Mark pulled to a stop in front of the cabin and sat there for a few seconds. For the last three days, Shayna McMahon had been on his mind. No matter what he did he couldn't shake her from his thoughts. He wondered what the boss would think if he knew he was having thoughts about his beautiful niece. Grinning he got off his bike and decided to test the waters. Pulling out his cell phone he dialed Vince.
"McMahon" Vince said answering his cell phone.
"Hey Boss, it's Mark."
"Hey how is everything?" Vince said hearing the change in Marks voice.
"Everything is good, I just wanted to thank you for setting this up for me. It's really helping."
"Good…Good, sometimes we just need to escape for awhile. Has my niece been up to see you yet?"
"Yes, she came up on Sunday to make sure everything was all right. As a matter of fact I just came back from her house. I stopped by to say hello and she was cussing out her sink." Mark said laughing.
"Cussing out her sink?" Vince asked.
"The sink was backed up and she couldn't get the pipe undone. So I fixed it for her." Mark explained.
"Good, I'm glad you were around to help. That ex of hers is a real piece of work doesn't do anything to help her out. Hell he doesn't even pay child support."
"I met him too, wasn't very impressed."
"How did you manage to meet that jackass?" Vince asked.
"He stopped by to pick up the girls."
"I wish he'd just disappear. He harasses her all the time."
"What do you mean?"
"He just calls her all the time threatens to take the kids from her, like I would ever let that happen."
"I just wanted to let you know your description was right on."
My description?"
"Yes, Shayna is beautiful, she's sweet too."
"Ahhh do I hear interest in your voice?"
"Maybe." Mark said laughing.
"Just don't hurt her, your ass is mine if you do."
"Wouldn't dream of it. I just wanted to let you know I made it up here all right."
"Glad you called, tell Shayna I said hello."
"Will do Vince, thanks again."
"Anytime. Talk to you soon." Vince said as he hung up the phone. Vince let out a chuckle.
"What?" Linda asked looking over at him.
"Nothing, I think Mark is interested in Shayna."
"Well that's not a bad thing. I like Mark." Linda replied.
"So do I why do you think I sent him up there and didn't fire his ass." Vince said winking at her.
"Uh oh, those two are in trouble if you're playing matchmaker." Linda said giggling.
Mark hung up his cell phone and entered the cabin, deciding to take a shower he walked to the back of the house and began to get undressed. Glancing at the bed a picture of Shayna entered his mind. He pictured the two of them making love. "Where the hell did that come from he asked shaking himself back to reality. Mark jumped into the shower and began to get ready for his date. He was glad Vince hadn't been opposed to the idea of him seeing Shayna because if he had been he didn't know what he would have done. He knew he couldn't get her out of his system until he got to know her better. It had been a long time since he'd been out on a date. He did feel a little guilty, he still loved Sara, but she had been the one to cheat on him and they were separated. At the thought of Sara the tattoo on his throat began to tingle. Rubbing it he sighed. "Why'd you have to go and screw around?" He said out loud. Once he was finished he searched through the clothes he had brought wit him deciding on a his normal black jeans and a black button down shirt he got dressed and pulled his hair back into a ponytail. Deciding to leave a little early. Going outside he started up his bike and revved the engine. Mark looked at his watch and decided it was too early to pick Shayna up and decided to take a little ride to clear his mind.
Shayna searched through her closet for the fifth time trying to decide what to wear. If she didn't decide soon she'd be meeting Mark at the door in her bathrobe. Getting frustrated she threw a shoe in the closet and it bounced of the back wall the vibration knocking a box off the top shelf. Picking up the box she noticed that it was the outfit Stephanie had sent her for her birthday the year before. Shayna had never had anywhere to wear it to so she had stuck it on the shelf to wear the next time she went home to Connecticut. Pulling out the outfit she sighed. Leather really wasn't her style but she was willing to try anything once and twice if she liked it. Shayna finished dressing and looked in the mirror. It was hard to believe she was looking at herself. Smiling she decided to put on a little makeup something she rarely did. Raising two kids by herself left her little time for herself. Occasionally she was blessed with enough time to pamper herself with a bubble bath but that was far and few between. Once she had applied the make up and put her hair up in French twist she grinned. This was definitely a good look for her. She hoped Mark would like it. She was just cleaning up the mess she had made in her room when she heard his motorcycle pull up. She took a deep breath and waited for the doorbell.
