Chapter 28: And We’ll Never Be Lonely Anymore
∞♥♥∞
We did our interview with Ryan a week later. We had even gone into the studio to talk with him, instead of just giving the interview over the phone. Ryan treated us a whole lot better than Hank had. He was patient, and polite, and didn’t push us to tell anything more than we wanted to. We should have just gone to him in the first place. At least, Chris had thought of Ryan eventually, even if it was a little late. We announced our engagement, though for now, Chris and I wanted to keep our wedding date a secret. We’d decide later if we eventually wanted to tell the date, but we definitely were not going to tell it before we were married. We didn’t want a bunch of paparazzi photographing us during the wedding. We wanted our wedding to be a private thing. However, we did end up inviting Ryan to the wedding. He accepted. I was glad that we had at least one radio DJ friend that we could trust. Those were hard to find nowadays.

Come June, Blake and I went to LaKisha’s wedding. She was marrying her boyfriend of a few years, Theodore “Teddy” Franklin. Blake and I weren’t in the wedding since she already had her daughter, a friend, Gina, Jordin, Haley, and Melinda as her bride’s maids and her best friend as her matron of honor. Teddy had his own friends for his side of the wedding. Blake and I weren't offended though. We were just happy to be invited.
“I can hardly wait until that’s us, I said to Blake later at the reception s we watched Teddy and LaKiSha dance their first dance as husband and wife.
He grinned, and held my hand, giving it a gentle squeeze. “It will be soon enough. I can hardly wait either.”
“So, where are you guys going to get married at?” Jordin asked, coming up to us.
Blake and I looked at each other.
“Um, we’re not sure,” I said, looking at Jordin again.
She laughed. “Have you guys made any plans yet?”
Blake shook his head. “Um, not really. No.”
“Well, you better get going on it. You only have five months left of planning.” She winked at us.
Again, Blake and I looked at each other. I think we were both in agreement, that neither he nor I, knew anything about planning a wedding. I guessed now was the time to figure it out.

“Not to sound stupid, but… Where would we start?” I asked.
Chris laughed. “I’m wondering the same thing.”
“Well, the first thing is, you have to decide where you want to have the wedding, who you want to marry you, and of course, who you want to be in the wedding. I know you guys go to the courthouse and sign some papers, and that is what legally marries you, but you still want a ceremony. Right?” Jordin asked.
“Yes. I know a ceremony isn’t necessary in a domestic partnership, but I want one anyway. I want our friends and family to be able to celebrate with us,” Chris said.
I nodded in agreement. I had been on the fence about having a ceremony. It would save a lot of time if we just signed the papers and that was that. However, a wedding might be nice. I knew my family would want to see me get married. Now knowing that Chris wanted a ceremony, I agreed that we would definitely have one.
“I was thinking it would be nice to take a boat out and be married on a boat in the ocean. I can see the water all around us with the sun setting. Then at night we could have our reception right there on the boat,” Chris said.
“Oh my gosh that sounds so romantic! You totally have to do that,” Gina said, coming over to us just then.
That did sound nice. “I’m all for it,” I said. “We wouldn’t have to worry about onlookers that way either.”
Chris grinned, and kissed me. “We’ll have to look into places, and see if there is anywhere we can rent a boat.”
“I can help you look. I’ll get on my computer tonight. I’m sure there are places that rent out boats for weddings,” Gina said.
“Thank you. That will be a big help,” I said.
Haley headed over now, sensing that we were discussing something interesting. “What’s up?”
“Blake and Chris want to get married on a boat. Won’t that be romantic?” Gina asked her.
Haley grinned. “Yeah, it will be! Where? In Washington somewhere?”
“It has to be, because that is where we are signing our partnership,” Chris told her.
“Not necessarily. It’s not the ceremony that is going to marry us; it is the papers we sign beforehand.” I turned to him. “I know how much you love Virginia Beach. Why don’t we get married on the water there? I’m sure there’s got to be a port somewhere near there, right?”
He smiled. “Really? That would be perfect! I’d love to have our ceremony there. You really wouldn’t mind?”
“I’d love to have our wedding there. Of course I don’t mind. It makes you happy.” I kissed his hand.
“Aw!” Jordin, Gina, and Haley all cooed.
Chris and I both rolled our eyes, but smiled nonetheless.
“Who gets to be in the wedding? Us? Huh?” Gina joked.
“Sure!” I said.
“I was just joking. You don’t need to have us in your wedding if you don’t want to,” Gina assured us.
“We want to,” I said.
Chris nodded. “I also want to have my hometown friends in the wedding, but there is no law that you have to keep your wedding party small—or that guys have to have only guys in their wedding party and vice-versa.”
“Gina, do you want to be one of my groom’s maids?” I asked.
She smirked. “Groom’s maid?”
“Unless you want me to call you a groom’s man,” I said.
“Sure, I’ll be a groom’s maid,” she said without hesitation then.
The bunch of us laughed.
“I’d be honored. Thank you,” she then added.
“Jordin, of course I want you to be my maid of honor,” Chris spoke up then.
Jordin squealed and clapped her hands together. “Yay!”
He smirked. “I'll take that as a yes.”
She grinned. “Yes!”
Haley cleared her throat.
“Haley, I want you as my groom’s maid,” Chris said before I could say anything.
“I accept!” she said, grinning brightly. “Thank you.”
I didn’t mind. Haley was closer to Chris than me anyway. Not that I didn’t love Haley. I did. She was a good friend.
“Let’s go find the others so we can ask them,” I said, now getting excited to have things moving along.
Chris grinned. “Okay!” He sounded as excited as I was. I could hardly wait for the wedding. I planned on making it the best wedding ev-ah.

