Kate sat on Kelly's bed, frowning as Jill busied around the room, packing her bag for her.
"You know that you not helping me isn't going to change the fact that our flight back to L.A. is this afternoon," Jill pointed out.
"I know," Kate sighed, resting her chin in her hand.
"You're worried about missing your buddy, huh?"
She nodded, watching as Jill tossed her shoes on top of her clothes in her suitcase.
"It's just for a few days," Jill reminded. "She'll meet up with us in L.A. after the music festival thing."
"You think I'm being dumb, don't you?"
Jill smiled, choosing her words carefully, "I think it's really sweet how much you two like hanging out. Where is she anyway?"
"Going over her schedule for the next couple of days with Jason. You're excited about getting back to Meghan?"
"Yea, we're in a really good place right now...it's great."
"Are you gonna ask her to be your girlfriend?" Kate asked, curiously.
"I don't know..."
"You just said it was great."
"Yea, and I don't want to ruin that. She's never had a girlfriend before."
"Before you the only times she was with a girl were one time deals, so you're already in uncharted territories--might as well go for it."
"Yea..." she frowned, zipping up the suitcase.
"You're scared."
"I'm not scared."
"You're so scared."
Jill rolled her eyes, "I am not scared."
"Then why don't you ask her to be your girlfriend?"
"Maybe I will."
"When we get back to L.A.?"
"We'll see," she shrugged.
"You know, I could always just talk to her and get her to ask you."
"Kate..." Jill warned.
"What?" she smiled innocently.
"You've meddled enough."
She pouted.
Jill laughed, "You did a great job as matchmaker, and I love you for that, but I need to handle it from here, ok?"
"Ok," she sighed. "You never let me have any fun."
"I let you have tons of fun."
"Like when?"
"Like when I let you sleep up here in Kelly's room without giving you any crap for it, or asking questions," Jill reminded.
"Oh yea..." Kate jumped off the bed. "You know, I should go find Ashley. She said she had a couple CD's she wanted to lend me."
"So that means I'm still not allowed to ask questions?" Jill raised an eyebrow.
"I never said you weren't allowed to ask questions. You make it sound like I have something to hide."
"And you don't?" Jill crossed her arms, an amused expression crossing her face.
"We enjoy each other's company," she shrugged. "We talk...it's as simple as that."
"That's what Kelly says."
"Well, you should belive her--the girl is crazy honest."
"I don't think she's lying; I just think she either doesn't know, or doesn't want to know."
"Know what?"
"And you're just as bad as her," Jill shook her head.
Kate's brows furrowed.
"Go find Ash and grab those CDs so we can finish packing," Jill waved her off.
"You know you're really weird sometimes, right?"
"You've been my best friend for how long?" she smiled. "And that still surprises you?"
Kate laughed softly, "Nah, I was just making sure you knew..."
++++++++++
Kate shuffled one of her feet against the ground.
"So..." Kelly chewed on the corner of her lip as she stood before her in the airport, Jill standing to the side to give them a sense of privacy.
"You're gonna have a lot of fun at this thing," Kate nodded.
"That's what I hear," Kelly agreed. "What do y'all have planned for the next couple days?"
"Chores, mostly," she shrugged. "I know both our cars need an oil change and a good detailing. There's some stuff around the apartment that needs to be done. Jill will probably spend the majority of her time sucking face with Meghan."
Kelly laughed softly, "Maybe you should find some guy to suck face with--that way you won't feel like the third wheel."
"I don't really want anybody right now," Kate admitted.
"No?"
"Well, I'm not really looking for someone."
"Why not?"
"I don't know...I'm happy with my life, right now. Why change anything?"
Kelly smiled.
"Plus me sucking face with some guy would probably make Meghan question things."
"True...you know, you're way better at this relationship thing than me."
"It's your fear of commitment--it's holding you back," Kate teased. "I mean, you telling me to go kiss someone else...that's just you trying to push me away because you're scared."
"Oh really?" she raised an eyebrow.
"Mmhmm, but you know what?" Kate placed her hands on the Texan's hips.
"What?"
