“When You’re Gone”- Avril Lavigne
I always needed time on my own
I never thought I’d need you there when I cry
And the days feel like years
When I’m alone
And the bed where you lie
Is made up on your side
When you walk away
I count the steps that you take
Do you see how much I need you right now
When you’re gone
The pieces of my heart are missing you
When you’re gone
The face I came to know is missing too
When you’re gone
The words I need to hear
To always get me through the day
And make it OK
I miss you
I’ve never felt this way before
Everything that I do
Reminds me of you
And the clothes you left
They lie on the floor
And they smell just like you
I love the things that you do
When you walk away
I count the steps that you take
Do you see how much I need you right now
When you’re gone
The pieces of my heart are missing you
When you’re gone
The face I came to know is missing too
When you’re gone
The words I need to hear
To always get me through the day
And make it OK
I miss you
We were made for each other
Out here forever
I know we were
Yeah
All I ever wanted was for you to know
Everything I do I give my heart and soul
I can hardly breathe
I need to feel you here with me
Yeah
When you’re gone
The pieces of my heart are missing you
When you’re gone
The face I came to know is missing too
When you’re gone
The words I need to hear
To always get me through the day
And make it OK
I miss you
..Mikey’s POV..
It felt good to be home, if only for just the weekend. I was exhausted as were the other guys and Alicia had been looking a little off lately. I’m sure she just needs some rest. The doorbell rang and I walked across the house to go answer it. I gasped when I opened it. Alicia looked terrible. She was so pale and her clothes were hanging off her body. She gave me a weak smile and gave me a kiss hello.
“Ali are you OK?” I asked as I let her into the house.
“I’m fine. Just tired and my back hurts,” she said softly. We went into my bedroom and I watched her wince as we sat down.
“You don’t look fine. You’ve lost so much weight in a short amount of time. Maybe you should stay home while I finish out the tour. You need some rest,” I said and she shook her head.
“Really Mikey. Everything’s good,” she said, though she didn’t have me convinced. She lay down and I got in next to her, wrapping my arm around her waist. She leaned in and kissed me again, and I kissed back hungrily. “I know just what will make me feel better,” she whispered and started to suck on my neck. I moaned as her tongue darted out to lick the skin and I slid my hand into her sweatpants, rubbing her softly through her underwear.
“You’re so wet,” I whispered before sliding my hand inside and rubbing her folds. She gasped and moaned, grasping my shirt tightly.
“Fuck! Mikey I can’t wait anymore. I need you in me!” she said huskily. I wasted no time pulling her pants and underwear off before pulling my jeans and boxers down to my ankles. She lay on her back and I pushed at her opening. I captured her lips with mine as I slammed into her absorbing her cry and feeling her muscles tighten around me. I pulled out slowly and pushed back in as Alicia broke the kiss. Her nails were digging into my back and tears were streaming down her face.
“Alicia??? Shit!” I exclaimed and pulled out as fast as I could. She curled up in the fetal position and started sobbing. I pulled her into my arms and kissed her forehead.
“Baby did I hurt you? Was I too rough?” I asked. I was terrified.
“Mikey, it hurts,” she whimpered.
“Honey I’m so sorry! I didn’t mean to!” I pleaded, feeling tears come to my own eyes. She shook her head.
“It’s not that,” she said weakly. I breathed a sigh of relief.
“What is it baby?” She was shivering in my arms and her body was covered in sweat. I pressed my lips to her forehead.
“Ali you’re burning up,” I said worriedly. She pushed me away and fell to the floor, grabbing my garbage can and throwing up. I got down on my knees next to her and held her hair back. “What’s wrong? You’re scaring me,” I said and bit my lip. She wiped her mouth and looked over at me, her eyes all glassy. I grabbed her sweatpants and helped her get them on before pulling mine up carrying her into the bathroom where she started to throw up again. I grabbed a washcloth and wet it with cold water before pressing it to the back of her neck. When she was done throwing up, she laid down on the floor, curled up and crying in pain.
“Mikey… please,” she begged.
“What is it? You need to tell me what’s wrong!” I said frantically. Her breathing was labored and her eyes rolled into the back of her head as she passed out. Now I was even more terrified since I knew something was seriously wrong with her since you can’t pass out while lying down. I ran out of the bathroom and into the living room where my parents were watching TV.
“Mikey? What’s wrong?” my mom asked worriedly.
“Call an ambulance!” I cried.
“What? Why?” my dad asked.