Blake and I were splitting the top ten up. He was taking half, and I was taking half. After asking Jordin to be my maid of honor and Haley to be my groom’s maid, I also asked Melinda and Sanjaya to be my groom’s maid/men. It would be too funny to have Sanjaya as Blake’s groom’s man. Melinda and Sanjaya both agreed. Blake had asked Phil, Sligh, and LaKisha to be his groom’s men/maid, and the three had graciously accepted. I was going to ask Blue to be my best man, and MaDookie, Antonetta, my sister, my sister’s husband, and Jorge to be my groom’s maids/men. If they all accepted, I would have a maid of honor and a best man, as well as eight groom’s maids/men. It was going to be a big wedding party, but who cares? Blake was going to have two best men—Cisco and Ethan. He would have Phil, Sligh, Kristi, Andrea, Ginger, Shyamali, LaKisha, and Gina as his groom’s maids. That would even it out, giving him two best men and eight groom’s maids/men as well. Needless to say, after the wedding, I felt very accomplished.
The next few weeks were spent planning the wedding. Everyone Blake and I had asked to be in the wedding had agreed to be in it. That was a weight lifted off our shoulders. Also, Gina had looked up boat rentals online, and sure enough, she had found a company that rents out boats for weddings. There was even a captain who was going to steer the boat for us. He would also marry us, but being a Christian, I really wanted a pastor to marry Blake and I—not a captain of a boat. I would take what we could get though. I knew there probably weren’t many pastors who would be willing to marry same-sex partners.
All of our friends were doing their part in helping us prepare for the wedding, so that was a really big help.
Haley was great with fashion, so she was going to find groom’s maid dresses. She had gotten everyone’s measurements and wrote them down. Then she was on a mission to find the most beautiful dresses in green. That is another thing Blake and I had decided upon—our wedding colors. They were going to be green and brown. We thought it would be cute to do turtle and moose colors. Blake also liked it because the colors weren’t too girly. Go figure.
Phil was taking care of the guys’ measurements and suits.
Jordin was taking care of the flowers. Neither Blake, nor I knew much about flowers, so she was going to pick out what flowers we would have.
Blake and I were handling our suits and the music.
Sligh was picking out the food. He knew the best foods, after all.
I knew Blake and I should want to decide everything ourselves, but we were happy to not have to arrange everything. Besides, our friends being a part of our wedding meant a lot to us.
Since there was no bride, both Blake’s and my families had told us that they would pay for the wedding. It was their wedding present to us. Of course Blake and I had insisted that it was too much for them to pay for, but they had insisted that it wasn’t. There was no arguing with either set of parents, so it was settled. They would pay or our wedding. Blake and I both planned on buying them a big thank you gift. We just weren’t sure what to get them yet.
“So, should we hire a band?” Blake asked as we were looking off our wedding checklist that LaKisha had made for us.
“You know I’d love to have Elliot Yamin or Maroon 5,” I said.
“I’d love to have Maroon 5 as well. I think they’d perform for us. They aren’t on tour now or anything,” Blake said.
So he called them up, and they were more than happy to do it. In fact, they said they would do it for free as a wedding present to us. Blake and I were both so happy.
Everything just kept falling into place for us. I really hoped that it was a sign that our wedding was going to go well. So far, everything was looking great. I was confident that it would stay that way.

