Winds of Destiny(Pt23)
Joe frowned at the closed door, he didn’t remembering closing it before coming into the bathroom for his shower. Stepping into the room he stopped upon seeing Nick standing at the chest of drawers.
“What are you doing?” Joe asked.
Nick turned his head and smiled. “Just putting your stuff away.”
“Why?” Joe glanced at the bed noticing Nick’s bags there.
“Well…considering you have been staying in here for the past week, I thought it time to move my stuff and put yours away.”
Slipping on his dark blue shorts Joe replied softly. “Why bother?”
Closing the draw, Nick went to stand in front of him as Joe raked his fingers through his wet hair. “Because this is where you belong Joe.”
“Would be nice if someone else thought the same thing.”
“What do you mean?”
“You haven’t noticed the tension that is still between us most of the time?”
“Of course I have, but that doesn’t mean to…”
“Too give up. I know…I know…” Joe scrubbed his face. “I just wish it could be like before…like ten years ago.”
“Why that far back?”
“Everything was great between us then, we were happy, content and it was before Sav got sick.”
“You can have those days again. That closeness you had before is not going to happen over night, give it time.”
Joe screwed up his face when he mentioned time. “Would be nice to roll the time forward a few years or even just a few weeks and everything would be fine between us.”
“Forward, backward, wouldn't change anything. You are in the now, concentrate on that and not what was or could be. You will just have to be a little more patient.” Nick couldn’t resist the urge to reach up to trail his finger down his neck. “Maybe what Rick needs is a little competition for your affection.”
“With you?” Joe glanced down at his lips. “Oh I don’t know Nick, that always pissed him off, sent his jealous streak running rampart.”
“My point exactly.” Nick replied moving closer to him.
“I…I don’t know about that. It could cause more problems bet…”
Sliding his arm around Joe’s waist, Nick moved closer until their bodies were touching. “I don’t think it will.”
“M..maybe we need a longer break from each…” Joe focused his eyes on him as Nick came closer, barely brushing his lips. “What are you doing?”
“I would like the answer to that myself.”
Joe spun his head in the direction of Sav’s voice as he stood just inside the door, glancing back and forth between them. He jumped away from Nick to nervously smile, then grabbed his shirt.
Nick smirked, clasping his hand together behind his back.
“Well.” Sav shifted his feet.
“We were just talking.” Joe shrugged his shoulder.
“Didn’t look like talking to me, looked like Nick was about to kiss you.”
“I was...” Nick confessed. “…until you walked in.”
“I wasn’t going to k…” Joe started but Nick cut him off.
“I thought a little competition between us, vying for Joe’s attention would help you...”
“Competition…with you…for him…” Sav pointed at Nick then at Joe. He didn’t bother to stop the laughter that rumbled in his throat.
“See, I told you it would piss him off.” Joe smack Nick in the arm.
“No, I’m not pissed off.” Sav came further into the room to stand in front of him. “Amused yes, to think that Nick could compete against me for you, is very funny.”
“You don’t think it is possible for me to win Joe’s affection?” Nick asked.
“No..” Sav turned to him. “..although you could try, but eternity is not long enough for you to win.”
“So, I shouldn’t waste my time.”
“Not a wise thing to do, because you will lose.” Sav patted his cheek, then kissed him. “Nice try though...however, you and Joe can keep up the competition for me, just like you have been doing for the past ninety-five years.”
“Well that’s not fair, ‘cause I always lose.”
“I didn’t think we were competing that much.” Joe cut in.
“We haven’t been Joseph.” Nick smiled. “I have always known my place in both of your lives.”
“Took you long enough to realize that.” Joe chuckled and shoved him backwards, then pulled Sav into his arms.
“Yes, but I can look forward to the time where both of you stray from each other for my company.” Nick boldly kissed both of them. Backing away he picked up his bag. “Joe is in here with you now, where he should be.”
“OK.” Sav replied watching him head to the door.
“Join me on deck for drinks?” Nick asked them.
“Sure…but I need to talk to Joe first…privately.”
“All right, I’ll see you soon then.” Nick glanced between them then left, closing the door behind him.
Joe went over to flop down on the bed, leaning back on his elbows waiting for Sav to start.
“I know we are still working out a few issues between us, but please hear me out before you say anything.”
“Alright.” Joe agreed.
“OK…um…I’ve thought about this most of the night…well since Nick told me he was moving his stuff out of here, but I don’t want him to stay in the sail room…alone. He can stay in here...the bed is big enough for...for the three of us. We have been on trips together in the past, but never shared a room. I don’t know…maybe…w..we could…well you know, we could, maybe for the last part of this voyage, it’s only a few more weeks, we could share the room, the bed a..and each other.”
