk to Melissa. I'm sorry to ruin your excitement. But you saw what happens when certain people know where we are."
Mila nodded, "That sounds reasonable."
Andy smiled and leaned forward and kissed her forehead, "I'm sorry kiddo, we just want you safe."
"I know mama, thank you. I'll be surprised tonight or tomorrow. Whenever you decide to tell me again." Mila said with a smile.
"I trust you. Now, go get washed up and dressed. We gotta leave in twenty minutes." Andy said, giving Mila a gentle pat on her knee. Mila stood up and rushed up the stairs.
"Dude you realize your wife is going to be almost seven months pregnant." Ethan pointed out.
Andy nodded, "Yup, but she wants to do it anyway. There's no arguing with a pregnant woman. It's a small tour anyway. Nothing too huge."
"I know. I'm actually gonna sit this one out." Ethan said
"What? Why?" Andy asked as she started to get her presents together.
"Alex and I talked about it, we love each other and don't mind being around each other. But we just want to have a little time away. You know us being together twenty four seven kind of stresses us out. So we wanted to try something new. Kind of like what you and Lynn do. Even though you two seem like you're together all the time you're not. You both do your own thing and then you both come back together. Alex and I never really had that. So we're gonna try that and see what happens." Ethan explained putting on his jacket.
Andy nodded, "Makes sense. You have your lives together and you have our lives apart. I mean, even the last tour I would venture out and so would Lynn. Then, we would meet back at the tour bus and after the show we would catch up."
Ethan nodded, "Exactly. We want to do that. Plus I need to ask you to help me plan something for the camp out. Make sure you have your guitar." He said as he grabbed his gifts and walked out of the townhouse.
"Um, okay? What's going on?" Andy asked following him out with her own gifts.
"We'll talk in a few days." He said with a smirk.
They loaded up Andy's truck with gifts in the bed of the truck. Andy and David tied down the gifts and then put the tarp over them since the weather channel called for snow. Mila came rushing out with a big smile on her face. She couldn't wait for this party.
Brian came back out carrying Andy's guitar case, "Are you going to do anything new for us?" He asked as he placed the guitar under the tarp.
Andy smirked, "Wouldn't you like to know." She said opening the truck door for Mila and Ethan.
*************************************************************************
Andy walked into the kitchen of Tim and Cathy's house. She let out a sigh and grabbed a water bottle and opened it. She took a few gulps and let out a sigh. All of Lynn's relatives were asking Andy about Lynn's pregnancy. She felt as though her brain was going to explode.
Ethan rushed in and grabbed a cup of punch. He downed it within seconds. He let out a sigh and shook his head. He looked at Andy and was still shaking his head, "You would think after two years together Alex's relatives would calm down with the questions."
Andy chuckled and couldn't help but think of the last time they were in this kitchen trying to get away from the questions.
"Remember the last time we were in here trying to get away from questions." Andy said with a chuckle.
Ethan smiled, "Like it was yesterday. Our first Christmas here, and we felt as though we couldn't get away fast enough."
Andy was about to say something when Mila came rushing in. She grabbed a bottle of water, opened it and took a few gulps. She shook her head and let out a breath, "Mama, Lola won't leave me alone. She's asking why I'm not in a dress and she keeps talking about putting me in Sunday school. I don't understand."
Andy put down her water bottle on the table and pulled up a chair. She sat down and gently put her hands on each of Mila's arms, "Okay, what else is my mom saying to you?" Andy asked.
"She's really keen on me to come to church tonight. I don't want to. I was thinking about going with you, but now Lola is making me not want to. I'm sorry, but I don't want to do something someone else wants me to do. Because it's a family tradition." Mila tried not to let the tears fall.
Andy sighed and gently touched her daughter's cheek, "Sweetheart, you don't have to do anything. I'll talk to my mom. I told you that I'm not going to shove this stuff down your throat. I want you to decide. You can come to church when YOU want to, not when she wants. This is your choice. It's what YOU believe." Andy said.
Mila nodded and Andy opened up her arms and Mila took a couple of steps towards her and hugged her. Andy held her tight and kissed her daughter's temple, "By the way, I like your outfit. I would have gone with the black pants and the nice gray shirt myself." She felt Mila chuckle and then nod. They let go of each other and Andy gently wiped away Mila's tears.
