Part II
Nick woke the next morning in a rather good mood, even after his encounter with Lexie. He looked over at his clock and realizing that it was somewhat early he rolled out of bed and grabbed his guitar. He slipped the strap over his head and turned on the amp. He strummed it once to make sure it was in tune and then proceeded to play some Guns and Roses song. He began jumping around in nothing more then his boxers. It would have been a very entertaining show had he of had an audience present.
Meanwhile Skye was walking down the street. She was headed to Nick’s house to wake him up so they could hang out for the day. This seemed to be their Saturday routine. She soon reached Nick’s house and rang the bell. Nick probably would have known she was there had he not of had his amp so loud. Mrs. Wheeler opened the door to find Skye standing there.
“Morning Skye. If you couldn’t tell Nick’s actually up this morning. He’s in his room.” She stated smiling. Skye thanked her and headed back to Nick’s room, the sound of his guitar rising as she got closer. She stopped in front of the closed door and now could hear Nick singing while he played. She smiled to herself devilishly. She quickly opened the door to find Nick jumping around in his boxers. She couldn’t help but laugh. Nick quickly turned around and stopped playing. His cheeks were turning a slight shade of pink.
“Skye, hey.” He said setting his guitar back on its stand.
“Morning. I loved the show.” She stated sarcastically. Nick rolled his eyes as Skye laughed. She looked him up and down, he was rather build for a sixteen year old.
“Shut up you.” He replied searching around for a pair of pants. Upon finding a pair he slipped them on. Skye watched the entire time. “So, what do you wanna do today?” He asked zipping his pants.
“I don’t know. We could have a jam session at my place or you could teach me some of those great jumping moves I just saw you do.” She said beginning to laugh. Nick shot her an evil glare.
“How about we see if Tyson can really play bass or not.” They both agreed and headed over to Tyson’s house having got the address at the party.
Tyson was still sleeping when they arrived so they figured they’d let him snooze and decided, instead, to go take a walk. There really wasn’t much to do in Stillwater, so they often had to create their own fun. With these two it often led to dangerous things. This morning, however, the two decided to just chill beside the small creek in their neighborhood. They both sat and Nick turned to Skye.
“Skye, do you think my clothes are grungy?” He asked remembering his conversation with Lexie the previous night.
“No, why? Your clothes are fine.” She replied. She loved the way he wore chucks, jeans, and a tee shirt everyday. She thought it was fucking hot.
“No reason. Just curious.” Nick turned his gaze back to the creek. He was again more or less lost in thought about Lexie.
“Nick, you don’t just ask something like that for no reason. What did Lexie say to you last night?” Skye knew him better then he thought she did.
“She told me the grunge look went out five years ago.” He replied without thinking. Skye turned to him.
“Would you listen to yourself!? That bitch is poison. You never used to care about how you looked and now your all worried your clothes are out of style. If she told you to give up your chucks would you?” Nick knew something was bugging her. He had always figured that she just hated Lexie, but her out burst had caused him to think differently.
“Skye, calm down. You know I’d never give up my chucks. They’re part of my life. Hell I wear them everyday of my life.” Skye calmed down a bit from Nick’s words. “Why are you so upset anyway?” Nick asked, totally wanting to know. Skye was caught off guard, and had to really think on her toes.
“I just hate Lexie is all.” She hoped that he would believe her.
“Well, I know that, but something else is gotta be wrong. You even left the party early last night. You always leave with me and you didn’t last night. I just wanted to make sure you’re all right.” She smiled at him. It was moment’s like this that had made her fall for him in the first place.
“I’m fine. I was just tired, but I’m good now.” She replied watching the creek. Suddenly Tyson appeared behind them.
“Tyson, we were just about to go back to your place. We wanna hear you play.” Nick stated seeing him first. Tyson tensed. He hadn’t even bought his bass yet. He had to think up another lie and quick.
“Well, my dad and I gotta go and get strings tomorrow. It needed some new ones.” He replied. Good lie! He thought himself.
“Man, that sucks. Well, you wanna hang with us for a bit?” Skye asked. Tyson’s blue eyes lit up.
“Yeah, definitely!” He exclaimed. The three of them headed off to find something entertaining to do for the day.
