"You think they know?" Carrie asked, cocking her head to the side.
"Know what?" Kelly asked, doing the same as they watched the couple that was seated in the recliner.
"That the majority of the senior class is watching them make-out?"
"I think there's more important things they should be worrying about."
"Like what?"
"Well, the guy?"
"Yea?"
"He has a girlfriend...and that's not her."
"Oh," Carrie's eyes were wide.
Kelly laughed.
"Maybe if I get really drunk, then I'll be able to see the fun in this."
"Doubt it," Kelly replied as someone bumped into her.
"Oh, sorry...hey!" Stacey cheered, wobbling on her feet.
"Hey," Kelly reached out, steadying her.
"Great party, huh?"
"It's a real humdinger," Kelly nodded, causing Carrie to laugh.
"Oh, new girl," her eyes lit up.
"It's Carrie," Kelly reminded.
"Yea, yea, Carrie. I know someone who wants to meet you," she grinned.
"Meet me?" Carrie asked confusedly.
"Yep, he's right over there," Stacey pointed to the corner where a couple of guys were gathered. "He's the one in the blue shirt. He's six-one. Blue eyes. Bench press about 200. Definitely a keeper."
"Oh, I don't know," Carrie shook her head.
"Nonsense, I'll go get him," she beamed excitedly.
Carrie turned to Kelly helplessly.
"I believe at some point I did warn you that she'd hook you up with a football player. I mean, at least he's not ugly," she pointed out, nodding to the guy that Stacey was ushering over.
"Hi," he smiled, revealing a dimple on one side.
"Hi," Carrie smiled back.
"Hey KC."
"Hey Jeff," Kelly smiled as well. "This is my friend Carrie. She moved here a while back from Oklahoma."
"Oklahoma, huh? I have a cousin that lives there," he nodded.
"Really?" Carrie asked.
"Come on now, Kelly," Stacey took her arm, guiding her away from the two of them. "Let's give the two love birds some privacy."
"I don't know," Kelly protested, noticing Carrie turning to her nervously as Stacey pulled her away. "Carrie's pretty shy when she meets new people."
"Nonsense. They're perfect for each other," she insisted before turning to find her next matchup.
"Kelly!"
Kelly turned around with a huge smile, "Matt!"
He easily lifted her up off the ground as he hugged her tightly, "Man, it's been a while. Where have you been hiding?"
"You know me, working my ass off."
"I think that's impossible," he grinned.
"Shut up," she slapped his arm. "Oh my God, there's someone I want you to meet."
"Who?" he asked, watching her turn around, searching the room. "Is she hot?"
"Yea, but that's not why," she shook her head. "She's never heard of a male cheerleader that isn't gay."
"Then I'm you're guy. Did I tell you about the new lift we're doing? My hand is literally cupping Misty's--"
"I don't want to hear it," Kelly raised a hand to stop him.
"What does she look like?" Matt asked, helping her look around the room.
"Um, barely taller than me...blonde..." she frowned, no longer seeing either Carrie or Jeff. "Maybe they went get some more water."
"That's ok. I need to catch up with you first before you start showing me off to all your friends. Really, it isn't fair to me the way you parade me around."
"Oh, hush," she laughed, turning back to him. "You know you love it."
+++++++++
Kelly glanced down at her watch.
"Still haven't seen your friend yet?" Matt asked, noticing the gesture.
"No, and it's been nearly half an hour."
"Is that normal?"
"No, she's actually really shy around people she doesn't know," Kelly admitted.
"You seem worried."
"I'm sure she's fine," she replied unconvincingly. The last thing she wanted was to interrupt Carrie if she and Jeff had hit it off. "Go on and finish telling me about y'alls fishing trip."
"KC, you're worried. I can tell. Come on, we'll go look for her if it makes you feel better," he stood from the couch, offering her a hand up.
Kelly nodded, taking his hand as he led her out of the living room.
++++++++++
Carrie backed away at the feeling of Jeff's lips pressing against hers.
"Are you ok?" he asked, confused.