"Stick with mom, or Lolo, they're more understandable when it comes to making your own choices." Andy told her softly and Mila nodded.
Ethan smiled watching his best friend be there for his Goddaughter. He knew Andy would make an amazing parent one day. Being there and watching her calm down her adopted daughter just made his heart swell up with pride. He was about to say something when Brian came into the kitchen.
"Hey, sorry to interrupt but Andy, you're up. Since we can't leak anything from the new album, we just finished up some Christmas songs. Lynn actually sat this out too. So it was me and Alex with Angel. Wasn't too bad, but Angel couldn't get in tune with us. But don't tell her I said that." Brian said with a worried look.
"Secret is safe with us." Ethan said with a chuckle as he gave Brian a pat on the back.
"Okay, let's go." Andy stood up and held out her hand for Mila to take. They walked out of the kitchen and Mila stayed close to Andy until they found Lynn. She was sitting on a chair facing the piano and Mila rushed up to her. Lynn smiled and put her arm around her and kissed her cheek.
"Where did you run off to?" She asked as Andy came up to her and kissed the top of her head. She gave her a wink and as always Lynn blushed.
"I'll tell you later. But when mama goes to church tonight can I stay with you?" Mila asked.
"But I thought you were gonna go with your mama to church?" Lynn asked concerned. She looked up at Andy.
"Like, Mila said she'll tell you later. I gotta get up there." She gave Lynn a quick kiss on her lips and walked up to the piano. She saw her guitar and picked it up from the stand. She put the strap over her shoulder and started to tune it. Once she got it to where she wanted it she strummed it and played a few cords. She cleared her throat and started to strum softly.
"Merry Christmas everyone!" She said with a big smile and everyone cheered and wished her a Merry Christmas as well.
"As most of you know Lynn and I tied the knot," she started to say, and the room was met with loud cheers.
"We also started our family with Mila, and of course Lynn being pregnant." Andy said seeing Lynn and Mila smile and blush a little.
"I wasn't around much last year. I was touring all over the world, and trying to make enough to be able to support my growing family. Lynn, our parents, a few select others, and myself kept our marriage a secret and we had to go around like we had broken up. We only did that because of what happened with the false magazine article that came out.
I'm sure all of you know what happened in London. We have the situation handled and have been working with the proper people. We're okay and we're safe. Now, while I was one my travels I was able to write some songs and also do some ghost writing for some artists. This was a tough choice, but I was able to pick a song. This song inspired me because I was trying to get to Brian and Angel's wedding on time." Andy explained.
Brian and Angel smiled and looked at each other lovingly then back at Andy. She gave them a nod and started to play the melody of the song she was about to do.
"I had to get to the wedding, I wasn't going to miss it. I also had to get to my wife. I knew if I didn't show up she would have been worried sick. She would have to put on a face of not knowing where I was, but I kept her updated every second. I just had to get back. So during my delay I came up with this song, and I actually sent it to a singer friend of mine. I'm sure you've all heard this on the radio. If you have, sing along. So let me shut up and get on with it. I hope you enjoy." She smiled and took in a deep breath. She hummed a little to get her voice warmed up and then she began to sing the fastest song she ever wrote.
"Another open road, another midnight highway
For this wayward soul, mmm, but if I had it my way
I’d close these miles, I wouldn’t be this far
From everything I know, from where you are
Mila smiled holding her mom's hand, "Do we do get to this every year?" She whispered to Lynn who smiled and nodded.
"Every year. Thanksgiving in Virginia, Christmas and New Years here. You'll see the camp site the day after tomorrow." Lynn said with a wink.
"I can't wait!" Mila smiled and put her arm around Lynn's shoulders. The two turned their attention back to Andy.
Wherever I’m headed to, walls I’ve gotta break through
I’m gonna make my move, mmm, I’m gonna get to you
Can’t get there fast enough, gonna crash into your love
Do what I have to do, I’m gonna get to you
Mmm, gonna get to you
"But honey, don't you think Andrea should enroll her in Sunday school just like she was?" Susan asked Kevin.
