Part Three
Natalie stepped out of the taxi and eyed the lone villa with a curious eye, her heart sliding up in her throat. Surreptitiously, she glanced down at her map and GPS in her hand. She knew this was the correct place, but she had been expecting a hotel, not a house. Beautiful pale yellow washed over the stone front, the swaying palm trees creating a picture perfect frame. The soft whoosh of the palm leaves rustling in the sea breeze leant a relaxed, languid air to the place and a smile curved her lips. It was an idyll away from the real world. And he was behind that door waiting for her.
The clearing of the taxi driver’s throat halted the tumbling of her stomach.
“Would you like me to carry your bag in, miss?”
The beaming driver had been a welcomed diversion on the way in, keeping her company and soothing her jangling nerves. Living on Montserrat all his life, he had extolled the virtues of living on the tropical paradise island in spite of the upheaval the country endured when the Sufrier Hills volcano erupted in 1997. The airport was still waiting for completion because of the destruction and Natalie had chartered a helicopter to get her to the magnificent jeweled country. She thought about the ferry, but time was of the essence and she didn’t want to waste a single, precious second of the day.
All around them, she had seen life had definitely returned to normal on the island. Her driver elaborated on the many black sand beaches that existed along with the sugary white ones and the mountains towering high with explosive possibilities. This particular place, he informed her, was a private villa with its own stretch of white sand beach. He hadn’t even known it was up for rental yet, but it must have been completed ahead of schedule. A wealthy American computer magnate had ordered its construction and decided to rent it when he was not in residence. It was rumored the man was Bill Gates, but he couldn’t be sure. Either way, it was definitely a prize to be had.
“No, I’m fine,” Natalie smiled, paying the cab fare and generous tip. “Thank you for the lovely ride and details.”
“My pleasure,” he grinned widely. “I had hoped to get a chance to see this place up close. It’s not huge, but it’s certainly a beauty!”
When he drove away, Natalie turned to the villa, hoisted her bag on her shoulder and stepped into the cool confines of the porch. Double mahogany doors greeted her and for a few moments she stood still, urging her stomach to get itself under control. Anticipation was one thing, sick with it was something else. She felt like a teenager about to meet her favorite pop star.
“This is ridiculous!” She breathed to herself. “Nat, get hold of yourself. You’re a grown woman! He’s only flesh and blood.”
It brought a sheepish grin to her face. Only flesh and blood? Taunting, erotic images flushed through her mind and she fidgeted from one foot to the other. The mess they had made of her bedroom, broken dishes, spilled suitcase! The picture frame was beyond repair, but she gladly paid for it. The memory was far more priceless. Good thing he wasn’t standing there, she thought, or he would see her face reddening and know her thoughts were on the ravishing of her on the desk. Maybe today should be the day they actually spoke to one another. Maybe today she would be able to tell him what was going on inside her.
Straightening her shoulders and exhaling a deep breath, Natalie consciously relaxed her body and raised her fist to knock on the door. Moments went by and she knocked again. And again. Brows veeing she bit her lip and grasped the door handle. She expected to find it locked, but the door handle turned and with a slight push, opened.
Chills tingled up her spine as she crept inside, taking a minute to allow her eyes to adjust to the cool interior. With a dreamy sigh she took in the creamy walls of the living room, her sandals clicking on the hardwood floor as she wandered around, her head craned back to look up at the high arched ceiling, a fan languidly turning in the sultry air. Plush couches and armchairs spilled around the room haphazardly instead of the typical cane and wicker furniture so well known in the Caribbean. In spite of the newness, it had a lived in air about it, very homey and welcoming. Natalie couldn’t help but admire Hayden’s choice. She approved whole-heartedly.
But where was Hayden? Not wanting to call out and spoil the excitement of the game, she meandered through the villa, searching for him. There was a den equipped with the latest computer equipment and four large, airy bedrooms, each with its own computer. The master bedroom was dominated by the king-sized bed, the cover sizzling with rich, jeweled colors instead of the pastels of the other rooms. Plush pillows piled at the head of the bed, it looked like a place for more than sleeping. Her heart skipped a beat as she spied the door of the bathroom and peeked in. The large, sunken tub reminded her of their last meeting and she turned away only to catch her breath at the huge, decadent shower compartment.
“I have to get out of this room,” she muttered to herself, as her body began to hum in warning.
