Chapter 3
The Caribbean
6 weeks later.
Everyone was scrambling to get everything in order; they had some technical difficulties that day nothing had arrived on time not even the crew. The cast was stuck out of costume and barley started their make up process. Johnny, Orlando, Geoffrey, Keira, Jack and many more pirates stood watching the crew as they scrambled to get things ready for the day that was going to be over soon. Cassandra was out of breath she had been yelling all day. Looking down at her watch she noticed that she still had time for the main cast. Gore still wanted to shoot today, even with the crew running out of time they would have to manage this. Running out of the make up tent she saw the whole cast standing together. Looking around for a moment she gathered some makeup artists together and each of them took one of the key cast members and began their makeup.
Sitting down in a chair, Johnny looked up at Cassandra as she rushed to get his characters make up together.
“Sorry about all of this we had no idea of the schedule.” Cassandra said as she started to apply the black eyeliner.
“Don’t worry about it, Looks like you got the situation under control.” She smiled and set down the eye liner grabbing her tray of colored foundation, she began to make Johnny into jack. After finishing the makeup Johnny helped Cassandra put his wig on along with bandana, finishing the overall look. Once done Johnny got up and ran to costume. Cassandra grabbed all the make up that she would need and put it all into her side bag and ran out to one of the production boats, going out to the Black Pearl. All of the boats were crammed as they made their way out to the floating set. Once everyone was there they only had a few hours to shoot before the sun would go down.
The whole crew watched as Johnny and Geoffrey acted together, Johnny delivering his lines about Orlando as Orlando stood soaked behind them on the rail of the ship. Gore called cut and Cassandra went to work. She had to fix Geoffrey’s make up as well as Johnny’s and many other pirates. She had to soak Orlando with water all over again and re-apply a lot of the make-up.
“Why do you always chose the cold water.” Cassandra smiled up at Orlando as she applied the make-up.
“Cause, it will keep you focused maybe it will set your mind into getting the job done faster so you could get warm. Besides we are in the Caribbean it should be nice to feel that cold water every once in a while.” Orlando smiled and waited for her to finish and soon wash back up standing on the railing with a pistol against his neck. Orlando had a hard time finishing his lines for a few moments, but finally he got it right. Everything rapped a few hours after it started and everyone was off towards the beach. One after the other each actor sat in front of Cassandra and she removed all the make-up and wigs. After finishing with Johnny last everyone watched Gore walk out into the middle of the make-up tent. Getting everyone’s attention he began to speak over everyone and all the noise of the sea.
“I just like to thank the whole production for all the hard work and speed they put into to everything today. I like to thank Cassandra Hawkins, our make up manager for taking the lead and working things out for us.” Cassandra looked down trying to hid the blush that was appearing on her cheeks. Everyone applauded to her successful day, everyone looked back to Gore to see if he had anything else to say.
“Everyone is going to the local bar that we rented out for the night. Please come and join us for the night.” Everyone cheered. Like pirates Cassandra thought as everyone began to leave to the bar. Cassandra stayed behind though, she started to clean up all the stations and began to prepare them for tomorrow. She had forgotten about the small party going on down the street at the local bar.
Down the street at the local bar.
There was dancing and drinking, what else would have happened at a bar. Johnny sat at the bar with Orlando and talked about the day. Technically Johnny was giving Orlando advice but he didn’t like to call it that. No one really bothered to see who was there and who wasn’t it was just a bunch of people together having fun after a hard day. Johnny was tired of talking and tire from the day, he announced his leave and went to reach for his wallet, feeling that it wasn’t there he groaned to himself.
“Orlando can you pay my tab I left my wallet back in the make-up tent, Ill pay you back I promise.” Orlando nodded and Johnny took his leave back down to the make-up tent less than a mile away. Walking in through the open door, he wondered who was still around at this time of night.
Walking around the stations he looked for his wallet. Not recalling which station he was at earlier that day he walked along them noticing that they had been cleaned and prepared for the next shoot. Turning round the corner of one of the stands he ran into the person still hanging around the make-up tent. Everything she was holding fell to the floor, Cassandra took a deep breath and sighed laughing to her self.
