Kisaki paced up and down the emergancy room, eyes lost and unfocused, barely seeing the shiney, white, tile passing swiftly beneath his feet. Restless hands worried the hem of the jacket he'd thrown on just before the ambulance had arrived. Every thought in his head screamed guilt over how he might have aided in killing his friend and lover.
Kirito marched through the automatic doors, Bou, Tsukasa and Hakuei at his heels. They easily spotted their red-headed friend pacing up and down the waiting room, in such an agitated state none of them had ever seen before. Kirito caught up with the other man, placing a hand on his shoulder.
"Kisaki?"
The red-head nearly jumped out of his skin. whirling around, eyes wide. "Kirito? Have you heard anything? Is he going to-"
"No, we don't know anything." He eyed his friend, worried. "We just got here." Kisaki nodded his head absently and began to pace again, but Kirito grabbed his shoulders, stopping him. "Kisaki? Listen to me, calm down for a minute and tell me what happened."
Kisaki's face was flushed as he fought for words until he noticed Tsukasa walking towards them and his eyes widdened.
"Oh, god, Tsukasa, I'm so sorry," he whispered, his normally calm, collected demeanor crumbling. "I never should have... I didn't....I-"The younger man took a step forward, embracing him tightly.
"It's ok, he's going to be alright." Tsukasa whispered, though his voice grew more and more unsure with each sylable. "He's made it this far, I'm sure..."
"Kisaki!"
The older man stiffened in his friend's arms, then slowly turned around, cringing visibly as his rumpled, sleep-deprived, infuriated older brother glared daggers at him from across the room. Mana pointed a finger towards the unoccupied office beside him. "In here, now!"
A flash of fear crossed the generally unruffled man's face as he did as he was told, trotting hastily towards the room and ducking inside. Mana followed, slamming the door behind them.
"What are you doing here?" Kisaki asked, clearing his throat nervously.
"As soon as he was admitted, the emergancy room doctor called me." the older man's dark eyes narrowed dangerously. "What happened Kisaki? What is Tora doing back in my hospital, his stitches torn open and bleeding form the head??"
Kisaki looked away. "Well, you see..."
"Two things struck me as odd," the older one interupted. "First, there's dried blood on Tora's neck and shoulder, under his shirt, indicating that he was not wearing one when he first started to bleed. Second of all," he leaned close to the shorter man, dropping his voice so low Kisaki had to strain to hear him, "Tora practically reaked of sex. Tell me you two were not doing what I think you where doing..."
Kisaki closed his eyes and nodded his head.
Mana's hand flew out, slapping the much younger man across his already flushed face. "Idiot! What were you thinking?" He took a menacing step towards the othe man. "What possibly could have crossed your mind indicating that that was ok to do with someone asfragile, as unwell, as him?"
Kisaki backed up several steps, his eyes watering from the sting agross his cheek.
"Tora just had brain surgury a week ago, for chists sake! He was only released from the hospital yesterday!" Mana swirved away at the last minute, throwing his hands up in the air. "I don't undersatnd. I thought you were more responsible than this."
Kisaki looked down at his bare hands, a small blood stain still unwashed on his palm. "Please.. just tell me he's not going to die."
Mana leaned over the desk, plams flat, back rounded, then sighed heavily. "No, he's not going to die, at least, not tonight anyway." He dropped his head between his shoulders, messy, dark hair coming loose from it's braid and spilling over one shoulder. "They were able to close the would with more stitches and staples before he bled out completly. But he is very weak, ni- chan. He lost alot of blood before he arrived. He's developed an infection, though not a serious one yet, but just the same, I don't like it."
"I'm sorry." Kisaki whispered, whiping the moisture from his eyes. "I just... I didn't expect things to go so far so quickly and...."
Mana sighed loudly. "It's not all your fault. He should have known better as well, and I should have made sure he was healing properly before releasing him." He turned his head towards his brother, eyes narrowed curiously. "Besides, I thought you were straight?"
Kirito watched as the two men emerged from the room, dark eyes tracking them as Man's and Kisaki made their way over to stand before them.
"Is he going to be ok?" Tsukasa asked, his voice cracking slightly. "Is he going to..." his voice caught in his throat and Hakuei squeezed his hand reassuringly.
"He's surviving for now." Mana said, his face back to it's normal, expressionless self. "He's stable but very weak, and will be for quite some time." he folded his arms across his chest. "His immune system has weakened far more than we initially realized, and this has allowed an infection to set in. His blood pressure has dropped as well, though not yet enough to grow too concerned about just yet." He frowned, shooting a narrow glance at his brother beside him. "I need him to stay here for a couple of days, try to get the infection at least under control, but when he does go home, I want no more strenuous activities for awhile, at least until he's healed from the surgury."
Kisaki blushed furiously, another thing his friends had never seen before, and nodded his head meekly.
"Anyway, barring any more complications, I'll release him in two days." He narrowed his eyes at the rest of them. "But I'm here by instructing all of you, as his friends, to watch over him closely. If he shows any signs of fever, undue weakness or fatigue, do not hesitate to bring him back in," his face siftened slightly, "or at least call me and I'll come over." he sighed and laid a hand on his brother's shoulder. "It's a miricale he's stayed alive this long, I'm sure you all want to make sure that doesn't change."