"As your girlfriend, I'm so not gonna let you."
"No?"
"Nope. Think you can deal with that?"
"It doesn't sound like I have much of a choice...guess I'll just have to manage."
Kate giggled.
Kelly's smile grew as she pulled her into a tight hug.
"I'm gonna miss you," Kate whispered.
"Aw, cheerup buddy," Kelly pulled back. "It's only a couple days."
Kate blushed softly.
"But, if we're being totally honest, I'm gonna miss you too..." she took Kate's chin gently in her fingers.
"Yea?"
"Yea," she nodded, brushing her lips with her thumb before pulling her handback. "But you'll be ok. Like I said, I'll meet up with y'all in a few days. Just make sure to remind Jill and Meghan that they need to come up for air every now and then, ok?"
"Ok," Kate laughed.
Kelly chewed on her bottom lip again.
Kate pulled her into another hug.
"Have a safe flight, ok?"
"I'll tell the pilot you said so."
"Cute," Kelly smiled as she pulled back, squeezing her hand. "Y'all will let me know that y'all got there ok?"
"Of course," Kate nodded. "Remember, I want tons of pictures from the festival."
"Done."
"Ok...bye..."
"Bye," Kelly gave a soft wave, watching as Kate walked over to Jill before they walked towards there airport terminal. She kicked the ground softly as she turned to walk out of the airport, rubbing her thumb against her index finger, the softness of the blonde's lips lingering there.

"Let's go out tonight," Ashley suggested as she sat on Kelly's bed in her hotel room.
"Where do you want to go?"
"You know..." she replied pointedly.
"Remind me which of us is the gay one again," Kelly laughed softly, taking her clothes out of the suitcase and hanging them in the closet.
"You just look like you could use a pick me up, and that usually helps."
Kelly shrugged.
"You know, you're the only person I know that fully unpacks every little thing from their suitcase when they're in a hotel for just a few nights."
"I like feeling at home," she replied simply. "Why didn't we just stay at Reba's?"
"Because this is way closer to the festival," Ashley reminded. "Why don't you call Reba up, though? We could go out with her."
"Yea, because taking Reba to a gay bar won't make her question anything..."
"I meant out to like karaoke or something, and it's not my fault that you haven't told her yet. I believe I already told you too...several times."
"Yea, yea," Kelly rolled her eyes.
"But come on...karaoke...drinks...you know you wanna..."
"Alright," she grinned. "But don't let me drink a lot. Lord knows I open my big mouth way too much when I'm drunk."
"Deal," Ashley nodded, jumping up excitedly.
++++++++++
"Kate's such a pretty name," Kelly nodded, finishing her drink.
"Kate?" Reba questioned as Ashley sat down after having gone grab another round of drinks.
Ashley raised an eyebrow, "She wants another dog...she's been trying to think of a name."
"Well, I think Kate is a great name," Reba nodded, standing. "I'm gonna go pick out another song to sing."
Kelly giggled as the redhead walked away.
"How much have you had to drink?" Ashley laughed.
Kelly motioned to the empty glasses before her.
"Do you remember our conversation about your big mouth?"
"Do you remember me telling you to not let me get drunk?"
"You must've been taking drinks when I wasn't looking."
"You're the one buying."
"Remind me how that worked out...I'm out with two millionaires, and I'm buying?"
Kelly giggled, taking a drink from the new glass Ashley had put before her, "I'm a millionaire."
"You're drunk," Ashley nodded.
"I'm not that bad," she shook her head.
"The only time you talk about your money is when you're drunk," Ashley pointed out.
Kelly waved her off.
"You said Kate is a pretty name," Ashley smiled.
"Well it is," Kelly nodded. "A very pretty name for a very beautiful girl."
"Kelly, Reba's here, so you're straight, remember?"
"I don't want to be straight...not when Kate's around."
"Kate's not around, Reba is."
"I don't want to kiss Reba," she made a face.
Ashley laughed, "Nobody said anything about kissing Reba."
"I wish Kate were here," she rested her chin in her hand. "Do you think she'd kiss me?"
"Reba?"
