A/N: Now, this is where I huddle with Row and Rogue again to work on the plotbunnies.
Catrianna couldn't believe these past couple of weeks. It had taken her some time to adjust to the fact that she was now a married woman. There were times where she'd slip, introducing herself as Catrianna Sinclair rather than Catrianna Ross. Soon, school had gone into full-swing, this being Cat's final year in Undergrad. Questions arose on whether Cat would pursue a master's degree in creative writing or not. Newly married, Cat chose to put the master's degree on hold. Besides, she and Viviana had both partnered up on working on this new fashion line, and it was bound to kick off. In addition, Cat did have to set time aside for her new role as a musician's wife, traveling with him when his work called for it.
Pete and Ivy had announced that they would be getting married in September, squeezing in the wedding just before Ivy's mother found out about her daughter's pregnancy. This had caused quite the stir, as Rebecca was forced to pull back on her wedding planning for the sake of both her brother and future Sister-In-Law.
Even though Cat had her new life with Ryan to tend to, she couldn't help but notice the certain wear and tear all around her. Being the rather sentimental type, Catrianna had often lost sleep in worry. One particular day, Ryan had found that Cat had fallen asleep, sleeping through her classes. Ryan knew that his wife missing class was unheard of. Therefore, he braced himself for her reaction when he woke her up. "BLOODY HELL! Why didn't you wake me?" Cat was hastily rummaging about the room, throwing on some random outfit in a frenzy. Ryan sighed shaking his head. "Cat, I just got home...All-nighter with the band," he reminded her, stifling a yawn as he let himself flop down on the bed.
Cat's demeanor softened some as she sat down on the edge of the bed. "I...I suppose one day...Just one day..." Ryan knew what she was getting at, as he reached, pulling her on him, laughing. She squealed, playfully batting him away before she gave in. She sighed, in a complete comfort zone when in his embrace. "Well, what shall we do with this time together...?" She asked, batting her eyes innocently. Ryan smirked, straddling her. "I think I know," he whispered, as he leaned in to kiss his wife. "Mmm," she responded, returning the kiss. Soon, articles of clothing were removed, and both lay, completely in the nude, fast asleep after their sexual endeavors.
What had actually awakened them had been the phone ringing. Ryan yawned, reaching for the phone. "Hello?" he answered, his voice sounding sleepy. "Mmm...Okay she's here." Cat blinked sleepily at her husband, raising an eyebrow in question. "Becca," he mouthed, to which his wife's eyes widened in reaction as she grabbed the phone. "Hullo?" she asked, having to fight hard to mask her laughter as Ryan had started kissing her along the neck. Covering the receiver, she playfully swatted her hubby. "Ryan! you animal!" she squealed before going back to the phone, this time getting up from the bed as she slipped on a satin bathrobe, tying it before she headed to the family room. Ryan rolled his eyes, though flopped back on the bed. Women...They were all crazy it seemed. Again, sleepiness had overcame him, and he had fallen asleep, hugging Cat's pillow agianst his chest.
Meanwhile...
Cat had been in another heart-felt conversation with Becca. She had been having these a lot more lately, given that the stress of balancing the planning for both had really started to wear her out. Catrianna was always hapy to help. After all, Rebecca had gone out of her way to help with her's and Ry's wedding.
(I must give credit to Row's Family Traditions...)
“Perhaps pushing the wedding back wasn’t the best idea. I don’t want to sound so childish and hateful, but Cat, this sudden wedding has been out-trumping every attempt I have had at sorting out my own issues. ... God, I hate having to complain to you when you should be enjoying your time with Ryan, getting used to being married.” Cat bit her lower lip as she sensed that her friend was on the verge of tears. “Becca, I don’t want to hear any more of your apologies. I’ve told you before, it doesn’t matter that I just got married. I’m still your friend, so I’m here for you. And I hate that your own wedding experience is seeming to be such a trouble. But you know how life works sometimes...”
It was here, where Hobo (Ryan's dog, whom Cat had also adopted as her own) had jumped on her lap. Cat pet the the dog, smiling as she licked her fingers. She was such a sweetheart. She sat upright when Becca spoke again in the phone, earning a disgruntled bark from Hobo. “Yeah, I know. Um, Cat, are you doing anything today? Or would you feel up to going shopping, just to get away from things for a little while?”
