Confrontations(Pt5)
Once the children and Malvin were settled at the table eating what Sara, a vampire of perhaps 3oo yrs old, Sav kissed Amber and gave Mal a reassuring glance, he followed Ethan to another part of the mansion. Down a long hallway decorated in much the same manner as the room he was in. Dark. 'They need a new decorator,' Sav thought. 'Bring some brightness into this place.' A large portrait at the end of the hall came into view. It dictated an ancient looking town, a full moon high above the town shined brightly down to outline the stone buildings with thatched roofs. Dim candlelight burned in some of the windows. Several dark figures where painted in various places.
“That’s what it use to look like here…..” Ethan told Sav when he stopped to look at the portrait. “….around 872, then we had this place built in 1521. If you wonder the grounds you can still see some stone from those buildings.”
Sav turned to him, a dumbfounded look on his face at the age of the house and Ethan. “Where is here?” he asked looking back at the portrait.
“Our location has always remained a secret from everyone.”
“Why?”
“From mortals and rogue vampires that wish to see us dead. For mortals it’s to wipe us and our evils ways from existence. For the rogue vampires so they can live the way they want without fear of being destroyed by us.”
”Some aren’t evil as you say.”
“Like you and your friends. Most of the communities are not like that.” Ethan told him and gestured for Sav to follow him.
Turning from the portrait, Sav followed him up a flight of stairs to another level of the house. Ethan led him down another, shorter hallway to a set of heavy oak doors. He knocked once and opened it for him. Standing back Ethan told him to go in and Rachel would be with him soon.
Sav stepped into the room and looked around. 'Well this is definitely different from the rest of the place.' Sav walked over to the two large windows stretching from floor to ceiling that looked out over a lake of pristine blue. The sun glittered off the rippling waves, a dense Forrest surrounded the banks. Turning away from the window, he glanced around the room. It had an Egyptian theme, a few artifacts where scattered about. “There probably real too.” Sav mumbled to himself. He wondered over to the bookshelves and scanned the titles, most of them dealt with Egyptian history.
“Sorry to keep you waiting Richard.”
Sav spun at the sound of her soft voice. He couldn’t stop his eyes from wondering over her body as she came toward him. He recognized her as the one that Joe had pulled off of him earlier, but she looked different now. Before she was dressed in simple jeans and shirt, now she was…hardly dressed at all. He could see her long shapely legs through the sheer black material that reached her feet, both sides were open to her hips. The top was nothing more than a solid black piece of material tied around her neck and back. If she leaned over, her breast would fall out. Sav mentally shook himself from that image and meet her eyes. They were of the darkest brown that he could ever remembering seeing. Probably the blackness of her hair that fell to her waist made them look darker.
She stopped in front of him. “I’m Rachel.” she greeted him with a warm smile.
Sav took her hand and gently shook it, her slender fingers wrapped around his.
“Come, have a seat and make yourself comfortable.” Rachel indicated to the small grouping of chairs. Sav sat in a rather large stuffed chair and followed her around the room to a table that held a bottle of their preferred drink. “Would you like a drink Richard?”
“Um… yes, thank you.”
Rachel brought over his wine glass and took the seat across from him. The fabric of her skirt fell away exposing her thigh, and the black laced up sandals. His eyes dropped to take in the smooth flesh.
“So Richard. Tell me about yourself.”
“Nothing to tell, you already know everything about me. You took enou….” His words trailed off when her hands slid over her thigh. Tearing his eyes from them he cleared his throat and met her dark brown ones. “….enough blood to know that.”
“Yes, I suppose I did.” She smiled at him.
Sav sipped his drink, staring at her over the rim of the glass, trying to measure where she wanted to take the conversations next. Sav grew somewhat impatient as the long silence continued between them. He downed the last of his drink and sat the glass on the table, looking her dead in the eyes. “Do you want to fuck me or sit here all day talking?”

