Upon arriving home, Kyo found that Die had gone out as well. He fed Mayu and her kittens before going to the bathroom and starting up a bath. The water wasn’t as hot as it was before, but he scrubbed just as hard as last time. Kyo cleaned himself inside and out, trying to get the feeling of his father’s fingers on his skin away. Giving a shaking sigh, he unplugged the bath tub and dried himself off carefully. Moving to the bed room, he put ointment on his skin and pulled on some underwear and pajamas. He climbed into the bed and waited there for Die to come back home.
Die had taken the opportunity presented that day to go visit with his friends. They had sort of lost touch with each other ever since Kyo had gotten pregnant. Die had been spending practically day and night with the boy for the duration of his pregnancy thus far, but he hadn’t minded, really. By the time he got home, however, he was itching to see what Kyo and his mother had bought, as well as to simply see the boy.
Hearing the door close, Kyo jumped slightly and propped himself up on his elbow. He looked at the door almost fearfully, praying that his father hadn’t followed him home. A sense of relief filled him when he heard Die’s voice filling the house, calling for him. He stood from the bed, shooing some of the kittens out of the way as he moved back to the living room. “Hey…” Kyo said softly as he took a seat on the couch. “We didn’t get everything; I had to come home early because I wasn’t feeling well.”
“Is it something bad or do you just feel a little under the weather? Is your blood sugar acting up?” Die asked with concern, sitting next to Kyo. He reached up and stroked the boy’s red hair gently, checking his face for any signs of serious illness. The last thing he wanted was for Kyo to pass out on him again.
“I’m just feeling a little ill, that’s all.” He said, flinching slightly when Die’s hand made contact with his head. Kyo gave a nervous smile before moving to stand from the couch. “Here, let me show you what we got today.” Taking the box, he pulled it over to the couch where Die was now sitting. “It’s the crib. We got her a light pink color. We also got her a light pink changing table for her too. Those are the big things, other than that, we got her some clothes, blankets, bedding things, and also some toys. We didn’t get to get her a high chair or things like that though. We can go out again sometime.”
“Sure,” Die said, nodding. He grasped Kyo’s hand in his own and held it for a moment, enjoying the fit of the smaller appendage in comparison with his own. “I’ll set this up for you in the room we chose.” Not that night, though; he wasn’t particularly in the mood to do it. He was more interested in making sure that Kyo was alright. “You should take it easy,” Die remarked, “I’ll make you some soup or something later if you get hungry.”
“Alright… Thanks, Die.” He gave a small smile and released the other’s hand, pulling his free. “I’m going to go lay down…” Kyo waved at him before disappearing back into the bedroom. His back rested carefully on the door and slid down to sit on the floor. He sucked in a shuddering breath and rested his forehead on his knees. Oh, how badly he wanted to tell Die what happened, but the fear of his father’s threat loomed over him, preventing him from doing so.
Pulling himself up from the floor, Kyo moved to climb into the bed, curling up under the covers and sniffling softly. He was weak, a worthless whore. He didn’t deserve Die, not one bit. The boy pulled the covers over his head and held back a soft sob as he curled up as tight as he could. Feeling the bed dip, he frowned when he heard Mayu give a soft meow. “Not now, Mayu.” He said as he pushed her off the bed. She gave a disgruntled sound and got back up on the bed, only to be pushed off once more. Finally, she gave up and pawed at the door to be let out, hoping Die heard her.
Die leaned back on the couch for a moment, shutting his eyes. A gentle pressure on his leg drew his attention down. Taiki was pawing at the leg of his jeans, gearing up to climb his way up. The redhead reached down and scooped the feline up and placed him on his leg, stroking the kitten’s skinny body slowly. Loud purrs issued from Taiki and he pushed into the touch with obvious enjoyment.
The sound of plaintive meowing from the bedroom made Die move from couch to let whichever cat was trapped in the room out. Mayu streaked out through the opening and made a beeline for the couch, settling on the back of it. Her tail swished in agitation, and she mewled in an equal fashion. “What’s wrong with you?” Die asked, mostly for his own benefit. For a moment, he considered asking Kyo if something was up with the cat, but he didn’t want to bother the boy.
Kyo gave a sigh and snuggled into the bed, closing his eyes and hoping for sleep, but it didn’t come. Just when he needed it, it wouldn’t come to him. He gave another sigh and sat up from the bed, his stomach rumbling softly. Looking to the clock, he saw that it was time for his dinner and decided to approach Die about it. Tentatively, he made his way out of the room and into the living room. “Die… I’m kind of… hungry.” His voice was soft as he moved to take a careful seat on the couch. The rash on his limbs from bathing was finally starting to bother him, but he knew it was best not to let Die know.
Nodding, Die stood up and made his way to the kitchen. He set about making the boy some soup in hopes that it would be light enough not to bother the boy’s stomach. For added measure, he made a sandwich and halved it, setting aside the other part in case Kyo still felt hungry. “Here you go,” Die said, placing the food on the coffee table and taking a seat next to Kyo to watch television.
Reaching out, Kyo pulled the soup to himself as he leaned forward. He ate it slowly and took care of blowing the steam away. Looking over to Mayu, he reached out to pet her, but she batted at his hand. Sighing, he went back to eating his food, but he couldn’t seem to bring himself to eat the entire slice of sandwich.
Kyo drained most of his soup, but only took a few bites out from the sandwich before placing them both down. He seemed uncomfortable to Die and it concerned him. Gently, the taller male reached out and drew the boy against his side, hoping that Kyo would warm up a little and relax.
The boy jumped slightly before sighing and shaking his head at himself and relaxing slowly against the taller redhead. He sighed and looked down at the floor and urging himself to relax more. Looking back up at the television, he leaned heavily against the other. He felt something crawl into his lap and looked down, finding Taiki and his sister, Asuka climbing into his lap. He couldn’t help but smile and reach down to pet the two little mewing and purring kittens.