Catrianna looked crestfallen, as she realized the time. She would have given so much to spend some more time with Ryan, or some quality time with Rebecca. But... "Sorry, doll. I promised Ivy that I would meet her for dress alterations again with Viv. Also I was going to see if she needed any help with your designs. You can drop by the boutique if you want.” She grimaced, hearing the disappointment in Rebecca's voice, despite how well her friend had probably tried to mask it. With the bond that the two shared, it was difficult for any ploy to pass either girl's judgment.
“No that’s okay. I might just see what Spence is doing. Or at the very least I’ll just go into town on my own for a while to walk around and clear my mind a little.” Cat felt this pang of guilt in her chest, almost tempted to cancel with Ivy...Then again, she dared not work her up, given her current condition. She had to make it up to her best friend somehow. “Listen, Becca, don’t worry about things. I’m sorry that I can’t take you out today. Perhaps tomorrow?" Her head fell back on the headrest of the couch as she heard Becca's response. “Mom is making me and Patrick go with her to visit family.” Now what?
Cat twirled her hair nervously as she spoke again. “Then indefinite raincheck. I promise. But I should get going before I’m late. Ciao darling.” There, that had been a good answer right? 'Probably not,' she said to herself as she heard Rebecca's desolate "Bye Cat." Hanging up, all she could do was hang her head as she trudged back to the room, where Ryan woke up. "So, doing anything today?" Cat tossed her head peevishly. "Great, you too?" she suddenly snapped, as she slammed the bathroom door behind her. Ryan's jaw dropped at Cat's sudden temper change. "Cat, that was uncalled for," he called from behind the closed door before sitting on the bed again. So it was like that was it? He sighed, reaching for his iPOD, sticking the earphones in his ears as he closed his eyes, trying to keep from losing his patience with her. What the hell had gotten into her?
Cat had realized her temper flare-up just as she had heard that edgy tone to Ryan. Tears stung her eyes, though she stepped into the shower. She just needed a shower, anything to soothe her mind. Though, by the time she had finished her shower, stepping out of the bathroom., the remorse had been too great for her to just ignore it. "Ry?" she asked tentatively. No response. She sighed, removing the earphones. "Ryan?" Her husband had responded by opening his eyes, though they were narrowed in discontent. "Yes?" he responded irritably. Cat bit her lower lip, feeling it tremble as tears sprung into her eyes again. Ryan sighed, hating it when Cat got that look. He sat up, looping his arms around her waist. "Kitten, I'm sorry...I just get so frustrated seeing you like this."
Cat had burst into tears against his shoulder, unable to hold it in any longer. "I'm the one who should be sorry," she whispered, pulling back, sniffling some. "Just, so much is happening all at once. I have to be here for you, there for Ivy, there for Becca..." Ryan silenced her by pressing a finger to her lips. "All you have to do for me is smile, and show me that you're happy. Then I'm content." He kissed her, before looking at the clock. "I couldn't help but overhear, but aren't you supposed to meet up with Ivy and Viv soon?" Cat grimaced, reaching for her clothes. "Oh...right..." She sighed, throwing the garments on before quickly applying some makeup. "How about I bring some Chinese takeout when I return?" Ryan nodded, reaching for his journal. "Sounds like a plan. In the meantime..." he pointed at his journal. "I'll be working on some new material." She kissed him on the lips. "Okay, see you in a few hours." She then departed.
The meeting with Ivy and Viviana seemed to drag on and on. Apparently, her heart hadn't been all in the shopping trip. There had also been that little blowup where Cat had slipped and called Ivy 'Becca.' Apparently, the two had a bit of a row earlier, given Ivy's reaction to the slip of the tongue. Cat spent about twenty minutes apologizing profusely, though still it seemed as if she had killed the good mood all around. To boot, Angie had a bit of a temperature today, so Viviana was already exceedingly worried, not quite there either. Bill had taken it upon himself to take her to the doctor's as she worked with the dresses.
