3 months later.
“Chester here. Not home at the moment, but leave me a message and I’ll get back to you.” Chester’s recorded message filled Mike’s head with disappointment since he had been desperate to talk to him.
“Hey, it’s me. Mike. I just wanted to let you know that Anna rang me. She just said that she wants to talk. I think that she might have decided on what she wants for her future. Or our future. I’m … I’m just … a little nervous. And wanted to talk it off. I’m meeting her at 8pm… Yeah, but we’ll talk later.
Mike put the receiver back and felt the anxiety settle in his stomach. He had been waiting for this day for so long, but now he wasn’t sure that he was ready for it. Him and Anna had started off with dates and simple things; like holding hands. They had been talking a lot about everything that had gone on between them. But one thing had been left unsaid. But one thing had been left unsaid. Mike hadn’t told her about the incident with Rob or his feeling that had been so confusing. And that a part of him was still trying to sort it out. Something like that would do more harm than good. Mike shrugged it off and decided to not even think about it unless it was brought up in any way. One thing was for sure: if she asked, one way or the other, he wouldn’t be able to keep it from her. He shrugged it off once again and thought to himself that why would she ever bring up something like that? Abruptly getting pulled back to reality, Mike heard the phone ringing.
“Mike here.” His mind was still tumbling with all kinds of thoughts as hard ard Chester’s voice in the other end.
“Hey… I just heard your message. That’s crazy, huh?” Chester sounded particularly happy. “Can you deal with it or are you going out of your mind being nervous?”
“The last thing sounds about right to me at the moment….” Mike could hear his own voice sounding shaken up.
“Yeah, I can imagine… but by all means, talk it off if you need it.” Chester’s voice had calmed down a bit from when he last spoke. Mike suddenly didn’t know what to say or how to ease the anxious sensation of butterflies in the pit of his stomach.
“I’m not too sure what to say…” He admitted to his friend. “I’m very much in the dark when it comes to how Anna feels about everything.”
”But you two haven ten talking a lot over the last 3 months… don’t you at least have some idea of how she feels?!” Mike nodded, knowing that Chester proved a good point with that question.
“I thought I did…” Mike played with a pen in front of him as he thought of Anna’s voice over the phone. “But not so much anymore.” He could hear Chester sigh on the other end, not of annoyance but of not being able to help more.
”It’ll be okay… don’t worry.” Chester’s voice was reassuring to Mike as he started to smile and then nodded to himself.
“Yeah. I guess it will.”

“Are you serious?” Mike wanted to jump of joy and get up from his couch to walk over to her. He settled with getting up from his seat, but stood still.
“Yes, you’ve been proving your love to me for long enough. And I guess a part of me always knew.” She smiled and looked at her feet. “And I never doubted my love for you. I just had to make sure that you wanted me too.”
“But baby… I want you so much.” He went all the way over to her and felt her soft embrace. “I’ve missed you so much, Anna.” He could hear a muffled chuckle against his shoulder.
“I know.” She looked up at him and smiled. “I missed you too.”
“But are you absolutely sure that you want this?” Mike looked at Anna with serious eyes that begged for her to mean it more than anything.
“Yes. I trust you.” She smiled. “I know that you are honest with me. I just wish that you never forced me to lose my faith in you. Even though it wasn’t for more than a second.”
“It sure felt like more than a second.” Mike tried to smile back but still couldn’t believe that she was back in his arms.
“By the way… why do you ask? Do you have anything you need to tell me?” She looked at him and met his eyes. Mike stood for a moment and thought about Rob and the many feelings that were mixed into their friendship. But the mere idea of losing her again… he wasn’t sure his heart could take it. But would she be able to understand? If he told the truth… would she still be there? He took a deep breath and looked her into her blue eyes with a smile on his lips.
“No. There’s nothing.” He pulled her back towards him and sighed. “This is how it’s supposed to feel like.” She reached up and kissed him with such great passion.

At Emily’s.
“This can’t be happening.” Gemma shook her head in disbelief and looked over at Emily who obviously didn’t know whether or not she should smile or cry with her friend.
“But it is.” Emily said and nodded in the direction of the sink where a small plastic box was laid. “You’re pregnant, Gemz.” Gemma felt like crying, but her tears couldn’t decide on joy or sorrow and decided to stay in. How would Rob take this? And was she even ready for such a big step? Maybe she was. She was. But maybe he wasn’t. He’d always said it was too early for children – and she didn’t want it if he didn’t. She didn’t want him not to want it.
“What are you thinking about?” Emily’s hand reached her shoulder.
“How am I going to tell Rob?” Gemma placed a hand on her forehead as if to wipe away the non-existing sweat.
“Tell Rob what?” The two girls yelped in surprise and turned around to see Brad standing in the doorway. They exchanged a quick look and said in unison.
“Nothing.” Emily walked over to him with a smile on her face and planted a sweet and short kiss on his lips.
“Don’t give me that ‘nothing’ crap.” Brad chuckled. “You girls looked dead-serious.” Emily turned around and looked at Gemma who were shifting the weight from one foot to another – and back again.
“Should we tell him? You can trust him, you know.” Emily’s smile was reassuring and Gemma sat down on the toilet seat with a sigh.
“I know that I can… but it means I have to say the words out loud and I’m not sure…” Gemma wasn’t given time to finish her sentence before Brad interrupted her.
“Just say it, Gemz.” He kneeled down in front of her and looked her dead in the eye. “Whatever it is.”
“I might be… uhm… I mean… I am…” She suddenly threw him a big smile and reality hit her. “… expecting.” Brad kept staring at her like he had no idea what she was talking about.
“You are expecting what?” He looked over his shoulder at Emily who rolled her eyes.
“She’s expecting.” Emily raised an eyebrow as to emphasise what was said.
“Oh my…” Brad’s wide-eyed expression looked too funny to Gemma and she chuckled.
“Surprised?” She felt herself get less worried when he smiled.
“Very! But are you happy?” He was obviously concerned.
“I think I am.” She nodded slowly and kept her eyes locked with his.
“Good. Will Rob be happy about it?” Brad looked back at Emily’s smiling eyes and they shared a secret thought.
“That’s the problem.” Brad’s head snapped back to look at Gemma.
“Problem? Why?” He looked confused around the room and a frown formed itself between his eyes.
“Yeah… cause I have a feeling he’s not ready for this step. And if he’s not… then … I wont lose him, but…”
“Trust me. He might be happy. And there’s no way he’s going to leave you.” Brad reached for her hand and she gave it to him.
“How can you be so sure?” Gemma’s questioning eyes searched for answers in both Brad’s and Emily’s eyes. The couple exchanged another secret look before Brad turned back to Gemma.
“Just trust me on this one. Don’t ask why or how. Just trust me.” His eyes were almost begging her not to ask and Gemma knew that he must know something she didn’t. But with everything going on in her mind – the chaos – she didn’t need more, and decided to accept what he said. She nodded and looked at Emily. The look on her face. She knew too.