"Um, yea," she nodded, looking around the empty den. "Maybe we should go back."
"You sure? You said you wanted to come in here?"
"You said they had a pool table."
"They used to," he shrugged, running a hand up her arm.
She tensed, pushing him away as he tried to kiss her again, "I think we should definitely go back."
"You're the one that wanted this," he reminded, his hand now holding her arm firmly, keeping her where she was.
"No, I didn't," she replied. "Now let me go."
Jeff smiled, leaning forward as he pinned her to the wall.
"No, get off," Carrie tried to push him, but he just laughed at her attempt.
"Let her go," a male voice called out strongly.
Carrie struggled to get out of Jeff's grip.
"Jeff, let her go," the voice repeated, closer than before.
Carrie let out a shaky breath at the feeling of Jeff being pulled away from her. She felt a pair of familiar arms wrap around her protectively.
"It's ok," Kelly soothed, holding her.
Carrie buried her face in the Texan's neck, shaking.
"It's ok," she repeated.
"I was just trying to kiss her," Jeff argued.
"I'm warning you, man," Matt glared, pushing him towards the door. "Get the hell out of here."
"Thanks," Kelly smiled at him over Carrie's shoulder.
"She's ok?" Matt asked, concerned.
"Yea, I'm just gonna drive us home."
"I'll walk y'all to the car," he nodded.
+++++++++
"Are you sure you're ok?" Kelly asked, studying Carrie's face in the darkness as she lay on her side in the twin bed, looking down at the Oklahoma native.
"Yea, seriously, I'm fine."
"I'm sorry for leaving you alone."
"Kelly, really, it's fine," Carrie assured her. "He was just trying to kiss me."
"Yea, but you didn't want him too, and he shouldn't have tried to force you."
"I know, but it's ok, really."
Kelly sighed, "I still feel bad for leaving you with him. I just got caught up talking to Matt--I hadn't seen him in forever."
"It's fine," Carrie said for the thousandth time. "It just shook me up a bit, that's all. It's not like it was the first time a guy's tried to kiss me."
"I know," Kelly frowned.
"But thank you," she smiled sincerely, tugging her arm, causing her to lay down with her.
"So, final verdict on Stacey's parties?" Kelly asked, her head resting on Carrie's shoulder as she lay, curled up against her side.
"Totally not awesome."
Kelly laughed softly, leaving her arm that Carrie had tugged, draped over the taller girl's stomach.
"Thanks for going with me, though."
"Even with what happened?"
"Yea, I mean, I've seen how sucky the parties can be, and despite knowing that, you still agreed to go with me."
"Well, I didn't want you to go by yourself," Kelly admitted. "I realized after the whole bar incident that someone had to look out for you."
Carrie smiled, "Yea, yea."
"Guess, I didn't do too good of a job, huh?"
"Baby, stop beating yourself up over it. Seriously, I'm ok."
"Alright," she sighed as Carrie wrapped an arm around her, pulling her even closer.
"And tell your friend Matt, I said thanks."
"Ok...well, actually I wanted you to meet him."
"Not another hookup."
"No," Kelly smiled. "He's a straight male cheerleader. I figured you'd get a kick out of that."
"You're such a dork."
"Yea, yea."
Carrie giggled.
"What?"
"You didn't fuss at me for using your nickname," she pointed out.
"I've learned that you've just got to choose your battles," Kelly shook her head. "And this one, totally isn't worth it."
"It's because you like it, huh?" Carrie nodded. "Don't lie, you totally love your nickname."
"Alright All-star, time for bed."
"You know...you were totally right."
"About what?"
"It does sound kinky," she laughed.
"I swear," Kelly rolled her eyes.
+++++++++++
"Kelly!" Miss Stevenson, the play's director yelled.
Carrie looked up from the tree she was painting. In over a week of rehearsals, she had never heard the director fuss at Kelly a single time.
"Did you hear me say cut?" Miss Stevenson asked.
"No," Kelly replied quietly as she stood beside the boy that was playing her love interest.
"Then why did you stop before the end of the scene like you've been doing all afternoon?"
"I...I..."
