"Sorry," Kelly quickly apologized as she bumped into Carrie, walking out of the bathroom.
"Sorry," Carrie replied just as quickly, not quite meeting her eye. "So, um, think you're ready for your history test?"
"History? Oh, um, yea...yea," she nodded, backing away. She tripped over a shoe, falling backwards on to the floor.
Carrie covered her mouth as a loud laugh escaped.
"Shut up," Kelly laughed, taking the hand that Carrie offered to help her off. She felt herself relax at the break in tension.
"We're good?"
"Not if you keep laughing at me," Kelly teased, hitting her arm playfully.
Carrie smiled, watching as she walked away, gathering her things for school, "It's not my fault you're a clutz."
"Well if you would pick up your shoes."
"Baby, I don't wear Chucks," Carrie bent down, picking up the shoe in question.
Kelly glared at the shoe as if ready to tell it off for betraying her.
"Clutz," Carrie said with finality.
"Clutz that's an amazing kisser."
"Who in the world told you that?"
"That would've been you."
"Did not," Carrie tossed her shoe at her.
"Did too," Kelly laughed, catching it and slipping it on along with the other one. "I think 'you're a natural' is the phrase you used."
"You're so full of it," Carrie rolled her eyes.
Kelly grinned, "So, what's the chances of me going fix me something to eat real quick and not getting thrown in the slammer?"
Carrie eyed her thoughtfully, "Can you wait five minutes so I can change and go with you?"
"To jail?" Kelly questioned. "I don't know...first you're all kissing me and stuff and now you wanna be in prison with me when we all know what happens there. I think this might be affecting our friendship a little."
"Shut up," Carrie's cheeks turned pink. "Now, I'm going change. Can you sit still for five minutes and not get into any trouble?"
"Am I supposed to lie?"
"Can you just stay up here for five minutes and not wonder downstairs?" Carrie smiled.
"I think I can manage that," Kelly nodded.

"She's pretty good."
Kelly looked up from her homework as Ashley sat beside her. She turned to the field where Carrie had just thrown a girl out, "Yea, she is."
"I heard you went to Stacey's party."
"Yea, last weekend."
"How was it?"
"Complete crap...well, almost, I did get to talk to Matt."
"Then why'd you go?"
"Carrie wanted to see what it was like, and asked if I would go with her. She's still not quite over the shy thing yet."
Ashley nodded.
"I didn't record the song with her," Kelly informed, going back to a math problem in her notebook. "I wouldn't do that to you, Ash."
"Thank you."
Kelly sighed.
"I'm sorry," Ashley finally admitted. "I shouldn't have jumped your case like that."
"Why did you?"
"I guess I was a little jealous."
"Of what?" Kelly asked curiously.
"The fact that Carrie had heard the song before I did."
Kelly wanted to point out the fact that Ashley had gotten upset before she had even mentioned Carrie, but she wasn't in the mood to have the sex talk again.
"Have you sung any other songs to her?"
"Just a couple lines of one you've already heard."
"So, um, we're good, right?"
"Yea," Kelly replied, smiling at Carrie as she jogged towards the dugout.
Carrie waved, smiling back.

"I still don't feel comfortable kissing him," Kelly admitted as she stood before Carrie, their heads tilted close while they stood on the side of the stage.
"Ok, here's the game plan...you go in there...say your lines...and just lay one on him."
"Care, I don't know..."
"Nope, too late. That's the plan. Ready? One, two, three, break!"
Kelly laughed, shaking her head as she walked away. She turned around quickly at the feeling of Carrie's hand slapping her butt.
Carrie raised her hands in innocence, blushing slightly, "Sorry. I kinda got caught up."
"Watch it All-star," Kelly warned with a smile.
Carrie grinned.

"Cut!" the play's director yelled. "Kelly!"
Carrie shook her head, trying not to laugh as she went over a song with the chorus of girls.