"No, silly, Kate."
"Ah...you know, that's a very good question."
"That's not an answer."
"I know."
Kelly stuck her tongue out at her.
"Do you miss her?"
"I think so."
"You think so?"
"You don't think it's too soon to be missing her?"
"Too soon? You've known for nearly a year."
"Yea, but I mean...like, too soon in our relationship."
"In your relationship?" Ashley smirked.
"Shut up," Kelly pushed her. "You know what I mean."
"I think it's normal to miss her," Ashley nodded. "She's obviously very special to you, so it's perfectly fine that you miss her."
"Ok, because I do...a lot."
"Now, it may be too soon for a lot," Ashley admitted.
"But you jus said--"
"KC, she just flew back to L.A. yesterday. We just got to Nashville this morning. It's barely been a day...that's what I mean by too soon. I'm all for you being mad crushed out on someone, but I still gotta keep you in check sometimes."
"Yea...you know, you're right," Kelly nodded. "It's only been a day. I should be having fun. I'm at the country music festival to sing with my hero...no moping allowed, ok?"
"No moping allowed," Ashley agreed, knocking their glasses together.
"Hey Kelly!"
They both turned at the familiar twang.
"Come on," Reba waved her over. "They have 'Does He Love You'."
"Somebody needs to explain to her the concept of karaoke," Ashley shook her head. "The point of it isn't to wipe the floor with everybody else's ass."
Kelly laughed loudly, her hands clapping together.
"Then again, you're pretty far gone, so go far it. This should be fun," Ashley pulled her out of her chair, pushing her towards the stage.
++++++++++
Kelly groaned, rolling over and pulling the blankets over her head as Ashley opened the curtains to her hotel room.
"Rise and shine sweetheart," Ashley grinned.
"Satan," Kelly grumbled from under the covers.
Ashley laughed, sitting on the edge of the bed, "Hungover much?"
A small hand rose out from under the covers, the middle finger raised high.
"Hey, it's not my fault you enjoy getting your drink on."
"Did I do anything stupid?" Kelly asked, peaking her eyes out the top of the blanket.
"Not really...unless you consider changing all the he's in the last chorus of Does He Love You to she's when you did karoke with Reba..."
Kelly groaned, pulling the covers back over her head.
"No worries...Reba was getting her drink on too...she didn't seem to notice."
"Did I forget to tell you not to let me drink a lot?"
"No."
"Then why did you let me get drunk?"
"You're a sneaky little thing, did you know that?"
Kelly laughed softly, wrapping the blankets around her body as she sat up, "So why are you so perky?"
"Because I, my dear friend, was driving last night, so I didn't drink."
"Aw...we could've gotten a driver."
"I figured I should've been sober incase you slipped up big time."
"And me singing about a girl doesn't constitute slipping up big time?"
"Nah..."
"And why are we up so early?"
"You have rehearsals with Reba this morning, Then we're gonna check this festival thing out."
"What time's the performance?"
"Not till later tonight."
"Cool, so we can explore all day?"
"Explore?" Ashley laughed.
Kelly shrugged, "I've heard this thing is really neat."
"You're such a dork," Ashley shook her head, ruffling her hair as she stood. "Get some clothes on, take a shower--in reverse order. I'll be in my room."
Kelly chuckled, watching her best friend walk out of her hotel room before turning to find the bottle of asprin Ashley must've put on her bedside table. She made a mental note to find something really cool for Ashley at the festival to pay her back for taking the night off the night before and watching out for her.
+++++++++
Kelly walked slowly along the crowd of people, looking around for Ashley whom she had lost about ten minutes before. She pushed her sunglasses down from ontop of her head to her nose when she recieved a curious glance from a group of teens. She offered a smile and a wave but kept walking, leaving them to decide whether or not she was who they thought she was. She stopped for a moment at one of the smaller stages, watching the band play.
"Kelly?"
Kelly turned to find a familiar face smiling at her. "Hey," she smiled back, pulling Carrie into a hug.
"Hey," Carrie gave a light laugh. "I thought it was you, but I wasn't sure."
