Winds of Destiny(Pt24)
Let Me Be The One – Def Leppard
Ziggy Star Dust – David Bowie
Music floated across the water, mixing with the waves that gently splashed against the wooden hull. A brisk head wind pushed Obsession at 7 knots through the inky black water 198 miles west off the coast of Africa. Everyone was enjoying a relaxing evening with cool breeze, music and drinks.
Chelsea clapped her hands when Joe and Sav finished the song. “That was great, I like that one. Who wrote it?”
“We did, back in the late 1980’s.” Sav informed her.
“1987 or 88 I think.” Joe frowned.
“No it wasn’t.” Sav started looking at him. “We were on tour for Hysteria, so we couldn’t have written it then. I don’t remember exactly when we wrote it, but it was before the tour, that I know.”
“Do you know how long ago that was Sav? Our prefect memory wasn’t intact then.”
“Does it matter when it was written?” Crystal asked. “It’s still a great song, one of my favorites.”
“No sweetheart, it doesn’t.” Joe grinned and leaned over to kiss Sav.
“Well, that is enough for me. I’m going to sit with Nick for awhile.”
“Why?” Joe leaned over to see Nick at the helm. “He looks fine back there all by himself.”
“I am Joseph, just enjoying the music.” Nick called back.
“See, he’s fine.”
“Just one more Sav, pleeeease.” Crystal pleaded.
“OK, one more.” Sav sat back down, dragging the acoustic guitar back over his leg. “Which one?”
“Um..”
Looking right at Sav, Joe smiled and strummed his guitar. “oooo..yeah..”
Sav rolled his eyes. “Oh please, not that one.”
“Ziggy played guitar……jammin’ good with Weird and Gilly…The spiders from mars…”
“I’m not playing that one Joe.” Sav huffed.
“…he played it left hand…but made it too far…”
Folding his arms over the top of his guitar Sav shook his head.
“…became a special man, then we were Ziggy’s band…”
“I thought we were Def Leppard.” Sav joked.
“..Ziggy really sang, screwed up eyes and screwed down hairdo…” Joe kept smiling and winked at him.
“Keep singing by yourself.”
“…like some cat from Japan, he could lick ‘em by smiling….”
“You can lick me anywhere, anytime...” Sav tossed is hair back. “..but I’m still not playing that one.”
Joe plucked a wrong note, but kept on playing. “..came on so loaded man, well hung and snow white tan….”
“Oh, you’re well hung and snow white tan alright.” Sav giggled. “And you missed a line.”
Joe stopped playing to stare at him. “You distracted me, that’s why I missed it. Which one?”
From the stern of the yacht, Nick calmly added the line. “He could leave ‘em to hang.”
“That’s the one.” Sav snapped his fingers.
Joe screwed up his face to pout. “Why don’t you want to play that one?”
“We’ve been playing it for a 100 years, I’m sick of it, that’s why.”
“You never said anything.”
“I didn’t want to hurt your feelings.” Sav grinned.
Crystal leaned over and bumped Sav’s shoulder with hers, getting his attention. “I didn’t want to hear that one either.”
“See, you are outvoted.” Sav stated. “Now, pick another one.”
“Now.” Joe replied.
“They do want us to play another one.”
“Now.” Joe repeated.
“Oh good grief Joe…yes!” Sav exclaimed. He whipped his head around to stare at Nick, who was laughing and Crystal was giggling.
Chelsea didn’t know what to make of their behavior and smiled.
Sav looked back to Joe, eyes narrowed. “ha ha, very funny. Why do you do that to me?”
“Because I love you.” Joe chuckled.
“No, you love to watch my reactions when you do silly stuff like that.”
“That too…do you want to play Now?”
Sav stuck his tongue out at him and started playing. “Crystal knows the words, she and Nick can do backing vocals, I’m doing lead.”
“What am I doing then?”
“Sit there and look pretty...strum your little guitar.”
“Oh you are mean.” Joe complained.
Just before the song ended, Chelsea leaned closer to Crystal to whisper in her ear. “Do they always argue like this?”
“From what I’ve seen or heard, they’re really not arguing, most of the time, its funny.” Crystal whispered back, then turned her attention back to Sav and Joe.
Hearing what they were talking about, Sav smiled at them. Placing his fingers over the fret, he began to pluck the strings, sending a soft melody across the deck.
Joe watched him, trying to place the song he was playing.
Sav’s voice soon followed,
Something in the way you move
Let’s me get too close to you
I tremble when I look at your face
And I want all the world to see
Tonight the world belongs to me
Touch me with your animal grace
Put your hand on my heart
And feel the need in me
Let me be the one
Lead me into temptation
And show me the right side of wrong
Let me be the one
Take me in from the cold
Gimme something to hold
Let me be the one
Let me be the one
Burnin' in the afterglow
We catch the wind and let it go
Washed away like words in the sand
A passion that’s so physical
Electric and untouchable
Don’t want to let it slip through my hands
Put your hand on my heart
And feel the need in me
Let me be the one
Lead me into temptation
And show me the right side of wrong
Let me be the one
Take me in from the cold
Gimme something to hold
Don’t let this dream pass by
Just spread your wings and fly
Reach out and touch
Let your heart just breathe me in
I’ll be your oxygen
Let me be the one…
His voice trailed off as he continued to play out the music.