"Hon, Mila is Andrea and Lynn's daughter. If they don't want her to come to church or go to Sunday school because Mila doesn't want to so be it. Let them raise her the way they want to raise her. Also you forget Mila is fourteen. She's old enough to make her choice."
"But-"
Kevin held up his hand to his wife, "Your daughter is putting on a performance. We will talk about this later. Stop trying to control everything."
I’m gonna kiss your face, it’s gonna start a fire
I’m gonna say the words, mmm, let me break this silence
I’m gonna make a scene, mmm, get under your skin
I’m gonna shout it out, ah, let the truth rush in
"I'm so happy they're together. I was worried that Andy would have to leave again." Cathy said resting her head on Tim's shoulder.
He smiled and kissed his wife's forehead. "I can't believe our little girl is a mother. She and Andy are going to be great parents. They already are to Mila."
"I'm so proud of her. I can't wait to teach Mila our family recipes." Cathy said and Tim nodded in agreement.
Wherever I’m headed to, walls I’ve gotta break through
I’m gonna make my move, mmm, I’m gonna get to you
Can’t get there fast enough, gonna crash into your love
Do what I have to do, I’m gonna get to you
Mmm, gonna get to you
"Should we wait until the camp out, or should we spill the beans tomorrow?" Angel asked.
"Hmmm, how about tomorrow. I mean you did make all those little boxes. Besides, Andy and Lynn said they have a couple of announcements to make tonight. So we can give them the big news tomorrow." Brian said with a smile.
"I'm so excited! I can't wait to tell them!" Angel told her husband as she gently squeezed his arm. Brian smiled and gave his wife a kiss on her cheek.
I’ll run, I’ll walk, I’ll climb,
No matter what it takes, gonna get by your side
"Any news?" David asked Kara.
She shook her head, "Not yet, there's still some paperwork that we're waiting for. We've been non stop with this. But Melissa told us to take the next few days off. Then, take a few more when New Years comes."
"Well, I'm glad you're gonna be here for the camp out this year." He said, pulling her close to his side.
"Me too babe." Kara said with a smile.
Wherever I’m headed to, walls I’ve gotta break through
I’m gonna make my move, mmm, I’m gonna get to you
Can’t get there fast enough, gonna crash into your love
Do what I have to do, I’m gonna get to you
Gotta keep going, gotta make my move
Ooh, I’m gonna get to you
(Song and Lyrics By Matt Wertz)
"You okay babe? You've been a little distant the last couple of days." Alex said looking at Ethan.
"I'm good. Just worrying about you guys on tour and me staying at home. It's gonna be a little weird is all." Ethan told him with a weak smile.
Alex nodded, "I know what you mean. But if you think about it, it'll bring us closer together. Even Dr. Lange said so."
Ethan nodded again, "I know. I'm just gonna miss you. This'll be the longest we've been away from each other in about two years."
"I know baby, but we'll get through it. I'll always come home to you. Remember that."
"I love you so much." Ethan said softly.
"I love you too." Alex said just as soft. The two gave each other a small kiss. When they pulled away they smiled at each other and then turned their attention back to Andy. She just finished the song, and put the guitar back on the stand. She went over to Lynn. She and Mila helped her stand up.
She put her arm around Lynn's waist and the three of them stood in front of the crowd, "We have a couple of announcements to make." Andy said with a smile.
"First, we want to give something to Mila." Lynn said with a smile and nodded towards Wendy. Andy's sister came up with a manila folder and gave Mila with a smile. She then hugged the young her tightly and went back to the crowd.
"So Mila, one tradition I do have in my family is that every Christmas Eve we open one present that someone chooses for us. Lynn and I wanted to have you open this gift." Andy said with a smile.
"What is it?" Mila asked.
"Open it and find out." Lynn said, trying to hide her tears of happiness.
Mila slowly opened the folder and started to read the words. She had to reread everything because she couldn't believe it.
"Is this real?" Mila asked, letting her tears fall.
"What does it say honey?" Tim asked from the crowd. He already knew but he wanted Mila to say it out loud.
"To Mila, even though we already welcomed you into our family we would like to officially welcome you to our family. As of December twentieth two thousand twenty, your adoption has been approved. We can't wait to share our life with you and we couldn't ask for an amazing daughter. We love you and we can't wait to see where our future goes with you. Love, your Mama, and Mom." Mila dropped the rest of the papers and rushed up to Andy and Lynn and held them tight.