Idly, Die reached over and stroked one of the kittens, petting a tiny head affectionately. Pulling back, he placed his hand on Kyo’s knee and rubbed there indolently. Leaning over, the taller male pressed a kiss to the boy’s red hair gently, lingering there for a long moment.
The hand on Kyo’s knee started to make him feel uncomfortable. He shifted his legs slightly and drew them up close so his legs were tucked under him neatly. The boy kept his eyes on the television screen, but he was hardly paying any mind to what was going on. His hand stroked the kitten’s soft fur as they crawled around in his lap.
Die frowned to himself, noticing something different about Kyo that evening. He wondered if maybe the other was angry with him for something. The boy kept avoiding his touches and seemed to be keeping his distance physically, as well as emotionally. Maybe he was annoyed that Die hadn’t offered to go shopping with him earlier or maybe it was just a mood swing. The boy was pregnant, after all; he was entitled to his share of hormonal funks.
Kyo looked back to Mayu, finding her watching him carefully as he handled her kittens. Reaching up, he let his hand hang in front of her nose so she could sniff his hand. She sniffed it carefully before giving up and rubbed her face against his hand. It made the boy smile and pet her carefully, glad that she forgave him.
“I’m going to get a shower,” Die said, feeling a little unwelcome on some level. He stood from the couch and headed for the bathroom, shutting the door behind him. He turned on the shower and waited for it to heat up while he stripped out of his clothes. Kicking away his jeans, the redhead climbed into the tub and ducked his head under the warm spray, shutting his eyes for a long moment.
The boy nodded and moved to curl up on the sofa. His eyes were listless as he stared at the wall. He felt paws nudge at his sides and legs as Mayu got down and joined her kittens. She tried to get his attention, but to no avail. Giving a meow, she curled up against his stomach and purred with her kittens, Taiki and Asuka, curled up next to her.
Die worked silently, lathering and rinsing his hair. He cleaned his body in equal silence, shifting about under the shower head’s stream and letting the water rid him of the soap. Shutting off the shower, he climbed out, grabbing a towel and drying his hair and body. Wrapping the towel around his waist, Die headed to the bedroom and changed into his boxers and an old shirt.
Kyo sighed and closed his eyes, trying to will himself to calm down, but it wasn’t working. Any thought that came to his mind made him paranoid. What if his father did find him? It was inevitable; they were living close to each other already, so it would have been bound to happen. He wasn’t safe. Standing from the couch, giving apologetic pats to Mayu and the two kittens, he went to the house door and looked out the peep hole.
No one there, good. Reaching up, he locked all of the locks on the door, a bolt lock and the regular door lock. Slightly satisfied, he went to the windows and locked each of them. The weather was getting colder, so they had to stay shut for the winter anyway. Moving back to the couch after grabbing the extra blanket, he curled up there and drew the blanket up to his chin, letting Mayu and her kittens settle around him once more.
Going back to the living room, Die leaned over the back of the couch and looked down at Kyo. The boy was bundled up under a blanket, facing the television with a blank expression. “I’m heading to bed, I think. Do you want to come?” When Kyo ignored him, the taller redhead straightened and turned to go back to the bedroom. Leaving the door cracked slightly, he switched the light off and settled in bed. His face pressed into the pillow for a long, breathless moment before he rolled onto his side and shut his eyes, feeling truly insecure for the first time about where he and Kyo stood.
Closing his eyes, Kyo sighed softly, a small sob escaping his lips. He didn’t deserve Die, but he didn’t want to give him up, no matter how much the other would hate him if he found out what happened. Kyo tentatively stood from the couch, laying the blanket on the cushions and arranging it for Mayu and her kittens to curl up in. Moving to the bedroom, he quietly entered and slowly, carefully settled himself into the bed after closing the door. He kept his back to Die and kept his distance, not sure if Die even wanted him in the bed with him at the moment.
For a moment, Die considered keeping space between Kyo and himself. He sat there in the dark for a few minutes, able to distinguish the boy’s shape in front of him, but hesitant to touch the other. Gradually, Die’s restraint broke and he shifted closer, placing a careful hand on the boy’s shoulder before slipping his arm about the smaller male’s middle. His hand splayed against the swollen area of Kyo’s belly, cradling it tenderly.
The boy flinched slightly, but soon relaxed once he realized it was Die. Carefully, he moved his hand to rest on Die’s. Feeling the baby move startled Kyo for a moment. He felt his breath hitch in his throat as he felt their daughter move again. At that moment, he felt a little more at ease. Turning around, he looked at Die and smiled at him. “I felt her move…”
Die frowned a little, unable to feel what Kyo felt. “Where?” he asked, He wasn’t sure if she was still moving, or if she had just been readjusting herself to compensate for the change in Kyo’s position. With his fingers, he pressed gently into the side of Kyo’s belly, unsure if he had felt her moving or not.
Taking Die’s hand and moving it to where he felt her moving the strongest, he placed it there and held it there. Their baby girl moved again to adjust herself once more, making Kyo give a soft gasp at the odd sensation. He smiled softly and rested his head on Die’s shoulder as he watched Die’s hand.
Oh, there she was… A smile spread on Die’s face as he felt a gentle pressure under his fingertips. What was that? A knee, an elbow, her head? “Does she move around a lot?” the taller male asked quietly, stroking his fingers against Kyo’s belly.
“Sometimes… She reacts to my distress and moves more often. Some days she’s more active than others.” He said as his fingers moved to lace with Die’s. Kyo felt more at ease around him now, feeling safe in his arms. Moving to curl up against Die, he let his hand rest on his stomach.
