“Kristy” Jordan said to her as he shook her shoulder
“What” she almost shouted as she jumped up out of the seat.
“We are here” he said giving her a strange look.
“Oh right” she said nervously as she gathered up her things.
Chad was nice enough to give them a ride to Jordan’s house. Kristy gestured out the window “Why does it always have to rain when I come here” she said as the wind blew.
“Its not raining yet” Jordan said rolling down the window
“Yeah but it looks like it could pour any minute” Chad said looking through the windshield.
He dropped them off and gave Kristy strict orders to accompany Jordan to the studio on Monday. She laughed at him as he drove away.
“So you want our traditional meal” he said wagging his cell at her.
She laughed and shrugged “yeah sounds good to me”
They went out to the living room and put in a movie as they sat, ate and drank. She was pulling off the top of her second beer when he punched her in the arm. “I thought you didn’t drink beer”
“Ow” she said pulling away from him “I don’t but tonight I will take what I can get” she laughed and turned the bottle up killing about half of it.
“Ok, Ok” he said taking it away from her “You don’t need to prove anything to me” he pressed a piece of pizza at her “and you need to eat something after I took all the trouble to cook it for you” he said with a laugh as he finished her beer.
She was on her sixth beer and she waved the bottle drunkly in the air. “He doesn’t know what he is fucking missing” she said loudly and as if he had asked.
“Your so right” Jordan agreed. He wasn’t sure where that outburst had come from but he knew the tears weren’t far away. He had to laugh at how stumbling drunk she was. He couldn’t blame her. She had been through a lot in the past twenty four hours.
“I think its time we went to bed” he said lightly as he took the half empty bottle out of her hand.
He was helping her up the stairs to her room when she fell down.
“She was so pretty” she sobbed as she rested her head on her arms
“No she wasn’t” Jordan said sitting beside her.
“You didn’t see her” Kristy almost pleaded.
“I didn’t need too” Jordan said pulling her head to his chest. He rubbed her hair as she cried. He just rocked her silently and fought back his own emotion. When she had finished sobbing he helped her up and carried her to the guest bedroom.
He laid her on the bed and sat down in the floor in front of her.
“I know what it was,” she said turning her tear streaming face toward him “I wasn’t good enough” she swiped at her face “I was never enough for him and this just proves it” she sobbed.
“No, No” Jordan said wiping a tear from her eye “You were just too much for him” he smiled at her.
They sat in silence for a moment.
“He said they were just friends but I knew better” she said gripping the pillow “I could see it” She looked at him and he wondered if she was talking about them rather than her husband.
He brushed her hair out of her face “Sometimes everyone can see what you can’t” he whispered to her. She looked at him and he could see the longing in her eyes. Could feel her need. He wanted her so much but couldn’t take advantage of her now.
He stood “Its late I should let you get some rest” he said awkwardly
“Ok” she said and turned her head.
He stood there looking at her and the longing creeped up again. He reached out to touch her but stopped short. He held his shaking hand out for a moment longer and then defeated dropped it by his side. He turned and left the room.
When she heard the door close she sighed and got up. She knew what she wanted and it wasn’t another beer she thought absently as her head ached. She walked over to the bathroom. She stumbled on her way and almost fell over the dresser. She knocked a picture frame over and had to struggle to keep it from smashing to the floor. She turned it over and her heart shattered. It was a picture of him, his wife and their little boy. Jordan was holding him up in the air and they were all laughing. She couldn’t do this, she shouldn’t be here. What made her any different than that bitch the she had saw Michael with. This wasn’t right. She heard an knock at her door and turned around. She dropped the picture on the bed as she went over to it. When she opened it Jordan stood there with a shocked look on his face.
“Listen Kristy, I don’t know much about you” he ran his hands through his hair “I mean I don’t know what you wanted to be when you grew up or where you went to school” he laughed softly “I don’t know what your favorite food is or even your middle name” he looked back up at her “But all I know is the time we have spent together has been the best time in my life” he held his hand up before she could speak “I don’t know what I would do with out you”
She stood in complete shock. She couldn’t believe this. Her mind went back to the picture she had just seen and she had to push back her own wants and needs.
“Jordan I work for you so all I need to know is when the next show is and all you need to worry about me is if I can sell it out or not” she closed the door as his face fell.
She pushed her back against the door and cried into her hands like she had never cried before.
