"So, what interview do you have this morning?" Kate asked, laying back on the bed, looking up at the ceiling as Kelly changed into the clothes that Ashley had brought over.
"Um..." Kelly's brow furrowed a she slipped on her shoes. "Ryan? Maybe?"
"Is he a good interviewer?"
"Yea, I think so, but I mean, that may just be because I know him from Idol. First season and all, everybody kinda made a special bond, you know?"
"Yea, I bet."
Kelly smiled as she walked to the bed, tugging on Kate's feet, pulling her to the edge.
Kate giggled as she looked up at her.
"Have you ever done a radio interview before?"
She shook her head.
"Have you ever seen one?"
"Nope."
"Do you want to?"
Kate's eyes widened, "You'd let me come?"
Kelly shrugged, "I figure since you are gonna be a kick ass rockstar some day you should probably learn a thing or two about what all goes into it."
"Can I invite Jill?"
"Well duh," Kelly laughed. "It would kind of be hard for JillandKate to become kick ass without Jill."
Kate smiled as Kelly took her hands, pulling her up so that she was sitting, "Has anybody ever told you how genuinely sweet of a person you are?"
"Has anybody ever told you how insanely pretty you are?' she countered.
Kate blushed.
Kelly smiled, triumphantly.
"That's not fair," Kate pointed out.
"Why not?"
"You suck at taking compliments just as much as me, but you just avoid them all together instead of getting flustered."
"Flustered?" Kelly raised an eyebrow. "I make you flustered?"
Kate blushed a deeper red, "You know what I mean."
"No...care to elaborate?" she smiled.
"You just...you know what to say to get to me."
"To get to you?"
"Yea," she nodded.
"Get to you how?"
Kate could feel her ears burning.
"You're blushing."
"I know."
"So..." Kelly masked her nerves with a smirk as she straddled the taller girl's lap. "This is you getting flustered?"
Kate swallowed hard, "N-no."
"No?" Kelly leaned to her.
"Maybe."
"I would love to know what's going on in your head right now," Kelly whispered, her breath cool against the blonde's face.
"Not much," Kate admitted, her eyes glued to Kelly's lips. "I think it stopped working."
Kelly smiled, leaning closer and placing a light kiss on her cheek before bringing her lips to her ear, "Can I have a turn asking questions?"
Kate nodded, taking a deep breath, trying to steady herself.
"When you say that you have been thinking about kissing girls, is it just girls in general...or do you have a certain girl in mind?"
"I-I..."
Kelly pressed her lips softly against the back edge of her jaw.
"I, um, I..." Kate struggled.
Kelly groaned as the door to the bedroom opened. She felt Kate stiffen. "It's ok," she whispered, pulling back a little.
"It's time to go," Ashley explained from behind her.
"Alright," Kelly replied as Kate buried her face in her shoulder. She imagined the backup singer's face must've been crimson.
"Are you ready?"
"Could you give us a minute, Ash?" she asked, struggling to keep the agitation from her voice.
"You don't want to be late," Ashley replied.
"Ash..." she all but growled.
"I'm going, I'm going," Ashley backed out of the room, closing the door.
Kelly sighed, running a hand through Kate's hair, "Are you ok?"
Kate nodded against her shoulder.
"I'm sorry about that."
"It's ok," she replied softly.
"And I...I'm sorry if I was out of line before--I kinda got carried away."
"No, you're ok," Kate assured, bringing a hand up to her neck, her fingers smoothing over her skin before she wrapped her arm around her, hugging her tightly.
Kelly smiled, rubbing her back, "We should probably get going before Ashley blows a fuse."
"I wouldn't mind staying like this longer," Kate confessed, turning so that her cheek was resting against her shoulder.
"Me either," Kelly replied, turning to kiss her forehead. "But I can't be late...especially not for Ryan."
"I know...I was just saying..."
"I know," Kelly kissed her forehead one more time before pulling back. "Ready to go?"
"Yea," she smiled.
Kelly climbed off the bed before offering Kate a hand down.
Her smile grew.
"What?"
"You look so cute with pig tails," she reached up, tugging on her hair playfully.
Kelly laughed softly, grabbing the hat off of Kate's dresser as they walked out the room, "I'm stealing this."
"Go ahead. Think of it as payment for the guitar lessons," Kate adjusted it for her. "It looks better on you, anyway."
"I was joking about stealing it," Kelly rolled her eyes, moving to take it off.
"No, wear it," Kate held her hand tightly, stopping her. "It really does look good on you."
Kelly smiled, "Alright. But I'm not stealing it. I'm giving it back after."
"Deal," Kate nodded as they walked into the living room.
"Finally..." Ashley stood. "Ready?"
"Yep," Kelly nodded, turning to Jill who was sitting on the sofa. "You want to come?"
"To the interview?" Jill asked
"Yea, I'll show y'all around the station and stuff."
"Yea, definitely," she stood, grabbing her keys.