Joe stared at him, thinking about what he was asking. Taking his jumbled words and put them together. ‘He wants the three of us to stay in this room, in this bed and be intimate for the remainder of this trip.
“Absolutely not.” Joe calmly told him.
“Why not?!”
Joe sat up, still holding is gaze. “I seem to remember that you never wanted the three of us together in that way again, now all of a sudden you do.”
“We owe him that much Joe.”
“I don’t owe Nick damn thing, but a comfortable place in the sun!”
“Oh come on Joe!” Sav huffed. “If it weren’t for Nick, we wouldn’t even be together right now. I know he sent word to you in Nice about where to find us. Just like in Santa Cruz, we left early so you wouldn’t be able to leave the boat. He has done nothing but orchestrate this entire trip, to bring us back together and you know it!”
“So what if he did. It still doesn’t mean I owe him anything.”
“Think about it.” Sav moved to stand in front of him.
Joe rolled his eyes. “Ok..ok, he did play a part in pushing us together, but I think we could have worked it out eventually, we always have in the past.”
“Right, but if he didn’t do that, where would you be now? In that big house of ours…alone, probably so deep in depression you wouldn’t come back.”
Joe looked up at him a moment, then wrapped his arms around Sav’s waist to pull him down on top of him as he lay back on the bed. Against Sav’s protest Joe rolled over, pinning him underneath his body.
“Our house.” Joe whispered, caressing his cheek. “I like the sound of that.” He leaned forward and kissed him. “But I don’t think I would be deep in depression, because you would have followed me home.”
Sav reached up to play with the tiny gold chain that hung from Joe’s neck. “I wouldn’t have been far behind, but we are not at home.”
Joe studied his features, the soft little lines between his brows whenever he was serious about something. “You really want Nick to stay in here with us?”
“Yes I do. Let him know how much we really need him in our lives and how much we appreciate his help.”
“We do?” Joe raised his brows.
“You know what I mean.” Sav playfully smacked his face.
Joe smiled down at him. “I guess we do owe him a great deal of thanks, but couldn’t you think of something else?”
“You could stay in the sail room…alone.” Sav smiled.
“So could Nick.”
“Joooe.” Sav whined.
“I don’t know Rick. You said yourself we still have a few issues to sort out, don’t you think having Nick in here with us, sharing the same bed, doing whatever comes to mind in that bed, will just add to the problems?”
“No.” Sav replied softly. “Nick has always been a problem, so that doesn’t matter where our relationship is.”
Joe stared down in to his blue pleading eyes, then dropped his head to his chest and growling deep in his throat. “I must be crazy, giving in to what you want.”
“You’re madly in love.” Sav replied with a giggle.
“Very much.” Joe raised his head and kissed him deeply.
Sav gently pushed on his shoulder before their kissing could turn into something more. “We can save that for later.”
“aaww.” Joe replied, sticking his bottom lip out and slid from the bed, pulling Sav up as he did.
Both men piled out of the cabin and down the passageway. Nick looked up from his position over Travis and smiled.
“Finished so soon?” He questioned.
“We have to save it for later.” Joe whined and smacked Sav on his butt as he passed by him.
Nick chuckled as did Travis hearing Sav scold Joe for doing it.
“What are you doing?” Joe asked, looking down at the large ocean chart they had spread out on the table.
“Trying to decide on what course to take….this way, which would take us further out to sea or this way, will take us closer to the coast.” Nick traced his fingers along the lines that Travis had drawn out.
“Why the big curves, why not straight this way? A straight line is the fastest way to where you want to be.”
“Not so in this case.” Travis quipped, then circled his finger on the chart. “This area here is a large barren coral reef, one of the few along the coast of Africa, it’s very shallow and the yacht sits too deep in the water to go over it.”
“Ah…OK.” Joe nodded in understanding. “So around, further out to sea, it may give Crystal a chance to see some whales.”
“It’s possible…” Travis said. “..or more dolphins. She loves to watch them when they swim at the bow.”
“Great…further out we go.” Joe smiled and went over to Sav, kissing him and went on deck to bug Chelsea.
Travis chuckled and rolled up the charts. “Well, I guess that is decided.”
Nick waited for Travis to leave then ambled over to where Sav was leaning against the counter. Pressing his body to his, Nick reached up to run his finger along Sav’s forehead. “We must do something about this hair, it covers up your beautiful blue eyes.”
“Cutting it everyday is too much of a hassle.” Sav smiled wrapping his arms around Nick’s waist. “I have something to ask you.”