"So," Kelly explained. "The way I figure, I'll make more money waitressing than I did at the zoo."
"You quit your job at the zoo?" Jessica asked as they restocked the candy in the theater.
"Not till after I got the job as a waitress, don't worry. Totally better than smelling monkey crap all day anyway."
Jessica shrugged, "If you say so."
"So, yea, I'll make money waiting tables. Then when I turn eighteen, I can start working at the comedy bar--"
"The comedy bar?"
"Yea, I went apply there, turns out you have to be old enough to get in in order to work there," Kelly replied. "Go figure."
Jessica shook her head, laughing.
"But yea, they told me to come back as soon as I turned eighteen, and I know they make kick ass tips over there, so hopefully I may be able to get a car by the time I graduate."
"Sounds like a plan," she nodded.
"You sound skeptical."
"I have learned to never doubt you," Jessica replied honestly. "But I know being a waitress is way harder than you think."
"You just gotta smile and be polite. What's so hard about that?"
"And when people are completely rude to you?"
"I've learned to control my temper if you haven't noticed."
"What about the little incident of you telling off your teacher a few weeks back?"
"Who told you that?"
"Ashley."
Kelly shook her head, "Girl talks too much."
"And..."
"It was just a bad day."
"And what happens when you have a bad day and a customer is giving you hell? You can't just go off on them."
"I haven't gone off on anybody while working here, have I?"
"Nope," Jessica agreed. "You haven't."
Kelly nodded with a smile.
"So what's this about you and Ashley getting in a fight?"
"Ugh," she rolled her eyes. "That was so last week."
"You are such a high schooler," Jessica teased.

"How's your breakfast dear?" Carole asked.
"It's good, Mom," Carrie replied with a smile as she finished up. "So are you coming to the game today?"
"Game?"
"Yea, we have a softball game today. I told you last week, remember? It's the first game I'm gonna start in."
"Oh, hunny, I don't know..." Carole frowned. "I have a lot to do today."
"Mom," she fussed. "Come on, you haven't watched me play in a long time."
"I'm sorry, Carrie, I just don't think I'll be able to make it."
"Fine, whatever," Carrie replied, placing her dishes in the sink. "At least Dad and Kelly will be there to cheer for me."
"Yes, well, your Dad's not the one having to support this family, now is he?"
Carrie narrowed her eyes, "You're so full of shit, Mom."
"Excuse me?" Carole reached out, grabbing her daughter's arm. "What did you just say?"
"Y-you heard me," Carrie replied, nowhere near as confident as before.
"Since when do you talk like that?" Carole questioned. "I know...it's that girl isn't it?"
"What girl?"
"That little charity case you insist on bringing over here. You were never like this before you started hanging out with her."
Carrie twisted out of her grip, shaking her head, "Never mind. I don't even want you at my game."
"Carrie--" Carole protested.
"Save it, Mom," she replied, grabbing her bags. "I've got to go pick up Kelly. At least my charity case supports me, right?"
++++++++++++
"Woo! Ready for the big game?" Kelly grinned as she hurried about her room, gathering her books.
"Yea," Carrie mumbled.
Kelly stopped what she was doing and turned to her, frowning at the look on her face. "Come on," she opened her arms.
Carrie walked to her, allowing the Texan to pull her into a hug.
"Now what's wrong?" Kelly asked, resting her chin on the other girl's shoulder.
"I kinda got into it with my mom this morning," she admitted.
"You wanna talk about it?" Kelly asked, pulling back to be able to look at her.
Carrie studied her carefully before shaking her head. She took Kelly's face in her hands, tilting her head downward to be able to kiss her forehead.
"What was that for?" she asked curiously.
"You're just...you're really good at being a friend, you know that?"
Kelly laughed, "Ok?"
Carrie smiled, "Come on, if I'm late for school, I won't be able to start."
"Hey, I'm totally ready on time for once," Kelly pointed out. "I'm so not missing you play today."
"So you're gonna be there?" Carrie questioned as they walked out the apartment.
"Of course. I mean, I had to change my schedule around a bit, but no big. I wouldn't miss this, especially not your first game.
Carrie shook her head smiling, as she wrapped an arm around her shoulders.