Lynn let her tears fall and let out a small laugh. Andy kissed the top of Mila's head and held her close. The crowd cheered and Wendy couldn't help herself. She rushed up to them and put her arms around the small family. Pretty soon Mila's Godparents decided to join in.
Andy cleared her throat and dried her eyes. "We have something else to announce." She said, and everyone but Mila backed away from them waiting to hear the news.
Andy looked at Lynn and kissed her temple. They talked about this for a while and it was Andy's idea for Lynn to make this special announcement.
"Now we know you all have been asking a lot of questions about the baby. I hope what we're about to tell you will answer all your questions." Lynn started to say.
"Are you having a boy or girl?"
"When are you due?"
"Are you staying in Boston or moving to Virginia?"
People started shouting out the same questions they were hearing all night. Andy held up her hand and smiled, "We're getting there."
Lynn smiled at Andy then turned her attention back to the crowd, "Last week we got some shocking news. Before we get to that, we've decided to stay in Boston. My official due date is April nineteenth twenty twenty one. We miscalculated at the wedding."
"Looks like you'll be sharing your birthday dad." Andy said looking over at Kevin.
He smiled and waved her off, "It'll be the best birthday present ever." He said and the crowd laughed.
"Okay, now onto the big news." Lynn said with a nervous smile.
Andy put a hand on Lynn's stomach and smiled. Lynn looked at her wife and put her hand over hers. Andy kissed Lynn's forehead letting her lips linger for a moment longer. Mila also put her hand on top of theirs and they both smiled.
"It seems that we will be a family of five instead of a family of four." Lynn said and the room was quiet for a moment.
"TWINS?!" Angel shouted.
Lynn laughed and put a hand over her mouth and nodded. Angel didn't miss a beat, she rushed up to Lynn and Andy putting her arms around them and holding them close. The two best friends were in tears and laughing. Andy was able to sneak away and she saw Mila's face and smile.
"Big news huh kiddo?" She asked.
"You're telling me! How are we going to do this?!"
Andy smiled and put her arm around Mila, "We're going to be just fine. Don't you worry."
***********************************************************************************************
"I can't wait for them to grow up together!" Angel said, taking a sip of her campfire hot chocolate Andy made.
"They're going to be so close in age too! I'm excited. What if you had a boy and we had girls?!" Lynn asked excitedly.
"OR the opposite! Ooo OR, OR, all girls and they still get together." Angel said. The two went back and forth about the future of their kids.
Andy shook her head as she strummed her guitar. She looked around and couldn't help but smile. This year Kara, Wendy, and Mila were with them. She did reach out to Justin to see if he would be able to come, but he never responded to her. Even Lauren was concerned. They even showed up at his apartment only to find out he never moved in when he said he did. So they planned on taking a trip to Pennsylvania soon.
She just wanted to make sure he was okay. He hasn't been in touch since he helped them move in and she was worried. Hopefully he would reach out soon. Ethan was sitting next to her and she could feel his nervousness.
"How much have you had to drink buddy?" Andy asked her best friend.
"Honestly only two drinks. I don't know if I can do this." He said, shaking his head.
"Look, how about I just start the song and you just join in wherever you feel. Sound good?"
Ethan nodded, "What would I do without you?" He smiled at her and nudged her with his shoulder.
"I could ask you the same question." She said with a chuckle.
She started to slowly strum the melody as well as hum along. She nudged Ethan to join her and he smiled. He gave her a nod and she nodded back. That was her cue to start singing the song.
"Forever can never be long enough for me
To feel like I've had long enough with you
Forget the world now, we won't let them see
But there's one thing left to do
Now that the weight has lifted
Love has surely shifted my way
Everyone stopped talking and turned their attention to Andy and Ethan. Ethan had his eyes close because he couldn't look at Alex. He just hoped that his answer would be the one he wanted to hear.
"What's going on?" Angel asked Lynn. She just shrugged and shook her head.
Brian and David looked at each other with knowing smiles. Brian wanted to tell Alex so bad, but he couldn't. This was something he had to keep from his best friend.