"Yea, apparently I'm hard to recognize in person," she shrugged.
"So what are you doing out here?"
"I'm singing with Reba."
"No, I meant, here..." Carrie motioned around the area they were standing in.
"Am I not supposed to be here?" Kelly asked confusedly.
"Well, it's not like against the law or anything, but most of the artists hang out in the backstage areas. With all the fans and stuff, it's not always smart to be walking around by yourself...don't you have like a body guard or anything?"
"My best friend is here somewhere."
"The one that does your makeup?"
"That's the one," she nodded. "But I lost her a little while ago...so what's your excuse for being out here by yourself?"
"I saw you," she reminded. "I was going grab some food, and I was like, is that Kelly?"
"Where were you going eat...if you don't mind me asking?"
"They have catering. You want to join me? I always feel like such a nerd at these things...gawking at all the singers I grew up listening to...afraid to sit by myself and have people think I'm weird or something."
Kelly laughed, "Yea, sure, I'll join you....don't want people thinking you're some kind of outcast."
Carrie smiled, "So how have you been? The album's coming out soon, right?"
"At the end of this month, yea," she nodded, letting Carrie lead her towards a large white tent that was in the middle of a parking lot, surrounded by all the musical artists' trailers.
"Excited?"
"You have no idea...well, I'm sure you have some idea."
"Still having problems with the label?" she asked curiously as they showed a security officer at the opening of the tent their passes.
"Not really," Kelly shook her head. "Things have been pretty quiet for a while now."
"That's good," Carrie smiled. "I'm actually really looking forward to your album."
"Yea?"
"Yea, well, I love your music," Carrie admitted as they walked along, filling their plates. "And I really hope it does well...maybe a little selfishly so."
"How's that selfish?"
"I don't know...you've already done so much to prove that Idol isn't just some reality show...if you could also prove that we're not just a bunch of manufactured stars that just sing what we're told to when we're told to..."
"No pressure, right?" Kelly joked as they sat down at one of the tables.
"Right," Carrie laughed. "Sorry."
"No, it's fine," Kelly assured. "And that was really sweet what you said about me proving Idol isn't just some reality show, so thank you."
"You're very welcome," she nodded.
"So how's your mom doing?"
"Oh, shoot, she's gonna kill me," Carrie winced. "She's here actually...she's taking a nap in my trailer, but she's gonna kill me if she found out I hung out with you and didn't invite her along."
"Well, I've got to be heading to hair and makeup and all that soon, but if you want I can swing by and say hi...I'd love to see her again, she was so sweet."
"Yea, definitely, she'd love that."
"Cool," Kelly nodded, looking around. "So question..."
"Ok?"
"I need to get my best friend a gift...what kind of stuff do you have over here?"
"Well, you can probably get her something autographed, real easy. Is there anybody she really likes right now?"
"You know, there's this guy singer--he has this really deep voice."
"Oh, yea, you probably mean Josh."
Kelly shrugged, "I'm so bad with knowing people."
Carrie laughed, "Yea, no, you mean Josh Turner. He's a real sweet guy. He'd be happy to help you out. I'll find him later for you."
"Thanks," she nodded. "So as a Texan, I gotta ask..."
Carrie smiled, "I know where this is going...and we're just friends right now."
"You said that at Thanksgiving, and I guess you and I have different definitions of friendship, cause I don't usually kiss my friends like that."
Carrie blushed, "Yea...we were more than friends then, but now we've both decided that we're better as just friends."
"So you're single?"
"Yep. You?"
"Like always," she laughed.
"Not even interested in anyone?"
It was Kelly's turn to blush.
"You are!" Carrie exclaimed excitedly. "So, are y'all just friends...testing the waters...what?"
"Just friends," Kelly nodded.
"But you like 'em?"
"Yea," she smiled.
"Are they here?"
"No, she's in L.A.," Kelly frowned slightly.
"You miss her?"