“Alicia… she’s really sick. She just passed out. Call one now!” I shouted and ran back into the bathroom. My mom was right behind me and my father picked up the phone. I dropped to my knees next to her, pressing my ear to her chest. Thankfully she was still breathing, but unevenly.
“What happened?” my mom asked, her face going pale.
“I don’t know! She hasn’t been looking good the past week, complaining that her back was hurting, and then she just started vomiting and burning up,” I said. My dad ran into the room.
“They’re on their way. What happened?” he asked.
“She’s sick. We don’t know what’s wrong,” my mom said. Five minutes later, there was a loud banging on the front door. My dad went and answered it, and two EMT’s walked into the bathroom with medical bags. I moved out of the way and sat on the toilet, my head in my hands and tears streaming down my face.
“Sir I need you to tell us what happened,” one of them said as she checked Ali’s blood pressure and they tried to wake her up.
“I don’t know. She hasn’t been feeling well lately, her backs been bothering her, she has no appetite, but it got worse tonight. So much worse,” I said softly.
“She’s not waking,” the other EMT said.
“We’re going to take her to the hospital and run some tests,” the other told me calmly. They pulled out a yellow board and placed Alicia on it before strapping her to it. I followed them out, my parents behind me.
“Go with her, we’ll follow behind,” my dad said and I nodded, climbing into the back of the ambulance and taking hold of Alicia’s hand.
“Please Ali. Wake up,” I whispered as we started to drive off. One of the EMT’s grabbed her right arm and stuck an IV into it and Alicia stirred, her eyes opening, but looking unfocused.
“Sweetheart can you tell us your name?” the female EMT asked.
“Where am I?” she asked weakly.
“On your way to the hospital. Now can you tell us your name?” she asked.
“Alicia Simmons,” she replied softly. She looked over at me and tears streamed down her face. “Mikey,” she said and started to cry.
“It’s all right baby. You’re gonna be OK,” I assured her and squeezed her hand lightly.
“Alicia do you know what happened?” the other EMT asked.
“I got sick,” she answered.
“We’re going to do some tests when we get to the hospital all right?” Alicia nodded and continued to cry.
“Are you pregnant Miss Simmons?” the female EMT asked.
“No,” Alicia answered with a sob.
“Are you on any drugs or prescription medication?”
“Birth Control.” We finally arrived at the hospital and they wheeled her in through the emergency room.
“Please wait here, when we’re done with the testing we’ll come and get you,” a nurse told me. I sat down in one of the hard plastic chairs and waited for my parents to get here.
“Mikey!” my mom exclaimed as her and my dad ran over to me.
“They’re doing tests. They’re not sure what’s wrong,” I said. I stood up and walked past them, taking my cell phone out of my pocket and dialing my brother’s number as I walked out the doors.
“What’s up bro?” he answered. Liv and he were at Ray’s playing all the new Nintendo games we got.
“I’m at the hospital,” I said softly.
“What? Why?” he asked worriedly.
“Alicia collapsed. We had to call an ambulance,” I said, letting the tears fall yet again.
“Shit. Why did she collapse?” he asked worriedly.
“I don’t know Gee. They’re doing a bunch of tests on her now. I’m so scared,” I confided.
“It’s all right Mikey. We’ll be there soon,” he said and hung up before I could protest. I sighed and thought about calling Frank, but he was at Jilly’s prom. I didn’t want to ruin their night. Twenty minutes later, Gerard, Ray, and Olivia were walking towards me in the parking lot.
“Anything yet?” Gerard asked as soon as he was close. I shook my head.
“Mom and Dad are inside,” I told him and he nodded, taking Olivia by the hand and bringing her inside.
“She really hasn’t been looking good lately. What happened exactly?” Ray asked.
“She came over and the next thing I know, she’s crying because she was in so much pain and she was sweating, burning up with a fever, then throwing up. She was lying on the bathroom floor and she just passed out,” I explained. Gerard had joined us yet again after he brought Olivia to his parents. He took out his pack of cigarettes and handed each of us one and we smoked, trying to calm ourselves down.
“She’ll be fine Mikey. Alicia’s a tough cookie,” Gerard said. I sighed.
“I know she is, that’s why I’m so scared. It was so bad Gee. I’ve never seen her so weak and afraid before. It’s so unlike her. She tried to be strong in the beginning, but she couldn’t hold out,” I said.
“Well the doctors are going to find out what’s wrong and they’ll make it all OK again,” Ray said reassuringly.