Marry me
Today and every day
Marry me
If I ever get the nerve to say "Hello" in this cafe
Say you will
Mm-hmm
Say you will
Mm-hmm
Ethan joined in this time and everyone was surprised. Especially Alex. They all didn't know he was going to sing tonight.
"Okay so is your brother proposing to Kara?" Angel asked.
Lynn shook her head, "No, he said he wanted another year or two." After a few moments Angel grabbed Lynn's arm. She figured it out.
Together can never be close enough for me
To feel like I am close enough to you
You wear white and I'll wear out the words "I love you"
And you're beautiful
Now that the wait is over
And love has finally shown her my way
Mila and Wendy were watching with excitement. They don't know what's going on, but this was their first camp out with everyone and they were loving it. Fifteen minutes to midnight and they couldn't wait to see the fireworks.
Kara and Alex were confused. Sure, they would sing some songs, but this was different. Alex noticed Ethan was keeping his eyes closed the entire time.
Marry me
Today and every day
Marry me
If I ever get the nerve to say "Hello" in this cafe
Say you will
Mm-hmm
Say you will
Mm-hmm
At this point in the song Ethan stood up and walked over to Alex. He held out his hands for his boyfriend to take. Alex put down his beer and placed his hands in his. He stood up and Ethan smiled at Alex.
"Is this really happening right now?" Alex asked him.
Ethan didn't say anything. He just smiled and Andy decided that this next part of the song she wasn't going to sing. She knew her best friend would be okay at this point to ask the question he's been wanting to ask for the past three months.
Promise me
You'll always be
Happy by my side
I promise to
Sing to you
When all the music dies
"Oh my God!" Lynn said with a smile and she put her hands up to her mouth to hide her smile. She couldn't believe this was happening.
"I knew it! I knew it!" Angel said, hitting Brian's arm.
Kara smiled and wrapped her arm around David's arm and rested her head on his shoulder. She was so happy to be here to witness this moment.
And marry me
Today and everyday
Marry me
If I ever get the nerve to say "Hello" in this cafe
Say you will
Mm-hmm
Say you will
Mm-hmm
Marry me
Mm-hmm"
(Song and Lyrics by Train)
Andy stopped strumming and Ethan got down on one knee. He opened up the small box and there was a ring just like his. The blue Tungsten design Alex got him for their first Christmas.
"Alex, we started off as friends and then we just grew together. I knew I loved you the moment we left Sydney. I don't know why, but I knew it was love. These past two years have been stressful, yet wonderful at the same time. I can't see my life without you."
"Oh my God!" Alex said, trying not to let his tears. fall.
"With that being said, Alex Edward Babinski," Ethan took a breath and let it out.
"Will you marry me?" Ethan asked looking up at Alex.
All Alex could do was nod, because he couldn't find the words to say. He just kept nodding and he let out a soft sob. Ethan let out a sigh of relief and put the ring on Alex's left ring finger. Ethan stood up and pulled Alex into a kiss.
Everyone stood up and started to cheer as the couple kissed and held each other close. Andy went over to Lynn and sat next to her.
"So it looks like this is going to become a thing. Second proposal at this spot." Lynn said as she kissed Andy's cheek.
Andy nodded in agreement, "Seems like it. Think we should do this indoors for the next few years until the babies are old enough to stay out in the cold."
"I was thinking the exact same thing. But let's not worry about that tonight. Tomorrow we can worry about all the baby stuff." Lynn said, putting a hand on her stomach.
"You sure you want to wait until they're born to find out if they're boys or girls?" Andy asked.
Lynn nodded, "Yes, I want to be surprised. Plus we have that small tour and really don't want to have a gender reveal. I just want to have this one thing. I also know that one of them would have spilled the beans by now."
Andy chuckled and shook her head, "Well, Nina kinda did back in Okinawa."
Lynn sharply turned her head to her wife, "What did she say?! Wait, no, don't tell me. No tell me! No wait don't! Ugh! No! We have a few more months. White and yellow. That's what we're sticking with."
Andy smiled, "Okay, the nursery is almost set up. Can't believe we never noticed that room before."
Ethan came up to them and handed Andy a shot glass. Before she could protest he held up his hand and turned slightly to talk to Lynn.