"I do," she replied. She had to admit, when her mother had blurted out something about how cute the cheereleaders were and that Kelly should date one of them during the Dallas Cowboys Thanksgiving Day game in front of Carrie, she wasn't exactly thrilled. In fact, she was scared to death. It had been the first time that the two singers had gotten a chance to really hang out, so she had no clue how she was going to react or whether or not she could trust her. But as it turned out, the country singer didn't have a problem with it at all. Her best guy friend was gay, and she swore she'd keep the Texan's secret for which Kelly had been extremely grateful. "It's sad, we've only been apart for like two days."
"That's so cute," Carrie grinned. "I love that stage when you first start to really like someone. Have you called her yet?"
"I don't know..." Kelly shook her head.
"Why not?"
"Shouldn't she call me?"
"Maybe she's waiting for you to call her."
"Maybe..."
"You seem bummed."
"It's kinda a long story."
"I have time," Carrie offered. "And I can totally be an impartial third party if you need."
"She's straight."
"Well that's not really a long story," she laughed.
"And my backupsinger."
"Ah...so really, what you meant was that it's a complicated story?"
"Yea..."
"So you're her boss, and she's straight...wow...you don't like to make things easy, do you?"
Kelly laughed softly, "Apparently not."
"Well, is she actually straight, or does she just think that?"
"Is there a difference?"
"Oh totally...my friend Matt? Yea, he totally thought he was straight up until our Sophomore year in college when I had to finally sit him down and point out that straight boys don't drool over Brad Pitt's abs in the Thelma and Louise movie."
"It's sad that you know more about being gay than I do," Kelly nodded.
Carrie smiled softly, "I've just been around it longer than you have. But I mean, think about it, you probably thought you were straight until you realized otherwise, right?"
"Yea."
"So maybe she just thinks she is, and maybe you can be the one to prove to her that she isn't."
Kelly smiled, "I think you need to hang out with me more."
"I told you to call me up whenever you're in Nashville. I can grab Matt and we can go out...do you go out?"
"Um...I did a little when I was in L.A. a lot. It's easier when you have gay friends...then you have an excuse to be there, right? But over here it's kinda hard."
"Well, Matt will work perfectly as your gay allibi."
"You'd loan him to me?"
"For a fee," she nodded.
"And what's that?"
"You gotta bring the girl with you...she is ok with the gay thing, right? I mean, does she know?"
"Oh yea, she knows, trust me I've been retardedly honest with her. But yea, her best friend is gay, so..."
"Well, fun, bring her too, then. It can be like a group night out. That way there's no like pressure on y'all or anything."
"You know, that does sound like a lot of fun," Kelly agreed. "I've got to go to L.A. after this, but I'll be back in Nashville in like a week. I'll call you up."
"Awesome," Carrie smiled, looking down at her watch. "We should probably get going if you want to stop by to say hi to my mom before you go get ready. You know she'll want to talk you're ear off."
"Oh, yea, sure, thanks for watching the time," Kelly nodded, taking one more sip of her water before standing and following Carrie back out of the catering tent.
+++++++++
"Watcha got?" Ashley asked curiously as she walked into the makeup trailer to find Kelly flipping her cell phone over and over in her hand.
Kelly cocked her head at her best friend.
"What?"
"I find it funny how southern you sound around me and our friends back home, but when we're out in L.A., you drop the drawl faster than I can blink."
Ashley laughed, nodding as she joined her on the small couch.
"Why do you like a place where you feel that you can't be yourself?"
"Maybe I don't wanna be myself," Ashley shrugged. "Maybe I wanna be someone else."
"But I like you like you are."
Ashley smiled, "Which is why I promise to always be normal around you. And I know you don't understand the whole L.A. scene, but I love it."
"I know," Kelly nodded.
"What's up?"
"How would you like to have my apartment in L.A. to yourself?"
"What do you mean?"
"I'm thinking of looking for a place out here."
"Really?"
"Yea, I really like it here. It's much more my speed, I think. And, I don't know, I feel like over here it's more about the music than the business whereas in L.A. it's just the opposite, you know?"
"So you want to get a place to rent here?"
"I'm thinking of buying," she admitted.
"So you really like it here," Ashley nodded.
