“Oh, turn that shit up!” Pete said, taking a sip of his beer as he began moving his hips along with the music. Everyone was hanging out at the apartment Frank and Gerard shared, getting ready to go out. He grinned at Ray, pleasantly surprised when he stood up, cranked up the volume on the stereo and began singing along.
“Here I go, here I go, here I go again. Girls, what’s my weakness?”
“Men!” the rest of the guys chorused. Ray proceeded to sing the rest of Shoop verbatim as he danced around the room, causing everyone, even Bob, to explode in laughter. Ray blushed bright red when Frank stood up and started grinding with him as the second verse started.
“You’re packed and you’re stacked, ‘specially in the back,” Frank sang, slapping Ray’s ass playfully. “Brother wanna thank your mother for a butt like that.”
Ray let out a small giggle, Gerard and Pete roared even louder, and Bob stopped laughing.
“You know, Frank’s right,” Pete said. “You’re looking pretty good in those jeans.” He grinned at Ray and winked, causing Ray to blush even brighter.
“Really?” he asked, with genuine surprise.
“Umm…have you seen your bottom half today?” Gerard asked. “If those jeans were any tighter, you’d need vasoline to get them off.”
“Oh,” Ray said, lowering his head as he smiled bashfully.
“It makes me sad when hot guys have no idea how hot they are,” Pete said, shaking his head sadly. “Stop being so modest, Ray.”
“Guys, can’t you see we’re embarrassing him,” Frank said, throwing an arm around Ray’s shoulder. “Modesty is a hell of a lot better than strutting around like you two peacocks.”
“Oh, whatever,” Gerard said, feigning offense. “Ain’t no shame in my game.”
The room erupted into laughter, nearly drowning out Ray’s cell phone. Man, why the fuck is Mikey calling? he thought after he’d fished his phone from his pocket and stepped into the kitchen to answer.
“Hello?”
“Hey Ray, do you feel like going to the diner with me after I get off work?”
“Well, actually me and the guys are going out to Sammy’s tonight.” Ray resisted the urge to add ‘so there!’ or something equally childish.
“Oh,” Mikey replied, sounding surprised and a bit irritated. “Well, I’ll meet you guys there when I get off then.”
Ray groaned inwardly. This was supposed to be his night where he could forget about Mikey and just have fun.
“Great!” he said, his voice over-bright. “We’ll see ya then.”
“Who was that?” Bob asked when Ray reappeared from the kitchen.
“Mikey. He says he’s gonna meet us there when he gets off,” Ray replied cheerfully.
“Oh, awesome,” Pete said. Frank and Gerard nodded their agreement.
“Yeah. Awesome,” Bob muttered, rolling his eyes.

“Fuck! Is it always this cold in the beginning of October?” Pete asked, rubbing his arms in an attempt to rid them of goose bumps. He peeked around the people in front of him, trying to see what was holding the line up.
“Well, you should have been smart like me and worn long sleeves,” Ray teased, indicating his long-sleeved button up.
“Come on. Would you want to hide these guns?” Pete asked playfully, raising his arm and kissing his bicep. The rest of the guys groaned and rolled their eyes.
“What?”
“Hey, Mr. Universe,” Frank said sarcastically. “The line’s moving.”
Once inside, the group headed straight to the bar to order drinks. Ray immediately spotted a cute guy sitting alone at the end of the bar, sipping a tall beer. He nudged Pete and pointed in his direction.
“Oh, nice. Follow me,” Pete said, gesturing for Ray to go with him as he slid into the empty space beside the attractive young man and waved the bar tender over. Ray stepped up beside him, keeping his back to the man.
Pete leaned in closer to Ray as he waited for the drinks and whispered, “He’s checking you out.” When their drink order was ready, Pete passed out the glasses and raised his own.
“To getting smashed and dancing our asses off.”
Everyone laughed and raised their glasses, downing their drinks. Ray peeked out of the corner of his eye and noticed the cute guy watching him, grinning.
“Well, I don’t know about you guys but I’m ready to dance,” Gerard said as he placed his empty glass on the bar.
“We’re not quite drunk enough to dance yet,” Pete said as he put an arm around Ray and nodded to the guy sitting behind them. Gerard nodded his understanding and grabbed Frank and Bob by their arms.
“Okay, well you two will just have to dance with me,” he said as he pulled his two less than enthusiastic partners toward the dance floor. Pete ordered two more Jaeger bombs then turned to Ray while the bar tender prepared them.
“Say something to him,” he whispered.
“I can’t. I’m too fucking shy.”
“Okay then.” Pete reached for the drinks, ‘accidentally’ knocking Ray into the stranger.
“Oh Jesus, I’m sorry,” Ray said, his face darkening. The guy turned to Ray, smirking.
“It’s fine,” he said, smiling as he handed the bar tender a twenty. “Those are on me.”
Ray couldn’t stop his smile as his stomach did a flip. The guys had been dragging him out to clubs for months and this was the first time someone had bought him a drink.
“Thanks!” Pete said as he downed his Jaeger bomb.
“No problem,” the stranger replied, his eyes on Ray.
“I’m gonna go join Gerard,” Pete said, leaving Ray alone with his new friend.
“So….what’s your name?” Ray asked as he slid onto an unoccupied stool. The man grinned, looking Ray up and down before replying.
“Patrick. You?”
“Ray.”
“Nice to meet you Ray. Do you want another drink?”
“Why not?” Ray smiled. Patrick started up a conversation, or as much of one as the loud music would allow. Ray loosened up quickly enough, answering Patrick’s questions with enthusiasm as Patrick kept the rounds coming. He found out Patrick was twenty six, working through his final year of law school, and had a soft spot for shy guys with fluffy hair. Ray didn’t realize how much time had passed, or how many drinks he’d consumed until his flushed and winded friends came up behind him.
“Are you planning on dancing at all tonight?” Gerard asked as he stepped up to the bar beside him and ordered another drink.
“Of course,” Ray replied, grinning at Patrick. The large quantity of alcohol he’d consumed had obliterated his usual shyness, so he grabbed Patrick by the wrist and pulled him toward the dance floor. Once there, Ray immediately began grinding back into Patrick, who took this as an opportunity to run his hands across Ray’s chest and hips before spinning him around to face him. Ray grinned at Patrick as he gripped Rays hips, forcing their bodies together.
“You should kiss me,” Ray said, smiling at Patrick. Patrick smirked and crushed their mouths together. Ray wasn’t sure what had made him say that. Later on he’d chalk it up to too much alcohol, but when Patrick’s tongue slid into his mouth to tangle with his own he didn’t care that he was making out with some stranger he’d just met in a club. Someone desired him, and that was all that mattered at that moment.