"I already know you and Andy agreed she wouldn't drink while you're pregnant, but seeing as I just got engaged, and she's my best friend. I am asking you, her wife, if it is okay for Andrea to have a shot with me."
Lynn laughed and nodded, "Yes, I grant permission for my wife to take a shot with her newly engaged best friend."
"Told you!" Ethan shouted at the others.
"SHUT UP ETHAN!" They yelled back.
Andy shook her head and stood up, "Told ya, it doesn't get old." She raised her shot glass and smiled at Ethan, "Okay everyone hold up your drinks."
Everyone turned to Andy and Ethan with their drinks raised in the air. Andy smiled and nodded for Alex to come join them. He nodded back and went up to them and put his arm around Ethan's waist.
"Here's to Ethan and Alex. May these next years bring you nothing but happiness and love. There will be hard times. There will be easy times. But remember, you will always have each other. Even when you're apart you will find your way back to each other. Always. I love you both. I can't wait to see what you two are going to do down the road. To Alex and Ethan!"
"To Alex and Ethan!" Everyone shouted. They took a sip of their drinks. Ethan and Andy took their shots and then David told them it was almost time for the fireworks.
Andy and Mila helped Lynn stand up and with their help they made their way down to the water to watch the fireworks. Once they reached the water she said she saw some of her friends and asked if it was okay if she went over to them.
Andy and Lynn nodded, long as she was able to stay in sight and to be right back after the fireworks. Mila said she would be. She rushed off and they watched her hug one of her friends. Andy looked around and saw Wendy standing with someone she's never seen before. But by the looks of the way Wendy was acting with him, she knew. But still Andy was cautious.
She was brought out of her thoughts when she heard the crowd counting down. She smiled and looked at Lynn. She'll never forget the New Years Eve when she asked her to be her girlfriend. It felt as though it was just yesterday. But here they were, married, and starting a family. She couldn't ask for more.
Andy didn't even watch the fireworks start. She just couldn't keep her eyes off of her wife. She was so beautiful. She couldn't wait to see what the future holds for them. Good or bad Andy would never give up on her. Or their family.
"Happy New Year." Lynn said softly bringing Andy out of her thoughts and she bit her lower lip.
"Happy New Year love." Andy said just as softly. They slowly leaned in and their lips met just like many times before. Both still had the heart racing, and minds going mile a minute feeling. Since the first time they kissed in the airport in Norfolk. This spark wasn't going out anytime soon.
Once they pulled away they rested their foreheads against each other, "How did we get here?" Lynn asked with a soft smile.
Andy moved a strand of hair from Lynn's face and playfully kissed the tip of her nose, "I don't know. But I love where we're going."
"Me too. Me too."
They leaned in once more and their lips met softly. The world vanished around them. For a moment it was just the two of them in the world. For a moment that's all that mattered.
***********************************************************************************************************
"So did you guys pick a venue out?" Andy asked her best friend and she put the final screw into the crib.
Ethan nodded, "Not yet, but we don't know if we want a destination wedding or have one here." He told her as he started to collect all the debris off of the floor that came out of the boxes.
Andy nodded knowing where he was coming from, "When do you leave for Wisconsin?" She asked putting her screwdriver away in her tool box.
"Next week. Mom can't wait. She has our room all set up and everything. She's excited that her son is FINALLY getting married." Ethan said, rolling his eyes but smiled at Andy.
"Looks like the distance helped you two. You both seem to be communicating more. Also you both have been glowing so fucking much I feel like I need sunglasses when I'm around you two." She finished with a laugh closing her tool box.
Ethan blushed and kept his back turn to her. Andy looked at her best friend and could already tell what was going on. The tour was a short one. They toured from mid January to the end of February. But Andy had to leave the tour at the end of January because of her galleries. Wendy was with her. They opened them early so that way Andy would be able to get back on tour. Once the tour was over Lynn was put on strict bed rest. Angel and Wendy were over almost every day helping Andy out.
Andy didn't even ask. They offered because they knew Andy had to finish the nursery. Lynn was able to help by dictating what she wanted from a rocking chair. Andy tried her best to keep her temper in check. She just did whatever Lynn wanted her to do because the last thing she wanted to do was fight with her very pregnant wife.