"Yea...I mean, I've switched apartments and houses in and around L.A., trying to find somewhere I feel comfortable for how many years now? It's just not the place for me. But there's so many nice little suburbs and stuff around Nashville...I think it would be nice to have a place to feel really at home at when I'm away at work. What do you think?"
"I think Nashville is definitely more your speed."
"What about the apartment? Or would you rather me buy something so we don't have to deal with rent?"
"Kelly, I'm not gonna let you buy me a place to live."
"Well, I'll still have to go to L.A. for business and stuff," Kelly pointed out. "So I'll need a place to stay, so it's not like I'm just giving you a place to live--it's for me too."
"Then we can go half."
"How about I get it for you for your birthday?"
"Half," Ashley laughed.
"I'll go seventy-five, you go twenty-five."
"Kelly..."
"That's my final offer," Kelly shook her head. "It's either that, or I pay for the whole thing."
Ashley sighed.
"That settles it," Kelly nodded.
"So what were you in deep thought about when I walked in?"
"I was trying to decide whether or not to call Kate."
"Ah...and what was the decision?"
"Do you think if she wanted to talk, she would've called me?" Kelly asked.
"Or she could just be waiting for you to call because she's just as nervous as you are."
"That's what Carrie said," Kelly frowned.
"You saw Carrie today?"
"Yea."
"Well, who knew blondie had a brain?"
"Be nice."
Ashley chuckled, "If you want to talk to her, then you should call her. Simple as that."
"It's not that simple. I've never seen you be the first one to pick up the phone."
"That's because the guy is supposed to be the first."
"So I'm the guy in this relationship?"
"You're the pursuer," Ashley nodded.
"I'm nervous..."
"Of?"
"What if she's out partying with friends or something?"
"Do you not want her to be having fun?"
"I don't want to call and her not have time to talk. I'd probably never get the nerve to call her back."
"The way you go from crazy confident to doubting everything with that girl is quite amusing."
"You don't think it's too much?"
"What is?"
"Calling her. You don't think that's too forward?"
"Too forward?" Ashley laughed. "Kelly, I know this may be a new concept for you since you have a thing against talking on the phone, but friends do call each other. It doesn't have to be anything serious."
Kelly nodded, looking down at the cellphone in her hands.
"Come on," Ashley stood, pulling her up as well. "I've got to get started on your makeup."
"What would you do if you were in my situation?"
"I would run," Ashley nodded. "I would run far, far away."
"I meant with the calling her situation, but thanks for the vote of confidence," Kelly laughed.
"Running...it's what you do," Ashley shrugged as Kelly sat down in the makup chair.
"If you were in this situation, not if you were me. And I'm not a runner...I just have a short attention span, I think."
"Which is why it amazes me that you've held onto this for this long."
"So what would you do?"
"Are we talking about calling her still? Cause I'd call her," Ashley nodded.
"And if we're talking about the whole thing?"
"I'd run," she replied surely.
Kelly raised an eyebrow.
"It's a screwy situation," Ashley reminded. "There's no way I'd have the patience or the strength to deal with it."
"Patience?"
"If she's not as straight as she says she is..."
"And strength?"
"If she is as straight as she says she is," Ashley frowned.
Kelly nodded, "Do you think I'm dumb for sticking with this?"
"I think I love seeing you happy and excited about something like you are with her."
"That's not an answer."
"I said I wouldn't hold you back."
"So you do think I'm dumb."
"Yea, but I'm the type of person that would change the way I talk just to fit in, so why would you listen to me?"
"Because you're my best friend and you know me better than anybody else."
"Which is why I didn't answer the question because I know you'd take it to heart when you shouldn't."
Kelly frowned.
"KC, look, Kate's important to you, right?"
"Yea," she replied softly.
"I mean, setting all romantic feelings aside...her friendship, that's important to you?"
"Yes," she nodded.
"Ok, then that's all that matters. You have to do what makes you happy."
"But you just said it was dumb," Kelly pointed out.
"We've been through this before. You have to do what makes you happy...fuck what everybody else thinks."
"Even you?"
