Kelly smiled as Jill waved good night before walking into the spare bedroom she was staying in.
"I guess I should bring my stuff back to the room down here now that Meghan's gone, huh?" Kate looked at her with a hint of sadness.
Kelly rolled her eyes, linking their pinkies together as she led them up the stairs and into her room before closing the door.
"You don't mind me staying?" Kate asked, watching as Kelly pulled out something to change into. "I mean, you don't want your bed back to yourself?"
"It's a big bed," Kelly shrugged. "Besides, you have questions, right?"
"Yea," she nodded quickly.
Kelly laughed at her eagerness, "Ok then, well go on and get comfortable. I need to go wash my face real quick."
Kate smiled at her before digging through her bag, pulling out something to sleep in. She changed quickly before climbing onto the Texan's bed, sliding under the covers.
"You all set?" Kelly smiled as she walked back out of the bathroom.
"Yea," Kate nodded, watching as Kelly walked to the wall to turn off the lights. She felt the shorter girl getting into bed as her eyes started to adjust to the darkness.
"Where are you?" Kelly held out a hand.
Kate took it, lacing their fingers together, "Why'd you turn off the lights?"
"So you wouldn't have to worry about me teasing you for blushing when you ask about my sex life."
"I wasn't gonna ask about your sex life...I mean...I was kinda curious...but I don't wonder about it...well, I do...but not like that...I don't picture you having sex or anything like that."
Kelly giggled.
Kate groaned.
"You're blushing."
"So much for darkness."
Kelly laughed, rubbing Kate's hand with her thumb, "So did you have fun tonight?"
"Yea, I did. You're friends are great...even if they do push you..."
"It's not really pushing if they don't realize it," Kelly replied. "Besides, if you didn't know, you probably would've been doing the same thing."
"No," Kate shook her head.
"No?"
"You were uncomfortable. I could see it in your eyes. I would've still seen it even if I didn't know, and I wouldn't have pushed you."
"So, where do you want to start?" Kelly gave her hand a gentle squeeze.
"How many people have you slept with?"
"I thought you weren't gonna ask about my sex life?"
"Well, might as well now..."
Kelly smiled, "Three."
"So you slept with every girl you dated?"
"Why? Are you trying to see what you need to do to get into my pants?"
Kate hit her arm.
"Ow..." Kelly rubbed it carefully. "I was just joking."
"Why do you love teasing me so much?"
"Because you look ridiculously cute when you're flustered."
"It's dark. You can't see me."
"It's second nature by now," she shrugged. "And no...I haven't slept with every girl I dated."
"So wait..." Kate thought for a moment. "You slept with a guy?"
"Yes," Kelly laughed.
"What's so funny?"
"We've had this discussion already, you just don't remember."
"When I was drunk?"
"Mmhmm. I think your words were: 'Boys are yucky.'."
"Did I really say that?"
"Yep. It was quite amusing, really."
"Remind me never to drink again."
"And where would the fun in that be?" Kelly questioned.
Kate smiled, "Yea, yea...so a guy, huh?"
"Yes, a guy, but that's a story for another time. How about we stick to girls for tonight, ok?"
"Ok," she nodded. "So, two out of three...my guess is the first girl and Michelle..."
"How you figure?"
"Well, you dated Michelle the longest, right? So that only makes sense. And then the first girl, when you and April were talking about who you dated the longest you said something about the first night and how you didn't actually start dating until a week or so later...I just assumed..."
"That the first night was a drunken one night stand?"
"Yea..." Kate replied nervously.
"Well...you're right. On both counts. You're quite observant, you know that?"
"No, I just pay attention. Plus, you're easy to read."
"Only to you."
"Because you're always open with me. Why is that?"
"If you can read me so well, what's the point of hiding anything?"
"Bit of a paradox we have going on," Kate laughed softly.
"Looks like it."
"So, the one that wasn't good enough for you..."
"Which one?"