Monday soon rolled around and Nick as always, was hanging with Skye before class. They still hadn’t heard Tyson play, but were hoping he was really good. Nick slammed his locker and turned to Skye.
“So, you think the band will do all right this weekend? I mean we made like fifty bucks last weekend at that kid’s party.” Nick stated matter-of-factly.
“Y’all will do fine. You always rock out.” They had begun to walk. Nick always walked Skye to her first class. This was one of those other moments that made her fall for him.
“Yeah, I guess you’re right. You’re coming right?” He asked.
“Of course! I wouldn’t miss it for the world.” She replied throwing her arms around him. He smiled; he loved it when she did that. It always seemed to turn out to be a good day when she hugged him like that. They both stopped when they saw Lexie kissing Skye’s brother. Skye turned to Nick and mouthed ‘I’m sorry’. Nick couldn’t take it. Without even saying anything to Skye he walked off. He walked straight out of school and kept walking until he reached his house. Fortunately for him his mother worked late on Mondays, so his skipping school went unnoticed. The moment he got to his room he practically threw himself on his bed. Soon his muffled scream could be heard. He didn’t know if he was more pissed off or more upset. She had been single for so long and then of course, right when he thought he had finally had even the slightest bit of a chance he caught her making out with some guy. Not just any guy, but his best friend’s brother. He was in a strange state of semi-shock as he turned on his radio. He closed his eyes and soon the soothing rhythms began to ease his pain.
Skye walked into Nick’s house. His house was never locked during the day. No one ever got robbed in Stillwater. She walked in and back to his room. She had worried about him the entire day and was half tempted to skip her self, but knew her brother would find out and tell. She didn’t want any trouble with her parents. When she reached Nick’s room she was surprised to find the door open. Nick had always shut the door to his room; it was a strange security thing. She walked in to find him on his bed with his eyes closed. She could hear the rock music that was softly playing from his radio. She walked in.
“Nick?” She asked softly, not wanting to upset him further. He looked at her, opening his eyes for a mere two seconds before shutting them again.
“What?” He snapped.
“Well, I just wanted to see how you were doing. I’ve been worried about you.” She replied taking a seat on the edge of his bed. He sat and looked at her, his features softening.
“I’m fine. Just a little ticked off is all.” He paused. “I really like her, Skye. I think I love her.” He finished. Skye was now trying to hold back the tears that were welling in her eyes from his words.
“Are you sure?” She asked, the hurt a little too evident in her voice.
“Yeah. She’s just so beautiful. I love her dark hair and her green eyes. She’s perfect.” He replied, causing a tear to fall from her eyes. She quickly wiped it away before he was able to notice. She needed to get out of there and fast.
“Hey, I’ve got a shit load of homework, so I gotta get going. I just wanted to make sure you were all right.” She said standing. He stood next to her.
“Thanks Skye. You’ll always be my best friend.” He said hugging her and giving her a kiss on the cheek. She walked out as fast as she could. That had been all she could take. He had told her straight up that he only thought of her as a friend; nothing more then a friend.
Skye ran in her house and right into her brother Jason. He had a coke in his hands and was none to happy when his sister ran into him causing his drink to spill on his pants. Skye looked up slowly to see who she had run into. It took her a moment to make out the face due to the tears fogging up her vision.
“Damn it, Skye! Now I’ve got to go and change.” He paused. “Damn and Lexie’s here.” Skye couldn’t believe her ears. Like it wasn’t bad enough to have the guy she liked tell her they were nothing more then friends, but now the one girl who had caused it all was sitting in her living room. Skye was pissed. She stormed into her room, or at least she tried. Lexie stopped her on her way.
“Skye, hey. How are you?” Lexie asked, smiling. How dare she fucking act like we’re friends! I ought to kick her ass right here right now. Skye thought. She was more then furious.
“I’m just great considering the fact that my best friend, who I have a major crush on, is in love with some girl who’s a complete and total bitch. To make things worse my brother’s dating you. I’d say I’m just fucking terrific!” She screamed as her brother walked back in the room. Upon seeing him she stormed off. Lexie turned to Jason.
“What the fuck was her problem?” She asked. Jason smiled. He knew what was wrong; it was fucking obvious. He had just been trying to do his sister a favor by getting Lexie out of the way so that she could make her move on Nick. Unfortunately his plan hadn’t worked out quite the way he wanted to.