I really wanted to surprise Chris with a pastor. I knew he wanted a pastor, and not a captain, to marry us. So, I looked up online some Virginian pastors, and I sent out emails, or called when there was a number. It took a couple of tries, but then I fell upon a Pastor David Kennedy. He said that he believes God loves all His children, and wouldn’t discriminate against Chris and I just because we’re gay. So, he agreed to marry us. I thanked him profusely, so happy that I had finally found a pastor, and that I was going to be able to make one of Chris’ dreams come true. I could hardly wait to tell him.
I did so that night. We were in my Washington home, and he was looking over houses that our new Real-Estate agent had sent us. We were going to buy our new home together. I had picked out my current house on my own, and we wanted one that we had both picked out together. I had never planned on my current house being my permanent house anyway, so it wasn’t that big.
Anyway, I wrapped my arms around him from behind, and kissed his cheek. “Guess what?”
He grinned, and swirled the computer chair around so that he was facing me. “What?”
“I just got off the phone with this pastor from Virginia. I have been looking around, trying to find a pastor that would be willing to marry us, despite us being the same sex.”
“And?” he asked.
“And he agreed to marry us!” I said, grinning brightly, and knowing that Chris’ grin was soon to follow.
Sure enough, he smiled so brightly, it made my heart jump. His smile always did that to me.
“So we don’t need to be married by a captain? We can be married by a pastor?” he asked, his voice filled with hope.
I nodded and grinned.
He squealed, and pulled me in for a deep kiss.
I moaned into the kiss. I loved kissing that man. This alone made all the searching I had done worth while.
When he broke the kiss, he nuzzled his cheek against mine. “I love you so much. Thank you, Blakey. This is the best gift you could have given me, besides yourself of course.” He winked at me.
I smiled, and quickly kissed his lips. “I was happy to do it. I want you to have everything you dreamed of having on our wedding day.”
“I already got everything I dreamed of having when you agreed to marry me,” he said.
I felt my eyes start to fill with tears. “I love you so much. Look at me, acting like an emotional girl. Only you could do this to me, you know.” I was a little embarrassed that his words had touched me so much.
He wiped away my tears with his thumbs, and then kissed my eyes one at a time. “It’s nothing to be ashamed of. I like it when you get emotional. It shows your not as bad ass as you always try to make yourself out to be.” He grinned.
I grinned too. “I am bad ass, punk”
“Actually, I think you have a rather good ass,” he said with a smirk.
“I do, don’t I?” I asked, slapping my own but.
He laughed. “You’re crazy.”
“Crazy for you,” I said.
His eyes lowered, and he pulled me down onto his lap, where he kissed me more passionate than he ever had before. I most certainly couldn’t complain. I moaned into the kiss, so thankful to have Chris in my life.

I was so lucky to have Blake. I sent a silent prayer to God, thanking Him for sending me Blake. I thanked God every night for Blake. I was so happy that Blake had found us a pastor that would marry us. I was never going to forget this.
“So,” Blake said, nodding towards the computer screen after he had broken the kiss, “do you see any good houses that we might like?”
I grinned, and wheeled us back so that we were facing the computer. “Actually, I found four of them that have a fireplace in the bedroom. One of them even has a hot tub in the master bathroom.”
He grinned. “Really? Let me see.”
I clicked on the said house, and he looked at the pictures and read the description.
“That’s just ten minutes from Bothell! I think we should check that one out first,” he said
I grinned. “I already took care of it. I called up Max, and he said he can show us the house tomorrow if we’d like.”
Blake grinned too, and pulled me in for another kiss. “I want to take you to bed now,” he said matter-of-factly.
I shut off the computer. “Well by all means, take me then,” I said. I was suddenly very in the mood for Blake. I loved making love with him—even more now that we were engaged. It made it more exciting somehow.
He moaned. “With pleasure!”
I laughed, and he got up off the chair, extending his hand to me.
I took it and stood up. Then, he did something stupid. He tried to pick me up, but it just wasn’t happening.
“Baby, I’m taller than you—not to mention more muscular. What made you think you could carry me?” I asked, amused.
He pouted. “I wanted to be able to pick you up so that I can carry you over the threshold when we’re married.”
“Well, I can just carry you.” I picked him up to prove my point.
“But I’m the man; not the woman,” he said, still pouting.
“Hey! I may be younger than you, but I’m no woman.” I kissed him, and carried him up to our bedroom. “But if you really want to carry me, I suggest you start working out now. You have less than five months now.”
He smiled. “I’ll be able to come our wedding night. You just wait and see.”
I smirked as I lay him down on our bed. “I highly doubt that,” I said. I then got on top of him, and kissed him before he could protest to that. No matter what he said, I was the man in our relationship, and I was always going to take care of my “wife”.
