We flew out a couple days before the next show. I had to take the wedding dress with me so it could be altered, so Vince sent the WWE Corporate Jet(no pun intended) to pick us up, Mark and Sara coming along with it from Houston. They had brought Marcus, who was now a bit over five months old. His blond hair was growing out to be curly and his eyes a deep green, much to Mark’s pleasure. The little boy was growing so fast, already knowing when someone had said his own name and cooing at everyone around him. And by the gods, that boy was spoiled rotten. He had enough toys, Glenn and I contributing with a little biker teddy bear. Mark got a kick out of that little thing.
When we got to the arena, Arn Anderson was at the women’s locker room waiting for me. Glenn was already down at the guy’s locker room and Arn said he’d go get him. “Linda wants you and Glenn in Vince’s office.”
I headed down to the boss’s office, knocking. The door opened and Shane stood before me, the Boy Wonder in all his glory. He smiled and let me in, asking me to take a seat. I was surprised he didn’t say anything about me nearly killing his sister. I didn’t bother to ask either as Glenn came in, followed by Vince, Arn Anderson, Al, JR, who was now back, and Linda. I started to stand up, but Vince told me to go ahead and sit down. Shane handed his mother a black leather box and stood back. Linda opened it up and handed it to Glenn, who was already in his ring costume, with his black towel over his shoulder. He took one look at the box and laughed.
“Yep this is the “ring”.
He turned it to me and I stood to look at it, snickering at the joke. They had put a miniature WWE regulation-looking ring in the box, made of paper and toothpicks. Someone got bored. I looked at Vince, who was trying his best not to bust a gut, as was JR and Shane. Linda did everything with a straight face, smiling as she took the box back from Glenn and asking Arn for the real ring.
He handed it to her and she showed it to the both of us. The metal was White gold, with a flame etching on the band. The main stone was a Deep colored Ruby perfect cut, the side stones were sideways pear shaped onyx. Glenn took the ring, and looked closely at it, inspecting the inside of the band.
“Oh, how cliché can ya get?”
He showed it to me and I had to agree with him.
“Eternal Flame?”
Linda shrugged. “It fit. You wear a size seven ring right? It’ll work.”
I nodded as she asked what size ring I wore, trying to figure out how they knew because no one had asked me. Glenn strikes again. She looked to Glenn and smiled up at him. “Well Kane. You better go ahead and put a ring on that girl’s finger, she isn’t going to hang around all night.”
He turned to me, taking my hand and smiling. Shane said, “He’d better do it for real, soon. She might not wait on you, Jacobs.”
I turned to Shane and shook my head. “I’m patient.” Glenn smiled and put the ring on my finger, kissing me on the cheek as he did.
He stood to his full height and held onto my hand, looking to Linda and Vince. “Ok. ‘Kane’ is now engaged to Faith. We know what were supposed to do tonight. Are we done?”
Linda and Vince nodded, and Glenn led me out, not down to the locker room, but around the corner and down to the room we were supposed to have our ‘talk’ in tonight. He led me in, looking at how they had set it up. There was little furniture in the small locker room, only a set of three chairs, one would be for Glenn, another for me and the third for Mick Foley. Mick was supposed to be there for my ‘protection’. He was just there to pull reaction for the announcement. A camera would be there too, when was there ever a camera not there?
Glenn sat down in the nearest chair, rubbing his eyes like he had a headache. I rubbed his shoulders as he sat forward. I walked around and sat on the floor in front of him, looking up at him and smiling. He scowled down at me and I asked him what his problem was. He put his hands on my shoulders and pulled me up to him, wrapping his arms around me as I looked around wondering what the hell was going on.
“Thank you.”
He let me go and looked me in the eye, beaming. I asked him what he was thanking me for and he pulled me into his lap. “Mom told me about what you thought of this whole marriage thing. Did you mean the part about cheapening our own wedding?”
I nodded and he held me closer, so close I could feel the calm rhythm of his heart. He held my head near his mouth, whispering low so his deep voice reverberated. “It won’t, I promise. No other day will be as precious to me as the day we get married. And when that day comes, I will be happier than I ever can be. Yeah, this is a show, and we’ll have to be Vince’s puppets for a bit. On our day, nothing could make it cheap, and nothing will make it more precious than the fact it will be the two of us making our vows to each other. Vows from our own hearts. It will be our day.”
I nodded and leaned my head on his shoulder looking at the fake engagement ring. It felt funny to have something so heavy on my hand, I never really wore jewelry except earrings or a necklace, usually the locket. Glenn noticed me shaking my hand and clenching my fingers, trying to get used to the weight.
“You really don’t like that thing, take it off. Unless its during show time or an appearance, I don’t want you to wear it. It’s not mine.” I nodded taking the box he handed me and putting it back inside. I stuck it in my pocket and left it for the time I would have to put it on.