"If you can't kiss him now in front of fifteen people, how do you expect to be able to do it in front of a hundred people?"
Carrie sat up straighter, noticing the Texan's cheeks turning a bright red. She couldn't remember seeing her blush before.
"Can we take a break?" Kelly asked hopefully.
"Fine," Miss Stevenson waved her off. "Take ten."
Kelly let out a sigh of relief as she walked over to the side of the stage, sitting beside Carrie.
"You ok?"
"Yea," she frowned, resting her chin in her hands as her elbows rested on her knees.
"So...what's up with the sudden stage fright?"
"I'm supposed to kiss him."
"You don't want to?"
"I don't know, it's just weird. I mean, I don't like him like that, plus everybody's watching."
"I think that's why they call it acting," Carrie replied. "It doesn't matter if you like him or not."
"You're not helping."
"You want the truth or agreement?"
"Agreement," Kelly nodded.
"Then it totally sucks that you have to kiss him."
Kelly laughed in response.
"Why don't you fake kiss him?"
"Fake kiss him?"
"Yea, watch, come see."
Kelly scooted closer so that they were directly in front of each other.
"Now, you just take your hands, and put them on his face like this," Carrie reached out, holding Kelly's face gently in her hands. "Like you're cradling it, you know?"
Kelly nodded.
"Then you put your thumbs together, and place them on his lips," Carrie explained, her actions mimicking her motions. "Or it'll probably be better if he does this to you, since he's the guy. But see," she leaned close enough that Kelly could feel her cool breath tickling her face. "When he kisses you, your lips won't actually be touching because your fingers are stopping him."
Kelly sat perfectly still, afraid to move. She felt one of Carrie's thumbs brush against her bottom lip before the Oklahoma native pulled away.
"Fake kiss," Carrie nodded with a smile.
"I don't know if I trust him though," Kelly frowned, her heart beating in her ears. She turned to eye the boy that was now on the other side of the stage, laughing with his friends.
"Why not?"
"He's totally the type that would move his fingers out of the way."
"And? It's just a kiss, Kell."
"Agreement," Kelly reminded.
"Sorry," Carrie laughed.
++++++++++
"So..." Carrie smiled as they got into her car.
"Shut it," Kelly warned.
"I'm just saying, this is the third time y'all went over the scene in a rehearsal, and still no kiss."
"Care, remember why I like you and why I trust you with certain things more so than my other friends?"
"Yea, because I don't laugh...oh," her smile fell. "Sorry."
"It's fine," Kelly replied, rubbing her eyes tiredly.
"Hey, you don't have work today, so that's a plus, and tomorrow's Saturday, so you get to sleep as late as you want."
"How do you know my schedule better than I do?"
"What else do I have to do in my spare time?"
Kelly laughed, "Yea."
"So where to?"
"Your place."
"Really?"
"Yea, you're bed's more comfortable."
"And my mom?" Carrie asked.
"You learn to deal."
"No jokes like last time."
"Fair enough. I don't want you to get into trouble or anything. Did she give you a hard time afterwards?"
"Definitely had to answer a lot of questions," Carrie nodded. "But it's fine. You said earlier you had some studying to catch up on?"
"Yea, history...you wanna help?"
"We can do the question thing again. You get one right, I answer, you get one wrong, you answer."
"You like that game?"
"I just have some questions," she smiled.
"Alright," Kelly laughed. "Sure."
+++++++++++++
"First boyfriend," Kelly smiled as they stretched out on Carrie's bed, having long sense abandoned her history homework.
"I was in the sixth grade, and he was a good three inches shorter than me."
Kelly laughed.
"Last kiss," Carrie grinned, taking a sip of water.
"Haven't we already talked about this?" Kelly asked, tossing the stuffed softball up in the air and catching it as she lay on her back.
"All you said was that it's been a while," Carrie replied sitting beside her.
"No, that's what you said," Kelly corrected.
Carrie's eyebrows raised in shock, "You've never been kissed."
"Have too," Kelly countered, sitting up.
"When?"
"It's been a while."