"Can we see him?" Kisaki asked, his voice low.
Mana pursed his lips, then nodded his head. "He's in room 105, just down the hall." He inclined his head, then walked off, rubbing his head wearily.
Bou pushed past the others to stand before Kisaki. "What did Mana-sam mean by 'strenuous activities?" Kisaki blushed again and Bou's eyes widdened. "You mean... Well, that's certianly a new developement." He grinned evily. "Tell me something, does he-"
"Bou!" Kirito hissed. "Leave him alone." the older man rolled his eyes. "Jeezus, sometimes you're as bad as Rose."
Hakuei raised an eyebrow and leaned towards Tsukasa's ear. "Did you know about this?"
The shorter man sighd and turned his head, placing a gentle kiss on Hakuei's lips. "I just found out about their budding romance today," he grinned easily, "but if you mean did I know that they had slept together.. well, I kind of helped that along, I'm afraid."
"So thats how he got the... uh..." Kisaki glanced at Bou wearily, his voice trailing off.
"The what?" the blonde inquired, feining innocence. "What did Tora have that surprised you?"
Kisaki grinned, then suddenly yawned, a hand shooting up to cover his mouth. Kirito tapped his arm to get his attention.
"Did you ride over in the ambulance?" the redhead nodded. "Go tell your lover goodnight and I'll drive you home." Kisaki looked uncertain, but Kirito squeezed his arm gently. "There's nothing you can do for him so you might as well get some sleep. Mana's here and will make sure nothing happenes to him. Besides, you can come back in the morning, bright and early, if you want to." The other man seemed to think apon this, then nodded, loping off in the direction of Tora's newest room.
He stared down at the pale, fragile seeming figure laying on the bed, tubes coming out of his nose, an I.V. drip hooked up to one arm. He leaned down, placing a soft kiss on Tora's forehead.
"I'm sorry." he whispered.
Tora's heavy eyes fluttered open and he smiled."Why are you sorry?" he managed, his voice sounding weak.
"I shouldn't have.. let things get so far.." Kisaki looked away. "I should have known better."
Tora's eyes started to shut, but he forced them open. "No one is to blame. I ... was not feeling my best and perhaps I should have said something, but..." he smiled again. "Bad timing perhaps.." his voice dropped to a whisper, though he seemed not to notice as his dark, thick lashes slowly lowered onto his pale, hollowed cheeks. "but ..I do not regret...what we did..."
Kisaki smiled sadly, his hand cupping hte othr man's face, then lened down to kiss him once more.
"Neither do I."
Hakuei glanced at the man behind the wheel out of the corner of his eye.
"So.. you and Tora... you guys are through?"
Tsukasa nodded as he carefully merged with the light, late night traffic onto the highway.
"When exactly did this happen?" the older man asked, his brow furrowing in confusin. "One minute, you say you love him, then suddenly you admit to helping orchestrate an event that resulted in your roomate bedding him!"
"Well..." Tsukasa paused, choosing his words carefully. "I love Tora, and I always will. Nothing will ever change that. But... I guess in alot of ways our relationship has been like Toshiya and Miyavi's. We were both clinging to an idea, something that we thought we wanted because.. because we always had, and new nothing else, nothing better. Perhaps, if given other cirmumstances ... another life..." He sighed and shook his head. "It has taken me this long, but I see it so clearly now. It was time to move on, time to move beyond the past." He shot the other man a quick, sly smile. "Plus, I thought it absolutly adorable that they both had a crush on each other, but were too afraid to admit anything!"
"I must say," Hakuei murmered, leaned over to kiss his lover on the cheek. "my respect for you has grown. That was a very big thing of you to do; giving up your first love. I'm proud of you."
Tsukasa blushed sightly. "If you remember, my dear, you were just as willing to give me up to Tora if it ment I would be happy."
"I'm just glad I didn't have to, in the end." Hakuei grinned. "This makes what I'm about to ask you much easier."
Tsukasa eyed him wearily out of the corner of his eye. "What?"
Hakuei took Tsukasa's hand closest to him, not occupied by the steering wheel, squeezing it gently. "What would you say if... if I found a small apartment, close to campus somewhere since I'm wanting to return to school anyway.. and mayebe you could, possibly, like there too."
"What did you..." Tsukasa whipped his head around, half of his body turning in the seat. "Are you serious??"
Hakuei grabbed frantically for the steering wheel, swirving them back onto the road.
"Of course I'm serious. I want you to live with me." he bit the inside of his cheek. "What do you say?"
Tsukasa was silent for several long moments as he guided the car into the bar's nearly packed parkinglot. He found a space near the back, then sat there, staring at the wheel. Suddenly, a grin krept across his face. He killed the engine, unbuckled his seatbelt and grabbed the man sitting beside him, smashing their faces together in a deep, passionate kiss. After an intense, breathless minute, he pulled back slightly, his lips brushing Hakuei's ear.
"Yes."