I eyed the clock on the wall and got off his lap. I grabbed his hand and pulled him into a kiss, telling him to go get locked up. He shook his head.
“Thank god you get to keep me after this, I hate being chained up and you know it.”
I gave him a derisive grin and rolled my eyes. “Oh and I do? Hello!” I showed him the light marks on my wrists, left by his games the other day. “Handcuffs! And Hydrocortisone. Kane, baby! Ya burned me!” He grimaced, apologizing again for making me break out.
“I’ll put your medicine on for you later if you want.”
I laughed as we walked out the door. “You’d like that wouldn’t you?”
He nodded as he put his hand on my back pocket. “To quote Mr. Austin, Oh Hell yeah.”
*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*
Mick met me by the back door where I was supposed to be ‘coming in’ from around the beginning of the show. The ever-present camera was there as I came in, Mick immediately asking what I was going to do.
“I’m gonna spring my man. Got him a ‘Get out of Jail, free’ Card”
Mick looked at me like I was nuts, asking how I thought I was going to do it. “If he’s out, he might start up again. He could hurt you too, Faith.”
I pulled an envelope with the Seal of the U. S. Federal court system on it out of my bag, dropping it and the one with his spare clothes on the ground and opening the envelope. I showed Mick some official looking papers, which actually were just recipes typed up from JR’s last cook book.
“A Federal Judge has given me sole power-of-attorney over Kane, his well being and affairs. Not even Taker has authority over him now. Overturned his house arrest and everything. I told Kane I would take care of it. He will not hurt a soul so long as I am around and unless I say he can. I can keep him at bay”
Mick looked wary. “How do you know he’ll listen to you. And how‘d you get power of attorney?”
I reached my left hand with the ring up and moved my hair out of my face as I put the papers back. I made very sure the camera got a quick shot of it as I brought it back down. “They give power of attorney to next of kin. He’ll listen to me. Call it a hunch.”
I started to walk off but he held my arm and turned me to look at him. “Don’t be alone with him. Who knows what he’ll do.”
I shook my head and looked dead in his eye. “Mick, if your worried you come and stay in the room while he and I talk. I have to go find my locker room. In an hour, meet me where they’re holding him. Oh yeah, where are they holding him.”
He pointed to a wall and spoke. “He was too big for the paddywagon here, so they have him in an armored truck.”
I nodded as I walked away. “That would explain why it was swaying that fast back and forth. He hates being cooped up. Drives him completely bonkers. Meet you there in an hour. Oh yeah, read your book. Nice.”
I walked past where the camera was and off in the general direction of the locker room as they cut the segment as Mick yelled after me. “How can you be next of Kin?”
*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*
An hour later I walked up to the rocking armored truck, followed by Mick. I shoved the envelope into one the officers’ hands, standing with my arm’s crossed. The cop knew what he was supposed to do and looked from me to the envelope, asking what it was.
“Statement of power of attorney over Kane. I want him out of there, unlocked and brought to my locker room.”
“Ma’am, we can’t. He’s under house arrest and to be supervised by…”
“There’s an order in there to terminate his house arrest as well. I suggest you let him out of there. Kane does not take well to being cooped up.” For effect, I heard Glenn banging on the inside, probably throwing himself into the side of the empty armored truck with his shoulder.
I looked again to the officer who looked like he couldn’t win over ‘official court documents’. “Alright. Let him out.”
Two of the group stood at the door as another pair opened the back door. The movement of the vehicle stopped, and a loud thud could be heard from inside. They opened the door fully and then the gate and the camera got a good shot of Kane sitting in the middle of the cargo area, swaying himself back and forth. I climbed in, an officer behind me with a gun pointed point blank at Glenn. It was a training revolver, but I didn’t take any chances that this guy was a rookie. I dropped the bag of Glenn’s clothes next to him. ‘Kane’ turned to look at me, towel covering his expression, which was good because he was sticking his tongue out at me. Goofy ass.
I kneeled down to him, stroking his cheek and giving him a kiss. You could see him from the camera now and he looked at me like he couldn’t believe I was there.
“I wont let you get hurt. I’ll protect you this time.” I stood and he tried to go with me. I told him to stay right there for now. He sat back down and watched me as I moved to the back of the truck.
I turned to the officer and walked out of the back of the thing, looking to Mick. “Let him get regular clothes on and bring him down Mick, will ya, I’m gonna go get something and I’ll meet you down there.”
I left them behind again, Kane looking out the back of the truck, Mick and the cops watching me as I walked away.
*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*
I was waiting for them in one of the chairs as they came in. First the Camera, of course, and then Mick and several of the officers as they surrounded Glenn. He was still tied up, but had been allowed to change into regular clothes, a black T-shirt and blue jeans. I got up from my chair and gave atongue- tongue-lashing to the first cop who I had talked to before.
