Chapter 3
That evening Jen checked herself over in her mirror before leaving for Sean’s house. She had put on something simple and not to fancy. She put on a black skirt that stopped mid thigh and Burgundy button up shirt. She headed out and found his house pretty easy.
When she rang the door bell and he answered she stood gazing at him. He had on some black jeans and a white silk shirt that clung to muscles in chect and arms. He was so handsome that she just couldn’t tear her gaze away from him.
“Jen you can come in.” She finally heard him say breaking her trance of staring at him.
“Sorry…” She blushed.
She walked into his house and he shut the door behind her.
“Mmm it smells good Sean.” She told him taking a sniff of the wonderful aroma coming form the kitchen.
“Thanks, I hope you like Chinese.”
“I love it.” She smiled at him.
She followed Sean into the kitchen and watched him finish the dinner. He pulled two glasses out from a cabinet above his head.
“Care for a glass of wine?” he asked.
“Sure.” She smiled.
He poured them each a glass of wine and she went into the dining room to sit at the table. She walked in and found that Sean had set it up for a candle lit dinner. She smiled at how romantic he was before sitting down at the dinning room table. A few minutes later he walked in with their food. He set a plate down in front of her.
“It looks good.” She said taking bite. “Mmmm tastes just as good.” She gave him a smile.
“I’m glad you like it.” He said taking bite of his food.
“Where did you learn to cook so well?” she asked looking over at him.
“My mom and Stacy.” He told her with a smile.
They sat in silence for a few minutes eating their food. Jen kept glancing up at him. The candle light threw shadows on him that made him look even more attractive to her. After a few minutes of silence Sean finally spoke.
“Where are you originally from then? He inquired.
“St. Louis, but I have seen more things out here in 3 months then I have seen back home.”
“Really?” he said arching an eyebrow.
“Yah, it’s all just a bunch of murders most of the time. Not like a lot of this drug related stuff that goes on here. Keeps me interested.”
“How do you like the city otherwise” He asked taking a sip of his wine looking at her.
“It’s great, just wish I could get out some more and see the sights.”
“I think I can help you out with that.”
When they both had finished eating, Jen helped him clear up the dishes and put them away. He got them each a beer and handed one to Jen.
“Want to go outside?” he asked her.
“Sure.”
Sean took her hand and led out to the back of the house. His hand was so warm but yet soft as he held her hand.
It was a cool autumn night and the sky was already a pinkish purple form the setting sun. He led her out the beach near the ocean and sat down and urged her to sit next to him.
“God, Sean it’s so beautiful out here.” She gazed about finally looking out into the ocean. She could have lived out here herself.
“That’s what Stacy said when we bought the place.”
Jen looked at him, and he was gazing out into the distance looking towards the ocean, as the waves lapped up near their feet.
“Sean, do you like to talk about her?”
“It’s not as hard, but I don’t mind it now. Like I said, she will always hold a place in my heart.”
“Do you mind me asking what happened?”
“Some fucking hit men were sent by Diablo who was the big drug lord, to kill us but I killed them first, I was hit once, but Stacy was hit 2 times and died in my arms. I woke in the hospital when Demetrius told me they had buried her already. I didn’t even get to see her funeral.” He told her with some sadness in his voice.
“I’m sorry.” Was all she could say.
“I’m trying to put all that behind me now and move on.”
When Jen looked at him he was looking down at her. She turned her gaze away from to look back out at the ocean. She felt his hand on her face as he turned her head to look at him.
“Jen, you are beautiful and I have thought so since the first time I saw you at work.”
“Really Sean?” she asked feeling herself blush.
“I wouldn’t of told if you weren’t.” he told her giving her a smile.
He ran his thumb across her lower lip sending a shiver down her spine. His touch was so gentle, then he put his hand on the side of her head and she leaned into it, closing her eyes, she felt his warm breath inches from her lips before he lightly kissed her. His lips we so soft, she didn’t want it to end. But it didn’t feel right to her yet. She pulled away.
“I have to go Sean.” She said standing up.
He stood up with her following her as she walked towards his house to get her things.
“Jen, are you okay?” he asked blocking her way out the front door.
‘I’m fine Sean, I just need to go home, I’m tired.”
“Okay, I’ll see you in work tomorrow?”
“Yah. Thanks for dinner, it was great.” She told him with a weak smile.
She walked out to her car and got in and sat there for minutes. She felt tears sting her cheeks. Why was she holding back form him? He told her how he felt about her, but she just couldn’t bring herself to tell him. She enjoyed the kiss he gave her and can’t believe she pulled away from it. She needed to go home and clear her head and talk to him in the morning. She drove back to her apartment and when she was inside she threw on her nightclothes and collapsed on the bed crying herself to sleep.