"Even me," Ashley smiled. "And just because I think you're being a little less than smart with this, doesn't mean I disagree with it. It just means I worry about you which, as your best friend, is totally my right. Just like as a human being, it's totally your right to be happy. Ok?"
"Ok," she offered a small smile.
"Good," Ashley ruffled her hair.
"So I should call her?"
"You should call her," Ashley agreed. "Just not right now because your little peptalk put us behind schedule."
Kelly laughed softly, "Sorry."
"Nah, I work well under pressure," Ashley assured. "So if anything, you're gonna look better because of it...lucky you and your insecurities."
"Thanks Ash," she smiled.
"Mmhmm," Ashley picked up a makeup brush. "Now, no more talking. I need to focus."

Kelly chewed nervously on her bottom lip as she sat on her bed in her hotel room, listening to the phone on the other end of the line ring.
"Hello?"
"Hey," she smiled.
"Hey," Kate replied enthusiastically. "How was the show?"
"I think it went well."
"You had fun?"
"Yea, we had a blast," she nodded. "So, um, what's up with you?"
"Nothing much, I was just about to pop in a movie."
"Where's Jill?"
"At Meghan's."
"So they left you by yourself?"
"Rude, right?" Kate giggled softly.
"I know. It should be like against the law or something for them to leave a pretty girl by herself while they go out and have fun."
"You're sweet," Kate smiled.
"Nah, I'm just too honest, sometimes," she admitted, laying back on the bed.
"Well, either way, I love it."
"Well, that's good, then."
"Yea...so speaking of leaving pretty girls by themselves, what are you doing calling me? It's like nearly eleven over there...you should be out celebrating after your performance."
"We went out last night," Kelly explained. "So I decided to take a break tonight. Catch up on some sleep."
"A little too much fun?"
"A little too much liquor."
Kate laughed, "Got into trouble?"
"Nah, that's what I have Ashley for--to keep me in check," Kelly shook her hand, causing her bracelet to slide off her arm onto her stomach. "So I was thinking..."
"Uh-oh."
"Oh hush," Kelly laughed, unable to get the smile off her face at the sound of Kate's giggle. "I was thinking about heading back to Texas tomorrow instead of L.A."
"Oh yea?"
"Yea, I mean, I don't actually have to be back to L.A. until the eleventh for a couple interviews. So that gives me a couple days off."
"Sounds fun," Kate nodded.
"And I was wondering if maybe y'all wanted to come back down and meet up with us? I mean, I know y'all just got back there and everything, but it was fun having y'all there last time."
"I don't know if I'll be able to get Jill away from Meghan again."
"You can invite Meghan."
"She won't be able to take off of any more work," Kate replied, regretfully.
"Well, I mean, the invitation...it wasn't just for the two of you collectively...I mean, if you don't have a problem flying down by yourself or anything, you're more than welcome to come...just you..."
"Yea?"
"Definitely...I mean, um, yea...sure...if you want..." Kelly let out a nervous laugh.
Kate smiled, "Well, then, yea, I'd love to come."
"Yea?" Kelly's voice rose.
"Yea," Kate laughed softly.
"Ok, cool..." Kelly nodded, grinning. "And don't worry about the flight or anything, I'll set it up and take care of it."
"You don't have to--"
"Nope," Kelly cut her off. "You're my guest. I get to pay. No arguing."
"Fine...but I get to pay for the ice cream this time."
"Deal," Kelly nodded, hearing the sound of the buzzer through the phone.
"Ooo...pizza's here," Kate announced.
"Ok, well, I'm gonna let you go then..."
"No, you don't have to."
"No, no, I'm interrupting your movie time...I had just wanted to call and say hey, and I did that, so..."
Kate smiled, "Alright, well, I'm glad you called."
"Yea, me too," Kelly admitted out loud. She mentally slapped herself. "I'll, uh...I'll see you tomorrow?"
"Can't wait," Kate nodded. "Get some sleep, ok?"
"Will do," Kelly assured. "Bye."
"Bye."
Kelly hung up the phone, letting out a sigh of relief, finding herself smiling at the thought of Kate being happy she called.