"There was more than one?"
"Just depends on who you ask, and how much they know...April didn't really know the first girl I dated. I wasn't out to her then."
"Oh. So Michelle was the only real good girlfriend you had?"
"Yea, she's a sweetheart...well, you know, you've met her."
"Why didn't it work out between y'all, then?"
"Well, we had fun and stuff, but we only slept together like twice...after that we started kissing less...we just kinda shifted back to the just friends stage, which is easily where we belong."
"It wasn't...I mean, was it not..."
"Was the sex horrible?" Kelly offered.
"Yea," Kate felt her cheeks heating up.
"I wouldn't say it was bad, it just wasn't great. We were missing that spark, you know?"
"Yea."
Kelly brought her hand up to her lips, kissing her knuckles. She felt Kate's thumb trace along the bottom of her jaw lightly.
"What happened with the third girl?" Kate asked softly. "April said she used you?"
"Jenn," Kelly replied.
"Jenn...," Kate nodded. "Wait a minute..."
Kelly frowned as she stared up at the ceiling in the dark.
"Jenn, as in Jennifer? As in the chick from your management?"
"Yea."
"Where has she been? I haven't seen her since like Daytona."
"I told Jeff to get me someone else. I thought I could be professional and deal with it, but I just couldn't do it anymore."
"I thought she was straight. I mean, she has a boyfriend now, right?"
"Having a boyfriend doesn't make you straight," Kelly reminded.
"So she's not?"
"She says she's unsure. I think she is."
"Is?"
"Straight."
"What happened?"
Kelly sighed, "I don't know. We were good friends. I mean, you have to be when you're hanging around someone that much or else you'll just be miserable."
"Which is why you told Jeff to pull her off your case."
"My case?"
"Well whatever you want to call it."
"Yea," she laughed softly. "This was back last summer. It was a rough summer, and I was worn down, so I guess I use that as my excuse for not thinking right."
"What do you mean?"
"She so isn't even my type," Kelly shook her head. "She's very much about appearances and what people think and partying and the fame aspect of the business."
"Then why'd you date her? Just looking for something to get you out of the funk you were in?"
"We didn't really date. Three just sounds better than two."
Kate laughed.
"But yea, I guess that's why I let it happen. She just started to get really flirty with me, and I mean, you're right, I was just looking for something, you know? So when she kissed me, I let her. When she kissed me again, I kissed her back. We made out a few more times over like the next week or two...then she said she wasn't sure if she wanted that. So we stopped. I didn't push it because I wasn't really into it to begin with, I guess."
"Then what happened?"
"Something else happened?"
"You are way too patient and understanding to let something like a girl questioning things to make you not want to hang around her anymore."
Kelly smiled, squeezing her hand, "Then Jeff approached me about it."
"About the two of you being together?"
"About me being gay."
"He didn't know?"
"Nope," she shook her head. "He had suspicions though..."
"Oh no..."
"Oh yea..."
"Jenn did that just to find out if you were gay or not?"
"Yep. And I mean, it's not the fact that I was really into her that hurt, because I wasn't--"
"No, but you were really good friends with her," Kate argued.
"Exactly."
"How could they do something like that?"
"People suck. You'll learn that in this business."
"Why the hell didn't you fire Jeff right then?"
"Because right then wasn't a good time for me," Kelly reminded. "I was going through a lot. Plus at the time, I may have been out to like four people? Not including the two girls I dated. I was afraid he'd out me, and I wasn't ready for that. I was trying to figure stuff out...I'm still trying to figure stuff out."
"I'm so sorry," Kate scooted closer.
"Everybody's got their share of sucky relationships, right?" she shrugged.
"Man, I wish I had known that back at Daytona. I was nice to that girl."
"So...what? You would've been a bitch to her?"
"Definitely."
"No you wouldn't have," Kelly laughed.
"Yes, I would have. I can't believe she did that to you."
"You don't have a bitchy bone in your body."