Feet skittering across the tiled floor she hurried out of the villa through the kitchen’s sliding glass door to the wide veranda. An audible gasp escaped Natalie as she took in the covered porch, the scent of flowers wafting through the air. On the side, bright, tropical pink flowers climbed a pillar, their color brilliant against the deep green of its leaves. A large glass table and chairs for eating outside stood square in the center, but Natalie lost interest as she wandered to the railing and looked down the steps at a sparkling pool. Images of swimming naked there with just a full moon for light assailed her. She could see it clearly, Hayden swimming up to her and anchoring her legs around his waist as his lips took hers in a passionate kiss, lining her willing hips over his, pushing her down…
“Stop it!” She shook her head, scolding herself aloud. “Quit daydreaming and find him.”
Down the steps she traipsed the curved stone path to the pool and walked to the other end, shading her hand over her eyes to gaze down over the bright, white sand about fifty yards away. Up this high she could just see through the grove of palm trees. The turquoise of the water glittered and she squinted at an object on the sand, her stomach rolling in recognition.
With his back to her, Hayden sat on the sand, arms loosely around his knees, his shirtless back finally tan from all the sun he’d gotten on vacation. Unable to make out much else, she flew down the steps on the other side of the pool and raced down the cut path through the palm trees to the beach. Kicking off her sandals at the edge, she dug her feet under the hot layer of sand to find the cool layer beneath. Minutes stretched as she just stood there and stared at him, his hair tousled from the breeze, his hand sifting now and then through the fine grains of sand. Getting herself under control, Natalie walked towards him, dragging her feet through the sand to keep from burning them.
Hayden’s back stiffened, his head cocking as if listening for something, though she didn’t make a sound. About ten feet away, she stopped, drinking in the sight of him, the surf drowning out the heavy thumping of her heart. Slowly, his head turned, one hand planted behind him to aid his movement. Seeing her, he stood and brushed his white shorts off, his feet carrying him half the distance.
They stared at each other, Hayden’s eyes hooded and glinting with a dark and dangerous glow. Damn her to hell, but she knew what it meant. It had been two days and the addiction demanded a fix. But, suddenly, she was caught in his crosshairs and a warning held her still like prey before a predator. There was no welcoming smile, no teasing twinkle in his eye. While her body throbbed with the call to let him, her mind screamed with blaring sirens to run away. At the slight movement of his head, she turned and scampered towards the safety of the small forest of palm trees.
His legs were too long to let her escape, but he allowed her to get off the beach and halfway up the grassy path. Arms snaked around her thighs and she fell with a startled cry, the air rushing out of her as her body thudded to the ground. He rolled her onto her back as she gasped for air, his body moving over hers, his hands pinning her arms over her head, imprisoning her.
Brown eyes, wide and dark with surprise stared up at him. Blue eyes, dark and glowing with intent answered back. Mouth opening to speak uttered no sound as his head lowered and his mouth crashed down onto hers, muffling her attempt. The weight of Hayden’s body pressed hers into the ground, imprinting itself onto her. The swipe of this tongue stuttered her sound from alarm to need, her hips jerking up against the hard bulge at the front of his shorts. Desire flamed through her as she met his kiss, her tongue mating with his until he tore his mouth from hers and nipped his teeth along her neck, his lips suctioning the soft skin with delicate pressure.
Natalie turned her head, burying her nose in his hair. He smelled of coconuts. When he raised his head, she dragged her tongue over the hot skin of his shoulder. He tasted like sunshine. The palm leaves high above them, providing privacy and shade, whispered seductively in the breeze and she struggled to free hands itching to touch him. Hayden’s lips twitched but not in a smile. His head dipped again and their lips slid together, the flick of her tongue over his wrenching a moan up his throat. One hand gathered her wrists together and the other made its way down to the hem of her shirt, wiggling under it and up her skin to the rounded satin of her breast. Passion bubbled through her, want saturating her underwear as she twisted in a clamor for release. Jerking her head, she freed herself from his kiss and cried out, needing to express the inner urge driving her body.
The cry did him in. The hand shackling her wrists left to join the other, pushing her shirt up over her breasts with clumsy effort, his mouth honing in on the tight nubs with voracious intensity moving from one peak to the other, driving her crazy, sharp arrows of pleasure darting to her core. Fingers dug paths into his thick hair, clutching fistfuls, holding him to her as he suckled her almost to the edge of pain. Even as she whimpered for the frustration to end she craved the sensation of his rasping tongue to continue. Time froze under the trees.
