"Fingertips on my face
The glances I can retrace
In my mind.
The holding onto me so I feel it
And fall into it.
Chase the memories away."

"What are you thinking about?" Carrie asked softly, her lips grazing Kelly's ear as they remained hugging each other.
"Graham," Kelly whispered hoarsely.
"What about him?" she asked, not sure what else she could do to get the other singer's mind off of the guy, knowing that it was wearing the poor girl down immensely.
"He never holds me like this," Kelly admitted.
"Like what?" Carrie questioned, afraid that she was doing something wrong.
"I don't know, like protectively? Or, comfortingly?" she offered. "Like, you aren't just putting you're arms around me, but are actually holding me."
"Is that ok?" Carrie asked, starting to pull away. "Cause, I mean, I can stop if you want."
"No, no, no, please don't let go," Kelly replied, her voice breaking slightly.
Carrie felt her heart melt as she held her tightly again, finding that she loved the way the soft skin of Kelly's cheek felt pressed against her own. It was so different than the scratchiness of a guy's, yet she found herself smiling at the sensation of it.
"Maybe you should--"
"Can we talk about something else?" Kelly asked softly. "I'm so tired of thinking about him and talking about him, and I just wanna forget about him."
"Alright," Carrie agreed. "So Ace is running around naked, now."
"Nekked?"
Carrie laughed as the Texan's accent breezed past her ear, "Nekked?"
"Shut up," Kelly pouted.
"Sorry," Carrie giggled. "It's cute."
"Ugh."
Carrie smiled, knowing Kelly rolled her eyes as she said this, even though she couldn't see her face.
"Just get on with your story."
"Anyway, so yea, you know, I gave thought to what you said and decided to do the no clothes thing. You were right, as soon as I took them off, he couldn't get away from me fast enough, scared that I was gonna change my mind and put them back on."
"See," Kelly laughed. "Dogs are supposed to be free. It's how God intended."
"He also intended for us to be that way," Carrie pointed out.
"And trust me, if I had my way, I'd be nekked all the time."
"You whore," Carrie teased, poking her side, making her giggle.
"It's not about being a whore. It's just about being free. I mean, it's like the whole commando thing...why have something there that doesn't have to be?"
"You go commando?" she asked, shocked.
Kelly laughed, "Depending on what I'm wearing and what the occasion is, the majority of the time, yes. Especially when I'm performing."
"What about when you were on Idol?" Carrie asked, pulling back a little to be able to look at her.
"Every time," she nodded with a grin.
"So, when you said you didn't want to flash the world, you really meant it."
"You watched me on Idol?" Kelly asked curiously.
"Yea, I kinda used it as a studying tool," Carrie admitted. "I have to say, I was jealous of how much freedom y'all had that first season."
"Not so much freedom, more of we all thought it was this little podunk show that wouldn't amount to anything, so why should we take it seriously and not have fun?"
"I think that's what caught everybody's attention."
"Yea?"
"Yea," Carrie nodded, very much aware of the way Kelly's hand was gently resting on her stomach as the Texan looked down at her. "I mean, you go back to that season, and you can just see how real y'all all were. And I love the fact that all of y'all probably had a rough past, but you didn't turn it into some sob fest, you know? That's one thing I don't like about the show now. It's like if you don't have some heartbreaking story, you don't have a chance. And everybody's trying so hard to define themselves and fit into whatever image they think they belong in, that it all becomes so contrived."
Kelly smiled at her with something that Carrie didn't recognize radiating in her eyes as she started to trace one of her fingers around Kelly's hand.
"What?" Carrie asked, self-consciously.
"I like you," Kelly nodded.
"And you didn't before?"
"No, I did, but I just really like hearing your thoughts about things. You know, you would surprise a lot of people if you'd voice your opinion more, and I mean surprise them in a good way."
"You know, you're probably right."
"Then why don't you?"
Carrie shrugged, "Why does it matter? People will always have a certain opinion of me. So what? I know who I am, my family and my true friends know who I am, that's all that matters, right?"
Kelly smiled as she watched their hands slide together, not really holding each other for more than a couple of seconds as Carrie continued to lace them in various ways. "I wish that I could be like that," she admitted.
"What are you talking about?" Carrie asked. "You're Kelly Clarkson. You say what's on your mind, and you don't care about what anyone thinks."
"That's not true," she shook her head. "You have no idea how hard I try to make it seem like I don't care. At times, I swear I care too much about making sure people think I don't care."
"Wow," Carrie grinned. "Deep."
"Shut up," Kelly laughed, hitting the country singer's thumb with her own.
"Oh, you wanna fight?" Carrie asked, as they both sat up
"You know...I think I do," Kelly replied, holding out her hand.
Carrie hooked it with her right hand, "Ready?"
"1. 2. 3. 4. I declare a thumb war," Kelly counted off as both singers concentrated intently on the battle at hand.
Kelly bit down on her bottom lip as she managed to pin down Carrie's thumb, "1...2...3...4...5678910...I win!" she declared, raising her arms victoriously.
"Did not," Carrie pouted. "You so cheated," she poked the Texan's stomach to emphasize her point.
Kelly giggled, wrapping an arm around herself, "Did not. You're just mad cause I won."
Carrie's eyes lit up as Kelly made the subconscious defensive move and the giggle escaped.
Kelly held up a finger in warning, "Don't you dare."
"Too late!" Carrie exclaimed, launching at her.
Kelly was too slow, and she soon found herself pinned down, completely at the other singer's mercy as Carrie's fingers danced across her sides, causing Kelly to erupt in laughter.
"Stop!" Kelly fussed, her face bright red as struggled for breath.
"You know, I read once that laughing is very healthy for you," Carrie grinned, continuing to tickle her. "I'm just looking out for you."
"Please...please...ok...you win!"
"Say the magic words..."
"Carrie sucks!"
Carrie laughed, "Nope."
Kelly struggled to muster enough air to make her best puppy dog face as she batted her eyelashes, "Love you."
"Aw," Carrie smiled, kissing her forehead playfully as she finally stopped her assault. She let go of Kelly and collapsed on the side of her, both singers completely out of breath. Carrie felt the back of Kelly's hand brush against her own, and she linked their fingers together in a sign of peace. "So what are you thinking about?"
"Absolutely nothing," Kelly replied with a goofy grin.
"Good," Carrie laughed.