"I do when it comes to you."
"Yea?" Kelly's head turned to her at the sureness in her voice.
"Y-yea...I don't like people messing with my friends, you know?"
"Yea," Kelly smiled. She placed a hand behind Kate's head as she reached up, kissing her forehead gently. "How about we get some sleep? We can continue down this road of KC's crazy history another time, ok?"
"Ok," she replied softly.
"Sleep well," Kelly touched her cheek.
"You too," Kate nodded, watching as Kelly laid back down, letting go of her hand as she curled up on her side, facing away from her.
+++++++++++
Kelly bumped into Ashley as she walked out of bedroom, yawning.
Ashley looked over her to see Kate still sound asleep in her bed, "Y'all slept together last night?"
"We slept in the same bed," Kelly corrected.
"Same thing."
"No, it's not," Kelly closed the door softly. "I know how your mind works."
Ashley smiled, "Y'all do realized that Jill's little girlfriend is gone, so Kate can go back to sleeping in her own bed, right?"
Kelly shrugged as she led the way down the stairs, "We wanted to talk."
"Y'all talk a lot."
"Jealous?" Kelly teased.
"No, I like my best friends best when they don't wanna get in my pants...weird, I know."
Kelly laughed.
"So nothing happened?"
"Nothing happened."
"Let me know when something does?"
"Why?"
"So I'll know that when it's just the three of us in a room that I should get the hell out so y'all can start going at it."
Kelly pushed her playfully as she sat at the island in the middle of the large kitchen.
"So good talk or bad talk?"
"We talked about Jenn."
"So bad talk," Ashley nodded.
"I don't know...it's weird with her."
"Kate?"
"Yea."
"Why?"
"Because, I don't know, we talk about some serious stuff sometimes, but I wouldn't call it a bad talk. She's a very good listener, you know? Like she gives you her complete attention, I love that. And it just feels good talking to her...I get to feel closer to her, and I like that feeling."
"How'd she react?"
"To what?"
"Jenn."
"She said that she wished she had known back at Daytona so she would've been able to be a bitch to her," Kelly laughed softly.
"She's protective...cute," Ashley smiled.
"Not protective. She's just a genuinely good person."
"She is," Ashley agreed, studying her for a moment before turning to pull out a box of frozen waffles from the freezer.
"What?" Kelly asked curiously.
"Nothing."
"Liar...why'd you ask me how she reacted?"
"Just curious," she shrugged.
"Because..."
"Because you are really open with her...about everything," Ashley pointed out.
"Yea, so?"
"So...whether we believe it or not, the girl claims to be straight," Ashley placed a couple of the waffles in the toaster, pushing the button down before turning back to her. "Aren't you ever worried that you're gonna say too much?"
"She doesn't have a problem with me being gay," Kelly reminded.
"No, I know, it's just...I don't know..."
"She doesn't really talk with Jill about this stuff," Kelly admitted, scratching the counter top with her nail. "Like, they've always been very open about it, and Kate's hung out a lot with Jill and the girls she dated, but they never really talked specifics."
Ashley watched her carefully.
"That's what you mean, right?" Kelly looked up at her. "You're worried that I'm too open with her...that maybe I'll say too much and scare her off or something..."
"I was just wondering if you were worried about that. You know her better than I do."
Kelly nodded.
"Are you?"
"No," she replied after a moment of thought. "She's never once seemed uncomfortable when we were talking. She's definitely blushed a lot, but never in a bad sense. Actually, she's usually the one pushing the topic further, wanting to know more."
"Curious," Ashley winked, placing the plate of waffles in front of her before moving the heat up her own.
"I wish," Kelly sighed. "I'd so take curious right now. I'd gladly let her test out all her curiosities on me."
"You're so crushed out," Ashley laughed.
"It's bad," Kelly agreed.
"Yep...but you still wouldn't."
"Still wouldn't what?"
"Take curious."