“I really like that one Rick.” Chelsea grinned thinking of the lyrics and how they fit with some of the relationships on board. “Did you write that one?”
“Yes, very long time ago.”
“Very nice.” Joe scooted closer to Sav to kiss him. “I’ve never heard that one.”
“I wrote it for you, for us...our relationship. I was in Underground recovering when it just spilled out one night. I played it that night of the gathering, you left with Nick and didn’t hear it.”
Joe cringed from the look Sav gave him. “I remember you passed out that night.”
“Yes.” Sav replied, frowning at the memory.
“You should record it.”
“Maybe, when we get home.” Sav uncurled his legs to stand up. “Time for more drinks, I say.”
“I’ll put these away.” Joe said taking the guitar from him and went below.
“That was wonderful.” Chelsea smiled. “I think I will go see what is keeping Travis. It’s been a very long day, he may have already gone to bed and forgot to tell me, then I will come back up.”
Sav took Crystal’s hand and helped her up from the deck. “I’m a little tired myself, it was a long, busy day.”
“Perhaps you should get some rest.” Sav told her.
“I think I will.” Crystal smiled, still holding Sav’s hand, she jumped on the edge of the raised decking, grabbed the rigging to steady herself, she quickly pulled him closer to kiss him full on the lips.
“Goodnight.” Crystal’s smile widen, she jumped down, waved to Nick and disappeared below.
Sav stood there in a bit of shock at what Crystal had done. Sure she had kissed him before, but on the cheek. ‘Maybe she meant to kiss my cheek and missed, the boat was rocking more, that’s all.’ Sav though, slowly making his way over to Nick. Taking the drink that he had stuffed in the holder he drained the glass and put it back, then nudged Nick’s legs apart to squirm between them to get comfortable. He glanced out over the vast ocean toward the slow rising moon.
“What was that about?”
“What?”
“Crystal.”
“Oh….um, nothing, the boat tilted wrong I guess. I’m sure it was an accident the way she kissed me.”
“I’m sure.” Nick chuckled softly.
“Look at that, isn’t it beautiful?” Sav asked, changing the subject.
“You are.” Nick replied lowering his head to nibble on his neck.
“Not me…” Sav elbowed in the side. “…the moon coming up over the water.”
“I’ve seen countless rising moons, they all look the same.” Nick snapped the button and gently slid his hand down in Sav’s shorts.
“Hey cut that out, you have to drive the boat.” Sav yanked his hands out.
“I can do both.” Nick whispered in his ear, tongue snaking out to twirl along the outer edge.
“Some one will see us.”
“Who? Chelsea is the only one awake. Joe would join in.”
“And she will be back up here in a few minutes.” Pulling Nick’s hand from his shorts again, Sav stood up, clearing his throat to calm his racing pulse.
Joe bounced up the stairs to see Sav standing there with his back to him. A few silent steps took him closer and he grabbed his butt.
“Hey!” Sav yelled and spun around.
Joe smiled, arching his brows when he noticed the unbuttoned shorts. “Are you going to do a strip tease for us?”
“No!” Sav shot back and quickly did up the button. He reached for the bottle of blood wine and glass in Joe’s hand, filling his and then refilled Nick’s.
“Beautiful moon tonight.” Joe commented.
“I said the same thing to Nick.”
“No, you asked me if it was beautiful and I said you are.”
“He is.” Joe snagged Sav around the waist to drag him closer.
“Not me, the moon.”
“I would rather look at you.” Joe bent his head to kiss him.
“Me too.” Nick put in.
“Will you two please stop talking like that? It’s embarrassing.”
“I love to watch you blush, you know that.” Joe said running his hands down his back to land on his butt.
“Me too.”
“I thought you loved my butt?”
“That too.” Joe dived for his neck.
“Me too.” Nick again agreed with Joe.
Sav twisted to look at him. “You are agreeing with Joe to much lately, something is very wrong with you Nick.”
“Nothing wrong at all, just enjoying the company I’m with.” Nick smiled.
“Me too.” Joe laughed, to which Sav rolled his eyes. “Dance with me.”
Pushing him away, Sav stepped by him. “I don’t want to dance and you should lay off the blood wine.”
“Then I get to have you.”
“Uh…no.” Sav backed up a few steps when Joe came closer. “Are you ready to talk about your dreams?”
“I would rather chase you around the boat.” Joe grinned wickedly, then lunged for him.
Sav darted to the railing and ran for the mast. They circled the massive steel cylinder several times before Sav tricked him and took off toward the bow.
Chelsea was just coming back up when Sav yelled at Joe to stop. She watched them chase each other when Sav raced around the main mast again, his voice floated back to them ‘you missed’, seconds later, Chelsea saw him dive over the railing, Joe quickly followed him.
