Whatever doubts Rebecca might have had about the boys giving a concert in a completely different setting were dashed as they took the stage and gave a more subdued concert that still held all the joys of each of the bands. She had laughed through Pete’s crazy stories that he always threaded throughout the concerts, giggled as she watched William bounce around the stage with his normal exuberance, and she had watched as Brendon had gave the performance his all, goofy expressions and such. She knew that the boys would be given a brief break so that they could clean up after performing, and that she would be announcing the winner of the radio contest, along with the remainder of the evening’s events, which included a four course meal and a prominent speaker on the charity cause. She shook her head lightly as she watched her brother bound back out onto the stage with a goofy look on his face, the hated tie now gone from around his neck.
“Thank you all for coming out tonight. And now let me introduce the lady who did all the planning after our previous planner ditched us just yesterday after spending all of our money. She was certainly a well taught lady.” Pete paused for the polite chuckles to spread through the room then motioned for Rebecca to come up onto the stage. “Let me introduce my baby sister, Miss Rebecca Wentz.”
Rebecca walked up on stage, laughing under her breath at the introduction. She was hardly a baby, but she knew that Pete liked to say that just to tease her, especially in public. She took the microphone from him with a smirk, rolling her eyes lightly as he showily kissed her on the cheek before rushing back offstage to quickly get cleaned up. She turned back towards the room full of people with a smile on her face, blushing a little at the applause.
“Thank you. Like my brother so aptly put it, I am here to announce a few more things before the evening continues. First I would like to thank each and every one of you for coming out to support our cause, it means a lot to each of us, and we are glad that others share the compassion for it. Secondly, I am also here to announce the next proceedings of the evening, along with the winner of a contest from the local radio station of WAZU 94.3 FM that has also helped us to prepare this lovely benefit.”
Rebecca paused for a moment to let the applause for the radio station to die down some again. She hated public speaking, which she had the sneaking suspicion that was why Pete had asked her to do it. But she would get him back for that soon enough.
“Next on the schedule of events is the four course meal provided by the staff of the lovely hotel that we are fortunate enough to be seated in, also the entertainment shall be provided by the string quartet on staff here as well. Following the dinner shall be our keynote speaker, Mr. Albert Hernand, who has been our go-between for our entire involvement with the cause we are here supporting tonight. After Mr. Hernand’s speech, will be the collection of donations available at this time. Donations will also be taken at the charity’s main office downtown in the Dopplemeyer Building. But now it is my pleasure to welcome another person to the stage, the man behind the idea of the contest to help in our cause this evening, the Publicity’s Manager of WAZU, Mr. Brad Richell.”
Rebecca smiled and clapped as the older man walked up onto the stage, taking the microphone from Rebecca with a kind smile. She stepped over to the side for a moment as he spoke before taking the mic back as he handed to her and stepped off the stage.
“Thank you. As Miss Wentz said, my station has supported the bands in this event and have also given our listeners a chance to show their support for the cause as well by taking donations from listeners and donating them all to the charity. The contest in question is one that has a prize for not only the lucky listener who was fortunate enough to win the prize, but also a prize for our cause, which came in the form of the largest single donation to our branch of the drive. But I’m going to allow Miss Wentz to announce the winner and the prize. Thank you again.”
“As Mr. Richell said, the winner tonight has also given the largest single donation to the fund in response to hearing of her win.” Rebecca smiled and paused as the light smatter of applause, motioning for the boys to come back out onto the stage, smiling as she took the envelop with the winner’s name in it from Patrick. She turned back to the crowd with a smile.
“The winner of the contest has been awarded not only several items of merchandise from each of the bands represented tonight along with the radio station, but has also won the chance to have an evening with the member of their choice of the bands represented here as well.”
Rebecca grinned at the scattered laughter throughout the room, although she knew several girls that would be a little upset if certain boys were chosen, Cat still looked like she was about to throttle someone, namely Pete. She heard another scattering of laughter and turned to see Spencer and Ryan trying to rush back off the stage, only to be caught and pulled back out by Pete.
“And now, would one of the wonderful drummers care to give me a drumroll?”
She laughed as Spencer rushed to hope behind his drumset, quickly obliging before either of the other drummers could rush to hide behind the drums. She turned back to the crowd and pulled open the envelop, taking the slip of paper out and reading the name off to herself to make certain she could read it properly. Luckily they had written it in a large enough font that she wouldn’t have to squint or worse.
“And the winner of the contest is Lilly Marshalls. Lilly, come up to receive your prize.”
Rebecca clapped along with the others in the room as a petite redhead bounced up onto the stage, quickly grabbing her in a hug, at which Rebecca pulled away as discretely as she could. Finally when the girl seemed to have calmed down, Rebecca smiled and continued.
“And just who would you like to have the honor of having one evening with?”
“Andy Hurley, of course!”
Rebecca managed to keep from giggling at the other girl’s exuberance and excitement. She turned and motioned for Andy to come up to the front from where he was hiding behind Patrick, or was trying to hide. She smirked as Patrick pushed him out to the front of the stage, giggling lightly as the redhead promptly kissed him on the cheek. She could tell by the look in his eyes that he was a little more than terrified of the redhead’s excitement.
“Thank you. And now for our meal. Enjoy the food and following speech.”
Rebecca giggled as she walked off the stage, at the last minute being pulled backstage by Andy, who looked as if he was absolutely terrified of the excitement the redhead had shown. Andy would never be rude, but she could see that the over-excitement that the redhead had shown had made him a little cautious.
“Yes, Andy?”
“You have to promise me that if this turns out to be some psycho stalker fangirl that you and Patrick will go along with me on this evening thing. Please Becca, I’m willing to go along with it. I’m just a little worried about the jumping hyper fangirl I could have sworn just tried to rape me in front of all those people.”
Rebecca laughed and gave her friend a quick hug, patting him on the back. She could see that he was actually a little intrigued by the entire blind date evening out thing, but that the bouncing exuberance had made him a little worried that maybe he had made the wrong decision in agreeing to it.
“Don’t worry, Andy. I’m sure that she was just excited at the prospect of getting to finally meet you, not to mention go out with such a sexy man as yourself. But if we find out anything to make us worried, I’ll ask Patrick about going along with you. Now come on, let’s eat.”