“He is supposed to be unchained.”
“For the safety others, Ma’am.”
“That’s Bull. Unchain him now, or you wont have to worry about him, just me.” They did unchain him and all but two for them filed out, the pair that thought they were going to stay was by the door, hands on their sidearms. I looked dead at them and told them to clear out.
“We’re here for your protection, Ma’am.”
I looked the taller one in the eye, his partner cringing as I put my finger in his face, furious.
“Look. You have five seconds to get the hell out. He will not hurt me.”
“Ma’am…”
I turned to ‘Kane’ who was standing five feet behind me. “Kane, will you hurt me?” He shook his head beneath the towel. “I am in absolutely no danger from him. You on the other hand might be in danger from me. Now. GET OUT!”
They walked out, leaving Mick, Glenn and I in the room with only the camera man to watch us. I pointed to the chairs and invited them to sit. I grabbed a red cooler, which bore the old Stone Cold Logo. I opened it up and asked Mick if he wanted anything. “Looks Like Steve had Beer, Beer, Beer, Beer and a can of Cherry Coke.”
“Had?”
“Swiped it.”
He said he’d take a beer, ‘especially if it was Steve’s Personal stash.’ I handed him one and opened one for Kane. He looked up at me with questions in his eyes as I handed it to him. He took it, staring at the top.
“Drink it. You haven’t had anything to drink or eat in a while have you?”
He shook his head and downed some of it, hanging his head as I sat in the chair across from him, sitting sideways so my feet dangled off the side and I faced the camera somewhat. I fiddled with my Cherry Coke, staring at it as I spoke, acting as thought I was trying to keep my voice calm.
“You want to tell me why in the hell you’re trying to beat the living hell out of everyone around here.”
He looked up and countered. “You want to tell me why the hell you got involved. I asked you not to get involved with anything that happened here.”
I turned to look dead at him, keeping eye contact so I wouldn’t laugh. This was live and we couldn’t screw up.
“I am involved. Not much can be done about it now. If I didn’t you would still be locked up like a damn animal. Do you want to still be caged up?”
He shook his head, downing most of the beer I had given him and crushing the can with his hand. “People hate me.”
“Kane…”
“People hate me, they make fun of me. I am a monster. I was born to destroy. People, lives, everything around me, I am going to destroy. Damn it, Faith. I am a killer, by nature. No one wants to be around me and the damned world hates me. Since the day I was born the world has been against me. I’m a scarred freak, Not worth a damned thing, only good for destruction. I like it.”
“I figured you liked it. Why in the hell do you think that people hate you?”
“They want someone to hate, to fear. They want me to be a monster. The fans, the company. The world expects me to be a monster. So I will be a monster.”
“Is that why you burned Jim and tombstoned Linda? That’s why you completely went after half the roster, including Rob, who has always been a friend of ours?”
“Yes. No one wants me. I’m a damned workhorse around here, I still get called freak and retard. Would you put up with it without going crazy?”
I got out of my chair at that point and kneeled in front of him, my head on his lap. Mick was going to stop me as Kane put his hand on my shoulder, but stopped as I held his other hand, toying with it.
“I want you Kane. I wouldn’t have stayed with you this long and have done what I have to keep you with me if I didn’t. You know that.” I looked up at him and smiled. “Why does what anyone else says matter? Nothing else should matter but you and I.”
“I go without you here. You kept me sane and they sent you away.”
“Vince hired me back. He told Bischoff to leave me alone.”
He nodded and let me stand. I asked him if he wanted another beer and threw him one. I stood in front of him as he spoke, his towel falling off his head. He went to pick it up and I grabbed it away from him. He scowled at me and I threw it around my neck.
“You don’t need this. It’s a crutch. This and that damned mask.”
“I’m ugly.” He hung his head, keeping his face away from the camera that was on him. I walked closer to him, pulling his chin up with a finger, smiling down at him.
“I think you are beautiful. You are the most handsome man I have ever seen.”
“Don’t say it just to make me feel better, Faith.”
I put my hand up, the camera dead on us, with Mick right in line of sight. The ruby shone as I did and Mick looked over at us, his mouth gaping.
“Tell me Kane. You think I am saying all of this just because I want you to feel better. No, I’m saying this because I am you fiancée and one day will be your wife. If I didn’t love you more than my own life and think you were the greatest thing on this planet, would I have said yes? Would I have agreed to marry you if I didn’t think you are wonderful and want to be with you? I’m trying to keep you out of both Jail and the damned nut house. I can not lose you to that. And I wont, I refuse. Kane, the man I love is in there somewhere. I love you Kane. You can be a monster in the ring all you damn well please if you like to do it, but you can’t go on like you have, hurting people for no reason. I won’t have my husband and the father of any children we have, locked away forever.” I sat in front of him, holding onto his midsection as he turned to hold on to me. “I can’t lose you.”