Mark parked his bike and walked up to the front door, taking a deep breath he rang the doorbell and waited. When Shayna opened the door he couldn't believe what he saw. In place of the jean-clad woman, mother of two he had seen earlier was one of the most beautiful women he had ever seen.
"Hi Mark, come on in." Shayna said smiling up at him.
"Thanks, you look beautiful."
"Thank you, you're looking pretty handsome yourself." She said blushing at his compliment.
"These are for you." Mark said handing her the flowers he had behind his back.
"Mark they are beautiful, thank you." She said taking them and kissing him on the cheek.
"Your welcome, I was ready a little early and took a drive. A woman was selling on the side of the road."
"That would be Anna, she lives about a mile or so from here. She grows them in her flower garden."
"Very nice woman, she seemed very excited when I told her who they were for." Mark said grinning.
"Yes, Anna has been after me for the last three years to get back to the dating scene." Shayna said laughing. "Just let me put these in water and I'll be ready to go." She added walking into the kitchen.
Mark looked around the living room and noticed some pictures on the fire place mantle. He was looking at them when she came back. "How old were you in this picture." Mark said picking up the picture of her and Vince.
"We were about 9 there. Uncle Vince had taken Shane and I to Disney Land for our birthday." Shayna responded smiling at the memory.
"You can see how close you were. It's a good picture of him. And you were a cute kid."
"You think so? I always thought I was awkward. I never really fit in as a kid." Shayna said picking up a picture of her and her parents.
"Who's that?" Mark asked walking up behind her.
"My parents, they died when I was 16, after they died I lived with Uncle Vince and Aunt Linda until I graduated."
"You look like your dad." Mark said hearing the pain in her voice.
"I always thought so too. My dad was great he always made sure he had time for me no matter what. I guess it's a McMahon thing because Uncle Vince was the same way with Stephanie and Shane." Shayna said setting the picture back up on the mantle.
"You make time for the important things in life, if you don't you miss out on a lot." Mark said quietly.
"My dad would have liked you, he used to say the exact same thing." Shayna said smiling as she grabbed her jacket.
"Good because I sure like his daughter." Mark said helping her put it on.
Shayna ducked her head not knowing what to say.
"Come on we've got dinner reservations."
"Oh yeah where are you taking me?"
"It's a surprise." Mark said taking her hand and leading out the door.
"I love surprises, I'm just wondering how you planned this all in such a short period of time."
"A little birdie helped me." Mark said laughing as he got on the bike. "Have you ever ridden on the back of a bike before?" He asked taking her hand and helping her on.
"Nope, I'm a newbie so bear with me." Shayna said nervously.
"Just wrap your arms around my waist and you see those pegs down there?" Mark asked pointing down to the foot pegs.
"Yep."
"Put your feet on them." Mark instructed.
Shayna wrapped her arms around his waist and held on tight. "You scared?" Mark asked quietly.
"No I trust you." Shayna said scooting up on the seat so her breasts were pressed into his back and her thighs were touching his hips.
"Good, let's go." Mark said reaching back and rubbing her leg. Mark could tell she was nervous because as soon as he took off she tightened her arms around his waist. He could feel the heat from her body seeping into him and he liked the feel of her body pressed against his. They drove for about twenty minutes before Mark pulled into a restaurant located in another town.
"Mark, this is my favorite restaurant how did you know?" Shayna asked getting off the bike.
"I told you a little birdie told me." Mark said grinning as he took his helmet off and took hers from her hands.
"That little birdie wouldn't be named Anna would it?"
"I'd tell you but then I'd have to kill you."
"You don't play fair." Shayna said as they walked inside.
"Hello may I help you?" The hostess asked looking at them up and down.
"We have a reservation under Calloway."
"Right this way Mr. Calloway, we've given you our best table."
"Well thank you." Shayna said surprised.
"What's wrong?" Mark asked pulling her chair out for her.
"Nothing I'm just surprised, they don't give their best table away to just anybody." Shayna said smiling as he sat down.