Mikey pushed his way through the crowd, scanning their faces for a glimpse of his friends. He spotted them crowded around a table near the bar and made his way over, smiling when Pete spotted him and waved. His eyes fell across two guys sitting at the table with their tongues shoved down each other’s throats. It took him a few seconds to realize one of them was in fact Ray. The smile faded from his eyes to be replaced with shock, and finally anger.
“Mikey, you made it!” Pete said, throwing an arm around his shoulder. Mikey remembered himself and flashed his best flirtatious smile.
“Of course,” he grinned at Pete, wrapping an arm around his waist as he grabbed Pete’s beer and downed the rest of it before greeting the rest of his friends. Ray pulled away from Patrick at the sound of Mikey’s voice.
“Hey Mikey,” Ray slurred, grinning as Patrick ran a hand over his hair. “Meet Patrick.”
They exchanged polite hellos, then Patrick pulled Ray back into another kiss. Mikey tore his eyes from the pair and turned to Pete.
“Feel like dancing?” he asked, running his hand up Pete’s arm. Pete nodded his agreement and grinned as Mikey pulled him toward the dance floor. He glanced over his shoulder to see Ray watching them walk away, and smirked.

“I think I need to use the bathroom,” Ray said suddenly, practically jumping from his chair. He swayed a bit when he stood, then rushed to the bathroom.
“Wow, when you gotta go you gotta go,” Gerard said, giggling. Patrick and Frank laughed in agreement.
“I’m gonna go check on him,” Bob said, frowning as he stood. He found Ray sprawled across the floor in one of the stalls, his head resting on the toilet seat.
“Fuck,” Bob said under his breath as he knelt beside his friend and placed a hand on his shoulder. “Ray,” he said, shaking him. “Ray, are you okay?” Ray mumbled something unintelligible in response.
“Come on, Ray,” Bob said, wrapping an arm around Ray’s waist. “We’re gonna go get some air.” Ray allowed himself to be hauled to his feet and rested his head on Bob’s shoulder as Bob pulled him out of the club, followed by Gerard and Frank, who’d seen Bob pulling Ray from the bathroom.
“Hey, is he okay?” Frank asked, slipping his arm around Ray to help Bob lead him across the parking lot.
“No, he had way too much to drink,” Bob replied, stopping when they’d reached the car. He tried to get Ray to lean against it, but as soon as he let go of him, Ray slid to the ground beside the car and put his head between his knees.
“Shit! Ray, come on, stand up!” Bob said, bending down to help him back up.
“No, just let him be for a bit. He’ll feel better if he gets sick,” Frank said. Bob sighed and nodded in agreement.
“Hey, what the hell are you guys doing out here?” Pete asked as he and Mikey approached. His mouth formed a silent ‘oh’ when he spotted Ray on the ground near the car.
“Yeah, I think we’re gonna take him home,” Bob said, looking to Frank and Gerard, who nodded in agreement.
“Alright then, I’ll just catch a ride home with Mikey,” Pete said, grinning as he turned to Mikey. “As long as that’s okay?”
“That’s fine with me,” Mikey replied, returning Pete’s grin.
Ray let out a quiet whimper, and Bob and Frank leaned down to rub his back, thinking he was about to get sick. Ray kept his head low so no one would see the tears sliding down his face.
