"Will keep calling you to see
If you're sleepin are you dreamin and,
If you're dreamin are you dreamin of me."

Carrie was curled up in the back seat of the car as she, her manager, and her assistant made their way back that night. She didn't want to look at the time, knowing that she should have been back home hours ago. All the lights in the houses they had passed were off. Everybody else must have been in bed. Lucky them, she sighed to herself.
They turned the corner onto a smaller street, and Carrie immediately sat up.
"You ok back there?" her manager asked.
"Yea, I'm fine Laura," Carrie replied, realizing why she recognized the area. They passed by a beautiful new house, with only one light on. It was the only light on down the entire road. Carrie took out her phone.
Still up? she typed quickly before pressing send.
Kelly's name was soon flashing across her screen: Just got in.
Carrie smiled. Feel like a visitor?
As long as they're a blonde down home country girl.
"Turn around," Carrie instructed.
"Carrie, it's late," Laura replied. "I don't care if you forgot one of your shoes somewhere again. You can buy another pair. Heck, I'll buy you another pair, but we all need some sleep sweetie."
"No, I'm not going home," Carrie replied, beaming. "Turn around."
"If you're not going home, then where are you gonna sleep?"
"A friend's house. If you don't turn around, I'll jump out the window."
"The child lock's on," Laura laughed, pulling into a drive way to turn around.
"Did you really think I was gonna jump out the window?" Carrie asked, practically bouncing in her seat.
"Are you having a delayed reaction to that cappuccino you had earlier or something?"
"Here," Carrie instructed. "Pull in here."
"Wow," Ann breathed, sitting up in her seat. "Some friend."
"Ok," Carrie smiled, getting out of the vehicle. "I'll see you guys tomorrow."
"Wait," Laura rolled down her window. "You're staying here?"
"Yea," she nodded.
"Who's house is this?"
"Sorry, singer-singer confidentiality," she grinned before sneaking her way past the first darkened window, not sure which window belonged to which room or to whom the said room belonged.
"Carrie!" Ann hissed from her window.
Carrie ignored her as she reached the lit window; she looked inside to find it exactly as she remembered. She noticed the Texan, sitting at her desk, completely engrossed with whatever she was working on on her laptop.
"I know she's not gonna climb through that window," Laura shook her head.
"I'll bet you twenty bucks she does," Ann replied.
"Done. There's no way Carrie'd do something like that."
Carrie tapped on the glass, causing the Texan to jump and spin around in her chair. Carrie smiled broadly as recognition crossed Kelly's face. She waved as Kelly walked to the window, opening it up.
"I didn't think you were serious," Kelly laughed. "You scared the crap out of me."
"Passed your house, and saw your light was still on. Figured you could use some company because apparently nobody else has crazy schedules, and they get to actually sleep during the night."
"I'd love some company," Kelly smiled, helping Carrie through the window.
"I've always wanted to do that."
"Climb through someone's window?"
"Yea," she nodded.
"Well, I'm glad I could be a part of your dream coming true," Kelly teased as she closed the window back down. "Who's vehicle?"
"That's my manager and my assistant," Carrie replied, waving to them that she was ok.
"You just told them to pull over and drop you off?"
"Yep."
Kelly just shook her head as she made her way back to her desk, pulling another chair for Carrie to sit on, "Come help me out with this."
"What are you working on?"
"A puzzle."
"A puzzle? I thought you were actually working when I walked up. I almost felt bad for interrupting you."
"You didn't feel bad," Kelly rolled her eyes.
"I know, but I could have."
"Anyway, yea, a puzzle, they help me to unwind. I usually read, but I'm out of books--I need to go get some more."
Laura cursed under her breath as she handed Ann a twenty before pulling out of the driveway, "How'd you know she'd do that? She'd never do something like that."
"You forget, I've known her since she first started. She's not as high-strung as she leads you to believe," Ann replied, pocketing the money with a smile. "She's got you all fooled."

"Can you help me remember how to smile,
Make it somehow all seem worthwhile,
How on earth did I get so jaded,
Life's mystery seems so faded."