"Ow!' Ivy suddenly called out, rubbing her side where Viv had accidentally stuck her with a pin. "God Viv, that's the third time already! Think you can give it a rest? Last time I checked I wasn't some voodoo doll," she grumbled, still seething over Rebecca's mood earlier, and the fact that Cat had clearly mistaken her for Becca. This meant only one thing. "Cat, if you rather be helping Becca plan for her wedding, be my guest." Cat raised an eyebrow at Ivy. "Ivy Cataluna, what in the bloody hell-"
"Oh save the British lingo for someone who cares," Ivy snapped back, causing Cat to gasp. Those words had been pretty hurtful. Cat grew silent, swallowing her pride as she kept working on the bridesmaid dress alterations, mostly April's, given her recent increase in size...Again. Viviana and Cat had both worked silently for about half an hour, when Ivy tried speaking again. "Look, sorry that I've been..."
"Such a bitch? Oh don't worry, it's not like we don't have things on our minds either," Viviana cut in, her dry personality showing that she had been strained on this day too. Ivy's jaw dropped as she stared at Cat incredulously. "Cat, did you just hear-" Cat looked up from the alteration she had been working on and shrugged indifferently. "She's got a point Ivy... that's all I can say." More silence ensued, before Viviana spoke. "Sorry Ivy, that was uncalled for. I guess I'm not used to being this worked up...Angie had such a high temperature last night-"
"But she seems to be getting better," a male said behind them, being none other than William Beckett. Viviana smiled, taking Angie into her arms, sighing when she heard that giggle. "He said that it was just a little bug that's been going around. Give her a few days..." Once Viv had put Angie in her basinette, she kissed Will, snuggling close to his chest. "Mmm, thank you Billyyyy," she cooed, to which Ivy and Cat couldn't help but to suppress giggles. The relationship between Viviana and William had been so cute.
The rest of the meeting went beautifully, with more humor as Will jokingly tried one one of the bridesmaid dresses, clearly Cat's. "I don't know, think this dress makes me look too leggy?" he asked, to which Ivy giggled. "Sorry, anything makes you look leggy, Bill...Though you lack some in the breast area," Cat cut in, which added to the laughter. Soon, the meeting ended, in fairly good humor. Cat fulfilled her promise to Ryan, and had stopped at a Chinese Restaurant to order takeout.
"Love, I come bearing food!" Catrianna announced once she had gotten home, dropping off the packages of food on the kitchen counter top. When there was no answer, Cat called again. "Ry?" She figured that he was still at work with the new material, and couldn't help but to 'aww' at what she had seen. Curled up in the couch, Ryan had fallen asleep, the journal open on the table before him. Cat decided to take a quick peak at the words, though jumped as a sleepy voice spoke to her. "Enjoying what you're reading?" Ryan had stirred just recently, enough to see Cat reading the early stages of his work. "I'm still working on the material, so it's pretty much a rough draft." Cat smiled, closing the journal, handing it to him, which he put in a drawer.
Ryan turned to his wife. "So, was there anything else?" Catrianna nodded, looping her arms around Ryan, kissing him along the neck. "Yeah, I brought the takeout, like I promised." Ryan grinned at this. "Great, because I'm starving." The two ventured to the kitchen, where Ry explored the contents of the takeout containers. Indeed it had been a feast for the two. Just after they had finished, the two had ventured to the living room couch, curled together as they watched the tape of the wedding day events, not really having the time to do so before now.
Cat giggled during the portion with the photos, where Gabe was standing one second, then on the ground, out cold the next. Ryan's jaw dropped, as he had missed this tidbit, probably in the midst of his racing to the bathroom because of wedding day nerves. "What happened there?" Cat smiled, meeting Ryan's gaze. "Well, I believe that was when she whispered in his ear that it might be twins...turned out to be true, as April found out yesterday. I told you, right?" Ryan shook his head. "No, but that's good news..." Catrianna nodded, before growing exceedingly quiet.
"Ry?" He looked up. "Hmm?" Cat nervously twirled her hair as she dared to tread on the subject. "Do you think we'd make good parents?" Ryan's eyes widened at Catrianna's sudden question, but he answered honestly. "Yeah, I do," he admitted, smiling sheepishly. Cat smiled, as she crawled onto his lap. "Care to try for a child now?" Ryan laughed, pulling her towards him, kissing her. "I thought you'd never ask." Right when the moment between the two had started to get steamy, the phone rang. Catrianna looked up at Ryan questioningly. Ryan sighed, sitting up. "Get that, it might be important," he muttered, select phrases following as Cat reached across for the cordless.