"You give me too much credit," Kelly shook her head.
"You care too much about her and about y'alls friendship to take curious."
"How do you know?"
"Because if you didn't care so much, y'all would've kissed a long time ago...and y'all definitely would have slept together the other night."
"You know about that?" Kelly looked at her, guilitily.
"Jill told me," she nodded. "I have to resort to hearing it from third parties now, but yes, I heard."
"Sorry."
"No biggie," she smiled, taking her plate of waffles and sitting next to her. "But, I'm right about you caring too much, and you know it."
"Yea, which is why I'm totally screwed."
"You think?" Ashley questioned.
"All I'm ever gonna get out of it with her is curiosity."
"Unless you put a few drinks in her," Ashley teased.
"Even then."
"Why? What'd she say that night?"
"I want you. I want you to show me how it can be," Kelly recited. "Curiosity."
"You have a real good memory for someone that was supposedly drunk that night."
"I sobered up pretty quick when I realized how drunk Kate was."
"You care too much," Ashley nodded.
"It's a curse," Kelly poured syrup over her waffles.
"I do think you're wrong, though."
"About?"
"Curiosity."
"Come on, Ash," she rolled her eyes. "I want you to show me how it can be...doesn't get much more curious than that. We had had a discussion about oral sex earlier that day, and I told her how great it can be with a girl. That's what she was referring to."
"You're forgetting the three little words she said before that," Ashley took the syrup from her.
"I want you?"
"Doesn't get much more straightforward than that."
Kelly shook her head, taking a bite.
"Ok, girl with the perfect memory...think back to that night. Remember the look in her eyes when she said that--when she told you that she wanted you? Was there anything curious about that look?"
Kelly felt a shiver move down her spine at the memory of the look in Kate's eyes when she had told her that she wanted her as she pulled her closer, leaning in.
"Once again, I'm right, and you know it," Ashley smirked, taking a bite of breakfast.

Kelly's brows furrowed as she read over the email her lawyer had sent, dealing with Jeff's contract. "Yea?" she answered at the knock on her office door.
"It's me," she heard Kate reply from the other side.
"Come on in," she didn't look up as the blonde walked into the room, closing the door behind her.
"Working hard?"
"Yea, something like that," she laughed softly, pulling a chair next to her.
Kate sat beside her, watching as her eyes scanned quickly over the screen.
"It's about Jeff," Kelly explained, feeling Kate's gaze on her. "About figuring out how to fire him with the least amount of damage."
"Is that possible?"
"What do you mean?"
"He seems like a bit of a diva..."
Kelly smiled, turning to her, "I ever tell you how much I like you?"
Kate giggled.
"So what's up?"
"Nothing," she shrugged. "Just wanted to see what you were up to."
"You were bored? We can ride the go carts or something if you want."
"No, I'm fine," Kate assured. "I just hadn't seen you all morning."
"Yea, I've been in here trying to catch up on some stuff."
"Are you caught up?"
"Almost," she nodded.
"Can I stay? I won't make too much noise or anything."
"Sure," Kelly laughed softly. "It's not very exciting, though."
Kate nodded, folding her legs up under her, "Do you ever get bored with this part of it?"
"I'm always bored with this part of it," she smiled, looking back at her computer. "But doing this part means I get to do my favorite part which is perform, so you just gotta grin and bear it, you know?"
"Yea."
"Check this out," Kelly opened another email revealing a sketch of a large stage.
"What's that?"
"Jeff's idea for the set up for the tour."
"Wow. It's very...loud."
"Yea," Kelly agreed.
"How much say do you have in the matter?"
"I have final say in everything I do."
"Does that ever get to be too much?"
"Sometimes," she admitted. "It can be hard when you stop to think of all the people that have money and jobs riding on your decisions."
"How do you not let it get to you?"
"I've learned that it's best to just not think about it, because if you do then you're gonna be miserable."
"So are you gonna tell Jeff to take his sketch and shove it?"