"Kelly," Carrie grumbled from where she lay, stretched out on top of Kelly's bed. She had already changed into something more comfortable, and she couldn't help but notice that the shirt she was wearing smelled like Kelly.
"I'm almost done; I promise," Kelly replied.
Carrie rolled her eyes, pushing herself onto her feet. She placed her hands on the back of Kelly's chair, looking at the screen. She wasn't almost done. In fact, she had just started a new puzzle.
"Kell," she laughed, spinning her chair around so that she was facing her. "Bed time. Let's go."
Kelly looked up at her, droopy-eyed.
"Come on sunshine," Carrie smiled, taking Kelly's hands and pulling her to the bed.
"The lights," Kelly pointed out.
"I got them," Carrie replied. "You get in bed."
"Bossy," Kelly teased as she climbed under the covers.
The room immediately darkened as Carrie flicked the switch before feeling her way to the bed.
"Poop," Carrie cursed.
"You ok?" Kelly asked quickly.
"I think I just ran into your dresser," she frowned.
"Give your eyes a second to adjust to the dark, nerd."
"Who you're calling a nerd?" Carrie asked, finally making it to the bed. "You're the one up at three in the morning doing puzzles."
"Don't be jealous of my mad puzzle skills," Kelly replied, scooting over to allow Carrie more room.
Carrie just laughed as she laid down next to her, "Busy day?"
"Ugh," Kelly groaned, covering her eyes with a hand.
"What all you did?" she asked curiously.
"Studio, Interview, Studio, Meeting, Studio."
"Meeting for your album?"
"Yea," she sighed.
"How'd that go?"
"Crap," Kelly admitted, turning onto her side and into Carrie.
"Aw," Carrie laughed softly, wrapping an arm around her. "I'm sure it wasn't that bad. I've heard some of the stuff. It's really, really good."
"Yea, well, you're the only one that thinks so."
"That's not true," Carrie replied, rubbing her back soothingly. "Both times I went to the studio with you, everybody there was raving about it. You should've learned by now not to listen to those stiffs anyway, right?"
"Yea, I know," she sighed, putting her arm around Carrie's stomach.
"So, why are you letting it bother you?"
"I don't know."
"Graham texted you today?"
"Yea," Kelly mumbled. "Three times."
"Did you reply?"
"No," she shook her head.
Carrie wrapped her arms tighter around the shorter singer, "You should really think about changing your number."
"I have, but then I'd have to give everybody my new number, including all the people that I work with, and it'd just be a pain in the butt."
"Wouldn't you rather that then have to deal with him?" Carrie asked.
"I don't know," she pouted, rubbing her eyes with a balled fist.
"You sure are fussy when you're tired," Carrie smiled.
"You're lucky," Kelly replied. "I'm normally bitchy."
"I doubt that," Carrie said as Kelly shifted slightly, resting her head on Carrie's chest.
"How was your day?"
"It was good," she replied, placing her chin onto of Kelly's head. "It was busy, but a fun type of busy, you know?"
"Yea, I love those."
"Me too," Carrie agreed.
"Care?"
"Yep?"
"I'm, uh, I'm really glad I got to know you," she confided. "I mean, that's ok for me to say, right?"
"It's perfectly ok," Carrie smiled, giving her a gentle squeeze. "And me too. It's nice for once to talk to someone who actually gets it, you know?"
"Yea," Kelly replied.
"And someone that I don't have worry bout them only in this to get something out of it, you know?"
"I think that's been the hardest thing for me," Kelly nodded. "Having to realize that the majority of people out there only want to talk to me because of what my name is and not who I am. But then, at the same time not wanting to pass over the people that are actually in it for the right reasons."
"You think you've been burned by more, or passed over more?"
"Um, I guess in a sense both," she said thoughtfully as she began to play with the soft blonde curls that fell just below the country singer's shoulders.
"Ok?"
"You know, I seriously try to give everybody a chance, but I just never let them fully in, and I know that. I guess, it's just so when they end up screwing me over, it won't hurt as bad."
Carrie frowned, "Sounds like it could get a bit lonely."
"Well, I mean, I have most of my best friends from when I was little, and I have my band and my family."
"Still sounds lonely."
"Yea," Kelly sighed. "What do you do?"
"Try to just follow my gut," she said. "I mean, for the most part it hasn't steered me wrong yet. At first, I got screwed over quite a bit, but now I can usually tell right away what a person's after."
Kelly nodded as they fell into a silence.
"What about me?" Carrie asked after a moment. "Are you gonna let me in?"
"I've already let you in way more than most people," she answered honestly.
"But are you ever gonna let me all the way in?"
Kelly wrapped her arms tighter around the country singer's midriff, "I don't know. Maybe? Is that ok?"
Carrie allowed the Texan to hold her as close as she wanted. "It's fine," she assured her.
"I'm sorry," Kelly sniffed.
"No, no, no," Carrie said quickly. "Don't cry. Please don't cry."
"I can't help it," she replied, trying to brush away the tears. "I cry for everything."
"Come here," Carrie said soothingly. She helped her scoot up so that they were actually hugging each other. She pressed her cheek against Kelly's as she hugged her tightly, "I swear that it's ok. When you're ready, I'll be waiting, and until then, I'll be right here."