"When?" Carrie insisted.
"In kindergarten," Kelly blushed.
"No," Carrie gasped. "That doesn't count!"
"Yea, it does. It was Steven Tyler."
Carrie's jaw dropped, "What?"
"Yea, it was after his concert, we met him on the way to his bus. He kissed me right here," Kelly pointed to her cheek.
"That's not a kiss!" Carrie argued with a smile.
Kelly's eyes fell, "Whatever."
"No, I didn't mean it like that," Carrie said quickly. "It's not like it's a bad thing."
"It's just kinda embarrassing."
"It's cute," Carrie corrected.
Kelly rolled her eyes, "Cute."
"That's why you haven't kissed the guy in the play yet, huh?"
Kelly shrugged.
"Are you scared?" Carrie asked curiously.
"Scared? What? No, of course I'm not scared."
Carrie smiled, "Is that why you don't date a lot too?"
"I don't have the time," Kelly reminded. "You know that. You've seen what my schedule is like."
"But still, if you date someone more than like once, then eventually you'll have to kiss them, right? So, that's gotta be in your head when you think about it."
"Are you psycho analyzing me?"
Carrie laughed, "Don't change the subject. Are you scared?"
"I already said no," Kelly frowned.
"You sure? Cause I mean, it's really not that big of a deal."
"I don't know," she admitted, trying not to blush again.
Carrie's smile softened, "Seriously Kelly, you just, well, you're the girl, so you don't really have to worry about making the first move, at least not for the first kiss, and then you just close your eyes and kinda do whatever comes naturally."
"I'm not scared of kissing," Kelly determined. "I'm scared of sucking."
Carrie's mouth dropped, "Well, um, you have to get past kissing first in order to--"
"What? No!" Kelly's face turned crimson. "Sucking at kissing. I'm scared that I'll suck at kissing. That I'll be bad at it!"
"Oh," Carrie laughed. "I was about to say. You're getting a little ahead of yourself there..."
Kelly groaned, covering her face with her hand.
"Have you ever thought of just trying it out with a friend first?" Carrie asked. "I know a lot of people who's first kiss was with a friend, you know, just to see what it was like."
"I don't like the whole friends with benefits thing," Kelly said, shaking the suggestion off.
"It's just a kiss," Carrie reminded.
"Plus, all my guy friends are dating someone, at least the ones that are kissable. I mean, I don't want my first kiss to be with someone who's not at least cute."
"What about a girl friend?" Carrie asked curiously.
Kelly raised an eyebrow.
"It's not that uncommon."
"Yea, when you're like sixth grade or something, and just learning what kissing is, and you want to see what all the fuss is about," Kelly replied.
It was now Carrie's turn to raise an eyebrow.
"Don't put me on the same level as a sixth grader," she frowned. "I am way more advanced than a sixth grader."
"Not when it comes to kissing," Carrie pointed out.
"But how would that look? Hey Ashley, wanna make out?" Kelly mocked. "She'd probably punch me."
Carrie laughed, "Yea, I could see that."
Kelly sighed, laying back down, "Face it. I'm gonna die a kissing virgin."
"If you can't get past kissing, you're gonna die a virgin period," Carrie replied.
"Or I could be like Julia Roberts in Pretty Woman, and just not kiss," Kelly smiled.
"Let me know how that works out," Carrie nodded.
Kelly giggled as they settled into a silence that was somewhat tension filled, the unasked question that was on both of their minds hanging in mid-air.
Kelly took a deep breath, "Um, you know, what...what about you?"
"What about me?" she asked innocently.
"Well, you're a...you're a friend."
"Y-you want me to be your first kiss?" Carrie asked shakily.
"Um, yea, I mean, you know, I trust you and stuff, and I know you wouldn't like laugh at me or anything," Kelly replied softly.
Carrie couldn't help but smile at how cute the Texan was at that moment, "I'd love to."
"Really? You don't think it's weird?" she asked, looking up at her.
"I was the one that suggested it," Carrie reminded. "And I mean, like I said, it should be with someone you're comfortable with, and if that's me, then I'm your girl, uh, your friend."