"It's not all bad. There's some decent ideas in it," Kelly laughed, opening another email.
"What?" Kate asked as the Texan's smile faltered.
"It's the sales figures...for the tour," Kelly pointed out.
"What does it mean?" Kate looked at the page full of numbers, confused.
"That I was right," she frowned.
"People aren't usually upset when they're right."
"I was right in the fact that now wasn't the right time for a tour, especially not one this big...damn it."
"Is it not selling?"
"Not enough."
"What does that mean?" Kate looked at her worriedly.
"Nothing you should be worrying about."
"Is it gonna be cancelled?"
"I don't know."
"But..."
Kelly squeezed her knee gently, "Again, it's nothing you should be worrying about, ok? I always make sure that my band is taken care of...that includes you and Jill."
"Kelly..." Kate put her hand over the shorter girl's.
"I need to make a phone call--I need to talk to Jeff. I know I said you could stay, but I'd rather you not be in here for this," she squeezed her hand.
Kate nodded, standing, "Is there anything I can do?"
"Promise me you won't worry about this too much? Why don't you go find Ashley and make her play guitar hero with you? Go have fun, ok?"
"Ok," she watched as Kelly brought her hand to her lips, kissing the back of it softly before letting her go. "I'm really sorry--" she began.
"Kate..." Kelly warned with a smile.
"I know, sorry...no worries," Kate nodded. "Got it."
"Good. I'll come catch up with y'all after this. We'll go out for pizza or something."
"Sounds good."
"Good," Kelly nodded, watching her walk out of the room. She took a deep breath before picking up her cell phone.
+++++++++++++
"Hey," Ashley walked up behind Kelly in the kitchen as the shorter girl stood in front of the refrigerator with the door open.
"Want something to drink?" Kelly offered.
"Are we talking alcohol?"
"I'm game if you are."
"I'll do a shot with you," Ashley nodded.
Kelly laughed softly, closing the refrigerator and moving to the cabinets, pulling out a bottle of whiskey and two shot glasses.
"So what's going on?" Ashley questioned as Kelly filled the two shot glasses. "Kate seems bothered by something."
Kelly held up her shot glass, and Ashley did the same, both of them quickly downing the drink. Kelly winced, shaking her head, "Dang..."
"Yea," Ashley laughed in agreement. "What is that stuff?"
"It's been in there for a while," Kelly shrugged as she turned the bottle, reading at the label. "The tour may be cancelled."
"What?" Ashley's eyebrows flew up. "Why?"
Kelly looked at the whiskey bottle, contemplating pouring another shot.
Ashley took it away from her, "What's going on?"
"It's not selling," she shrugged. "Who could've predicted that, right?"
Ashley frowned at the sarcasm in her voice, "Kelly..."
"Ready to say I told you so, yet?"
"For what?"
"I should've fired Jeff a long time ago," she shook her head. "You and Jason...y'all were all right about him. I've let him get away with far too much, and it's finally come back to bite me in the ass."
"This stuff happens. I mean, you just did like four tours back to back. You can't expect to sell out an arena tour right after."
"I know that, and I knew that, but I just let him do it anyway. What sucks the most, is that once word of this gets out it's only going to make people question the album even more."
Ashley looked at the whiskey bottle in her hand before pouring a shot and pushing it towards her best friend.
Kelly shook her head, pushing it away, "No...I told Kate we'd all go out for pizza or something tonight."
"We don't have to go if you're not in the mood," Kelly frowned at Kate's soft voice.
She turned to find her walking timidly into the kitchen, "Hey."
"I take it the phone call didn't go very well?"
"I think I may have made up my own curse words," she forced a laugh.
Kate eyed the two shot glasses, before taking the full one and drinking it.
Kelly raised an eyebrow.
"Figured I'd level the playing field," she coughed.
Kelly and Ashley laughed.
"You ok?" Kelly rubbed her back.
