Chapter 2

****** Part 2
Jade stood beside his father and the royal advisors on the landing roof of the castle with a smug expression on his face. Today was the day his bondmate would arrive. Jade flexed his wings up and into the sun, making him seem even more imposing.
The sight of a large group of people coming for the landing area made Jade smirk even more as the white of their wings glinted and he waited for his bondmate to land to give him a look at him or her for the first time.
One by one the royal White Wing heir's entourage landed and finally Jade got a look at his bondmate. Sort of. He, Jade could tell that much, was covered fromd tod to toe with airy garments that covered his features completely. But it was the Prince's wings that made jade start. Each feather was dyed a different color. Every color of the rainbow and anything in between was represented in the wings of the other prince.
"What's the meaning of this?" King Obsidian deed aed as he stared at the brightly colored wings.
A tall stately woman with a crown on her head stepped forward and bowed lowly before accepting a short one from Jade's father. "It is a custom in our kingdom for a person about to marry to dye their wings the colors of the rainbow as a sign of peace and trust."
King Obsidian nodded shortly. "Okay. Let us be on our way."
Jade looked at the down cast brown eyes and wondered what it would be like to use this... sort of White Wing against his people. He could only hope that he wasn't as weak as he looked, otherwise Jade would break him the first night.
Graciously Jade offered his elbow to the other prince and the man looked up for a second before lowering his head and taking it, allowing Jade to guide him.

"I do so swear that I will serve you how ever you see fit. I will guard your life with my own and I promise to allow you anything you would wish of me."
Jade allowed the other Prince to hold his hand and speak the traditional binding words of a submissive bondmate. Once the words were finished the crowd cheered and the other prince started to go towards where a high priest was waiting to marry them, only to have Jade keep a grip on his hand.
Everything stopped as they waited for Jade to speak, thinking he was going to reassure the other prince or something.
"As your dominate bondmate my first order is to go rid yourself of the colors in your wings. It's detestable." Jade ordered harshly as he propelled the other prince towards the man servant who had come with him.
A gasp went through the White Wing party as the queen stepped forward. "What is the meaning of this outrage? It is traditional for a White Wing to be married in their bridal colors!"
Jade turned an evil smile on the queen. "You see, that's the problem. I'm not going to marry him."
Another gasp went through the crowd, this time the White Wings were joined by the Black Wings.
"But you must! You're his bondmate!" the high priest stated as he glared at his prince in outrage.
"No, I don't. It doesn't say anywhere that I have to marry him for him to be my bondmate. From this moment on the White Wing prince is mine in every manner." Jade's dark smile didn't falter as he turned to his bondmate. "Now go wash that crap from your wings."
"I can not." the White Wing prince said his eyes down cast.
"Why not?" Jade demanded ready to hit the other prince for disobeying him.
"I can not wash it out. It is a semi-permeant dye. It has to wear off."
Jade growled and then shook his head. "It doesn't matter. I'll see your white wings soon enough. Guard, take him to my suite. Allow no one to talk to him other than his servant. If I find out he has spoken with anyone from this castle or someone has spoken to him, I will have their heads resting in the center of the court yard for jousting practice."
Murmurs of agreement went through the crowd and a guard came forward who lead the White Wing prince away with his man servant following.
Jade felt a hand on his shoulder and glanced up just enough to catch a glimpse of his father's long silvering hair. "Yes, Father?"
"I would speak with you in my study... now." the older royal's voice held a sliver of steel as he turned and walked away.
The prince only shrugged a little and followed a moment later.

"What were you thinking?" the king demanded as soon as Jade walked into the room.
"It's my revenge on the White Wings. They killed my other father and now I'm taking their precious prince as my whore... It seems like a fitting trade to me." Jade said as he walked around the room and flopped carelessly into a chair by the large desk. Stretching Jade flexed his wings out behind him and settled into the chair more, waiting for his father's approval.
To his surprise a moment later a sharp hand came across his cheek, stinging bitterly. "Ow! What was that for?"
Jade watched his father walk away from him and sit behind his desk. Jade received another shook when his father looked him straight in the eyes for the first time in over ten years. "I see I have done wrong by you... You have turned into a bitter young man... Nothing like Adrien had wanted."
Jade knew his eyes went wide at the sound of his other father's name.
Obsidian watched the shock in his son's eyes and wondered where he had gone wrong. Though he didn't have to wonder long, before he knew. It had hurt so much losing Adrien. And then when Jade had laughed and looked just like the lost consort, Obsidian hadn't known what else to do other than send him away from his sight. He had wanted to drive the pain away, and as the pain had gone so had his son's heart.
"For that I am sorry. I would ask that you marry that poor child. He did nothing. He was not the one who killed your father." Obsidian watched as his own stubbornness flitted across Jade's hazel eyes.
"I will do no such thing. I am not just punishing the White Wings for the death of my other father. I am punishing the prince for ever one of our people's lives his people ever took. It seems like just to me. You'll have to excuse me father." Jade stood and with a short almost mocking bow walked out.
Obsidian turned and looked out the window nearest him. "I have wronged you, beloved... I have turned our son into such an angry person... I hope I will find enough forgiveness to join you on the Great Southern Winds one day."
Through the open window a soft breeze touched his face causing the older king to close his eyes and for a moment he could almost hear the gentle voice of his beloved telling him to be strong and one day they would be together again.