Elsewhere in the house, Armand was pouring drinks for Nick and himself. Taking in his disheveled state, Armand held out his glass. Trying not to show his anger toward him, Nick reached out to take the offered drink. His hands shook ever so slightly and brought it his lips, he downed it in one gulp, almost falling backward from the motion.
Armand took the glass. “You must be exhausted, come, have a seat.”
Nick moved over to the chairs and sank gingerly into the soft chair, he flinched when he leaned back. The cuts on his back from the leather whip were slow in healing. His shoulders ached from being strung up by the wrist for hours. The dried blood on his clothes was irritating the cuts and he could hardly keep his eyes open.
“The tenderness in which you showed Richard and the others was not going to make your punishment go away that easily.”
“I wasn’t expecting it too.” Nick rasped out around his parched throat.
“What did you possibly hope to gain by treating Richard in such a fashion as to hold him against his will, in a cage meant for animals? To continue torturing him in such ways that is demeaning to anyone.”
“I wanted him for myself.” Nick said softly. “One taste of his blood could drive you crazy in wanting it again and again.”
“That I can understand, it’s been an incredibly long time since I’ve tasted one with such a passion for life, to be driven so hard about something or someone that he loves. His music and young Joseph. And to think you almost destroyed that in him by these unspeakable acts against him. Forcing him to do things he didn’t want to.”
“I did that to keep him in my life, otherwise he would have left, kept going and never looked back. Do you have any idea what it feels like wanting something so bad you would do anything to get it?”
“Nicholas….” Armand smiled wearily. He sat his glass on the table, folded his hand together in his lap and held Nick’s gaze. “…I’ve been around for a long time. I’ve seen evil doings upon the human populations in all its many forms, but never in my 2600 yrs have I known one man to be so cruel to another.”
“That’s a lie Armand….!” Nick shouted. “…. as sure as the words are out of your mouth. What of the times you tortured and killed mortals for the simple fact that you wanted dominance over them. You’re the superior being and showed them countless times.”
“Ah but, that is different you see.” He cocked his head in an arrogant way. “Those that were tortured and died by my hands, had no place in the human race. Those that would seek out to kill and pillage small villages, taking whatever they wanted, wheather it be an adult or child, it didn’t matter to them. It was the power they sought.” Armand waved his hand, brushing aside where the conversation was going. “But my actions do not explain yours against Richard and that of his friends.”
Nick slumped in his chair, the shirt biting into his back. “I don’t understand it myself, this power he has over me, it was there the first time I tasted him. And now….even after all this time, the obsession for him is still there. I can’t explain it to where anyone would understand. I wouldn’t even know where to began. I do regret what I did to him in the past and have tried to give him more freedom than before.”
“I can understand a little bit of the way you feel about him Nicholas, but its in the way you treated him that has The Elders and many of his friends, mortal and vampire alike, concerned for Richards well being.”
Nick sighed heavily and rubbed his face. “Look Armand, it’s not like that anymore, once or twice maybe after I arrived in Melbourne. It was more for the what he did to Joe than his betrayal against me.”
“The Elders have already made their decision on what to do. From what we all learned from Richard's blood.”
“It’s not like that anymore!” Nick yelled.
“Your dismissed Nicholas.” Armand’s regarded him careful, gauging his reactions.
Nick lowered his head, shame and regret clouding his mind for the first time since Sav came into his life, for all the things that he went through at Nick’s hands. He knew that no amount of talking would persuade them to change their decision. It was at that moment that Nick knew he would never see or be with him again.

“So Rick…” Liam started, remembering their earlier introduction upon entering the room and Rick quickly corrected him about the name. “…I hope you don’t think me to forward to ask this. How hard was it to cope with losing your arm and to continue playing the drums?” ”I had a great support system with my family and band mates. Drive and determination to do something I love to do and that’s to play drums and the music.”
”What about now?” Liam asked calmly.
“Now…what do you mean?”
”Is the support system still there?”
“Stronger than ever?” Rick replied with confidence.
Liam noticed the confidence in his eyes. His next question was going to test that confidence. “Would you be willing to let Richard bring you across?”

“Mr. Mortimer, you’ve a long history with the others?” Ethan asked as they both watched the children play together. Ethan had commented on how well they behaved and got along together, not the normal sibling rivalry he had seen amongst mortal children in his long life.
“Yes, started out as Steve’s guitar tech. I took the job as tour manager ‘bout ten years later.”
“Steve?” Ethan said puzzled.
Malvin looked at him. 'Maybe these blokes didn’t do their home as well as they let on.'
“Steve Clark…he was the co-lead guitarist when they first started out, he passed away in January ’91.”
”Sorry to hear that.” Ethan saw the look that Mal gave him at his words, he smiled gently. “I’m one of the more compassionate vampires in the Community. I’ve never taken a life in all my years.”
”That’s good to hear, maybe that’s why Amber trusts you.”
”Possibly.” He was silent a moment. “How did they react to his passing?”
“Steve was sick for a long time before that. He was an alcoholic and used drugs. Um…we watched him slowly kill himself, doing everything we could to get him to stop, but it just wasn’t….”
”If it bothers you to talk about this, then I’ll understand.”
“It does….how did they react…kind of expecting it but not prepared for it. They were right in the middle of finishing an album when he died. I don’t know…something gave them a hard shove one day and they finished the album as a four piece, out of respect for Steve.”
“So the support system was there, between them after Steve as it was with Rick's and his car accident?”
”Oh yes, they’ve always been close friends. They tend to watch out for one another, even now after all that has been going on.”
“I had a feeling it was like that when everyone was together in the room earlier. It’s a closeness that was easily detectable with my high senses.”
“You can see it when they’re together too. Even when they act like children.” Mal chuckled.
“So you have enough confidence to see them get through everything?”
”To get through this, whatever it’s meaning and then some.” Mal told him pointedly.
Ethan knew he spoke the truth, he could hear it in his voice and sense it. “Mr. Mortimer, would you be willing to let Richard bring you across?”