Wrestling his head away his mouth returned to hers, one hand fumbling at the button and zipper of her shorts, fingers darting into the hot, liquid center of her, teasing her with one glide that left her breathless and moaning. Charging to his knees, he ripped the offending shorts and underwear down her legs and off, tossing them to the side as his eyes devoured the sight of her below him, shirt raked up her chest, thighs curved around his, her eyes slumberous, her body rosy and trembling. A hand went to the drawstrings of his shorts, shaking so hard he fought to undo the string and loosen it over his hips, scooping out his pulsing, impatient erection as he loomed over her. Barely had he pressed against the heart of her when he plunged in, slamming himself deep into her depths, not waiting for her signal of assent.
Natalie cried out, arching her back and watched his head drop and his eyes squeeze shut as a deep, low groan rumbled out of him. But it didn’t slow him down. Drowned in his blue eyes, she watched him as he thrust into her with heated, hard strokes, not even aware she was pushing back at him with her own frantic, desperate attempts to sheath and release him, her inner muscles operating by instinct. He grunted with every plunge, eyes pinned on hers. She undulated beneath him, watching the mirrored ascent in the depths of his stare.
It was coming too fast, but it couldn’t be stopped. Cries spilled from her into the air, higher and more desperate with each thrust. Too soon it was there and her nails dug into his shoulders as their foreheads pressed together, their open, panting mouths a breath away. The buzz between her legs spread through her like a swarm of angry bees. There was no time to perch at the summit and admire the view. Immediately she convulsed around him at the same moment as he, his body shivering beneath her hands as he lost himself to her velvety grip. Every muscle in him tensed as he shook in the throes of his climax and her walls strained to massage every thick, potent drop of him into her. Flying into the stars, she rode out her own release and reveled in the intensity she had only ever found with him, their bodies grinding together.
He collapsed. In spite of her own weakness, she tightened her limbs around him and held him close, marveling at the animal in him that found and liberated the animal deep within her. Body replete with afterglow she smiled to herself and stroked a hand down his back, calming the animal in him back into its pen. Amazed, she felt him shiver again in spite of the heat and threaded a soothing hand through his hair. She loved his hair, the texture silky and thick. Natalie wondered if she would forever associate the smell of coconuts and the taste of sunshine with this moment and hugged it close, knowing she would cherish it even in the winter of her life.
Hayden stirred and sighed a weary groan. Lifting his head, he looked down at her and she cupped tender fingers around his cheek. Raising up a bit she kissed him softly, her lips clinging to his even as the kiss ended. A smile wavered on his lips and he nuzzled her cheek with his.
When sufficiently recovered, he pulled away even as she tried to hold him down, busying himself with shedding her of her top then standing and dropping his own shorts the rest of the way and stepping out of them. Gathering up the articles of clothing, he reached down, hauled her up and guided her up the path to the pool. At the pool, he threw the clothes down onto a lounger and led her into the tepid water, wrapping her loosely around him when the water reached his chest. Aimlessly they drifted around the pool, exchanging tender kisses and sated smiles, hands constantly touching and stroking, even under the water. The flare of passion satisfied, they lingered in the water until Hayden’s legs grew tired. On a reclining lounge chair they lay in a tangle of limbs and dried, still reluctant to separate.
The heat of the sun beat down on them with merciless power, but neither seemed to notice or care until Hayden spied Natalie’s slender shoulder beginning to turn pink. Easing her off, he stood and gathered the clothes again before leading her into the house. Right in the living room he dressed her and pulled his shorts back on then plopped into a comfy armchair, curling her into his lap.
Hours slid by as they sat together, hands linking and unlinking, playing with one another’s fingers, stroking over the digits, measuring the size difference. In the relaxed state of the room they shared lazy kisses and gentle touches, but no words. There was nothing to say. The fervor of the storm that had lashed them had said it all. Eventually, the kisses lasted longer, delved deeper, the feel of lips on lips stirring the coals of their passion, but they strove to keep it banked for now.
Unfortunately, Hayden’s stomach growled loudly protesting the negligence of its owner and Hayden pulled back and looked down at it. Natalie giggled and rubbed the offended spot. Hayden grinned and unenthusiastically let Natalie up but admired her as she stretched her arms high above her head and yawned. As she walked into the kitchen his eyes studied the slight, graceful sway of her hips, a tiny smile tugging at the corners of his mouth. When she was out of view, he put his head back and stared at the blades of the fan spinning round and round comparing it to the dizziness of his heart every time she got within range of him. It had never been his intention to take her like that, but one look at her and some possessive beast in him reared its head and snarled. Ok, so he had been thinking dark thoughts about her on the beach, things he wanted to say to her and do to her, but his actions should have surprised and shocked him. And they didn’t. Maybe his conscience would attack him later. Maybe. Or maybe not.