Mick interrupted the moment, putting his hand up and saying he needed to ask a question. Kane turned to him.
“Since when have you two been engaged? And when’s the big day?”
I looked up at Kane as he said he had asked me on my birthday, looking down and stroking the back of my head with a smile on his face. All I could think was ‘nice save big man’. The wedding day we had rehearsed and I spoke up, looking to Mick and smiling up at Kane. “We’re getting Married on October 18th. The night before No Mercy.”
He nodded as Kane stood and helped me up. I put my hand on his cheek and rubbed around his eye where the black staining was. He lowered his head, and if he could have, he would have purred. The man was as damned tame as a kitten, or at least acting the part well.
“I can’t understand about the mask though, honey.”
“People are scared of my scars.”
“Your scars are gone, my love. All healed. Are you going to wear it again?”
He nodded, saying he wanted to. I shook my head and kissed him, getting a nice deep red blush from both he and Mick.
“I love how you look without it. You look better minus the mask. I want to see that gorgeous face. Quit hiding from me.”
He held me tight to him. I pulled away from him after a minute, saying we had to go talk to the fans and Kane had to apologize to Linda and JR later. He acted like he didn’t want to, I insisted. He followed Mick out, leading me as the camera guy caught me looking behind him at his back side and slapping him on it. He looked back at me with a wicked grin as I smiled.
“What! You have a nice ass!”
*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*
We went to the ramp, Mick leaving us at the back. We walked to the ring, Kane giving ugly looks to Jerry, JR and any man that looked my direction. We got on the apron and he was letting me into the ring as we heard the glass shatter. Steve’s theme ripped through the arena as he came out and walked down to the ramp. I moved Kane away from him, keeping Steve back so neither one was provoking the other. Before Steve could even say anything Bischoff came out, the cops from earlier behind him.
“Lock him up! He’s dangerous. He’s a damned menace!”
Steve looked at Kane, standing behind me with his hands on my shoulders. To the fans, it looked like Kane was really damn compliant right now, calm, not trying to do anything but stay close to his woman. Steve looked him up and down, walking over and looking at Glenn’s eyes. Glenn looked wildly at him and was trying his damnedest not to laugh his ass off.
Steve backed up. “He ain’t gonna hurt nobody?”
I shook my head, lifting the microphone to my mouth and speaking. “Kane wouldn’t hurt a fly unless he had to now. He’s sane again. Except, there’s a problem Steve.”
“And what’s that?”
I watched as Bischoff came into the ring, without his little police escort. He stood well back from where we all were. I could feel Glenn’s hands tightening on my shoulders and knew the camera could see it.
“Well see you wouldn’t have had this whole problem if it wasn’t for Bischoff and you, Steve. See Kane told me this Started when Bischoff fired me and then you told Kane to be more of a monster.”
Bischoff stepped back, but Steve held his ground, looking me dead in the eye.
“And what do you plan on doing about it?”
Kane stepped forward, acting like he was going to take on Stone Cold. I turned and held him back, putting my finger on his lips and whispering to him. I calmed Kane down, turning back to Steve.
“Nothing to you. Steve, you did what you thought was best for Kane professionally. Kane can be a monster in the ring if he wants to. That’s fine with me. I know he likes it. He will work on controlling his temper and strength outside the ring. Inside, that’s a different story. I wont control him there. Bischoff, you see, he took away the one thing that has kept Kane sane. Me.” I turned to look at Glenn who was grinning at Bischoff like he was going to destroy him. “Honey?”
‘Kane’ came up to me, taking my hand and holding the microphone to his mouth.
“I want Bischoff.”
The Crowd popped, and Eric backed to the turnbuckle, as far as he could away from Kane. Kane glared at him and I looked thoughtfully at the squirming pile of Bischoff. I turned to Steve, pointing to Eric.
“Just this once Steve?”
Steve told us to go right on ahead as Eric scrambled to get out of the ring. I looked at him and shouted at him as he had Kane’s hand around his neck.
“Oh, Quit being a big baby! It’s just a Chokeslam.”
With that he was up in the air and on the mat, Kane, Steve and I standing over him as Raw was ending. Steve walked up the ramp, shrugging his shoulders as Kane and I got out of the ring, heading to the back.
Jerry tried to stop us, and Glenn was going to attack him. Instead I held Kane and he stood as I walked up to Jerry. I stood in front of the King, stock still. The next second he was on the ground as I threw a nice left jab that Mark had taught Sara and I a while back.
I walked back over to Glenn, who led me out of the arena and into the back. “Nice one, sweetheart. Who ya gonna attack next? Zach Gowan?”
“Nah. He’s a good kid. I was thinking Spanky….”