"Well I think my little birdie had something to do with it." Mark said laughing.
"I'm on a mission to find out this little birdie's name so I can thank it."
"It wishes to remain anonymous or I would tell you."
Throughout dinner Mark and Shayna talked about everything from their childhoods, loosing loved ones to the present. They were having a wonderful time until all hell broke loose.
"What's up Shayna, you out slumming?" They heard from two tables over.
Shayna turned around to see Andy's best friend sitting there. "Mike, how nice to see you." She said sarcastically.
"Gee I wonder what Andy is going to say when I tell him about this."
"I really don't care what Andy has to say about it, he doesn't run my life anymore. In case you've forgotten we've been divorced for three years."
"You're still his woman, regardless."
"Mike is it?" Mark asked looking at him.
"Yeah and what's your name?"
"The name is Mark and unless you want to be eating that spaghetti through a straw, I suggest you mind your manners and your own business."
"Oh yeah? And what are you going to do about it?" Mike asked standing up.
"Michael don't." Samantha his wife said giving Shayna a sad look.
Shayna couldn't help but notice the bruise on Samantha's cheek. She felt sorry for her. It used to be her in that position.
Mark stood up when Michael took a step towards Shayna. "I wouldn't if I were you."
"Mark please let's just go. We were done anyway." Shayna said putting her hand on his arm.
"I know who you are…Wonder what your wife would think if she knew you were fucking that whore your with. What's her name? Sara isn't it."
Before Shayna knew what was happening Mark had the man by the throat it reminded her of the way he would do in the ring. "Mark!" She said loudly causing him to look at her. She could see the anger in his eyes and knew if she didn't get him out of there Mike would be in serious trouble and Mark would end up going to jail.
Mark released him and picked up his jacket. Throwing enough money down on the table to cover the bill he turned and walked out of the restaurant.
"I should have let him beat the hell out of you." Shayna said turning to Mike who was still gasping for air. Shayna took one last look at Samantha and mouthed for her to call her and followed the path Mark had taken. She found him leaning against his bike smoking a cigarette. "You know those things will kill you." She said teasing him.
"We all gotta die sometime." Mark said looking at her with pain in his eyes.
"Well if you can't beat `em join `em," she said taking his cigarette and taking a drag before throwing it to the ground.
"Shayna I'm sorry I overreacted and ruined our evening."
"Mark, you didn't ruin anything and you didn't overreact. He had no right to say to you what he did and I only stopped you because I wanted to spend the rest of the evening with you, not trying to bail you out of jail for killing him."
"I wouldn't have killed him, just hurt him severely." Mark said getting on the bike and starting it as Shayna climbed on the back. "Where to?" He asked.
"I don't care let's just go for a ride." Shayna said resting her chin on his shoulder.
"Good idea." Mark said taking off.
They had rode for an hour when Shayna motioned for him to make a turn. The road was blocked off but there was enough room on the side for the bike to get through. Riding up the hill they came to an over look. Mark stopped the bike and shut off the engine and looked around. The scenery was beautiful you could see the lights of the town below and the moon above the trees cast just enough light so they could see each other.
"How did you ever find this place?" Mark asked.
"I used to come up here after the divorce when I needed to think. Anna said it used to be a popular make out spot but in the early eighties a car went over the edge and they blocked it off so you couldn't drive up here. I used to have to walk up here but I figured you could get through on the bike." Shayna said getting off and walking to the edge and looked out over the town.
"It is a great spot to think." Mark said walking up behind her. It was getting cold out and knew she must be freezing. "You cold?" He asked slipping his arms around her.
"Not anymore." Shayna replied leaning back against him.
"Shayna I have to ask this."
"What?"
"What did Mike mean when he said that you were still his woman regardless?"
Shayna sighed and wondered if she should tell him, if her uncle ever found out what had been going on over the last three years he'd be pissed. Deciding she could trust him she told him. "Andy has it in his mind that I belong to him, even though we are divorced; he still tries to run my life. One of the reasons I haven't dated anyone since the divorce is because Andy has a way of scaring people off." Shayna whispered.
"So what's different about me?"