Mila helped Andy paint the room a certain white Lynn wanted and Andy pointed out she couldn't tell the difference between white and mist yellow. It looked white to her. That almost caused a small fight, but Andy bit her tongue. From that point on she kept her mouth shut.
Brian, Alex, Ethan, and David would drop by every now and then to help Andy with some house work or just putting things together for the babies. Lynn's due day was approaching soon and they just had about everything done.
Cathy was really helpful with shopping. Making sure Andy got the right things they needed for the babies. With the help of Tim, Andy and Lynn were able to get a new SUV so they would have more room. Andy didn't want to give up her truck. That truck has been with her for so long and she put a lot of work into it. She told Lynn flat out she would not be selling the truck no matter what.
Lynn wasn't going to sell her Honda. She told Andy it was the first car she bought on her own, and she wasn't going to give it up. So they decided that they both make enough to afford a new car. Andy's truck was already paid off and Lynn's car would be paid off in the next couple of years.
So now they were the proud owners of a Dodge Durango. They picked black because it's their favorite color and the type is because it was big enough for what they needed.
Now here they were. Andy finished up the nursery for the babies with Ethan. Mila was in her room doing homework. Angel was with Lynn in the master bedroom gossiping like always.
"So is she able to get up every now and then?" Ethan asked, tying up the trash bag.
Andy nodded, "Yeah. To go to the bathroom, shower, take small walks. The only problem we have is if she wants to come down stairs. But she's done it. Just because she's on bed rest, that doesn't really stop her from trying to do things. She was on her laptop yesterday making music."
"But they just released their third album." Ethan said following Andy out of the room with the boxes.
"Oh, I know, trust me. But she's always creating something. I'm not going to stop her. It's keeping her mind off of things." She told them as they reached the bottom of the stairs.
He stayed behind her as she opened the back door and they went down the steps. There was still some snow on the ground so Andy was trying to be careful not to slip. She opened up the recycle bin and Ethan put the broken down boxes in it. Then he opened up the trash bin and put the trash bag in it.
They both wiped off their hands and walked back into the house. Once they were inside they went back up the stairs and Andy knocked on Mila's door. She waited a few seconds and then, she opened the door.
"Hey kiddo, what do you want for dinner?" She asked her daughter.
Mila turned in her desk chair and shrugged, "I don't know. Can mom have pizza? We haven't had pizza in forever!"
Andy chuckled, "Yeah, let's go and see if mom wants some. You done with your homework?"
Mila looked at her text book and worksheet, then back at Andy, "For the most part. I already learned all this on tour. So this is just extra credit at this point."
"Well, take a break for a few and let's see if mom wants pizza." Andy told her and she watched as Mila stood up and rushed out of the room and went straight to the master bedroom. Angel was laying next to Lynn and they were both laughing.
"Oh! Stop making me laugh Angel! I swear my water will break if you keep this up!" Lynn said, wiping her eyes.
Ethan was laying on the other side of Lynn wiping his eyes as well. Mila hopped onto the bed and Ethan moved over so she could fit in between her mom and her Uncle. Lynn sat up some and put her arm around Mila.
Andy smiled crossing her arms and leaned against the door frame watching what was going on. She couldn't resist. She uncrossed her arms and took out her cell phone from her right pocket. She unlocked it and then tapped the camera icon. This is one moment she wanted to capture. Her best friend, her wife's best friend, her daughter, and her wife, all smiling and having a good time.
She saved the pictures and put the phone back into her pocket. She leaned against the doorframe and put her hands in her pockets just watching them. This is what she needed. What she wanted. Nothing could ruin this. Not this time. Not this year.
Alexz was standing outside of Andy's townhouse, smirking. It wasn't going to be long before Andy was right where she wanted her. She heard footsteps coming towards her. She didn't need to see who it was.
"Don't worry Alexz, we'll get her soon enough." Serenity said.
"Oh I know. We just have to wait a little longer that's all."
"Maybe not for too long. Come on there's someone I want you to meet. She's going to take Lynn out of the picture for you." Serenity said putting her arm around Alexz's shoulders and they started to walk away from the townhouse.
Serenity looked back at the house and smirked. She had this plan for Andy since the beginning and it was finally being put into motion. All she had to do was get Lynn out of the way.