"What the heck is that?" Kate wiped her eyes.
"Some shit Kelly's been hiding for like twenty years," Ashley replied. "It's got quite a kick to it...be careful."
"Little late for that," Kate laughed.
"So, you ready for pizza?" Kelly asked.
"We don't have to, if you're not up for it," Kate shook her head.
"Nah, I think it'll be fun," she looked at Ashley who nodded. "Besides...I'm in a better mood all ready," she winked at Kate before bringing the shot glasses to the sink.
"I'll go find Jill and Jason," Ashley offered.
Kelly nodded, watching her walk out of the room.
"You're honestly in a better mood?" Kate studied her carefully.
"Yea, it's funny how a beautiful blonde with an amazing smile can do that."
Kate blushed at the sincerity in her voice.
"I told you not to worry," Kelly reminded with a soft smile. "And I meant it. Everything's gonna work out for the better."
"How are you always so optimistic?"
"God wouldn't give me anything I couldn't handle," she shrugged simply.
Kate smiled.
"Come on," Kelly held out her hand. "Let's go get some shoes on. Once Jason hears the word pizza, he'll be fussing because we're taking too long to get out the door."
Kate laughed, taking her hand and allowing her to guide her up to their room.
++++++++++
Kelly let out a slight shriek as she felt herself being tackled to the bed. "Ok," she laughed as Kate rolled off of her with a grin. "That is the last time you are allowed to have sweets this late at night."
Kate giggled, helping Kelly up into a sitting position.
"So you had fun tonight?"
"Did you?"
Kelly smiled, "Do I even have to answer? I can tell by the look on your face that you're trying to read me."
Kate blushed guiltily.
"So, tell me...did I have fun tonight?"
"I think you had a lot of fun tonight," she nodded. "I've noticed that you are very good at allowing yourself to forget about certain things and just enjoy the moment."
"You gotta have fun sometime," Kelly shrugged, scooting back against the headboard.
"Yea, I had fun too."
"Yea?"
"Yep," she nodded again, folding her legs so that she was sitting indian style. "So..."
"So..." Kelly mocked, pulling her closer so that she was sitting right in front of her.
"The talk with Jeff was that bad?"
"Unfortunately."
"Is it ok...can I ask why?"
Kelly smiled, "Why are you still hesitant to ask questions sometimes?"
"Well, this is business...it's not really my place."
"And my love life is?"
"We're friends. Friends talk, right?"
"Right," Kelly nodded, her hands resting lightly on either of the blonde's knees. "But seriously, never worry about asking something. I doubt there's a question that I wouldn't answer for you, and there's definitely not a question that would make me upset with you."
"Ok."
"So, Jeff, right?"
"Yea."
Kelly sighed, "So, you know how I've been saying that the only reason I'm keeping him around is for this record? And how I know, people may not agree with his way of doing things, but he wants to get this record out just as badly as I do?"
"Yea..."
"In a way, I think I was kinda right, but for all the wrong reasons."
"What do you mean?"
Kelly shook her head, frowning.
Kate slowly smoothed her hands up the Texan's arms.
"I'm sorry, I'm just kinda aggravated with myself, you know? I should've listened to everybody, but I mean, Jeff did so much for me and my career in the beginning."
"A little too much..."
Kelly looked up at her.
She shrugged, "You may not remember the very first time we met, but I do. You were the biggest artist in the world at the time."
Kelly scrunched her nose in thought, trying to remember.
"It was your second tour off of Breakaway," Kate reminded. "You were extremely sweet. Jill and I were the last ones in that meet and greet, and I just remember being in awe at how much time you took with each fan, making sure they were able to tell you everything they wanted, and you kept signing multiple things for each one, even though the rule was you could only sign one per person, and it amazed me that you were able to be like that after a long concert, you know?"
Kelly could feel goosebumps rising as Kate trailed her hands back down her arms.