“I hope so. I don’t know what I’d do if I lost her,” I whispered and wiped my eyes. The three of us stood there in silence for God knows how long, just thinking.
“Mikey? The doctors wanna talk to you,” my mom said as she came outside. The three of us headed inside and a man in a white lab coat came over towards me.
“Are you Mikey?” he asked me and I nodded. “We’ve done tests and figured out what’s wrong. She has a chronic kidney infection. We’re giving her antibiotics through an IV now, but she’s going to have to be on regular pill form for a few weeks so it can clear up. It’s a good thing you got her here tonight. If you would have waited any longer, she would have had complete kidney failure,” he told me. I took a deep breath to calm myself.
“Is she going to be OK?” I asked.
“She’ll be perfectly fine. She can go home in an hour, she just needs to rest and take medication. Make sure she drinks plenty of water and bring her back if she finds any blood in her urine. Also, no sex until it clears up. She could get a bacterial infection,” he told me and I nodded.
“Can I see her?”
“Sure. She’s the sixth door on the left,” he said pointing down the hallway. I walked over to my parents, Gerard, Ray, and Olivia who were sitting down waiting for the news.
“She’s gonna be fine. She has a chronic kidney infection and they said if she got here any later, she would have had kidney failure. She’s gotta be on antibiotics for a few weeks until it clears up,” I told them. They all looked relieved.
“Go in and see her. We’ll join you in ten minutes,” my dad said and I nodded. I walked down the hall and into the door where the doctor told me to go. I walked in the room and saw Alicia in the bed, an IV sticking out of her arm, but she looked a lot better. She looked over at me as I walked in and tears formed in her eyes.
“Hey beautiful,” I said and walked over before sitting down on the bed. The tears spilled and I reached forward wiping them away.
“Mikey I’m so sorry,” she sobbed.
“No baby. No apologies. You can’t help being sick,” I told her.
“Yeah, but I should have gone to the doctor. I just wanted it to go away, so I ignored it,” she said.
“I know. It’s all right Ali. Just don’t scare me like that again. I thought I was going to loose you,” I said softly.
“I hate being like this. I hate being weak,” she told me.
“It happens baby. Everyone gets weak sometimes. I wanna take care of you though. I love you,” I said and kissed her.
“I love you too,” she whispered.
“Are you in any pain?” I asked and she shook her head.
“They gave me morphine and they’re gonna give me Vicoden when we leave,” she said.
“Good. I hate seeing you hurting,” I said. “I thought I hurt you earlier.”
“No Mikey. It felt so good, but the pain in my kidneys was just so intense, I couldn’t hold it back anymore. It just sucks we can’t have sex until this clears up,” she said sadly.
“I know, but we’ll manage. I’d rather have you feeling better than have sex with you when you’re not,” I said. An hour later, we finally got to leave. I carried Alicia out to my parent’s car while Ray, Olivia, and Gerard followed us back to the house.
“You two get some sleep. You’ve had a long night,” my mom said once we got home. We said goodnight to everyone and I brought Ali to my room and shut the door. I laid her down in the bed and crawled in next to her.
“If you’re in pain or you need help during the night, you can wake me,” I said and she nodded, cuddling up to me. My phone rang and I saw it was Frank calling.
“Hello?” I answered and yawned.
“Dude what the hell happened?” he asked, sounding like he just woke up.
“What?” I asked.
“Gerard just called me and said Alicia was in the hospital. Jill and I are in a panic over here,” he said.
“It’s all right Frank. Everything’s fine now. I was gonna call you guys, but I knew it was Jilly’s prom and you guys would be out in the Hamptons. She was feeling really sick and she collapsed so we called an ambulance and she got tests done at the hospital. She has a kidney infection, but she’s fine since she’s on medicine now,” I explained.
“Jesus. You shoulda called bro. We would have been there in a heartbeat,” he said.
“I know you would have, but I knew how important this night was to the both of you. So how was it?” I asked.
“It was good. We danced, Jill won Prom Queen, I almost killed the Prom King since he was touching her in a way neither she or I liked, and we got drunk. Hell I still kinda am drunk,” he said.
“Sounds like fun. Call me sometime this weekend,” I said.
“Sure thing. Tell Ali we love her and to feel better,” he said.
“I will,” I replied and hung up. “Jill and Frank say they love you and to feel better,” I told Ali and she smiled softly. I kissed her forehead and held her close as we let sleep overcome our exhausted bodies.