Gasping, Chelsea hurried to the side, peering into the water for them.
“Nick…” she called to him.
“They are fine, excellent swimmers. They can fly faster then we are going.” Nick tried to reassure her with a smile.
Chelsea didn’t look convinced as she made her way back to him. Glancing around for the two men that disappeared over the side.
“Did you find out what Travis was up to?”
“Yes, he was checking the weather updates, then went to bed. Clear weather pattern for smooth sailing until we reach Cape Verde tomorrow night.”
“Wonderful.” Nick smiled. “We will be fine, you head on down and get some much needed rest.”
“Goodnight Chelsea.” Sav whispered in her ear.
She gasped again and spun around. Punching him in the arm. “Don’t do that.”
Sav looked past her to see Joe land softly on the deck. “We will be fine.” In a blur he was gone. Joe smiled at her, brushing the wet hair from his face, then looked toward the bow to see Sav causally leaning against the mast. “Goodnight.”
“I know you will all be fine, just be careful up here running around.”
Once she was gone, Nick glanced over the controls, adjusting some and tightening the rigging for the mainsail, he plopped back in his seat, guided the yacht with his bare feet.
Mean while Joe and Sav continued to run around the deck, several times venturing back to the stern until Sav grew wary of Joe’s constant pestering.
“Will you stop Joe?” He yelled, knocking Joe’s hand away from his ass for the tenth time.
“Did you forget how much I love your ass?”
“No, but give it a rest ‘cause it starting to get annoying.” Sav told him moving quickly along the deck to grab the railing to the helm.
Joe stopped in front of him, a huge smile on his face. “Ok, I’ll stop.”
“Thank you.” Sav huffed, then turned to ask Nick something. Joe immediately grabbed his ass.
Sav jumped and spun back around. “Goddamnit Joe…stop!” and shoved hard.
Joe went back a few steps, losing his balance as the yacht tilted, the safety railing wasn’t enough to keep him from tumbled over the side.
Sav swung on the mainsail rigging to look after him. “Asshole overboard!”
“I am not turning around to go find him.” Nick stated, standing up.
“Then don’t.” Sav replied, peering intently down in the water trying to find him. “He will be fine.”
“Don’t worry, he will be along…very soon.” Nick held back the chuckle when he saw Joe pulling himself up on the port side of yacht. Watching him creep across the deck toward Sav, who had his back turned. “Look out behind you Richard.”
Joe shot him a warning glare, Nick smiled as Sav spun around.
“You sneaky bastard.” Sav huffed.
“Clever move Joe.” Nick called out.
Sav ignored him to warily eye Joe waiting to see what his next move would be. “The boat is not the place to play around Joe, it’s to dangerous, one of us could get hurt.” Sav tried to reason with him as he carefully stepped side ways, inching toward Nick.
“I’m not playing…I’m hunting.”
Sav glanced at the full moon. “It’s not a good place for that either.” He took a big step and wrapped his arms tightly around Nick’s waist.
“He isn’t going to protect you.”
“Yes he will.” Sav shot back.
“Perhaps you should put it to rest for now and wait until we get to land again for such play.”
“ah booo, you’re no fun.” Joe said, racking the wet hair from his face. “You pushed me in Sav, you get to help me dry off and change.”
“That is all I will help you do, then we come back up here.” Sav slowly stepped from behind Nick and headed for the stairs.
Joe snagged him around the waist, pulling him hard against his chest. “I can think of a lot of other things to do.”
Giving in to defeat and his own desire, Sav went limp in his arms. “We might be back before sunrise Nick.” Sav called out as Joe carried him below deck.
Both of them quickly showered washing salty water off. Sav was pulling clean clothes from the draw when Joe circled his arms around his wait. Brushing Sav’s hair away, his tongue landed on the soft skin of his shoulder.
Dropping his head back, Sav sighed. “We are spending the night on deck, not down here again.”
“Just need a little of this to put out the fire.” Joe whispered against his neck, then gently sank his fangs in to draw out the blood.
Tilting his head more, Sav tangled his fingers in Joe’s hair, a soft moan escaped his lips when Joe withdrew, gently running his tongue over the holes until they closed.
Turning in his arm, Sav kissed him, he could taste his own blood as his tongue danced around with Joe’s.
Gently swaying, Joe leaned his for head against Sav’s. “Are you sure you want to spend the night on deck?”
“Yes.” Stepping away, Sav slid his shirt on. “We should be at the island tomorrow night. We can go off alone to do whatever...maybe hunt.”
Joe smiled. “Each other or…”
“Undecided.”
“Our vampire nature will tell us.” Joe chuckled.
“Yes.” Sav replied and snapped the button on his shorts. Pulling a blanket from the bed, he draped it over his arm. “Come on.”
“What are you going to do with that?”
“Spread it on the deck to lay one.”
“Might be sliding all over the place.”
Sav rolled his eyes and left the cabin. “The boat is not rolling that much.”