"Then we met you, and you gave that huge grin of yours that could melt anyone's heart, but what caught my attention was your eyes....just like they always do. I had never seen anyone look so tired in my life," she shook her head. "And you were so little...you looked fragile."
Kelly's jaw clenched.
"I'm right, aren't I?" her hands smoothed down the shorter girl's thighs.
"Jeff's never cared about me," Kelly admitted. "He cared about my career, and making sure that I was the biggest artist on the planet, but he never cared about me as a person. We got into a lot of arguments over that last summer with the tour and everything. He couldn't comprehend why I wouldn't want to be the biggest artist on the planet. I just want to make music..."
Kate nodded.
"Jeff is a really smart business guy. If I knew that this wasn't the right time for a tour, then he had to have known."
"What are you saying?" Kate questioned. "You think that he planned this tour, knowing it would fail?"
"Maybe..."
"But, why would he do that?"
"I did this album because I needed to. I needed to get it out of me, and I felt like my fans needed to see this side of me. I did it for the music."
"Right."
"I didn't do it to keep my crown as pop princess or whatever. I didn't give in when the record company said it was going to flop. I don't care about those things..."
"But Jeff does," Kate nodded.
"Jeff does...so I can't help but wonder, if this was all a way for him to kinda teach me a lesson, almost. Like, see, this is what happens when you don't care about popularity--people stop caring about you."
"Kelly..."
"I meant, the public," Kelly corrected, squeezing one of her knees. "Like the not selling out the concert thing, not that people don't actually care. I know y'all care."
"What I don't get is that Jeff's been with you for every step of this album. He's the one that's been fighting the record company for it...would he really go through all that to sabatoge it? I mean, you've said that you've fought with your label before, but that hasn't hurt you yet."
Kelly's brows furrowed in thought.
"Kelly?"
"You don't think..." Kelly felt her stomach turn. "You said Jeff was there through it all, and that he was the one fighting the record company..."
"Yea?"
"You don't think he's the one that leaked the fight to the press to begin with, do you?"
Kate's heart broke at the hint of desparation in the Texan's eyes, "Honestly, I can't say either way...but I wouldn't say that it's out of the realm of possibilities."
Kelly shook her head, her eyes watering.
"Shh..." Kate soothed, placing a hand behind her head, and pulling her to her. "I'm so sorry," she rubbed Kelly's back as she cried on her shoulder. "You're the last person that deserves any of this."
Kelly wrapped her arms around the taller girl as Kate pulled her fully onto her lap, hugging her tightly.
"It's gonna be ok," Kate kissed her hair, feeling her own eyes burning at the feeling of the warm tears against her shoulder. "You knew he was an ass...that's why you're firing him, remember?"
"But I trusted him," Kelly argued.
"I know," Kate held her closely as Kelly buried her face in her neck. "And I know that hurts. Betrayal is one of the worst things ever, but you're gonna be alright. After all this passes, you'll still have your family, and your friends, and despite what that dumb ass label of yours thinks, you'll still have your fans, and you'll still have me, and trust me because I've seen it--all of those people love you so much, Kelly...so much that later on you're gonna look back on this and wonder why you let someone like that lame ass excuse for a manager upset you like this."
Kelly sniffed, curling up against her.
Kate smiled softly, resting her chin on top of her head, "In fact, you're gonna be more than alright. You're gonna be so much better because, I know you, and I know you're gonna take this as an opportunity to learn and to grow, and it's all gonna turn out for the better."
"You think?" Kelly questioned, her voice thick with tears.
"I do," she nodded, squeezing her gently.
"Thanks."
"It's what I do," she shrugged, earning a soft laugh from the girl on her lap. Her smile grew and she tilted her head down, kissing the top of her head. "See?" she whispered into her hair. "I heard that laugh...you're gonna be perfectly fine."
Kelly giggled lightly into her neck.
Kate laughed, "Yea, yea, I know...I called you fine...you're such a dork..."