Natalie wandered back in with a bowl of sliced fruit and coiled back into his lap. With delicate fingers she fed him succulent slices of melon, pineapple and peaches. The sweet, sticky juice dribbled down his chin and she licked it off with laps of her tongue always ending by kissing his lips. A smile welled up inside her. Yep, she would never look at fruit the same way again. A little giggle escaped her as she popped a slice of peach into her mouth.
The sun hung low and threatening in the west. Hayden sighed and licked at her sticky fingers knowing their time here was ending. It gnawed at a sore spot inside him. He didn’t want it to end. The day had been too perfect, too right. She had been too perfect, too right. For him. This was who he wanted and probably always had but just hadn’t been fully aware of it. At least not to this extent. Now he knew. How in the hell was he going to live with that?
Natalie slid off his lap and carried the bowl into the kitchen where she washed it and put it away. Hayden strolled in and washed the juice from his hands. It was time to say goodbye again and he hated it, his deepening frown shouting his thoughts. Natalie hopped up onto the counter and he stood between her thighs trying to find something to say, but still loathe to do so and spoil the day. A moment later he discovered there were no words needed. Hands slid into his hair, arms circled around her back and lips met in soft kiss after soft kiss. When his lips nudged hers, she opened to him and met his seeking tongue, her soft body molding to his as if made for that purpose only.
Natalie’s senses opened to explore every aspect of their kisses, memorizing the feel of his lips on hers, the stroke of his tongue, the tilt of his head and sigh of his body, the smooth skin of his back. A pain of regret pierced her as they parted and she gazed into the serious swirls swimming amidst the blue of his eyes. She hugged him close once more then slipped off the counter and pushed him towards the shower. He understood. It was time for her to go.
Hayden closed the bathroom door with a soft click and Natalie stood in the living room for a moment chewing on her lip vacillating between going or chucking it all and staying. She stared down at her feet and her eyes widened. Her sandals! Running all the way, she reached the beginning of the beach and found them right where she had dropped them. Looking around her, she headed back up the path, stopping only long enough to stare at the patch of ground that they had christened in a wild, heated coupling.
This is our patch of ground, she thought to herself, and no one had better ever desecrate it. Hunching down she touched the lush carpet of grass with reverent fingers. Ours.
Back up at the villa, she rifled through her bag and found the slip of paper she had prepared the day before. The sound of the shower assured her she was safe and she crept into the bedroom placing the paper on the dresser beside his wallet where she knew he would find it. Then, squaring her shoulders, she marched out of the bedroom, grabbed her pack and let herself out the door, never looking back for fear she would crumble and do something stupid.
Rubbing a towel over his head, Hayden left the bathroom, his first impulse to call her name. Almost he did, but then remembered. Stilling, he listened and knew by the heavy silence she was gone.
“Damn you, Natalie,” he whispered to no one.
Listless, he walked towards the beach, the charm of the whole place muted now that she was gone. Hands in his pocket, he walked down the grassy path, his feet halting without him realizing it. Looking down, he stared at the grass, his mind pulling out the vivid memory as if it was happening right in front of him. Heart twisting painfully, he turned around in the waning light and headed back to the villa. In his bedroom he began stuffing his clothes back into his pack. This is supposed to be fun, he told himself. Don’t fall in love with her, Hayden. At least, not yet.
A heavy sigh lifted his chest and he turned to pluck his wallet off the dresser, the crisp white paper catching his eye. Curious, he picked it up a grin pasting his lips as he read the words:
‘In two days count to 100 from your room and then seek out where I am hiding.’
Now they were playing Hide and Seek? Hayden’s spirits lifted as he realized the game was still on and she was still very much into it and him. Looking at the coordinates he sat down on the bed and took his GPS from his pack along with his map. A laugh gurgling up his throat stilled as the coordinates gave way to the point on the map. It matched up with his hotel on St. Kitts. Where Skylin was. Where trouble could erupt like the mountain right here on Montserrat. This was NOT good. If he was lucky, Skylin had gotten fed up with him and left taking her tap tap tapping toes with her. But, whether she was gone or not the game was on, he decided, and he was going to play. He couldn’t help it. He wanted to play. With Natalie.