"Hullo?" She covered the receiver with one hand as she mouthed out the word 'Patrick.' Ryan tilted his head, wondering why he was calling now. "Is it business-" he had started to ask, to which Cat waved her hand at him, motioning him to be quiet so that she could hear. Apparently it hadn't been business-oriented after all.
Catrianna's face blanched as she heard Patrick from the other end. “Cat, something’s wrong with Becca. She’s not waking up, and I think she might be dying. What do I do?” Ryan had noticed this look to his wife and had scoot really close to her to try to hear. "What is it Cat?" She waved her hand as she regained her ability to speak.
“What?! Well, did you call an ambulance?” At these words, Ryan got to his feet, starting to gather the clothing that they had removed, tossing Cat's clothing on her lap just before he got to work on throwing on his own clothing at lightning speed. Something told him that some major emergency came up. Once clothing was on, he turned to Cat, looking at her questioningly.
Though Cat hadn't quite been paying attention as she was clinging onto the phone, waiting for Patrick to respond. “Yes, first thing. They said they’re on their way. But Cat, I don’t know what happened. She came back from shopping with you and Ivy last night, and rather than joining me for the rest of the movie, she just went off to bed, asking me to wake her up in the morning. I checked in on her when I went to bed not long after, and she was sleeping. God, what’s wrong with her?”
Getting up to throw on her own clothing, she continued to coach Patrick through this emergency situation. “Patrick, calm down. Um, first question, did she take any of the sleeping pills before she went to bed?” Ryan's eyes widened as he realized who Cat had been talking about. "What happened to Becca?" he croaked, feeling his heart sink to the pits of his stomach. Cat again waved at him to be quiet so that she could hear Patrick.
Soon enough, Patrick responded.“Sleeping pills? I didn’t even know she had any. What does that mean, Cat?" Catrianna bit her lip as she knew she was divulging a secret of Becca's.“Yeah, she’s been taking sleeping pills for about a week now. The stress and everything hasn’t been letting her sleep, so she asked her doctor for something to help her sleep. Why don’t you look and see if she took one last night. She should have only a few missing from the pack.”
She sank down to the couch again, waiting for Patrick to check. Her pulse started to race just as he responded. “Um, Cat, how many should be out of the test pack?” Cat had immediately started to tremble as it had hit her, what had happened. “Only about five or six. She got them when she went with Ivy for her check up. ... Patrick, how many are gone from the pack?”
She cupped a hand over her mouth as tears slipped from her eyes to which Ryan had gotten up to find the keys. Whatever was going on, it wasn't good news at all. “Almost half the packet is gone. Cat, do you think Becca would try to kill herself?” Catrianna dropped the phone before she scrambled down to pick it up. "Bloody hell, Trick! Listen, this isn’t your fault. Perhaps Becca just accidentally lost some of the pills or you know how she sometimes has trouble taking pills. Maybe that’s what caused so many pills to be missing. We don’t know what happened. Just listen to me, Becca and you will be fine. You have your wedding in a few weeks. I’m heading over your way now, okay?”
She reached for her purse, tossing the keys at Ryan, who caught them. “Cat, don’t bother. I think the ambulance is here. Thank you though. For everything. I have to go now. God, I hope she comes out okay.” Ryan had already exited out to the car, having a distinctive feeling that both would be running out to the hospital. Cat had been throwing on her jacket. “Patrick, don’t you give up on this! I’ll meet you at the hospital, so don’t worry about anything. Do you want me to call Pete and Ivy?” She bit her trembling lip as Patrick responded. “No, don’t worry anyone else. Besides, I might be overreacting. The ambulance is outside, Cat. I have to get off the phone.”
Just as the dial tone went dead, Cat threw the phone on the couch as she reached for her purse, rushing out of the house herself. Ryan had already turned on the car, ready to pull out. "Hospital?" he asked, to which Catrianna nodded, trying her best to keep her composure, only to fail miserably....