"I don't know. It's strange; I haven't been able to get you out of my head since I met you. I thought about it and if you were willing to ask me out then I was willing to go. I knew if I didn't I would regret it. I don't want to have any more regrets. And I don't want Andy running my life anymore. If I want to go out with a friend I should be able to, If I want to start seeing someone I have the right too."
Mark gently turned her around to face him and tilted her chin up with his finger. Rubbing his thumb across her cheek he looked into her eyes and saw the fear and the pain she felt and wondered what the hell Andy Martin had done to her to put it there. Without thinking Mark lowered his head and captured her lips in a tender kiss. When Shayna didn't pull away his tongue darted out and licked the seam of her lips requesting entrance.
Shayna couldn't believe what was happening, she had never made a habit of letting a man have more than a chaste goodnight kiss on the first date. But Mark wasn't just any man. She had known the first time she had looked into his eyes that there was more to him then you could see. She slid her arms around his neck and found the rubber band that held the ponytail at the back of his neck secure and pulled it loose as she opened her mouth and allowed him entrance to the warm recesses of her mouth. Mark groaned when she ran her fingers into his hair. Running one of his hands down her throat and down her arm he finally slid it around her waist pulling her into him. Shayna could feel his erection against her and moaned as he held her to him deepening the kiss. Mark broke the kiss and nibbled his way down her throat to her ear. "God Shayna, what are we doing?" He whispered nibbling on her ear lobe.
"I don't know but it feel's right." She said pulling back to look at him.
"Your right it does, but we need to slow this down or we might do something we'll regret…I mean this is happening so fast. I don't want to hurt you. My life is a mess right now, I don't know whether I'm coming or going." He whispered leaning his forehead against hers.
Shayna reached up and gently touched his cheek. "Thank you." She whispered kissing him gently.
"For what?" He asked confused.
"For thinking clearly. For some reason when I'm around you, every lucid thought in my head disappears. For not wanting to hurt me, any other man would have take advantage of the situation." Shayna said looking up into his face.
"Darlin…don't get me wrong, I do want to make love to you I just want to make sure we both are ready. And somehow I don't think three days is enough time to know each other well enough to make that decision." Mark said framing her face with his hands.
"You're a good man Mark Calloway."
"Come on, I need to get you home before you freeze to death." Mark whispered holding her close. Letting her go he opened up his saddlebag and pulled out a hooded sweatshirt. "Put this on, it'll keep you a little warmer."
Shayna took off her jacket and handed it to him and slipped on the sweatshirt and read the logo DEAD MAN INC. You do realize you won't be getting this back don't you." She said slipping it on with a smile.
Mark helped her on with her jacket and pulled her close. "It's yours." He said dropping a kiss on her forehead then getting on the bike and revving the engine.
They rode home Shayna holding on to Mark. When he pulled into her driveway he shut off the engine and sat there for a minute. "Do you want to come in for awhile? It's still early." Shayna asked quietly.
"As much as I'd like to. I think we both know that might not be a good idea." He said as she got off. "But my momma did teach me to always walk a lady to her door." He added with a grin.
"I'm glad you listened to her." Shayna said taking his hand. Mark took her keys from her hand and went to unlock the door when he inserted the key the door pushed open.
"Mark…I locked the door when I left." Shayna whispered her eyes filling with panic.
"Stay here while I check it out. Take my cell phone, if you hear anything strange dial nine one one." Mark said quietly pushing the door open.
"Be careful." She said afraid for his safety, she had no idea what he'd find once he went inside.
Mark walked inside quietly he looked around and didn't find anything unusual in the hallway. Walking into the living room he cursed. Somebody had not only broken everything in site they had spray painted the walls. Calling her every filthy name in the English language. "Shayna." He called out.
Shayna walked into her living room and gasped. "Who would have done something like this?" She whispered tears springing to her eyes.
"You know who did this as well as I do." Mark said trying to control his anger.
"But why would Mike do this, we were only having dinner."
"Honey I'm sorry, this is my fault. I embarrassed him and he retaliated on you." Mark said taking his cell phone from her hands and dialing nine one one. He pulled Shayna into his arms when the floodgates opened and she started to cry.
"Nine one one. What's your emergency?" The dispatcher asked.
"My name is Mark Calloway. I'd like to report a break in at 213 Silver Mountain Road."