Phil pushed his plate away and leaned back in the chair. Sipping the wine, he glanced over the rim at Vas. He sat across from him reading a book, waiting on Phil to finish eating, never saying one word.
“Why couldn’t we all have dinner together?” Phil said breaking the silence.
Vas slowly closed his book and sat it aside. “We wanted to speak with you as individuals and not as a group. You can gain more information that way.”
“We have nothing to hide, no secrets between us…..well except when Sav first came back from his little mini vacation with Nick.”
“I find 2 1/2 years hardly a mini vacation.” Vas pointed out.
“Well some of us didn’t expect him to come back.” Phil said softly, looking down at his hands.
“You thought that perhaps he was dead and his body couldn’t be found?”
”Yes, in a way, but Joe keep telling everyone that he wasn’t and would show up one day.”
”And when he did and you found out what he was. What was your reaction?”
”Shock, disbelief. To find out one of your best friends is a vampire…something I never believed in, while watching another…Joe be consumed trying to find him. Then relief when Sav did come home.”
“How was that friendship when everyone found out the truth?”
“Tense at first. We never knew what Sav was going to do next. He wasn’t the same person as before, when Nick took him off to that little hideaway. But the closeness and friendship was still there. It had its tense moments, but nothing we couldn’t handle.”
“You believe that friendship could get all of you through anything?”
”Oh absolutely, without a doubt, no question about it.”
Vas saw the convictions in his eyes, the way he spoke those words, believing in them with strength that they would. Nodding his head slowly Vas held his gaze. “Mr. Collen, would you be willing to let Richard bring you across?”

Mr. Campbell, you’ve had a rough time with all of this?” Maxwell asked Vivian after his outburst of how ridicules it all seemed and was still waiting to wake up from this nightmare.
“You could say that…..just that it’s all so beyond reality and hard to digest sometimes.”
”You actual left the band and the group of friends that welcomed you with open arms years ago, there for bringing you inside their tight friendship.”
”Yes they did, but I didn’t expect any of this to come knocking down my door….for one I didn’t believe in the myth of vampires. That’s definitely all changed now.”
“But yet you offered your blood to Richard?”
“Well…um….after hearing the guys talk about it so much. I had to find out for myself. Guess that’s when reality really slapped me in the face.”
“Do you regret doing that? With the knowledge that he would want it again in the future?”
“Um….well no….not really. I mean, after all, he did persuade me in returning to the band. When I could have easily told him to go to hell and find another guitarist.“
”And now, how do you feel about it? Have you come to terms about what two of your best friends are?” Maxwell watched him contemplate his answer, giving it some good thought before he looked up to Maxwell with his answer.
“Yes I have, it was hard in the beginning after I left them. Nicks constant threats on my life. Sav flying off the handle for stupid little things like a guitar riff not sounding right. I had had enough of it, so I left. Never thinking that he would show up at my house talking me into going back. Once again they welcomed me back with open arms and didn’t blame me for leaving.”
“You're all close once again?”
“Yes, I believe its tighter now.” Vivian said softly.
Maxwell smiled warmly at him when he met his eyes. “That’s good to hear. I want you to really give my next question some hard thought before you answer.”
“Ok.” Vivian was a little apprehensive about the tone in his voice and knew he wasn’t going to like the question.
“In light of everything you've seen and know…tell me, would you be willing to let Richard bring you across?”

"Mrs. Elliott how are you?” Ian asked, staring at the beautiful woman across from him. He could see the strength in this woman for the men that were scattered though out the house and the love she has for them all.
“I’m fine thank you, but would be better if I were with my husband and children.”
“In all good time Mrs. Elliott. How have you been dealing with what you know?”
”At first it was hard, after I found out what Rick was and then my pregnancy. I feared for the safety of my unborn child. One that we never believed was possible. I love my husband very much and will stand by him in any decisions he makes.”
“Even one of being brought across if he asks you?”

While everyone answered question that were posed to them, Joe was having none of it. He paced the room or sat and glared at Angus. He was unsure what was happening with his friends, wife and children and let it be known that he didn’t approve of being separated from them. Although Sav had told him that it was all right, he still didn’t trust them. Angus plunged ahead with what he knew about them. He noticed the pain and hurt just below the surface of Joe’s green eyes when he mentioned Rick leaving him and that Nick had to rush to Melbourne to take care of him. The desperation in wanting him to return was there also. Angus found in uncanning how easy it was to read and get the feelings from Joe’s eyes.
“So since you won’t answer any of my question, just answer this one?”
”Fine, whatever.” Joe shot back.
“Would you bring any of your friends or wife across if they asked you too?”