Kelly gave a slight smile, "So, um, now what?"
Carrie laughed lightly, trying her best to keep Kelly relaxed, "You should probably sit up."
"Yea," Kelly nodded, pushing herself up to where she was sitting, facing Carrie.
Carrie smiled gently as she pushed Kelly's bangs out of her eyes, "S-so you want to do this now?"
"Now or never right?" she laughed nervously.
"Ok," Carrie nodded. She would never be able to get used to this--Kelly being the shy one, and herself taking control, "So just um, we'll do this slow, alright? So just, close your eyes."
Kelly did as she was told, lightly closing her eyes.
Carrie took a deep breath, subconsciously licking her lips as she leaned forward, softly pressing her lips against Kelly's in an innocent kiss, not wanting to catch her off guard. Carrie pulled away slightly, her blood rushing.
Kelly's eyes opened, and Carrie watched her carefully.
"You ok?"
Kelly nodded, her heart beating in her ears.
"Ok," Carrie said softly. "Now this time, just, I'm gonna really kiss you, just, try and relax and do what feels right to you, ok?"
Kelly nodded again, still unable to speak.
Carrie brought a hand up, cradling her cheek, smiling as Kelly leaned into the touch, "Ok, so..."
Carrie leaned forward once more, pressing her lips to Kelly's again, completely thrown by the softness of them. She rubbed the Texan's cheek with her thumb, trying to keep her calm as she started to move her lips against hers. She felt Kelly freeze for a moment, but she soon caught on and started to kiss her back.
Carrie felt her head grow fuzzy as the kiss continued. Kelly reached out, having a strange desire to be closer to the girl in front of her, but her hand froze in midair, not exactly sure where to go. Carrie smiled into the kiss, taking Kelly's hand and bringing it to her waist. They broke apart for a second as she pulled Kelly onto her lap.
"You still ok?"
"Yea," Kelly replied as their lips met again, feeling herself growing dizzy.
Carrie's hand slid to the back of her neck. She felt the softest of moans coming from Kelly as she deepened the kiss. The Texan immediately pulled back, her cheeks red. "Sorry."
"No, no. It's ok," Carrie assured, trying to control her breathing. "I kinda got carried away."
"Are you, I mean, was I..."
"You were...that was...it was good," Carrie nodded. "How you feeling?"
"They're tingling," she admitted, bringing a hand up to her lips, the feeling of Carrie's moving with them imprinted there.
Carrie smiled, "I told you it was nothing to be scared of."
Kelly nodded.
"So...how was your first kiss?"
"Definitely one to remember," she replied, smiling as she looked into Carrie's eyes. "Was yours anything like that?"
"My first kiss was definitely nothing like that," Carrie admitted to the Texan who was still on her lap. Kelly's face fell. "Not because of you," she promised, touching her arm gently. "Because the guy had nacho breath and tried to suck my face off. No you...if there's a such thing as a natural, you're definitely it."
Kelly laughed nervously.
Carrie sighed; her first kiss had definitely been nothing like that. It wasn't as good as that for one. But it also was no where near as heated as that. Then again, she had been twelve for her first kiss, and her hormone levels had definitely increased since then, but still. She looked at the girl on her lap who was lost in thought, her eyes holding a mixture of confusion, fear, and nerves in them.
"Come see," Carrie said, opening her arms to her.
"Huh?" Kelly asked, looking up at her.
"I'm in need of one of those hugs that you give that I love so much," she replied.
Kelly grinned, allowing Carrie to pull her into a close hug.
"You're not weirded out are you?" Carrie asked softly. "Cause that was completely innocent."
Kelly shook her head as she hugged her back tightly.
"Then what's on your mind?"
"I'm not sure. A lot. It's just all jumbled."
Carrie nodded, rubbing her back as she pulled away.
"Thanks," Kelly smiled softly.
"Anytime," Carrie replied.
Kelly raised an eyebrow, as she smirked playfully, "Really?"
Carrie laughed, realizing what she had said, "If you're lucky."