“Sorry about that.” Johnny said as he joined her on the floor, helping her pick up all of the make-up he caused to fall to the ground.
“Don’t worry about it, its just as much as my fault as is it yours. Thank you.” Cassandra and Johnny rose to their feet and Johnny handed her the box full of make-up. She walked around him and over to her main station.
“So what are you doing here this late Johnny?” Johnny looked over at her and watched her set the make up out.
“I should as you the same question.”
“I always prepare the stations every night, just because.” Johnny nodded and looked around still searching for his wallet.
“Forget something?” Johnny turned back to her and caught the object thrown at him. Thank god Johnny looked through making sure everything was there.
“Do you think me a thief Johnny?” He looked back up closing the wallet and shoving it into his back pocket.
“No, I just thought someone may have found it before you.” Cassandra shook her head no and continued to work the station in front of her. “Thank you.” Cassandra nodded but didn’t look up at him as he walked over.
“Your not one to take compliments are you?” Johnny asked, picking up a brush and running it over her fingers.
“Nope, and I’m not one to let people fool around with my things.” Snatching the brush back from him and placing it in the cup he had retrieved it from. Johnny raised his hands and backed up a bit.
“Sorry.” Cassandra finished the station and placed the box underneath the station.
“Is there anything else I can help you with Johnny?” Johnny rose an eyebrow and shook his head no.
“Then I have to ask you to leave so I can close this place down for the night.” Johnny did as the make-up artist said and stood outside the tent waiting for her. Once she emerged from the tent Johnny went to walk beside her.
“I’m sorry do you want something?” Cassandra asked stopping her strides.
“Your not friendly out of work are you?” Cassandra sighed.
“I’m sorry I’m cranky when I’m tired.” Johnny nodded,
“So I take it you wouldn’t want to have a drink then.” Looking up at Johnny she looked down at her watch and concluded that she needed one.
“Sure why not.”
They walked together down to the bar chatting a little bit. Cassandra tried to hold a conversation of interests that he had but it was hard. They walked through the two large doors of the bar and then walked over to the bar. Sitting next to Johnny on one of the high bar stools, she ordered a beers and Johnny ordered the same. The bartender attended to them and soon they were talking about anything they could think of.
Cassandra began to enjoy they evening after the second beer and began to tell him about her life and made sure to keep all of her tragic moments out of it. She had gone to West Point at the age of 17 having graduated early and majored in History and Art. She told him how she was in the U.S. Marine Corps for four years before joining the navy and attempting to make it into the seals but one thing about being a woman, you couldn’t be one. She spent another four years of her life in the navy working her way to captain by the end. She retired at of 29 and began to work as an artist on Broadway shows. She moved to L.A. only six weeks prior to the beginning of the shoot.
“Wow you’ve had an adventurous life haven’t you?” Cassandra nodded taking a sip of her beer.
“Traveling the world and fighting to become a Navy Seal, yeah adventurous.” She looked down at the bar a blank expression on her face.
“That’s just the good version isn’t it.” Cassandra grunted and straightened up and pulling out her wallet and dropping money on the bar, she stood looking down at Johnny.
“Thanks I enjoyed the talk.” Johnny watched as she started to walk out of the bar.
“Cassandra?” She stopped and turned back to him for a moment.
“If you ever need anyone to talk to I’m here.” Cassandra gave a week smiled before leaving the bar and Johnny to sit and ponder what had happened in her life. She had a pretty successful career what more could she have wanted.
“Hey, I see your getting friendly with our make up artist.” Orlando said as he sat down next to Johnny. Johnny smirked and paid Orlando back from his drinks earlier.
“We just talked last time I checked it wasn’t against the law.” Orlando laughed slightly watching Johnny stare off into space. Shrugging he walked back to the group he was with earlier. Johnny sighed and called the bartender for another drink trying to forget about all of it.