"Cute hat," Ashley noted, tapping it as she passed her best friend.
"Told you so," Kate grinned.
"Yea, yea," Kelly chuckled, following them out of the apartment.
++++++++
Kate held onto Kelly's hand tightly with both of her own as the Texan showed them around the building.
"The main thing to remember is it's always important to be nice to the dj's, no matter how of an ass they are just because it's polite and I raised y'all right, but it's even more important to be nice to the program directors because they're actually the ones that say which songs get played and how many times."
"I thought that was the dj's job?" Jill questioned.
Kelly shook her head, "No, they pretty much just talk. It's the program director, and they are pretty much told what to play by the record company."
"Why do they listen?" Kate asked.
"The label will give them free stuff like concert tickets, backstage passes, that sort of thing."
"But I thought concerts and stuff were through management?"
"Yea, but the label gets tickets to give out for this sort of thing."
"Is nothing sacred anymore?"
Kelly's eyebrows raised.
"I just mean, what happened to people playing songs just because the songs were good, not because they were bribed to play them?"
"Unfortunately, that was pretty much never the case to begin with."
Kate frowned.
"Hey, come on, don't let that bum you out," Kelly squeezed her hands. "There is still good music on the radio. It's just up to the artist to make the songs great because the label will push it whether it's good or not."
"What makes the label decide which songs they're going to support and which they aren't?" Jill asked.
"I'm still trying to figure that one out," Kelly laughed, stopping before a door. She knocked on the glass, grinning when Ryan turned to her.
"Hey," he greeted, opening the door for them. "You're right on time."
"Right on," she smiled, as he hugged her. "How are you? Have you taken a break yet?"
"Not since Idol started...five years ago," Ryan laughed. "But you know how that is."
"Definitely," she nodded.
"So, who's the new girls? New management?" he asked, looking at Jill and Kate.
"Oh, no, these are my backup singers--Jill and Kate," Kelly explained. "They've never seen a radio interview, so I invited them to come along. That's ok, right?"
"Yea, of course," Ryan shook Jill's hand before turning to Kate who was still clinging to Kelly's hand with both of her own.
"She gets excited real easy," Kelly laughed.
"This is so cool," Kate breathed, looking around the studio. "Who's that?"
Kelly looked at the guy with his eyes locked on a lap top, "The producer, right?"
"Yea," Ryan agreed. "He's the guy that makes sure everything goes smoothly. He does the transitions between all the songs and all the sound affects like applause to stroke our egos a little bit...he keeps the show moving."
Kate nodded.
"So you don't have your management here today?" Ryan asked curiously.
"Nope, not today," Kelly shook her head.
"How are things going with them?"
"Fine," she shrugged. "Why?"
The producer motioned to Ryan.
"We've got to get settled," Ryan squeezed her shoulder.
"Ok," Kelly nodded, turning to Jill and Kate. "Y'all just go stand with Ashley, ok?"
They both nodded, Kate finally letting go of her hand as they walked to where Ashley was leaning against one of the walls.
"And we're back..." Ryan began as the music faded.

"I'm so gonna take you mudding one day," Kelly nodded, laughing softly as she pushed the microphone away after the interview.
"You know, I just don't think I would enjoy that," Ryan shook his head.
"You are such a girl," she teased.
He laughed, "Well, one of us has to be."
"Touche," Kelly nodded, smiling as she stood.
Ryan looked at her, thinking for a moment.
"What?"
"You still don't watch tv do you?"
"No, not really," she shook her head. "Why?"
"I need to talk to you about something..." he motioned to the door.
Kelly nodded following him out of the studio. She held a hand up, signaling for the other three to stay.
Kate watched through the window as Ryan and Kelly talked on the other side of the door, "What do you think's going on?"
"I'm not sure," Ashley replied, noticing Kelly tensing.
"Is she ok?"
"Doesn't look like it," she put a hand on Kate's arm, halting her as she started to move towards the door.
"Let them talk."
"He's upsetting her."
"He's probably just informing her."
"Of what?"
"Ryan does the E news thing. He knows all the gossip and shit. He probably heard something that he thought she should know."
"Does he know?"
"Know what?"
Kate looked at her pointedly.
"Oh...no, he doesn't know," Ashley shook her head, watching as Ryan patted Kelly's shoulder before walking back into the studio, taking his seat. Kelly pulled out her cell phone, her hand moving quickly as she spoke.
"Come on," Ashley gave Kate a gentle nudge as Kelly motioned to them, hanging up her phone.
"Everything ok?" Jill asked as they walked out of the studio.
"We've gotta go," Kelly frowned, shoving her hands into her pockets. "Do you guys mind if we drop y'all off at my place? It's closer, and I have to go somewhere to take care of something real quick."
"Yea, that's fine," Jill replied looking at Kate who nodded in agreement.
"Thanks."
"Let's get going then," Ashley turned, leading the way out of the building.
Kelly sensed Kate lagging behind to walk with her. She felt her place her hand lightly on the inside of her arm. "I'm ok."
"You sure?"
"Yea," she nodded, her hand slipping out of her pocket as Kate's slid down her arm. She gave her hand a gentle squeeze before letting it go to hold the door open for her, giving her a reassuring smile, "No worries, remember?"
"It's not always a bad thing to worry, you know," Kate commented, keeping her voice light.
Kelly forced herself to hold the smile, giving a soft laugh.
"I can see right through that, remember?"
She swallowed hard, "Doesn't mean everybody else can."
"I don't see how, your eyes are ridiculously heart breaking when you're upset."
Kelly sighed as they reached the range rover where Ashley and Jill were already seated inside, waiting.
"I'd hug you right now, but I don't want to blow your whole tough girl cover," Kate smirked.
Kelly couldn't help but laugh, "How about you save the hug for when I get back, later, ok? I'll probably need it more then anyway."
"Deal," Kate nodded as Kelly opened the door for her.
++++++++
"Where's Jeff?" Kelly asked, her eyes blazing as she walked into the front office of the small building her management used for their L.A. office.
The secretary looked around nervously, "He's in a meeting right now..."
"I just called him. I told him I was coming, so where is he?"
She swallowed hard, "H-his office."
"Thank you," Kelly gave a short nod before walking past the desk to the back offices. She didn't even bother to knock as she walked into the room. "Hey Jeff...nice meeting..."
"Kelly," Jeff stood, quickly shutting off the television.
"Don't turn it off on my account," Kelly sat down in the chair across from his desk. "I mean, obviously you're a very busy person so you have to catch up on your shows any chance you get, right?"
"Kelly, look, I don't understand why you're so upset," Jeff noted. "I was just backing you up."
"Backing me...backing me up? How is you telling the media that Clive told me to 'shut up and sing' backing me up when all I want is for this bull shit surrounding the record to quiet down? How the fuck is that backing me up?"
"I'm fighting for you."
"You're fighting for yourself. You want some little pop bimbo that's in the headlines every week. That's your mark of success. Well news flash, that is not and will not ever be mine."
"I was just trying to help."
"You're making it worse," Kelly argued, standing. "I don't...I don't understand how you don't see that."
"I won't say anything like that again," Jeff assured, noticing her calming down.
"I have a question for you," Kelly tapped his desk lightly with her fingers. "Were you the one that started this whole mess?"
"What do you mean?"
"Were you the one that opened your mouth about the record label having reservations about the album?"
"Kelly, look..."
"Jeff..." Kelly took a deep breath.
"I did it for you," he explained.
"For me," Kelly nodded sitting back down. "This should be good..."
Jeff froze.
"What's wrong?"
"Nothing, just something your brother said to me once."
"What did he say?"
"That it's not when you're cursing me out that I should be worried...it's when you get quiet."
"He knows me well..."
"Look, Kelly, I did it for you. You fought hard for this record. People needed to hear that. Everybody loves that kind of story. The whole underdog thing. It's the type of shit people in this country eat up."
"I have fought hard for every record," Kelly replied. "I didn't need any type of story for those to sell. They sold because the albums spoke for themselves, but this album is never going to get that chance thanks in large part to you."
"I only did what I thought was best."
"I know. It's just unfortunate that your idea of what's best and my idea of what's best are two completely different things."
"Look, I don't know what you want me to say...I've fought hard for this album. I've done everything I could for it. I won't apologize for that."
Kelly looked down at her lap, thinking for a moment before looking back up at him, "How did you get my album pushed up?"
"Huh?"
"The album...how did you get the record label to push it up to June?"
"I just had a talk with them."
"And what did you say?"
"KC..."
"What did you say?" Kelly asked, her voice growing thin.
"I was tough with them, that's all."
"Tell me what you said."
"I told them...I told them that if they didn't stop fighting the album and if they didn't push it up to a proper release date before the tour, that you would come out."
Kelly's jaw twitched as she nodded.
"Kelly?"
She stood up slowly, taking a deep breath.
"Look, it was the only thing I had left...I..." Jeff watched her nervously as her eyes grew cold. "Say something, kiddo."
"You're fired," she said simply before turning and walking out of the office, closing the door behind her before walking out of the building to the parking lot where Ashley was waiting for her in the vehicle.
"Feel better?" Ashley asked as she climbed in.
Kelly nodded, buckling her seat belt.
"Hey," Ashley reached over, squeezing her shoulder when she noticed the tears in her eyes.
"I don't have a manager anymore..."
"It's ok," Ashley assured, rubbing the back of her neck, knowing that would help to soothe her. "You're gonna be ok. You have a lot of people that love you and that will work with you to help you figure this out, ok?"
She nodded, biting her lip as more tears formed.
"Let's get you back to the apartment," Ashley nodded, putting the car in reverse and pulling out of the parking lot.
